Very comprehensive content. Great job Skatz. Question on the "official translation". The link you have put in does not work anymore so I thought I would ask. Do you know if the translation needs to be "certified" only or does it need to be "sworn" translation? I believe the latter needs somebody in Spain to furnish the translation. Thanks in advance.

Hi Erick, it needs to be a translation by one of the official translators on the list provided by the Spanish embassy. They all have a code number. I usually recommend Raphaela Wiss, I had her on the show once and I’ve heard nothing but good reports about her.

Is there a company that I could pay to do all this or at least help handle the forms? I’ve been traveling throughout Asia, primarily Thailand, for the last four years so my residency has been a grey area. I don’t not want to go home to the USA to apply for my visa in Spain. For these reasons I think it might be better for me to lay a company to help with the paperwork.

In terms of residency yes it is. Some regions have different financial requirements by the way, it could be 1.5 x IPREM. But it’s less than the NLV amount.

Hi. I have heard that a comprehensive covering letter/letter of intent to include within the application docs would be very useful and increase the chances of being accepted. I saw one somewhere once but cannot find it again. Duh. Is there a template of sorts or an example of one that has been used before available from somewhere? Cheers

No, because the letter is completely individual to each applicants circumstances. It’s only really needed when something needs more explanation. A good specialist advisor like Chris would be able to tell you whether you need one.

The link for the 790-052 form requires you to have a Spanish phone number and tax id .... which I won't get until after getting my first visa. Is there any other way to get a 790-052 form - I'm now stuck how I can complete this form and pay. Also can you pay at the consulate using a card? And after all the offical links got broken is there any information in English how to fill in the 790-052 and EX-01 forms?

Hi Valentina, I’m investigating for you. The page isn’t translating for me so it’s difficult to follow. It looks like it wants payment for TIE rather than the Visa application because it asks you to select the province where you want to pay.

One question I hope you can help me with is regarding employment status when applying. I’m already retired but my husband was hoping to work up until we leave but reading through the information I’m not sure this is possible, any advice?

Well it’s a tricky one and depends on which embassy and which official you’re dealing with. If you can provide solid proof of the date of your husband’s work finishing you might be fine. But it’s common and expected that you’ll both have finished work by the time of your appointment.

Thanks for a quick reply, I believe in you, since its in both English and Spanish, no point of sworn translation. Why Spanish government does not do these to all documents, English and spanish and that will eliminate this extra headache. Links on BLS and Spanish consulate are never live. Thanks

Because the Spanish embassy website has a few problems at the moment, presumably they’ve been moving things around but haven’t upgraded their links, it’s very unprofessional of their IT team. It’s impossible to find the new links online, I’ve tried.

Hi Skats where can I download a official Spanish non lucrative visa form in ENGLISH. Looked on line and so many people are saying they are official. We want to look at the form check the requirements to make sure we have everything needed before we apply. I have been on to the Spanish consulate in Manchester but keep getting a error code.!!! Hi, great informative video! With regards to the Health Insurance required, I assume this has to be taken out prior to the appointment at the consulate in the UK, translated and apostilled, but what happens if the visa application is rejected, can the health insurance policy be cancelled? I wouldn’t want to carry on paying for an insurance policy that I no longer require.

It does, yes. That’s a question to ask the insurance companies, there may be a cooling off period or an agreement that can be made. Time it so that you take out the policy a few days before the appointment. Also I would say that if you get all of your documents and proofs sorted out correctly and you have more than enough finances then think positive and you won’t be rejected. Ask Chris from Upsticks to help, he always gets you ready successfully

I’m just thinking about the timing of getting all the documents and copies together prior to the visa appointment. Probably me overthinking it …… thanks for the response by the way 😀

@@cablakeman no you’re right, timing is everything. The health insurance needs to be with a company operating in Spain so they should give you the policy proof in Spanish which doesn’t need translating.

