What Does a Guitar Sound Like Plugged Into a Synth? - Moog Matriarch 

Matriarch owner here. A few distinctions I feel like should be made about this application: 1) The VCA must be on for the external instrument input to work. In the video, notice how the VCA Mode is set to Drone (so the VCA is constantly on), and all of the oscillators and the noise source are turned down in the mixer. If you're playing in Amp Envelope or Split mode, the guitar or external instrument will only play through when the ADSR cycle of the VCA is going. In other words, you have to be playing a key or running a sequence for the guitar to also make sound. You can dial in the oscillators for drones or a chord progression sequence while you're playing, if you like. 2) There is no volume control in the mixer for the external 1/4" Instrument In jack. Matriarch provides +20dB of gain. 3) Even with all the oscillators and noise source turned down in the mixer, I found that there wasn't a lot of headroom when I plugged in my guitar. It distorts very quickly. The best use of this Instrument In jack is for clean, gently picked notes, as shown here in this video. 4) The filter and delay does sound REALLY good with a guitar run through it. ;)

It's funny cause I've seen really talented people noodling around like this and coming up with some breathtaking shit... this on the other hand sounds exactly like what you expect noodling to sound like. I feel like if the guitarist was playing something with more of a point to it then maybe the knob twiddler could have found some tonally or texturally interesting things to go with it. Instead we're treated to something equivalent to when the blues guy sits down in a guitar store to experiment with a modulation/delay pedal and confuses "spatial" with "aimless".

In short.., use proper pedals.
