In this video we try to explain what the terms High Level and Low Level mean. These are terms used a lot in the 12volt world, so know what they mean can be helpful. we hope you enjoy.
Hello Carl from the uk I have jvc -db98bt can I use 4 out put/rca on stereo to amp for front and back speakers and sub/rca output to another amp for my under seat 10”sub speaker and high level to my two 14” subwoofer box switch as it integrated amp all together
so how would you know what to set the levels at on the loc itself? Noone really explains that in much detail. At least I have yet to find a guide that does. Thx.
You need a distortion detector like smd dd1 .use radio speaker line to read playing a 0 db track at 40hz. Turn radio volume until red light turn s on dd1 then back radio volume until light just goes off. That's your radio volume . Example volume 30 is clean.then on your loc,(line-out converter) there's a volume & bass adjustment. Use dd1 at rca lines out of loc adjust volume on loc until light comes on on dd1 then back the volume just before the light is on still using the 0 db at 40hz tone. Now you set the gains on radio& loc. Now at the amplifier you will disconnect speakers & play a -10 db 40hz tone for the bass amplifier. While putting the volume 30 on radio because you know is clean signal. Starting with amplifier volume from 0 put the dd1 lines on amplifier speaker terminals, start raising volume until light comes on at dd1 then back just before it turns on now you set the gains. If you wanna do 4 channel amplifier do the same only difference is you would play a -5 db tone at 1k. Now you all set . To get ideas watch setting gains on smd dd1 by Steve meade hope this helps because I know I had to research and self taught 😀 enjoy your day
Got an amp that accepts high level up to 10v as input. You think the high level speaker wire voltage of factory radio is less than 10v or it’ll be around 11v like this video?
Hello Five Star Car Stereo, I have an 2015 Lexus ES300h, The bass is lacking and I want to upgrade the stock Subwoofer. I purchased an audio control ACM-1.300 and am going to replace the stock sub with a 8" JL 8W1v3-4. My question is... Can i use the stock subwoofer signal that goes to the sub to feed my amp, and plug it into the "speaker level" on the ACM? or whats the best way to do this?
In my subwoofer i have both high level and low level but the stereo have only high level, should i buy a converter or can just connect it by using the high level and what is the cons of using high level. Tnx
U want the best out of ur amp.... Don't go RCA'S.... Use ur stereo speaker out, connected it to ur speaker input in ur amp... And u get more Power, RCA'S don't have any power, stereo SPEAKERS OUT have normally 50w per Channel.... Thank u :)
Hi Dean and Fernando. My head unit only has 4 rca outputs ( front & rear/sub). I'd like to run 2 amps. One mono amp for my subs and a 4channel for the mids and highs. My 4channel supports high level inputs. I want to retain balance and fader while still having subwoofer control through the head unit. Will I be sacrificing sound quality by using this method to connect to my speakers? Is there another way to do this. Thanks in advance
If I want to use the front speakers wires as the high level inputs, can I still use the front speaker wires to power the front speakers and send the high level signal to the amp's high level signal?
Thanks. For many many years, I always thought the high level inputs were for HPF input. Above the LPF cutoff. Such as if you were using the amp, not for subs, but for tweeters. But in escence, its like a line level input, and low level is akin to a phono input? Am I right?
So ..... after watching this the only question i have is what does the high level input do on my amp ? Can i use the spkr output from my factory head(HA)unit to my amp ? And( iknow you're not supposed to start a sentence with and) does the " H L I " use more voltage than the RCA output ? And also should I have paid more attention to the video instead of worrying about what my comment structure , grammatical complexities and possible misconceptive perception pertaining to intellectually complex hummoristic antomologic idioms going to be or was it a hammer nail collision ? Lol
Can anybody tell me or forward me to a video that shows me what I need to add to my system? I have 1 12 sub and an alpine amp and I added 4 super tweeters to the inside. I'm just trying to amp my insides pretty much. Thanks.
I've installed a Kenwood KAC-M1814 correctly on a 2017 Elantra but I'm curious about my factory head unit speakers (high level) output. I'm using a DMM to measure the max voltage and when the radio volumen is all the way up, it displays 4.1 Vrms using a 1 kHz, 0 db test tone. Is this enough voltage to work with the amplifier since I think I'm not getting the max output from it. Also, what will happen if the speaker level input are reversed? Thanks
Question with pioneer deh 80prs. The body of radio has two switches one for std or network which I understand. Then there is a hi or lo switch for the aux input. Stereo has rca jack. I am using rca to headphone adapter is this a hi or low level input.
I have a question... Do i need a hi/low converter if the amp can handle high level input... For example a power pack or a micro amp? And why do i need one?
which one do give a better sound quality is it rca cables or connecting it with high level coz ive seen some amp being connected with high level push way more hard sound rather than rca i just want to know which one give a better n clear sound
speaker zedan yeah I just watch a Kicker video talking about that. We tried it the other day and it sounded terrible. That is not to say they all will. You just have to remember the amp outputs clips out way before the RCAs.
Why did you only plug one rca into the Pac Loc? Wouldn't you need both White and red rca terminals to create that 2.0 volts? Just curious! And how about the lp-7 4 Pac Loc? I bought one because I thought more Eva's the better huh? Can you do me a solid and make a video on how to hook that up properly!? I have a 2018 chevy spark and wanna add a 8" sundown and amp.