Good afternoon Skatz I have applied for my NIE at the Immigration Police Malaga 2020 unfortunately I wasn't able to go back to collect my ID due Covid lockdown I had to come back to the UK I am in the process of applying for my NLV and going back to Malaga in September I would like to know if I can go back to the Immigration Police to collect the ID?

London it is for you. They have an online system for appointments which is apparently quite efficient these days, but it is the busiest of the 3 in the UK.

Afternoon Skatz, I'm planning to retire in April 2026. Do I have to wait another 6 months after retirement to provide bank statements proving monies available? I obviously won't get my lump sum and pension until I retire, so my bank statement will be significantly different until I have retired. I'd like to be able to apply for my NLV before I retire, so I can hopefully head to Spain on on just after I retire.

Hi Robbo, as always, timing is important to the process. The thing to bear in mind is they just need proof that your finances are okay. So proving what your monthly pension will be doesn’t require 6 months worth of statements, just something official that shows what your pension will be. The lump sum amount too can be shown on official paperwork. The only reason they ask for 6 months bank statements is to stop people borrowing a large sum from a friend for a month as a pretence and then paying it back. You have plenty of time to organise yourself and your paperwork, so that’s a big positive

The consulates used to have a copy on their website but the links seem to be broken now. If you scroll down this webpage you’ll see an email address to write to in order to get a completed medical form by a Spanish doctor so you won’t need to get it apostilled or translated. www.ageinspain.org/amp/non-lucrative-visa-nlv-guide

Hi, there are medical certificates issued just in English sometimes (or at least there were) so people are speaking from their own experience. These things change. I try to keep updating the links but the consulates and BLS are constantly failing to update their links when they make changes. I usually find the new ones fairly quickly now with Google, especially as my Spanish is getting better.

Hi, yes that income would count as ‘passive’ so can be included in your financial requirements. You’re in a great position with the exchange rate at the moment to move here from the US. It depends on the embassy. But mostly you just have to show that you’re definitely stopping working. I think Edinburgh embassy are the strictest, they seem to want a declaration from the tax man that you’ve closed your business.

If they will be considered a tax resident without staying 183days in the country. I’m not sure if having s Xmas vacation in another country for a month will remove you from being a tax resident.

Here’s a helpful guide to what to put on the form on this link below. It doesn’t say much on page two. I would say tick the ‘inicial’ box because it’s your initial application. I was beyond help… but don’t give up !!!! Finally I got it ! I think the entire thing was probably the worse thing ai have ever had to do. If every form had been in toddlers english it wasn’t easy, not to mention the first notary I saw was round the twist, the train trip to London from Cornwall took 6 hours, not to mention the hoo har of finding the dam Embassy despite black cab drivers meant to be amazing and can find a fart on the moon.. took him ages to get there and Im sure I passed the same woman and her dog three times! I had taken way too many forms but thats me all over, I didnt fancy a 420 mile trip only to find I had forgotten something. The hardest part was the 790 and all the faffle on the back! All the hassle of getting things translated and apostilled etc was enough to drive me insane. My second notary only had one eye so I had to show him everything from the right hand side.. but as I said, don’t give up. Don’t listen to those annoying “we know everything “ ex pats on places like FB as they really have no idea. This bloke has been correct for everything for me, even little things you might overlook. Theres always a translator and a big expense to get someone to do it for you. I didn’t because I had to pay out so much already on train fares and taxis just to get to the embassy! Hi Skatz You’ve kindly answered a couple of questions previously for me but my circumstances may now be different so I’d be grateful for any help you could provide. I’ve lived in Germany for 6 years and now want to relocate to Spain sometime later this year hopefully. I may now go and stay with family in the UK for a few months at the end of summer and apply from there for my NLV. However, I’m worried this may not work out and wondered if I continued paying German healthcare and kept my rented apartment here, basically staying ‘registered’ then would I be able to still apply from the UK? I don’t know if I would have to deregister here and register in the UK. I’m a British National btw. Thank you for any help.

Hi Wendy. Where you apply from is about where you are resident so you should apply in Germany. If you wanted to do this in the UK you’d have to stop being resident in Germany with all that entails. Have you lived there long enough to apply for citizenship?

