Very Inspiring speech. We should work together to unleash the creativity of each individual Singaporean. With intelligence and compassion, we will never miss success in our journey of making our lives meaningful and fruitful. God blesses Singapore.

I can only see more suffering for our young school children. Its only going to get harder ! More competition for jobs, fr homes, fr education, for food even, for medical services, for everything! The worse thing is we are competing with millions of foreigners who are being brought here in the guise of better economic future. All i can see is more crime and unhappuness all around. Our own people are suffering !
@MingXiePhD
@MingXiePhD Месяц назад
@@jessiejames7492 In general, there are more solutions than problems if compassion comes first before intelligence. With the good leadership and the good spirit of being facilitators at all levels, we will have a brighter future. Singapore needs more solution creators than problem creators. Each individual, being Singaporean or foreigner, has the innate power of creating values and wealth to the society. If we positively channel all energies in Singapore into our common journey of creating values/wealth for all, there will be lesser chance for bad things to surface out.

Thank you PM Wong for reminding us the there are many versions of success! Consumerism/materialism is not confined to Asian cultures, it is highly prevalent in the West. Success is about purpose, finding your call, and making a difference.

Reprogramming the ethos of a society is not a trivial matter. Materialism is deeply engrained in the asian culture, not just in Singapore. To remove the materialistic drive overnight without appropriate motivating factors is not realistic. Without concurrent development of wisdom and the human spirit, there will be a void that is created. Meaningful change cannot happen through words alone. There needs to be concrete action that has real impact on both the individual and community at-large.

PM Wong, thank you for reaching out to all Singaporeans. I have a few words, I am 71 years of age and after retirement, I realize people in our age group spend quite a bit of time at the doctors for various ailments. I am not an exception and i want to say that i’ve been pleasantly surprised at the subsidies i’ve been given after each polyclinic visit, and for that, sir, i want to thank you. Also, I am grateful that we have clean drinking water, ample food supplies, that i feel safe in our tiny country and a whole bunch of other things that we all take for granted all the time. It must be a humongous task to run a country the way PAP did and continues to do so, so thank you to your predecessors and to you and your colleagues.

we live in a meritocratic country and a capitlistic world. compared to many other countries, singapore gets most of it right (~80-90+% right). ultimately. it's a balance. it's always easier to point fingers asking others; than to hunker down and bite the bullet and do the work. lucky u are not born in japan, or msia, or thailand, it's many times worse there.

Thank you PM Wong. It is an inspiring vision, that many will hope can be realised. There is some urgency toward this - while Singapore isn’t a country where many will actually starve to death or lack a roof over their heads, I think many aren’t actually living a life of dignity (which is the more fundamental question as opposed to definition of success)? We do need to get better with concrete improvements in costs of living (including actually addressing costs of raising a child as opposed to baby bonuses), how we treat foreign labourers and how we treat mature workers, further reducing the imbalance in employer vis a vis employee dynamic, having the wealthy commit more care of the lesser in society, etc. I have a suggestion to come up with a list of specific improvements that can be voted upon informally as the most pressing issues to address. Forward Singapore needs to result in visibly tangible outcomes, both short term and long term, so that we as Singapore can progress on the road to becoming a more inclusive country and a much better version of what we are currently. Only with a series of improvements in tough longstanding problems happening will there be more buy in toward this vision (and less scepticism) and a new societal compact on what success means. Thanks for your consideration if it’s picked up here.

The 5Cs is a rather outdated thing and this message comes a little late but I guess it’s better late than never. It will require a lot of political will to pull it through as it will require fundamental changes in many areas that will take years. It bears some similarities to the happiest countries in Scandinavia where all these attributes are instilled into their education at an early age and also in their culture. The Scandinavians pay very high taxes but they trust their government in putting the money into good use like free education, medical care, unemployment benefits and pensions - things that they don’t have to worry much about but are the major stressors for the majority of Singaporeans. This message is targeted at the young voters which I think is appropriate now irregardless of the election but these young voters also get their references from their parents who are also stressed out. I have lived overseas for several years and I find that Singapore lacks the vibrancy and energy in the air. It’s quite a soulless city. Is it the people or the environment? Why do people live in stress and fears everyday and complain all the time? I don’t want to be another complainer anymore and if PM Wong is serious about what he said, I want to join him in his journey and have more skin in the game.

