i had my first tattoo last week aged 57, i actually feel asleep as i found it very relaxing watching the artist work. didnt feel pain or discomfort. was my forearm and it took over two hours

Just got my first tattoo done yesterday, It's on my right forearm and the way I would summarize the tattoo pain would be that it's as if someone took a toothpick, pressed it down on your body and scratched you with it. It hurts, but it's bareable.

The only thing that holds me back in getting a tattoo is money.

From my experience( I got a full colour arm sleeve and almost finished my leg sleeve) it doesn’t really hurt until the 3-4 hour mark in the tattoo, also colour hurts WAY more then then black and grey. I’d suggest getting 2-3 3 hour sessions instead of being a idiot like me and sitting for 9 hours straight, my calf piece was straight torture the last hour or 2!!

Breaking my tattoo virginity Saturday! My grandmother passed away just over 10 years ago. She was super religious and had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother, her favorite hymn at Mass was the prayer of St. Francis, the main words are "Make me a channel of your peace" Years ago i did my eagle scout project, i redid a Blessed Mother grotto, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. My mom and i were at a nursery to get flowers and found blue (what she calls Blessed Mother Blue, its baby blue with a white tinge) Peace roses. For the last decade i wanted to do something for my grandmother. Long story short, I got hurt in boot camp and ended up separating. Sitting in separation it came to me! Its going to be a "Blessed Mother blue and white tinge Peace Rose, wrapped by an old looking scroll that says "Make me a channel of your peace" and i cant wait to get it! Im kinda glad i waited till i was more mature to get a tattoo and i want to get more but at the very least i know that for me and many more, tattoos have to have a meaning behind them!

I recently got a forearm tattoo and if you really want to know how it feels, it’s pretty much a berrable hot needle going a round yourself skin, shadings hurt less

I have two tattoos if I can describe it for my first tattoo which was on my wrist it felt like a cat scratch but it doesn’t hurt as bad as that sounds but when the artist was going to my veins it began to feel like some one was carving into my skin The second one which on my sternum to my stomach it felt like it was carving into my skin but some parts did hurt but overall it was bearable and surprisingly getting my stomach tattooed didn’t hurt

I'm 15, and getting my first tattoo on my forearm next week. Me and my best friend are getting matching ones (infinity symbol over lapping a heart with the words "best spuds" - long story lol- in the infinity symbol). Nervous, but excited to be able to give me something to remember our friendship for the rest of my life. I wouldn't be alive if it weren't for her. That's the reason i'm getting it on my forearm, it's going to cover the scars of my past of which she's helped me through.

I’m getting my last name on my right outer forearm in the “we the people” writing style. My wife is getting the phrase “everyone is weird” in typewriter style on her inner forearm. We’re both pretty nervous since it’s our first. 😬 We’re getting them done together next Wednesday. I’m terrible with mind over matter situations. Last year I had three different appointments to get an MRI done on my mid back because I kept chickening out. I still haven’t done it. But here I am, getting my first tattoo. 😂

I got my first tattoo on my thigh literally two days ago. For me personally, it felt like a combination of a really hard pinch and a cat scratch. It definitely did not hurt as much as I expected it to. I will say this, make sure you eat, and eat more than you think you have to. I did not eat enough before my tattoo and nearly passed out. (Not from the pain, but the low blood sugar.) Just eat and you'll be fine!

I would actually expect the forearm (particularly outer forearm) to be one of the least painful places on your body, because generally thats where I feel the least intense pain. And logically thats also the part of your body you would use to block strikes during combat (if you dont have weapons or a shield of course), so it makes sense that body part feels the least pain. I just got my first tattoo yesterday (on the upper arm) and to me, it definetly felt like a cat scratch (only did lining so far, and will color it next time). But then again it feels different for everyone. I did thankfully bring hearing protection, and if I didnt I think the sound of that tattoo machine would have been the worst part of the tattoo experience and maybe make me not manage it at all. It is a very uncomfortable/scary/annoying sound that I think maybe more people should be warned about, why is that not talked about?

I want to get a 16 roman numeral tattoo on my wrist with a small heart on the right side with a sixteen going through it. I'm scared but I ain't gone be no punk. I've heard people say that it hurt them but I will never know how it feels for me if I don't try it. So I'm going to get it and start a conversation because that usually distracts you from annoying things or pain anyways. Your advice really helped thank you.

I have decided when I am able to afford my very first tattoo I am going to be getting a dream catcher, (important to me due to family heritage) on my bicep, black and grey, and I wanna get a blue Morpho butterfly sitting on the top right or left of the ring of the dream catchers in color I MAY get another blue Morpho in some where maybe in flight(my favorite butterfly,and they symbolize healing, which is something I strive to do mentally, to heal) I want four beads in the webbing of the dream catcher all four in color(beads in dreamcatchers in Native American culture are dreams that have transformed into sacred charms, but the beads are also going to symbolize my mother, my grandmother, and my baby twin brothers.)

Lately I been thinking about the idea of what id want for a tattoo, something meaningful enough to get and where to place it, how I want it to look, etc... I never really thought much about it before, and thinking about it now is really difficult for me, because there isn't many concepts that come into mind for me to consider tatting it onto my body... All I could think was maybe a clock tattoo or a rosary tattoo, both on my right forearm... and I been looking up images of people with similar tattoos, and I could barely find any that I'd also consider getting on me, and it's such a nice looking tattoo but I know it won't look the same on me, every artist is different and they all do their own thing on it, so it's just a game of chance in a way... Asides from the already existing anxiety in general for me, the idea of getting a tat is far fetched, but i do like the idea of having one, it's just idk if ill be able to get it done the way i want... Is this something every tattoo user deals with in a way too? (like if you go into a shop and show them an image of a tattoo you'd like to get, can you expect it to come out even close to that? ...or does the tattoo you have in mind come out the way you expected in the end, for good or bad?)
