Can you explain why an adult child who already has DPOA over elderly parent would file for conservatorship?
@PamelaDWilsonCaregivingExpert
Without knowing all of the details it could be because the parent is disagreeing with what the adult child wants to do. If this is the case and the parent is cognitively impaired and there is undeniable proof then it's likely the conservatorship would be granted by the court.

My husband printed off all the stuff on guardianship from your website. My concern of taking this responsibility is I live 2 hours away. I can’t quit my job. I have 2 more yrs to work then retire. There is no one else to take control or that wants it. I truly don’t know if I should seek her Dr to recommend me to full guardianship because of those things and extreme burnout.
@PamelaDWilsonCaregivingExpert
Darlene - you can always hire a "local care manager" who can be on the ground to help you so that you can continue to work and live your lives. I served in this capacity for many family guardians who did not live in the same area as their parents.

@@PamelaDWilsonCaregivingExpert so where would I look for such a person?
@PamelaDWilsonCaregivingExpert
@@darlenebrown3993 Several places. Call the local adult protective services office and ask if they can recommend a care manager. You can go to www.guardianship. org. You can also ask a probate or elder law attorney for a recommendation, as many of them work with care managers and professional guardians.

I’m concerned about my friend who is elderly like most of us. He married a lady 5 years ago and he had a stroke this year. His wife has always been a greedy person and is now spending money like crazy. She has brought her 50 year old son over to live in one of his rental houses. She gives him a thousand dollars a month for food. Everything is paid by the wife. I’m concerned enough that I would like for one of his sons or daughter take over the financials and the rental payments. Give her an allowance. All the other bills would be paid by the children.
@PamelaDWilsonCaregivingExpert
Riley - If you are concerned and this person is your friend. I would approach his children and let them know what's happening and about your concerns. Is your friend concerned and aware of what it happening? It may be possible for his children to become his guardian and conservator. @@PamelaDWilsonCaregivingExpert Thank you so much. I’ve spoken with his daughter and ended up in a confrontation with the wife. I expressed my concerns with her keeping him away from friends and family. Told everyone that they have to make an appointment with her to see him. That’s when I told her that I thought what she was doing is elder abuse. She got mad but miraculously, he could see his friends again. That’s what I’m concerned. I will look into the link you sent. Thank you again.
