Why do people try to push the idea that masculinity is necessarily about aggressiveness, lecherousness and toxicity? There are masculine virtues and masculine vices. To me, masculinity isn’t about being macho, it simply refers to behaviours typical of men.

What’s so infuriating about Peterson is that he’ll talk forever about hierarchical systems being corrupted by malevolence or bad actors while never considering that some forms of hierarchy may be evil THEMSELVES. Like, slavery was a system of hierarchy, but it wasn’t wrong because slave owners were evil or had darkness in their hearts, it was because the VERY NATURE of the hierarchical system was perverse. Asking a slave in that circumstance to “look into their own heart” would just be fucking absurd. We don’t need more well meaning leaders, we don’t need competent qualified individuals to run our systems of domination, we need to destroy the systems of domination mercilessly and by any means necessary.
Agreed, but I think Peterson was pushing back against a leading leftist position which was that hierarchies are social constructs. He wanted to state the importance of the natural factor, not that it's the only one that determines a hierarchy
@@hamzamahmood9565 No leftist believes that all hierarchies are social constructs, I don’t know who told you that. Like, no one thinks that I could beat LeBron one-on-one because hierarchy of skill at basketball is a “social construct”. Likewise, no one thinks that Michael Cera is stronger than an Olympic weightlifter, there’s a hierarchy of skill that just objectively exists.
Peterson works so well because he complicates things that aren't really complicated but seem complicated to people who don't understand. The problem with Peterson is that he targets a relatively open minded group of people and has to try (beyond his ability) to explain away every issue that they face. He only explains away about three quarters. And because he does try to 'intellectualise' these answers, he provides a way for those who listen to him to grow far past his obfuscation. I think most people give up on Peterson after a couple of years and they move into becoming budding leftists (as his answers didn't work or explain some key issues in their lives...) or they go hard, hard right. No inbetween.
Yes! Faux intellectualism confuses idiots because of thr Dunning Kroger effect! I've said this for years! If you understand Jordan Peterson, and you think this is what intellectual insight looks like, then you are overinflating yours and his intelligence. As a highly intelligent person, this is hot drivel.
I'm a woman and my youtube shorts feed was bombarded with Jordan Peterson shit and some of them were like okay and the people in the comment section were like worshipping him but then whenever he talked about anything related to women i felt weirded out by him i was like is this 16th century going on or what? Like he would many times indirectly say toxic stuff and i was like fuck this shit. No doubt he has so many incel fans lmao. Imagine describing a woman wearing lipstick as a attention seeking slut yuck. As if his own daughter doesn't wear lipstick. And the way his passive aggressive racist behaviour comes up sometimes i swear it annoys me. Well since I'm not a fatherless depressed man who's going to be single forever so i didn't really got too deep into his content and i never even subscribed to him lol. That's why he has almost no female fans
Yea, but there are centrists on both sides of the political spectrum. I think more what he meant was the people sitting on both sides should be defined more by the people in the middle and not the extremist’s. But in the end that is just my opinion.
@Rune Kristensen Under the actual definition of the spectrum, Social Democracy is centrism, THAT’S IT. No America or Denmark, it doesn’t matter. Liberals are center-right, and in other places because of no bullshit McCarthyism like in America, other countries have LEGIT Progressive parties like Socialist Parties, and Social Democratic parties. Liberals are allowed to be what they are, Center-right.

