I am thrilled to share with you all my conversation with one of my friends and mentors, Dwight Gingrich. He has been doing an in-depth study on divorce and remarriage. So far he has looked at the historical Anabaptist perspective on the exception clause and some of Jesus' teachings on divorce and remarriage. He plans to finish up Jesus' teachings and move on to Paul next.

Thank you it is very interesting to listen to two former Mennonites/those of an Anabaptist background discuss this topic in honesty and with care. I pray more hear the nuance on this subject before we take general extremes for every scenario out there.

The key to me is the hardening of heart, sin. If there was a divorce there was hardening of heart. In a second marriage they may learn not to harden your heart to each other. We then don't ever harden our heart and don't divorce again. Follow Gods laws best we can. My Question is how King David made it to heaven [respectfully] adultery with of 7 wife's have 6 children and have concubines? Did each wife die in succession and no sex with concubines?

I hope that you are not teaching that Jesus never gave an exception to divorce for immorality, to keep the marriage clean, undefiled and holy. Jesus said that the gospel shall be preached unto all nations, and published likewise unto all nations, and then shall the end come. Are you saying that God, in His Divine Providence, would allow a faulty, inaccurate and untrustworthy gospel to be published around the world? You are casting doubt on the integrity of God and His Holy Word, which was the job of Satan, from the very beginning. "Man shall not live by bread alone," Jesus told Satan, "but by EVERY WORD that proceeds out of the mouth of God." "Except" is only one Word, but it is a Word from the Lord. If you cast doubt upon that, how can we trust any other portion of scripture? If one part is faulty, any part can be faulty. God is not a failure. Revelation 20:12 infers that we will be judged from "the books" that were opened (the sixty six books of the Holy Bible). Do you really have the audacity to claim that the Bible as published cannot be trusted? If so, you are certainly saying that God cannot be trusted.

What about mark 10:11-12 and all the other verses that talk about God judging adulterers?

Hi Susan... I am not entirely sure what you're asking about. Are you offering this as a counter to the exception clause in Matthew 19?

Brother Please let me help you with this. When dealing with this subject there's no need to go into some crazy story of two priests or something other than scriptures because that will just lead to more confusion. It's not your fault because if the blind lead the blind they will both stumble on the same stumbling block. Watch this Moses, Jesus and Paul all speak of divorce due to fornication committed by the wife which is to become one flesh with a man before she has become one flesh with her husband. Keep this in mind, Moses gave the law, which Jesus explained is for fornication committed by the wife, and Paul spoke to the Corinthians concerning fornication, so when speaking to the unmarried Paul explained how to avoid fornication in 1COR.7:1-9 and when he spoke to the Married Paul spoke of divorcing for the fornication in 1COR.7:10-15 When teaching God's word on how to live its best to stick to scriptures Law to Marry-Deut.22:13-21 Law to Divorce-Deut.24:1-4 Stick to those 2 laws to see Matt.19:9 and 1COR.7:10-15

Moses only dealt with fornication (in this case premarital fornication) in Deut 22:13+ and the woman was stoned vs. divorced. The word for fornication is not mentioned in Deut. 24:1-4, otherwise the woman would have been stoned. What Deut. 24:1 does say is: for the "nakedness" literally, not "uncleanness". Nakedness has never been translated as fornication nor is it a synonym. Jesus in my opinion implies that the man in Deut. 24:1 was hardhearted, thus, the woman did no sin. Jesus pretty much said that that man in Deut. 24:1 made the woman a victim of adultery and causing her to commit adultery if she should remarry.

@@warneachothereverydayheb.3406 Your opinion is your opinion which is leaning to your own understanding 👇 (Proverbs 3:5 KJV) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Fornication is becoming one flesh with a man before she has become one flesh with her husband. So in other words she is not pure at the time of marriage In order to understand Deut.24:1-4 first you have to understand the law for marriage Deut.22:13-21

@@warneachothereverydayheb.3406 Let me help you a little It's was against the law for a woman to bring forth a child without having a husband, we see this with Judah and Tamar. That is really what is being spoken about here (Exodus 22:18 KJV) Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. Now understand the key word here (Deuteronomy 22:13 KJV) If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her, The key word here is hate. So if you hate her this will determine if she dies. So if you love her and say nothing, even though she has committed fornication now we have a situation like Joseph and Mary and if she bares a child to a husband she married then her life is spared and the husband can divorce her for fornication. Here is what the Pharisees knew that the average person doesn't know, and this is what the Pharisees look to catch Jesus with. If a woman is pure at the time of marriage she can't be divorced. Watch this (Deuteronomy 22:19 KJV) And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days. (Deuteronomy 22:29 KJV) Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. Did you catch that these pure women can not be put away for any reason. If Deut.24:1-4 were something other than fornication then that would contradict Deut.22:19 and 29.

@@laidback1.0.1.2 Plus, we are not under the Mosaic Law to begin with
@laidback1.0.1.2

@@patrickhamilton7849 Sometimes people say things without really understanding what they are saying. 👇 "We are not under the law of Moses in Deuteronomy". Watch this👇 Moses gave the law of divorce in the old Testament for fornication, now let's look at the new Testament 👇 #1. Jesus explains Moses's law for fornication (Deut.24:1-4) in Matt.19:9. #2. Paul speaking to the Corinthians concerning fornication (1COR.7:1-40) when he gets to the married he speaks to them of their option to divorce for fornication in 1COR.7:10-15. If we are learned, we see Paul first speaking to the unmarried and how they can avoid fornication (1COR.7:1-9) by not even touching a woman. When we go on to 1COR.7:10-15 only the learned with understanding will see Paul is addressing the law of Moses (Deut.24:1-4) which was explained by Jesus (Matt.19:9) concerning fornication, but now Jesus is saying to the woman divorced, don't leave the husband (1COR.7:10-11) but if she does she should remain unmarried, or be reconciled back to her husband. If the woman is going to reconcile back to her husband the law shows us she must remain unmarried/undefiled (Deut.24:4) as the Lord commanded in 1COR.7:10-11, and we know this woman is divorced because only divorce can make a woman unmarried (Matt.19:9) This is Understanding!👇 1COR.7 is to 3 groups of people #1. The unmarried (1COR.7:1-9) #2. The married (1COR.7:10-24) #3. The virgins (1COR.7:25-40) never married ☆. The believer believes in the law and the words of Christ our lord (1COR.7:10-11) ☆. The unbeliever believes in the law only which was taught in the synagogues every Sabbath day 👇 (Acts 15:21 KJV) For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day. The believer if possible will try and obey the lord and the unbeliever who does not believe the Lord came, will go by the law and since the law permits divorce and remarriage for fornication, then if the unbeliever leaves no one will be held in bondage to them (1COR.7:15).
