I do enjoy these peeks into the Japanese culture since it's opaque to most of us because of the language barrier. Honestly, I'm even more interested in what Korea thinks of this adaptation of a Korean game by a Korean publisher since that's what's informed everything about it.

I watch a lot of korean streamers, mostly tekken players though; but there's one named Daddyking who's been playing a lot of DNF Duel and hosted tournaments of it too, so I think it's got a good number of peple playing.

DNF duels is stupidly fun game which is much expected given its kusoge status. Also it makes sense a lot of top players couldn't pick it up probably because they are busy training for EVO which is right around the corner.

I'm really enjoying it so far. Every character feels super viable and whacked out. Even grappler (who I play) is strong. I get in once and do 60% with a bnb and then throw you into a 50/50 on hard knockdown. Just evaporating health bars over here.

I hate when people call him weak. Dude probably takes the most true damage out of any character. He isn't interested in white health at all. A few confirms and the lifebar is red.

I haven't seen any ads outside of ASW's own Twitter. The marketing bonuses were also super odd. Why would you put bonuses for DFO (a PC exclusive) in physical preorders (console exclusive) while ignoring Steam preorders?

@@YhelloWish No. Its satisfactory for the most part. they can do more. some things dont make since with certain characters. Enchantress is on the struggle bus mid screen. I think launcher could use some work when not in a corner. there are somethings that feel like they should work but dont. Launch with 5m, 2s with berserker go into frenzy. Cant jump and land more than 2 hits without a dive. Berserker is fine but i dont see why that can't work. The opponent just falls out.

I feel like everyone is saying "If everyone is broken, no one is, and that's what makes it fun" for this game, but the two ways 95% of characters are broken are "Has huge buttons" and "Does a lot of damage" which I don't think is a particularly fun way to have the cast be Good video though, I think the tweets that are like "You can still make a game like this in Reiwa" are fuckin godlike

I think having super big buttons wouldn't be such a problem if folks could block in the air, but that's just me. Would definitely have more fun, xrd esque reactions. I think its odd that they sacrificed in order to stay true to the source in THAT way, mechanically odd to have such huge ass buttons and no way to block them in the air

@@mystymos3614 Yeah, me not liking the movement is probably more killer than me not liking the offense. It feels like there are basically 3 ways to get in, patiently, gamble on a roll, and gamble on a jump, and the second two have a chance of getting smacked accidentally anyway. It's a really strange design decision.

Dnf is not an airdasher, makes sense animeheads would stay away. The crazy kusoge of dnf comes from its skills/magic skills. Dont wanna say its like street fighter, although thinking of dnf as closer to SF helped me RPS better, but dnf is just dnf

I feel I'd enjoy this game a lot more if the input buffer for dashing and jumping was improved. ATM the movement just feels so stiff to me and that ruins my overall experience with the game. Far too often my dash or jump inputs while attempting combos just disappear! It's like I'm not in complete control of the character most of the time. Feels bad man!!

DNF really does make me feel both incredibly smart when a round goes my way and just dreadfully awful when I get clapped. I love it.

The worst is that a single mistake, whiff, or dropped combo can cost you the round depending who you are playing against (that's most of the cast). It's incredibly fun, but I can see people getting fed up with a few characters or certain skills.

I’m enjoying DNF. It definitely seems pretty ridiculous and but it’s a nice change of pace. I don’t think it will replace GBVS as my favorite FG, but I’m glad I got it to mess around with. My main complaint is that, while the designs are all cool, none of the characters really grab me and stand out as a must play.

Very interesting. I'm glad G01 is playing because he's one of my favorite players and he always makes tournaments fun to watch. I get why some people might not like the game because my initial impression was not great, but I ultimately came back to it and have been enjoying myself.

Think general consensus is this game is a kusoge. Their balance theory is if everyone(beside enchantress) is op then no ones op. Fun game an will play it here an their but i will not take it seriouslly

Finally a FG again that feels wild, that feels like stuff actually happens on the screen and you pressing a button has a real impact. I just don't hope they do what GBVS did, a great game that feels good and then constantly nerf everything. I really enjoy it, it's like the first game after picking BBCF up, where stuff just feels good and strong, even if it isn't strong.

