What Does a Giant Monster Neodymium Magnet Do to My Brain?

In this video I see what happens when I bring a giant neodymium magnet near my head. Does it hurt? Can I feel it? Do humans have magnetoreceptors? I discuss magnetoreception and that many animals and even mammalls can sense the magnetic field lines of the earth. So I test it on myself and my wife using a blindfolded experiment. See if humans are able to sense magnetic fields!

Maybe you have the ability to sense the opposite of a magnet
@yaksher
@yaksher 6 лет назад
That's called being able to sense a magnet and misinterpreting your senses. He knows when _something_ is passing and there's a bunch of things like sound, wind, etc. that he can latch onto that will prevent him from differentiating nothing from magnet-which parts are because of a magnet and which are just because something's moving near him-which can lead to confusion.
@t.c.bramblett617
@t.c.bramblett617 6 лет назад
Maybe lol... If that were true though there would be a clear opposite trend... as it is, the results are consistent with random results. Of course, what is really needed is a much larger sample size, maybe 10,000 trials divided among several different people :)

I don't usually comment on RU-vid, but I feel like I have to give credit where credit is due. You are frickin' amazing at showing how scientific method works! During its first steps, this channel was just a copycat of hydraulic press channel, but now you managed to make it probably one of the best scientific channels on YT. :) Keep up the good work!!!

I agree because, dude, u have to consider the "plausible deniability". Wife: "Yes, Your Honor, it was completely my deceased husband's ill-conceived idea to have me pass an unsecured 10 pound weight around and round his head numerous times until my hands became sweaty and fatigued and that's when the heavy wight slipped from my grasp and most regrettably crushed his skull. And my only solace now that I am a poor bereaved widow is in the merciful fact that he died instantly." Judge: And the million dollar life insurance policy that you conveniently took out on your husband just that morning...was that too just an accident? Wife: "No, not really, Your Honor. My husband had been experimenting with the effects that a strong magnet might have on his brain...and he told me he had had a very vivid premonition that his demise was immanent and he wanted to see that my financial future was secure. He was such a loving man and a wonderful human being...I can't believe, sniff, that he is, sniff, sniff, sniff, gone forever!" Judge: "Case dismissed." And I rest mine. Dude, what were u thinking?!

If you think that saying there's no god is hypocrisy and insulting, then, so is the one saying there's god in a science channel where people from different cultures will see their post. Let's not forget that there are religions with no god and the post about god will be insulting to them and the person will sound a hypocrite. Keep belief to religious channels or prepare to get challenged.

Doctors have been using magnetic pulses to treat depression for a few years now. First they direct the magnetic waves to a focused spot in the brain that forces your thumb to twitch and from there they know where they're aiming and they can use the pulses to attempt to stimulate the areas of the brain that may be malfunctioning or under developed.

I think for the magnet vs weight experiment you should use a a peace of steel in place of the weight as the weight is covered in rubber or perhaps even silicone which may hold static charge which is easier to detect due to it's attraction of small hairs and perhaps some positive ions such as potassium which are on the opposite end of the spectrum of the triboelectric series compared to the negatively charged silicone

If you enter the bore of an MRI quickly, you can definitely feel an effect. It can make you nauseous and dizzy. This affect is usually not noticed when you are a patient since the "bed" slides in slowly.

As we all that there is a preasence of fe(iron) in our blood but still we are diamagnetic( repelled by magnets) maybe we need a infinitely strong magnet to fell the preasence of those magnetic fields

Wow way interesting. l thought that for sure you would be able to tell when the magnet was by your head! My Grandma Lee, your ggrandma used to wear a magnet bracelet and claimed it had healing properties in it. l used to sleep on a magnet pillow and it was supposed to have healing properties in it too. Also, people say you should sleep north to south not east to west. ls there any truth to that?

The truth is that placebo effect is very strong. If you believe something helps you, especially in subjective things like happiness or “energy”, it usually does:)

Oddly, I thought the plastic coating on the weight may have picked up enough static charge to cause _some_ kind of influence interpreted as 'magnet'. They should look around for something made of steel, heavy, without any coating.

I grew up sailing quite a lot. I learned to point out North without seeing the sky or anything else to assist me. I challanged my self when opportunity was given (like waking up when we already set sail) to guess north and then to go check and i was constantly correct within +/- 20 degrees. Lost the ability as i grew up and didnt spend the same amount of long periods on boats.

hey why don't u see if magnetic attraction differs In vacuum or no??
@KingofHearts67
@KingofHearts67 6 лет назад
Ritesh Lama The difference would probably be immeasurable.
@Sage_BM_6467
@Sage_BM_6467 6 лет назад
Ritesh Lama I think there wouldn't be a difference because magnetic fields of planets work completely fine in space do you agree
@KingofHearts67
@KingofHearts67 6 лет назад
Science Central I think there would be a difference because vacuum has a different permeability then air but it would probably take tools of very high precision to see it.
@riteshlama6780
@riteshlama6780 6 лет назад
Science Central there way more difference between the gravity of planets and magnetic attraction
@riteshlama6780
@riteshlama6780 6 лет назад
KingofHearts67 what I think is the magnetic attraction in air must be weak as it acts as a insulator. just like u place something just dense as air for example a copy between the two magnets then the attraction is weaker

I just saw this video (and loved it as usual) but I gotta say me and my girlfriend tried like 1 year ago to sense a little stone of ferritine. In our case what we did was to place it close to the ear and in not much time it gave us a nice headache that in my case lasted some hours. Hugs from Spain!

I would say the experiment showed that we DO have some weak ability to sense magnets, because with both tries the right/wrong ratio was strongly leaning towards wrong, even though it should've been 50/50.
