What I appreciate about Mike’s instruction is his masterful blending of language, and visual instruction. I’ve repeatedly seen excellent golfers who can’t teach, because they don’t know how to communicate effectively. Teaching is an art, and not everyone has the skills to do it. I feel this video is an example of teaching at its best. Mike beautifully blends the task of SHOWING me what to do, with TELLING me how to do it. Wonderful instruction!

I never get tired of listening to Mike's golfing journey. After spending more than 3 years of really trying to understand his swing theory, the eureka moment finally hits......its all about swing momentum and pivot points.....and how the golf swing feels is not at all what it looks. Your sessions with Mike are priceless.

Thanks to RU-vid we’ll never know if anyone disliked this video. Its 2022 , idk who would dislike this, but I enjoy hearing people that are able connect their thoughts and logic, then explain it in coherent manner thats unique to their own philosophy and experience. I think thats what makes great teachers stand out, they never follow another instructors rubric, but at the same time would never dismiss or degrade the way another instructor teaches or what they learned growing up because it ultimately led them to the point theyre at now.

I'm an ex tour player myself turned into a coach. I was the exact print copy of the trainwreck. Now I have teenage kids who were exposed to the same conditions i was under. All this talk about this day, this performance of the day doesnt matter truly works. After playing competitive golf from junior days to professional level for 25+ years, the human development side of the game much much bigger than the performance. I've had ppl take up golf after seeing me play and turned professional themselves, told me it was due to how my character charmed them in the golfing world rather than my performances on the course. Guys who watch his video seriously needs to take note of what he says in this video. My way of thinking for golf is, stress free golf. Were out there to get out of the daily stresses of living so why should you stress yourself? Trust me playing under stress is not advisable. Not to mention playing under pressure is exciting compared to playing under stress. Once again a great video to the team of get better golf. I would love to get in touch with Mike as a new aspiring coach myself but am afraid of taking his valuable time that could be used else where.

@35:44 Mike: “What gets in everybody’s way of performance is when the outcome of the shot, or the score you shoot, has some implication on who you think you are as a person or the value of how much you practiced ..” Sadly, this is me to a T(ee), on both counts. And @37:17 "...we have a chance to win ... Now what happens if we don't? You're no worse off than you are right now. You can't lose". Pure gold! It looks like my most important golf practice needs to take place between the ears on not on the range or the course ...

I must have watched this one atleast 5 times and every word Mike says is it's weight worth in gold. I have watched and read almost all from golf scientists to teachers to pros. I'm a golf nut. The best thing is Mike is the most relevant person and teacher to learning and enjoying golf . Mike is honestly driven by desire to help people learn the right things the right ways and sharing his knowledge and experiences in as pure way as possible. He speaks honestly from where he has been and he has been through it all. Mike you are the best and right teacher in the game. There are a lot of times I did not trust you blindly but clarified by watching , listening and trying to you repeatedly and I understood and had my eye openers. That's your experience ,greatness and genuineness. Thanks.

That's the great thing with Mike Malaska, he doesn't necessarily manipulate and change your swing to how he thinks it should be, but works with what you have and what you're capable of doing, making your swing, the best it can possibly be.

I recently played with a former Cdn & US mini tour player who is now age 36 and works full time at an office. He doesn't play much golf these days but I can assure you he was amazing to watch. We both played tips and I was consistently outdriven 35-50 yards and I'm not that short. One of his drives was over 350 on a slightly uphill hole. He's not a big guy, maybe five eight or nine and 175 pounds. It was clearly demonstrated by this player you need to know impact, but also how to swing fast without coming over the top. It's almost like watching a secret move or skill. I also noticed his shaft lined up with his right forearm coming down into the ball with a good amount wrist cock and forearm rotation meaning his club face looked open at hip height. However he had this real late hit into the ball and predominantly played a draw. Kind of in the camp of Bradley Hughes teachings. I certainly agree with Mike that you need to know what impact feels like, but there's definitely other aspects of the swing you need to feel and train in order to smash it solidly. Unfortunately this guy's putting was not good. A real dream killer.

