Hello! This is a tour of the first house we lived in when we moved to Okinawa.
Admittedly, you can probably tell from the video, there was a fair bit we didn't like about it despite it being a beautiful and unique home. We ended up moving to a SIGNIFICANTLY smaller apartment after one year similar to the Tokyo apartment you see in this video.
While we had to sell almost everything we owned to do it, we're much happier in the new place and I'll make a video of it as well comparing. However, it will be much delayed as a matter of course.
Anyway, if you're looking at moving to Okinawa, I hope you find this video helpful to give an idea of what $2,000 looks like in Okinawa!

We were paying $99 for a detached house off-base in Machinato until 1972.

we are paying 2k for a mansion in naha. i think you got a better deal. thats the military supplied housing off base right?

There is no military supplied housing off base you have to find the houses yourself when I was there I visited a real estate office and they had a map of all the empty houses in the area.....you find something then pay them a finders fee which sucked....lol we were outside Kadena near the sea wall for about a yr. then moved on base for another 3 yrs. (the waiting list for on base housing was long) I liked it there but I was there 78-82 and they didn't have any of the new stuff back then. I wouldn't mind living in a big tower if they had then back then....wouldn't have to mow the yard...lol it was the same at any base I was assigned if I wanted to live off base I had to find it myself sometimes you can find a listing at the on base housing office for a certain area or certain price. Enjoy your mansion in Naha if you're still there.....👍 cheers :)
