I've had some breakthrough symptoms lately. Let's talk about it! I demonstrate getting moderately triggered and a tool I use to reduce the severity of my symptoms.
The program I went through is called Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and it's ten standardized sessions. This American Life did an episode on it, if you're interested in hearing more about it! www.thisameric...

Over the past weeks I wondered "Where's Qualia?" since deleting twitter means being out of the loop. Did not expect to be so moved and impressed and... to experience... what you are sharing here. Thank you for sharing. The difficulty of the process was palpable. May you take things in stride and find the ways that help with the pain. Again: thank you.

I’ve only sporadically reactivated. Twitter’s terrible! I definitely had a wobble there, but processing is less difficult than not.

Thank you so much for sharing this; it's very therapeutic for me to see. I have so much wariness towards therapeutic techniques (and a lot of other things), but this gives me some sorely needed perspective. I'm not fully there yet, but maybe I could be, or at least I know I can keep moving forward.

That’s great! Again, the therapy I was doing was called cognitive processing therapy and the sessions literally teach you how to do it and then end after 10 sessions. I didn’t have to be specific about anything for it to work. Cognitive behavioral therapy does some similar things, but lasts indefinitely. I absolutely also have some trepidation about therapists, but this therapy works well for me!

This is amazing and thank you for showing us how it works for you. I wish I'd had something like that when I was at my worst. Learning to manage somehow on your own is probably the most alienating process people who struggle experience.

Yeah! I did get this worksheet from an intensive program, so I did not do it entirely alone. It’s so easy to isolate yourself when you’re not doing so hot, though, for sure.

Thank for the vulnerability you shared. It means a lot to see someone be open and honest about it being a process, and one thats not done and over, but that gets more manageable over time and repetition. ☆

Thank you! I figured it wouldn't be like, a huge hit as a video, but that is exactly what I wanted to put out there. It ebbs and flows, and even though I've got some symptoms right now, I am nowhere NEAR where I was. Not even close. It does get better!

This video is an extremely brave and bold thing to have made, and I want to thank you for it. I’ve been working intentionally to heal and practice coping with a host of trauma vestiges for the last couple of years. Whenever I went looking for resources online I’d usually find people talking more abstractly about issues I relate to having, or they would offer advice that didn’t feel actionable. I don’t think I’ve ever found a video of someone actually doing structured self-work like this. I have a workbook for my own challenges, writing exercises, other such things, and it’s really gratifying to see someone else doing their work. I don’t know you, but I have a lot of compassion for you, and I really appreciated this video.

I appreciate it! I am not sure I feel brave since this is my life and what the heck else am I gonna do, you know? lol Like, I hope it's helpful or interesting. I haven't seen it elsewhere, and yeah, a lot of advice is definitely from the point of view of someone who is looking back and not from someone who is in it. And it's like... that will make sense once I am past the worst of it, but maybe not when you're in it. I'm not a doctor, of course, but I think there's maybe an idea that people who are currently suffering have nothing to offer other people who aren't doing so hot. And I don't know, I think the fact there is something that works for me and fairly quickly might be really useful! Thanks for watching!

I have OCD, and my cognitive behavioral therapy worksheets come in very handy when I start to slide back into obsessive rituals. Thank you for sharing your journey with us here. It can be scary to show the process that keeps us in a better place, sometimes.

Yeah! I don't think this is the most algorithm-friendly or cheerful content, but I think back to what I would have found helpful, and I think a non-saccharine version of recovery--where there are periods which are good and not-so-good--would have been something that might have been useful!

Definitely understand the big C anxiety. My mom's diagnosis when I was young, despite her recovery, left me with some 'ohsh*tohsh*tohsh*t' internal processing on the subject even when it's something easily treated.

I am sorry to hear about your mom and am glad she got better! Yeah, I have some associations with the word, so it definitely provokes a reaction (although this is definitely an irrational overreaction in this specific case)!