At Least In South America, the GBVS players that can afford it definitely are giving it a chance, after all, we really have a need for that sweet rollback we so desperately want. Also, the game is just so fun to play when you accept that everyone is busted AF.

DNF is definitely fun but it's not as saucy as I was expecting it to be. Most characters not called Swift Master have like one or two really strong options and your gameplan pretty much revolves around that.

DNF is extremely fun. I'm using the hardest character in the game and losing a lot but I realize it's a long-term character that will get better as much investment I put into it. Enchantress 😉

I’ve only logged about 12 hours into the game so far. Kunoichi is the first character I tried, and already know she’s my main. I tried Striker too, and think she’s fun as well. The sounds of her attacks are satisfying, and thought it was fitting she’d be the character with the reverse beat. I love the game. I think there is enough complexity to keep me interested for awhile. The only downside for me so far is the music. I haven’t heard that many bangers when I compare it to OSTs from other fighting games I like. Also, there’s only a few tracks? Maybe I have to unlock the rest?

I like how every character is cheap in their own way, and some more than others. I grew up playing MvC2, so I'm fine with the game staying how it is for the most part. If you can play around Cable, Sentinel and Magneto, you should be okay.

I watched a chunk of the top 24 for TampaNeverSleeps' tournament for DNF Duel this weekend. What struck me very quickly is that these were the longest rounds I've ever personally seen in fighting games. Each round averaged around 50-60 seconds. On the other extreme, of course, is Strive where rounds routinely last 10-20 seconds. However, even games like Melty that has its own life-recovery mechanic with heat or Blazblue which was a lot of setplay tend to have much shorter rounds on average. Even from what I've seen of GBVS, which DNF was often compared to in beta, the rounds there were average length. I don't really know why this is or if it will continue as people learn more about the game. Low mobility and just trading and blocking normals seems to make things stalemate. And the damage just doesn't explode people even in very one-sided player matchups. It's just an observation of mine, and I'm wondering if anyone else out there, including the Japanese community, has noticed it. Edit: I'm exempting HnK from this since "long rounds" observation, since I've only ever watched it on Will It Kill, though I do find it interesting that one of the guys in the video specifically called it the next HnK.

I think there are definitely system mechanical reasons for longer rounds. You see a lot of conservative neutral when people are waiting to get their mp back (especially if exhausted), and downright scared neutral when the opponent has awakening on deck and being wrong means dying from 80%. Add long (in terms of duration) combos on top of that and it's not surprising to see rounds go long I think

Yes the combos and blockstrings are quite long. The amount of meaningful interactions per round is pretty low though, at least when compared to every other game you mentioned.

I think if damage remains high and movement stays stiff, this game is gonna feel like SF as far as pacing goes, just because pressing buttons feels so spooky when everyone else has half or full screen hit confirms into 50% into oki. Super fun, but I'll bet money that people will be mad salty about the balance in 6 weeks tops. I know it's early, but damage nerfs would be nice since damage already feels really high and it will only rise with optimization. Game is great to pick up and play with friends right now though.

i picked up the game yesterday, and played in teh first beta :D it is so much fun and feels kinda light :D cant stop comparing it to gg strive cause that's what we play right now mostly next to umvc and Kof 15. it just feels so stupid i love it :D i am hoping that the devs will unlock some more crazy things later on and make this game evolve into a more crazy combo potential beast. that is is teasing to be :D cant decide on a chracter yet ._. this is very suprising to me that you just look at the roster and think to yourself... what kind of crazy am i gonna press buttons on next ^^

My personal opinion on DNF as a casual viewer is that the attacks are too busy, cluttering the screen too much. It makes it difficult to understand what's happening. 😵 Some of their moves would've been supers/ultimates in other games like that Breaking Wheel-looking thing by the inquisitor or the Hitman's awakening skill with the clone (?) thing