I've had some very messed up dreams, but I've never understood how Jordan Peterson not only wrote the public hair dream down, but thought it was a good idea to publish.
After detox and three days in hell, being awake 64+ hours I lost count, people broke into my room and I saw black dogs running around in the garden, I couldn't sit. I never thought any of it was real.
Hilarious how these ghouls will hold up "logic, reason, the enlightenment" while at the same time naturalizing hierarchies - the one thing Enlightenment thinkers sought to destroy.
Peterson will hilariously say that hierarchies are natural and necessary, while saying that they degrade and fall apart. It's also ironic to watch these individualists work together to advance their ridiculous premises.
@@vermin6107 When did I say all hierarchies? Any hierarchies that aren't justified. The divine right of kings is not justified just like the rule of capitalists is not justified. If any enlightenment thinkers were alive today and saw the power and control of multinational corporations they'd be beside themselves.
Because, when you grow up around cruel people, and therefore act cruel to others, but then at some point realize that you shouldn't do that and begin to feel bad about it, the weak minded among us will flock to anyone who will tell them they are truly the victims, they need not feel guilt, they need not evaluate and change their ways of thinking, in fact it's those who care about others who are always making you feel bad, and so therefore they must want to make you feel bad and must get off on it, and therefore they're bad morally bankrupt people who just love feeling good about themselves. I've seen too many old friends go down this dumbass road and end up miserable assholes who always think they're a victim.
Due to my own experience I’ve always seen past Peterson’s bullcrap even when I was going down the alt-right pipeline years ago. I personally have issues finishing my talking points and thinking about too many things when I start talking so I get distracted and end up saying nothing too great of a value. A lot of the time people end up being impressed on how well I string words together rather than because of what I said. It’s amazing to see the same weakness that I’m struggling to overcome being celebrated as a ”highly intellectual banter actually” instead of as the word porridge that it is.
A lot of conservatives I talk to can actually agree with some of the fundamentals of socialism so long as they are recontextualized to remove the buzzwords these debate bros tout like Ben and Jordan. Goes to show their ideas carry little weight to normal people
It kind of pisses me off listening to Jordan Peterson speak. Ben Shapiro, for as much as I hate him, at least tries to make a point and builds toward it like a human being. Jordan Peterson just sort of mumbles big words and doesn't establish any points he's trying to make.
And also Ben Shapiro tries to listen to counter arguments by someone even if his replies would be dog shit meanwhile Peterson straight up doesn’t want anyone to question him at this point. Both are trash but Peterson is definitely worse.
I think it’s because teen boys are usually very awkward and don’t really know themselves very well so they look for communities that they can fit into. Conservatives like Shapiro and Peterson fill those voids bc of their large social media presence. I do think that Hasan and his zoomer appeal has helped pull young men from the alt right pipeline tho
Is Hasan really substantially different though? His views are mainly grounded on his moral beliefs (which is ok, since unlike JBP and Shabibo he isn’t a bad person) but they are not really thought through. Everything you mentioned about conservative communities also applies to Hasan‘s community. Don‘t get me wrong, I‘d rather want young people to listen to Hasan instead of the above mentioned grifters, but eventually they‘ll have to form their own opinions based on information they‘ve researched themselves or experiences they‘ve made themselves.
Because they have a certain set of beliefs , look at what you are doing now? Are u not trying to prove them wrong? U not trying to convince people your own "truth" about them? You are ignorant, man.
It always cracks me up when Peterson refers to us all as children who don’t know any better and essentially idealistic. I am a 38 year old elder millennial. I’m not some naive kid who bought into the capitalism=bad theory. I’ve lived it. I’ve experienced it.
I read JP book and it was full of bullshit . He took scientific researches out of context to use them to strengthen his own ideas . He wrote too much that it stopped making sense . Also speaking as someone who comes from different culture , the things he said does not apply to everyone and everything , especially his explanations with dived into Christianity was kind of nonsense ( I have nothing against Christians ) as it does not apply to other beliefs and religions.
I had gone through some tough times and I was looking for some answers in life and that is when I found Jordan Peterson. I was never a huge fan but I found some of lectures to be interesting. His takes on single-parent families, the insistence that the ideal family is a man and a woman, his take about how make-up on women is inherently to seduce men because apparently it artificially replicates a look of arousal. I liked his take about how you should take care of yourself like you're caring for someone you love, but that's all I took.
That’s I actually what people should do. Listen or read someone or something that interests you with an open mind and then take with you the things that you agree on.

the absolute disconnect of conservatives constantly pointing out how things are better now than they used to be, but then adamantly condemning any sort of progressive ideology, is honestly kind of impressive.
What is even more incredible is that these men actually have wives and children. I hope this inspires men that no matter how repulsive or lacking in masculinity you may be... There is a woman out there for you. So inspirational
Peterson: The left hates facts... now let me attempt to opine philosophically about my meandering hypotheticals based on nothing but my own personal worldview.
Young Men (Myself included) tend to stumble upon people like Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro during their high moments and latch to that for a while before the reality of who and what they really are wash away the good first impression. If I recall correctly my first ever video of Ben Shapiro (That I sat and actively watched) was him schooling a chick when she was complaining about the Boy Scouts not having any girls.
Peterson: Calls college kids and anyone somewhat left leaning snowflakes. Also Peterson: Literally breaks down crying at any minor turn in conversation.
The Chapo boys were talking about this once and I think it was Matt who said that since we don't teach humanities/critical thinking/philosophy in high school that dorks like Shapiro and Peterson are lots of boys first exposure to those disciplines, and so they find it deep and profound instead of the shallow grifting it is
What I absolutely love about JBP is that he inspires me to do a PhD. Because if he can do it then I can do anything. Even though I am academically hopeless and have a very average IQ. He makes me feel like maybe I am cleverer than I give myself credit for
You can actually see Benny forcing himself awake and listening for inflection cues of when to react. You can almost hear the tumbleweeds blowing through his little head.
hasan's jp impression is so spot on that when I'm not actively watching, it takes me a second until he says something too straightforward to be certain
Jordan's argument about the patriarchy at the end was laughable. The notion that any young man bettering themselves means they will have more power, and that that is bad because men in power is the patriarchy, has to be about the stupidest thing I've heard this year. Having power and exerting the power you have over others are two different things. The patriarchy as a system of social organization is damaging because it gives all the agency and power to men and encourages the use of such power to exert control over the lives of others (women, children and even other, weaker men). Not only that, not all types of power are the same. The power an individual can derive from learning a new language is not the power a government can have in erasing the rights of women to bodily autonomy in an attempt to control their sexual behavior. I think this has been made very clear, specially considering present circumstances. What a disingenuous argument, what a simplification of the concept of power and of social structures. The patriarchy is not men having some power, the patriarchy is nobody else having any.