Thank you for the message, PM. Indeed, let's reimagine everyone bringing a standard of excellence to their job - be it the food court cleaner who keeps tables hygienic for public use, the reception counter staff who greet us, the hospital patient transporter who skillfully ensures patient safety, the food rider who delivers meals, the estate cleaners who work long hours and pick up our trash, etc etc. Let's reimagine those receiving their service show respect and friendliness towards them. Let's teach our children to do the same, to be kind. How we treat people in the service industry will change how they work, too - with greater pride and dignity because what they do is important in the community. It is a perspective we all embrace together towards a differently successful Singapore.

Staying in so costly HDB house and yet many feel we are staying in just Public Housing. we should be feel happy to own an apartment. secondly work on Car ownership: people should feel that they are rich to buy nice car, but choose to not to do it. paying $150k for some entry level car don't make us feel rich.. only make us feel stupid.

Hello PM Wong. It’s a positive note you’ve left us Singaporeans who are eager to see how the government can move Singapore towards a holistic direction as outlined in your communication. I suggest that the government and all state organs and its companies review their KPIs and be transparent with it. That these KPIs (which I would imagine will be tied back with bonuses and incentives) will be truly holistic in line with your communicated transformation and not just purely economic ones. I envision my Singapore to care about our citizens happiness, healthy and progress. Where our citizens come first (and please - we are not xenophobic) especially in the ailing and competitive white collar job market. I envision a Singapore where there will be little or no one left hungry or without a roof over their head. And a country where progress means the citizen’s fulfilment in a country where they deem as the best place in the world to raise families and stay happy through to their golden years. My concerns will be about the cost structure of land/property, consumer goods especially necessities and where the true heart of policymaking for Singaporean lies. Please do your best for all Singaporeans and make brave decisions to safeguard Singaporeans first amidst our VUCA world. Thank you sir and all in the new cabinet. ❤

People are struggling to make ends meet and you are making it harder for us to live but yet telling us not to achieve so much. How we going to survive when you put us in an environment like that? Mr. Wong sir! I have idea on how to fight inflation and wealth gap at the same time, by applying staggered savings interest rate, bigger percentage for lower nominal savings, and lower the interest rate for individual with more nominal savings, and apply negative interest rate to the top 1% richest population this will have 3 beneficial prevalent effects: 1. encourage the poor to safe money hence lighten the social burden in long term 2. encourage the rich to spend/invest their money hence good for the economy 3. reduce circulating cash by sinking the money from individual on top of the pyramid, this will significantly suppress inflation and even strengthen our currency across the board which will be enjoyed by 99.9% of the population

Yes, a good to hear the PM address this. ❤ Aspiring 5Cs? Getting a BTO without having it become one like tengah is tough enough. Singaporeans want to be able to retire comfortably and not worry about sky rocketing rising cost and lowering of standards. The country is getting too expensive, crowded, dirty and divided all because the need for higher GDP at all costs! Rat infestations, housefiles, noise pollution, high number of foreign workers pushing our population density to the highest in the world. Singapore is becoming unliveable! Many are looking overseas to retire. Even having a million dollars for retirement means just having enough for the basics in sg. $$$$$$ everyday! When is this madness going to end? Singapore do not have natural reserves, but over the years, we have Temasek and GIC built up but our standard of living keep going down. It seems that the happiest people are the ministers who drawing insane amount of salary at the expense of everyone else while staying in good class bungalows at discounted prices! We need a smaller government and fewer ministers... smaller budget for such spending! Make Singapore affordable to live and retire in.... dont welcome so many wealthy people who will just push up cost of living further who do not provide good jobs to the locals! This country is already at it's breaking point. PM, please stop all these madness! 🙏 Make Singapore affordable and liveable so that having a decent job provides a decent living and we do not need to keep running the rat race our whole lives and have the goal posts keep shifting when we reach them.
