This hit me hard seeing morecombe like this. As a young 6 yr old visiting back in the late 80s with my Grandparents, Frontierland was my highlight. Going into the smoky western seafront bars with fake guns going off was brilliant. Now in my 40s, with parents and grandparents gone, it's sad that the memories will never be relived. 😢
❤ very similar situation here but I used to holiday in Morecambe every summer last time was 1980 back then it was lovely, so busy, wonder if you remember the Kentucky Derby you threw balls into holes and horses moved along like a race! Sadly I don't have parents or grandparents now but I'm in my 50s regards
@@dougieb2159 I remember those hyclon 80s days like yesterday, this place was always so busy and so full until late night everytime we were there, such a sad miss
So that tiny travelling funfair is on the site of what used to be the 'Bubbles' swimming complex. The drone video only shows a part of the Former Frontierland site. Morrisons supermarket took over a large part of it and that's just the bit that's left. Amazed to see that part of the log flume is still there though. Morecambe used to be such a fantastic place, so many happy childhood memories of Frontierland and Happy Mount Park (which incidentally is where Blobbyland was, not on the Frontierland site).
Noel Edmonds Blobbyland wasn't on this site. It was in the still existing Happy Mount Park at the other northern end of the seafront. It was a disaster and the local authority got well burned fingers because of it.
I remember when they said we were getting a log flume at Morecombe. My friend said it was going to be the same size as the one in Blackpool. Is wasn't and i was so upset 😪
It is criminal how Morecambe once a fantastic family resort as been allowed to go into decline. I see the Polo tower is no longer. Why on earth it was even erected in the first place was totally beyond my comprehension because it was never going to bring back the tourists. Many a happy year had living in Morecambe and it is very sad to see it's demise. Though Lancaster council can take much of the blame.
The polo Tower was part of the theme park and not erected after, but I agree it's criminal and the eden thing while a great idea, will absolutely bomb with no parking
@@squaddingquads Anything positive that can breath life back in to Morecambe surely would be most welcome. I visited a friend a few years after leaving Morecambe and was distressed to see how very grubby it looked. Whilst the sea front does look rather pretty on the eye it is the town centre and outlying areas that could do with a complete make over. Thank you for the video and the memories.
@@michaelcampbell5039 oh absolutely 100% yes! We love visiting for the quiet but it need life, desperately. I just don't see such a big attraction with zero car parking provisions having the impact it would have if there was parking (I understand they want to encourage public transportation etc but personally, I'm disabled and couldn't visit if I couldn't use a car) but the more investment, the better!
Everyone I speak to says the same, it's such a shame. I visited in the 80s and the place was a literal boom town. Been visiting for the last 3 years and it isn't a patch on what it used to be. It's nice having a beach thsrs virtually abandoned though :)
The "tiny travelling fair" is on the site that was the largest outdoor lido in Europe! It was then reduced to a smaller outdoor pool complex before finally being closed in 1993. There was the Polo Mint tower in the grounds of the funfair, which had telecom dishes on it but that was removed not that long ago. Last I heard the former funfair site was being turned in to a retail park. Just what a seaside town needs on the seafront! However, if the Eden Project gets off the ground it will transform the seafront completely, but do people really want to visit a seaside town to go in a large greenhouse? Congratulations to Lancaster Council for completely killing a seaside town and creating a ghost town instead. Sadly, the councillors who fell out with the Thompson family (yes the family that owns Blackpool Pleasure Beach) and refused their plans to extend the park, are not on the council anymore. I hope you are all pleased with your actions back in 1993 as it was you who put the nail in Morecambe's Victorain Seaside Coffin. Probably the same idiots who have managed to kill Rhyl by closing the funfair and selling the land tto create a large retail park for Aldi, The Range etc. Yeah, just what the tourists need.
I agree the Thompson family pulling out killed the Town. The eden project looks amazing BUT if tiu read the docs, there is to be no parking, while there is a train station, what about disabled people and families? Retail parks in seaside towns kills the smaller shops that people actually go to the seaside for, I just don't understand the actions of the council here at all.
I’ve lived in morecambe for 30yrs , and used to holiday here as a nipper in the 70s and 80’s i remember it busy as hell will a carting track up in the village and all the shops and cafe’s with apple tree’s , i remember seeing rocky the dolphin and the big wheel , the place was awesome back then , but now , its a ghost town , the retail park we was supposed to get was ment to have a freeport (what we got a was a seconds shop off the reebok factory that used to be on white lund) most the shops morecambe had have gone and if this eden project north happens and gets built , i just dont see families flocking for holiday to walk round an oversized golfball looking greenhouse , because theres nothing els to do , bowling and lazer quest & arcades oh and a tiny fairground thats on the grounds of where the eden project is going to be so it wont be there by end of summer season as thats when eden project building work is ment to begin
Had some great memories as a child of this place.weekend trips&holidays.. It's still a nice place to visit today little run down maybe..lack of investment It's a shame the what's left of frontierland..an empty site it would make sence to relocate the travelling fair to that site. ...
I'd absolutely love to see it rebuilt but sadly after all this time it won't be I spent many a hour there and at Southport, both now reduced to history, such a shame
Blobbyland was at happy Mount Park up the road, where that tiny fun fair is, was bubbles water park which clossed round about the same time to be replaced by eden project.
@@squaddingquads I miss frontierland was only there the other day was telling my friend how great the place was in the 90s. It needs something there but the council look like they don't want tourists.
Really sad to see it like this, unfortunately I just don't think the investment will ever be there again, they can't take out childhood memories though eh :)
@@squaddingquads No they can't. I remember my Grandad rocking the log flume and getting us stuck at the top of the drop 😂 Do you like Blackpool Pleasure Beach?
That's correct, apologies, I've corrected it in the comments etc but can't change the video however will be doing a follow up shortly and will put this right
Good some great memories of Frontierland, it's such a shame to of seen nothing worthy to replace it in over 20 years now. The Eden Project I assume is still going ahead, but the pandemic may of halted plans, but fingers crossed. The travelling funfair as featured on the video is supposed to be where it's to be built. But I wouldn't say this tiny funfair has replaced it, but I think I know in which concept you were meaning?
The eden thing looks amazing but no car parking seems like a disaster in waiting, even now it's hard to park and it's a bit dead, I just wish someone would build a new theme park :(
@@squaddingquads I didnt know the plans are without car-parking, that's a bit silly, but the car-parking where Jump Rush is situated would be best place to park or if you were lucky outside where Frontierland was, it is free to park! I used to park there during the day after working nights at Heysham Power station. But Pay & display car-parking is dotted round that area, so I guess that one reason for it, the council will make a lot of money if people use that service. The train station isn't far away too tbf...
@@fuzzy-g8898 yup they'll make plenty of coin no doubt, it's apparently done to promote public transport use and if you can, the train is great, but not everyone can sadly
Tiny funfair I find that hard to believe try putting some gloves on and then see how tiny we are as a company over 45 different rides and attractions behave will ya
I didn't in anyway mean to offend, my comment wad in relation to how big Frontier land was vs what the area has now, I think you guys do an amazing job and we always have a great time, again, this was just clumsy language and in no means meant to offend, I'll be doing an update video this summer and I'll put this right 💪💪💪
Yup, it was full of water today, I didn't venture too far as morrisons were keeping an eye on me. The pumping station looked to have had a fire, while the log flume was broken in parts. Next time I visit Morecambe, it will probably be redeveloped
@@nathan83699 I'd have assumed it would have been redeveloped when I last visited about 12 years ago..... There must be a tourism usage for such a site, Frontier land was such a great place (for its time)