This guy I'm dating turned his life around with the help of Jordan Peterson's first book, which is amazing, but at the same time he quotes it a bunch and it's a bit cringe cause I know it's Peterson we're talking about. That aside though, he only quotes the self help parts of the book like "pet a cat" n stuff which are valid ngl. Generic self help stuff.
Some men are just looking for someone who will guide them in these confusing times. Probably those who have no father figures. JP probably connects with them more and they feel some of their questions are answered. Like having focus, discipline, self reliance and a purpose in life. Pretty basic stuff that you can read in any self help books.
I've never heard someone said so much yet mean so little until Jordan "Kermit-The-Frog-Here" Peterson. And then you have Ben Shabibo which is the epitome of "Talk Fast = Sound Smart". Truly two of the highest intellects of our time.
My brother is 25 and listens to Ben Shapiro and JBP religiously everyday. Every morning while he drives to work, he puts on Ben Shapiro and continues it on break/driving home. He is addicted and brags about how smart he is as he mimics the same old conservative rhetorics he hears from them on their videos. He also got married recently and she too is just like him, so unfortunately I don't think he will ever escape the hell hole he got into.
I’m afraid of listening to Azan too much because my brother and dad are like that with Ben/other conservatives and they’re insufferable. I think Azan is better, but I don’t want to limit myself to one dude and his cult of personality.
I agree with Hasan only for the simple fact that even if Jordan B Peterson was right I still can't understand 90% of whatever the fuck he's rambling about. jordan "the intellectual" peterson: if you say enough confusing things eventually the only people left who still think you're coherent will be the ones agreeing with you. if they don't you can just say "they didn't understand"

Omg he hasn't actually read Foucault at all and it enrages me every time he tries to act like he has... At this point he's literally taking advantage of someone being dead and unable to defend himself.
When I was an angry teen I tried to become a JP fan, but I couldn't because he was so boring and the way he spoke didn't make any sense to me. Thank goodness lol
Love how JP thinks power is some outside force that corrupts a hierarchy, power is literally what creates and reinforces hierarchy. Literally by definition. It’s like he thinks power is some magical force that possesses people instead of a description of social relations.
You have completely misunderstood his point, like the other illiterate morons on RU-vid. Yeah, hierarchies create power dynamics that are VERY OFTEN GOOD. We WANT competent skilled people to have more authority than incompetent unskilled people.
Conflation. Pointing out inherent negatives is not vilifying. 5:00 "yeah just cuz we rich have all the power and will kill any and everyone who tries to change that, doesn't mean we can change that." Powerless to change what they don't want changed. 6:50 what peckerson suggests is always blame yourself for the everpresent evil in your own heart while never blaming any externality. Yeah he's a real deep thinker 11:55 "....the last 40 years....". gee how unusual that a society would evolve and progress. Except america is regressing, specifically due to conservative legislation, there is no leftist Marxist legislation to blame western decay on. I hate peckerson
I think going after Peterson for his self help stuff is detrimental to getting people to listen to you. After all, there is so much other rubbish you could tackle him on, religion and politics being the two main ones. I personally dont find his self help content particularly helpful, but i guess some people actually do need to be told to get out of bed and cook a meal. idk, just seems pointless to throw out blanket statements like "he hasnt helped anyone" bc u disagree with his political views.
As long as Peterson can acknowledge that his method for self-help isn’t the only way to self-help, I couldn’t care less what he says because it could fit for some people. I only care about what he says on religion and/or politics, because that stuff could be causing harm to many.