@@youtoospain Hi and thank you for your reply. I don’t have citizenship nor have I planned on applying for it as I’m not proficient in the German language which is one of the requirements. So basically it seems from what you’ve said that I would need to deregister here and register in the UK. I’d just thought that I could avoid all that with it being a temporary stay of just a few months in the UK. My plan was to go back there (UK) end of august. My son moves to Spain in 3 weeks so I thought it would be wiser to give him a few months to see if he and his wife were definitely staying before I went through the whole Spanish visa application myself. That’s the reason I was considering keeping my rented apartment and healthcare here as if they come back to Germany and I’d deregistered then I’d have to go through the whole German application process from here as I’d no longer be covered by the withdrawal agreement and I definitely don’t want to do that! 😄 Brexit has certainly caused a lot more work for us expats and more so for nervous ditherers like me! 😂

@@wendyyoung5786 no, I wasn’t suggesting you deregister, I said you should remain a German resident and apply from there because of everything that deregistering entails, which is a lot. And it would complicate applying from the UK if you’d only just moved back there.

@@wendyyoung5786 okay, one of you issues with applying from the UK is you’d need to prove you live there and in the catchment area for the consulate, which means having your name on bills. Also if applying for the NLV you need to show you’re not working, which usually involves proof from HMRC or your last employer. I’m imagining an unusual and perhaps confusing paper trail for the official at the consulate to follow. If I was them I’d be wondering why you left Germany for a few months to apply in the UK.

@@youtoospain Thank you for that and I think you’ve helped make my decision easier as I couldn’t meet that criteria in the UK when just staying with family. I guess part of my dilemma of where to apply is because I’m concerned with the language here in Berlin so thought it would be easier from my home country. The Spanish consulate here hasn’t replied to my email still so I guess I just anticipated problems. I’d like to try to apply myself without throwing money at it as I’m trying to budget as best I can. I haven’t worked in years since I moved here. However, I’m wondering if I need the help of someone like Chris from upsticks assuming he would be able to do it for another country. I appreciate all help you’ve given and will buy you a ☕️!

Hi Ivan, I think that’s just for people who are named like they are in Spain. All Spanish people have two surnames, one from their father and one from their mother. I’m not sure which one is the second one. But if you don’t have one leave it blank.

Hey Barry, yes sorry about that. The embassy IT people must have made some changes without changing the links so quite a few pages seem to be inaccessible. I will keep checking and update the links as soon as they fix it at their end.

I'm applying for Non lucrative visa for myself and my wife. We will be applying to the Edinburgh Spanish Consulate, I would need to show a P45 for myself as recently retired and was wondering if my wife who retired in 2020 needs to show her P45 also ?

Hi Gary, not if there’s proof of state pension going into your bank and no evidence of her getting wages. But it wouldn’t do any harm to have it too.

Gary, I got my nlv from Edinburgh last month. One thing to mention: I took in my original ACRO and the apostilled ACRO. They asked for a photocopy. I told them I didn't know I needed that. They were very nice and the guy made his own photocopy of the apostilled ACRO, kept that and gave me my two originals back. I also had a copy of my P60. Not interested and they gave me that back. I'd take a copy anyway, just in case.

@@Mohamed-qj5pi you said you were applying for the Non Lucrative Visa. If you put on the form that you have an occupation then your application will be rejected. You need to have either passive income such as a pension, or savings, or a combination of the two.

@@Mohamed-qj5pi I’m not sure how I can make this any clearer. You absolutely cannot work on the Non Lucrative Visa, as a workman or anything else. You will need to live on your savings only. You can’t earn any money. Do you understand?

The 60k is sufficient for your financial requirements as long as it’s immediately accessible if needed. Your current monthly income is irrelevant unless it’s passive income.

@@hodlmoonxrp if you can convince officials in the Spanish embassy in the UK that high risk cryptocurrency is something you can rely on to support you for an extended period and be something you can instantly draw upon should you need it, then yes you can use it. Good luck with that.
