What Do You Do With All That Rope?

Saddle hunting can look very appealing to those on the outside looking in -- unless they get scared by not understanding how the ropes work and what to do with them. Even hunters who've been at the game for a while can learn from this video showing how to manage the ropes for transport and while hunting. #saddlehunter #saddlehunting #onesticking #rappelling

Great info! You're videos have really helped my saddle hunting journey this year. Thought I was too old at 50 to try it, wrong! Hooked on one sticking now. Thanks again.

I really like, and learn from your videos. You’re the real deal. I’m new to saddle hunting but at 67 years of age im excited to be a part of this way of hunting. AND I’m about all set up to start rappelling.

Super-appreciate that!! Best of luck to you as you get going in your new venture! You’re going to LOVE rappelling … wish I’d known about it the first 30 years of my hunting career.

Just daisy chained my lineman rope for getting above branches. Going to hook it across my body and into my molle on the opposite side. Works perfectly and easy to get to. Thanks for the tip.

You keep yourself attached to the tree and safe all the time. That’s what you do with them. Good video again.

Cool cool! Love love love my Canyon c-iv 9mm rope. I do he exact same thing as yourself other than I don't use dump pouches on my saddle, just my preference, I rather my pack. It's coiled the same way then stuffed in my pack, ready to decend when needed. Learn yourself the Alpine Butterfly knot, it's very simple, rather than the overhand knot you're currently using to go in your carabiner. Weight the overhand and its a pain to get out where the Alpine Butterfly comes out very easy. Great video as always. Happy hunting, hope you and your boy each smash a monster.

I notice this tree is a bit of a leaner. My 1st experience with much of a leaner and repelling was this weekend. Fighting gravity is a losing battle, but good equipment won. I'm safe. Would you do a video on one sticking and slightly leaning trees?

Kind of off subject from this video, but do you know of a way to silence the harken cam cleat on the Ultimate one stick? If so, can u do a video on it
@StaggsintheWild
@StaggsintheWild 2 года назад
Hey Shane, What I do is reach down and grab the top cleat and lift up on it with sort of half my hand... then use the other half to pull the rope out and then ease the cleat back into its resting position. You have to be a TOUCH lower to do this vs. just pulling it out, but to me it's worth being whisper-quiet. Hope that helps!
@shane31wells
@shane31wells 2 года назад
@@StaggsintheWild that's kind of how I been doing it myself but you are right, you do have to be a touch lower to be comfortable doing it

Try tying a price of twine through the cleat. Stops the sound yet small enough to still stop the larger rope.

@@StaggsintheWild just wondering. I run 2 dump pouches and it would be nice to only run one. I have one for dynaglyde and 40 feet of repel rope. The other one holds my back recliner,linemans rope with caribeaner, and my hys strap.

Why not just leave the 35” tag end in the pouch the whole time and only pull out the 7 ft or would you need to one stick up? Then pull out the rope when your ready to rappel.
@lovejoy1230
@lovejoy1230 2 года назад
I recall now that you like to use the tag end a bow pull up rope. I get it, like you said everybody has their “best” method. My main priority is to get up the tree as quiet as possible and with as little set up required when I get to height, I personally like to leave the tag end in my dump pouch so I don’t have to roll it up once at height. I know you don’t care for the Doyle hoist, but I can’t see myself leaving it behind, the little weight it adds is outweighed by the usefulness it provides, for me. I don’t use a separate platform, only an angled scout on my ultimate one stick. Once to the height I want, climb up on my stick set my gear hanger, pull my bow up with the Doyle and I’m hunting. Thanks for all the great content you put out for us, all great info!
@StaggsintheWild
@StaggsintheWild 2 года назад
Because I affix the other end to my bow and use it to pull it up and lower it with … I show exactly how I splice a continuous loop in the end to do it with in my video “One-sticking: The Details …”!
@StaggsintheWild
@StaggsintheWild 2 года назад
@@lovejoy1230 I responded before I saw your second comment … the only thing I’d add is it doesn’t make any noise leaving all the rope out, and I feel I can control my bow MUCH better with the thicker rappel rope vs using my Dynaglide or something that’s really thin - thereby potentially cutting down on noise from that aspect. Thanks for watching!
@lovejoy1230
@lovejoy1230 2 года назад
@staggs in the wild, I can’t argue with that logic, never tried using the rope to see if I have more control. I’ve never felt like I had a lack of control, but maybe I’ll try it to see if I feel like I’ve had less control all this time unknowingly. The only time I really had an issue I set my bow on the ground to far away from the base of the tree and didn’t realize until I got ready to pull up my bow. Because it was far away from the base as soon as I lifted it off the ground it swung into the tree making all kinds of racket! 😬 Thanks again for all the one sticking content and product reviews, your videos is how I started my journey into the saddle hunting community and and definitely into one sticking. I’ve tried just about all the sticks you have reviewed but always find myself going back to the ultimate on stick, it’s just hard to beat!