I’m with Dora on Kunoichi, she’s one of the hardest characters I’ve played both in terms of execution and getting the ball rolling after landing a hit in neutral. I’ve played over 50 ranked matches (currently Gold 1) and not a single Kunoichi in sight other than me lol. Her corner combos are not only character specific but if you don’t delay the 5MS correctly, the rest of the combo will drop at the worst possible time. In neutral, the other characters just have much better buttons, she’s got the short/small stuff like Grappler and Striker. But yeah, this is a fun Kusoge and I’m not sure if I should take it seriously like I did with BB back in ‘09 or just keep grinding Strive. Decisions, decisions…

I've played 200+ matches as of yesterday, I've only fought a Kunoichi mirror ONCE. Seems we Kuno mains are a rare breed, lol! (I'm mostly playing her because I want at least one game where I can say "I main the ninja character" lol)

I like it, it's a good contrast to my main game blazblue. Grappler is fun. Every character has some BS to Trump another character so it kinda feels like battle of the busted, which is pretty dope in a way

how cant they be enjoying it? i see japanese players kicking my ass online I would say to make the game really fun is to learn the combos. just learn them, especially the ground extender moves (moves that can hit opponents whose lying on the floor) it so good to punish oppenent with these extended combos but you'll be pulling your hair out when someone does it to you

Might be because of the fact 8ing worked on this game but I get some serious Fate/UC and Tatsunoko vs Capcom vibes playing the game TvC is still my favorite traditional 2D fighter and I recently bought Fate UC a little while ago and I think the game is pretty jank and fun to play It also reminds me of KOF Maximum Impact Regulation A where could just go wild and do whatever you want for big damage. It has this mid 2000's early 2010 kinda feeling for me And I think the comparison to Hokuto no Ken is accurate since in high level play it's all about mostly Rei and Toki doing jank crazy kill combos

anyone saying grappler is low tier either doesn't play grappler, has not played a decent grappler or is a failed grappler. Everyone in this game is busted EVERYONE. Does some characters have 1 or 2 horrible matchups yes but everyone in this cast I feel has at least 1 bad matchup maybe except swift. (random rant cus i read like 2 chatters saying that in the vid and it triggered me)

I don't have the time to play DnF, I barely have enough time to play Capcom Collection let alone Melty Blood and others. fighting gamers are eating good, problem is there is too much on the plate!

I wish the brokenness of each character was spread out a little more evenly - it's hard to justify playing Launcher when other characters do the things she does, only better. But on the plus side, every character I've played has been very fun, so I'm sure I'll land on someone eventually. Some games, I only like one character, so if they suck, the whole game just feels terrible for me. I suspect I'll be playing this for a while.

DNF hits all of the buttons to make me hate the game, tbh. 1 button DPs that cover half the screen, massive damage, big buttons, clunky movement on half the cast making it near impossible to approach zoners, big hit boxes that can't be GCed, weak defensive options relative to offense... Oh, and supers that take way too long. They were cool the first few times, but goooooooood. Let me skip the animation or something. Yeah, I'm going back to Melty and UNIclr. At best, it'll sit in my library as an alternate game for when I'm tired of the grind.

i'd love to play DNF but the universal movement is a bit too underwhelming for me, and also the regional pricing is messed up so it's kinda expensive where i live

Because this games isn't at evo and it's so close to evo, nobody is touching it and it's DOA. That's that Sony marketing giving the community what they want them to want instead of what they want.

Im still trying to figure out what characters clicks for me as I play. All of the characters are unique in their own way, but I may just end up playing a bottom character if anything.

My dude I'm assuming your talking about Strive, so get over people not liking it for the direction it took rather than it being different. I'd suggest listening to the arguments being made by the fans rather than straw manning them, cause if you notice nobody is complaining about KOF15 being different, SF6 being different, or Melty being different. DNF duel is a legit fun game that allows for a lot of creative freedom without the need of a cancel (conversion), Strive does not were Xrd/AC did, thats why people were pissed. Piss off with the straw manning.

I think the game looks good but when I played it I didn't enjoy it that much. I don't know if it's just me but it feels weird and the characters don't fit with me at all. I played ghost blade and ranger but while like how they play I don't like playing them if that makes sense. I guess it was the movement and actions in the game that I didn't like that much.