I grew up playing baseball and tennis and could hit anything. I wore out my shoulder hitting overheads and serving ho 30+ years, so I took up golf. I read everything I could find , took some lessons and bought custom fitted clubs. I worked myself down to a 6 but wound up taking two years off when I retired because my wife and I were doing the downsizing thing etc. I went back to playing in 2016 and it was just a train wreck, it was like I had never played before ! My dad would say "son just hit the ball" , well Mike just put it all into prospective. I got all tied up in swing thought and forgot about impact "hit the ball son". I did the one hand drill focused of keeping my right arm behind the shaft, started swinging smooth, hitting against the right side, and controlling the face. BOOOOOOM Mike is my hero !!!!

The brain is a taskmaster. What’s the task? Genius from Mike. The above is so important; absolutely critical for getting better, yet most people miss it completely and get caught up in the fashion show of hitting swing positions. This is why external focus is generally more effective than internal focus when trying to get better; if you define the task i.e. hitting the ball to a specific target, the body responds.

The beauty of living at this current time is that I can have access to amazing teachers like Mike. He reminds me for many reasons of two of my other favorite internet instructors Mike Ritland and Jordan Peterson. But i run into the same problem because of it. If i want dog training how do i find someone who will use Ritlands understanding n methods. How do i find a Psychologist like Peterson and if I need a golf instructor how do i find someone who isn't going to try to remove all the Malaska from my game. I cant for the life of me understand how he can only be considered top 100. I know that's a elite group and membership is what's important but it just doesn't seem to capture how good of a teacher he is.

Mike is a natural narrator though; he will lead his conversations very progressively and include detail as needed. This is an excellent video that all golfers could benefit from. When you have a healthy perspective of the big picture and how the "game" of golf fits into it, you can start to enjoy it more. I think the person interviewing Mike didn't really get the big picture that Mike was conveying very well in my opinion. I felt the interviewer was trying to tailor a program for himself to go on tour. Which is fine, but I felt like the interviewer wasn't really paying attention most of the time and he was quick to add to or interject his opinion for self-justification. All in all great video but would have been better with Mike talking more and the interviewer talking less. Just my opinion.

The best way is the way that works for you. I like to try different things only if they compliment my way of doing things, in this case i liked it, so i drilled a little bit " deliberately". Also liked the comment to keep the practice sessions short. I do 10-15 min max at home ,multiple times a day ,with a goal in mind of course. At the range i would suggest going back and forth between , putting , short game , and ball striking every 10-15 min to keep the focus need to do it , i'll say it again , "deliberately". Cheers , the comment was meant to be positive :-) all the best.

While working at a golf course recently I had a revelation watching golfers who have been out there golfing for decades every week: They still couldn't consistently hit the ball after all these years. It's just as Mike says, the golf industry does a lousy job teaching people how to square up a club. That should be the starting point. Let's be honest, most local golf pros are more interested in selling bad golfers the latest $800 driver to "improve their game". 🙄

22:09 - 23:12..... "Work on that new move until you groove it" - nonsense. "We need to change your muscle memory" - very funny. "Repetition is the law of learning" - only sometimes. The new brain science of the past 20 years has surpassed all previous knowledge by over 300 times and it is time to pay attention. The cerebellum, which controls all physical movement is a non conscious organ just like your heart and liver. It has one main function and that is total body safety. In regards to the golf swing we are talking balance, rhythm, and spine safety. When the cerebellum judges your motion as totally "safe" it says "two thumbs up" and then smooths out that instinctively safe motion which leads to precision and finesse. When the cerebellum judges the motion to be less than 100 percent "safe" it changes the motion with non-conscious postural adjustments made DURING THE SWING seeking out body safety. Precision and finesse are way on the back burner. Back to 22:09 - 23:12....All changes that evolve towards your personal instinctive body safe motion occur seamlessly and produce immediate measurable improvement because the cerebellum cooperates fully with any change that heads in the direction of instinctively safe motion. In contrast, the cerebellum also knows when you are simply replacing one non-instinctive unsafe move with another and it will NEVER cooperate. At best you will be able to puppeteer this new equally unsafe move on the range but it will never hold up under pressure. All new motion worth keeping NEVER requires a getting used to transition period because change worth making allows the body to shift intentions from safety to precision and finesse, and instant measurable improvement follows. Sooo....HEY COACH, if the "new move" does not click seamlessly; you are replacing one non-instinctive move with another and the body will never cooperate!! Move on. Mr. Malaska, I am enjoying your youtube contributions.