I want to build a very very loud service system any suggestions on what I need as far as 6x9s amps and a big brown speaker oh yes also RC wires do they make a difference
Hello. I have it connected to the factory radio from the speaker output to the 110a sub speaker on the rca cinceve, although I have a high input on the amplifier. Would it sound better if I connected it to a high input since the signal is high from the radio speaker?
So is high/low level soley based off of voltage? Or is watts part of the equation? Reason I ask is I'm only getting 2 volts from my speaker output on my factory harley davidson head unit and all the bike shops are telling me to select hi level input on my dsr1. But when I do that the gains are 90% up and I get alot of amplifier noise. And it sounds much better with the dsr1 set to low level 2v input. But I have warrantied 3 sound digital amps that have started cutting out. Wondering if selecting low level is hurting the amps. And with low level 2v selected in the dsr1 im getting about 3.8v out of the dsr1
My new amp has a high level input and four RCA connections for my four speakers. Why would I want to use the high level input connections if I have the RCA connections? I wish Dean would write a book on different ways to install car radios and why they are different with lots of diagrams. Better yet, I wish there was a web site where you can punch in all the audio components you are using in your car , the make of your car, radio, and amp, and it would do all the calculations hence tell you what size wires you need, length, and especially it would tell you why one way of wiring a radio is different than another and the best way to go.
I have high front and high rear rca on my head unit but my amplifier dosent have high level rca input, it only has low level input can i place the high level rca to the low level input :)
Hopefully you see this cause I needed some help. If my amp has both low level and high level inputs would it put out the same sound if I had a subwoofer connected to the amp. I was wondering because if low level would make it sound better I would get a converter but if there is no difference then I wouldn’t do that.
I have a 2010 Ford Escape with sync navigation touch screen... does it have low level output? I don’t know if I need to connect a line output converter to that or to somewhere else in my car because I have a factory subwoofer and amp in the back right so idk what to do with that when I connect my new amp and sub enclosure in my trunk
Hello I have a 2017 F150 with the sync system. The voltage of the speaker outs range from 0v to 8v depending on the volume level on the stock head unit. My amplifier supports up to 8v inputs can I just slap on some RCA connectors on the front left and front right outputs from the factory radio and connect it to my amplifier? Or do I need a Hi-Lo converter?
Say you are using the low level (RCA) from the headunit to the Main amplifier low level input (RCA). Then from the Main amplifier speaker output into the HI level 4pin input of another amp in the trunk. Could an audio delay occur, if both amps are Digital amps?
Thanks fellas as always. So does high voltage means lower gain settings? i ask because people always talk about turning gains up to get more sound. i always thought the higher the output voltage the higher your amp gains would be, which is what you want. correct?
Brian Miles the higher the output voltage, like a 4 volt radio, the lower your gains will need to be. We are trying to come up with a easy way to get that a cross in a video. Hopefully one day soon.
@@FiveStarCarStereoInc Okay soo I've got a question for you guys... And that question is; I have an aftermarket touch double din. So what i want to know is; yes I have RCA inputs for front rear and sub and high level input from the harness obviously. So what do you honestly think gives out the best audio output...? For me to hook up RCA's or to run the high level wires and solder & hear shrink em to the wires on the harness in the back of my unit...? Also wanted to know but I mean im pretty sure you kinda explained it in this video and other people have in other videos, but I want to be 1000% sure to not do something completely unnecessary or ruin something... But anyways, if I decide to hook up via "high level input," right... Do I still need to hook up any RCA wires at all? (& That's for hooking my fronts and backs to the amplifier.) Or is that honestly the whole freaking intended point 😄of using "high level inputs" is when you either don't want or have no RCA inputs in a say... Stock radio...? Right? Sorry for such a possibly confusing and long message I've just been looking all over the internet and can't seem to get a 100% straight answer to what I just asked it's usually close to what I want to know but not exact.

how about the difference between balanced and unbalanced rca's in car audio? im used to those terms in pro audio concerning the sheilding. think that would make a good video.
@@letsgonow5641 Hello. I have it connected to the factory radio from the speaker output to the 110a sub speaker on the rca cinceve, although I have a high input on the amplifier. Would it sound better if I connected it to a high input since the signal is high from the radio speaker
I know why it's called high and low level but you still didn't explain what it means, as your title indicates. This should indicate what it does and what the benefits are of high over low or low over high and why they need to be adjusted. Thanks
I had a self-amplified sound bar installed in the back of my ford pickup and I used a high low converter to convert the higher amped signal from my factory speaker wires to the lower amped signal requirement for the sound bar input. But there is a great deal of distortion in the sound bar when I play it through the factory radio. Playing it through Bluetooth is crisp and clear. Why? Can I clean up the radio audio through the sound bar by maybe using a better high to low converter? Why does audio distort from high to low?
Thank you for your video I am getting a amplifier and it had a option for low or high input level and now I know that my aftermarket stereo is a low level input

Where are the multimeter probes connected? I assume the red probes are connected to the + signal wire, but for the black probe, is it connected to the ground or to the negative speaker wire?
