a quick burst of LN2 won't turn a 98F meat bag into a popsicle, but if you were to say...fall in a tub of the stuff, yeah, it could do some major damage lol.
I worked for a major electronics manufacturing company in their R&D department. We tested integrated circuits by heating them up and cooling them down to extreme temperatures on both ends of the spectrum. While installing new tooling the area was curtained off using plastic sheets to prevent dust and debris from spreading through the lab.. We ran liquid nitrogen through the ceiling in this facility and without anyone knowing about it a leak developed. The nitrogen evaporated immediately but it displaced the oxygen in in the enclose area, a worker went into the area to begin work after a break and passed out. A second worker went in to aid the first and he passed out as well, but the second worker was seen by other employees nearby. The curtains were torn down and the second worker was revived. Unfortunately they didn't see the first worker in time. Do not work with liquid nitrogen in an enclosed space. Always be sure to have plenty of ventilation, and work with a partner just in case.
Some science for all you guys to understand this. Simple thermal dynamics. When something gets cooled, it's not because you add cold, it's because you remove heat. Heat travels faster then cold. When something colder then you hits you, your body transfers heat to that cold. The cold (liquid nitrogen) is heated to fast to make any damage. Unlike if you for example touch a hotplate. Then something hot is transfering heat to you, you are the slow cold. That's why touching hot metal does way more damage in a short time, then touch for example dry ice. The heat always got the advantage. That's why something small and hot can heat more then something small and cold can chill. If that was boiling water on the other hand... He would not feel good.
Someone needs to restudy the laws of thermodynamics. There's no such thing as "heat travels faster than cold", nope. The only reason this guy is okay is purely because of the Leidenfrost effect.

If heat didn't transfer, the liquid nitrogen would not evaporate. This is so simple. This is what makes the leidenfrost effect work. The liquid nitrogen is heated faster to it's gas form, then it cools the surface of the skin. Heat travels from skin, to air, to liquid nitrogen. If heat didn't travel at all, liquid nitrogen would come in direct contact with his skin, causing frostbite instantly. Because then Leidenfrost effect would not exist. So Tommy. You don't need to restudy thermal dynamics. You clearly never studied it at all, as you don't know the very foundation it is built on.

I THINK you are trying to say: an object with massive heat will transfer that heat into an object with less heat... faster than an object with less heat will absorb heat from a hotter object... which makes zero sense because it's just swapping the energy transfer around... the ONLY reason the liquid N2 isn't harming him, is the low energy required to evaporate the small amount of N2 is met by the air around him, and the high heat content of his face, forming a barrier of N2 gas insulating him from the LIQUID N2... it has nothing to do with Cold transferring slower than Hot... because there's no such thing as COLD... only a thing with less HEAT in it... if you were to throw boiling water at his face, AND HIS FACE WAS FROZEN SOLID... the frozen moisture on his face would form the same effect, keeping the boiling water from instantly melting his face... but yeah... hot water poured on his face would indeed hurt. a lot!

The reason you wear safety glasses is to protect you from the *unexpected*. Just counting on the Leidenfrost effect is not demonstrating good judgement NOR setting a good example for others. Throwing LN in your face *knowingly* allows you to close your eyes involuntarily. "In theory" if you got a snoot-full of LN unexpectedly you may inhale a blob that goes into your sinuses or lungs. Regardless -- you should be wearing proper protection when there's ANYTHING exploding. Those frozen latex shards can get in the eyes. You only have so many spare fingers, and only one spare eye; zero spares if you like to have binocular vision until you drop dead at 90.

+Jacob Newman it evaporates "immediately" but if it cools the air around you ebough to touch your skin for even a couple seconds it is going to hurt quite a lot. the amount of Nitrogeb used in the video is not that dangerous, but do not think that it is safe.
There was a recent case in the UK where a bar sold a drink that had liquid nitrogen in it. The customer drank it too fast and froze their stomach. Long and short of it, they don't have a stomach anymore and are in for a lifetime of pain, discomfort and liquid feeding. Pro tips: don't drink liquid nitrogen.

A true test of confidence would be to try this on your lower unit! :-) It does need to be in contact with the skin for a longer period of time to cause any damage. When you see the skin turn white, then damage is occurring to the upper layers.
The result can be burns throughout your esophagus down to your stomach. Gas also expands and so it can push on your internal organs and resulted in a collapse lung in one guy who tried drinking liquid nitrogen. ... This gas cushion can actually suspend the water droplet and cause it to skitter around the pan.
