That's weird because, if dietary laws are also meant to preserve health, why is Peter given a vision in Acts showing that nothing is unclean and Peter can eat anything? Surely medecine was not much more advanced in the AD 30s?
Because we are not Under the Law, when Jesuschrist was on the CROSS, and when He die, and resurrected, He full fill the LAW, now we are under the new covenant, since we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us we have discernment to define which things are convenient, and which are NOT. 1 Corinthians 10:23-33
The Dark Ages were called that for a reason; a lot of knowledge was lost. They may have had a number of remedies that worked rather well that are lost to us now. Medicine is not the only thing, how certain animals are raised and what they can get into also makes a big difference. Also check out Mark 7:19.
