🌍 The Moon, a mysterious and fascinating star, is the Earth's only natural satellite. It has captivated mankind for millennia, inspiring myths, legends and science. This celestial object, visible in the night sky, plays a crucial role in our understanding of space and the universe. Its story begins some 4.5 billion years ago, shortly after the formation of the solar system. According to the giant impact theory, the Moon was formed when proto-Earth collided with a Mars-sized object called Theia. The debris resulting from this collision agglomerated to form the Moon.
The Moon influences many aspects of life on Earth, including the tides, which result from the gravitational attraction between the Earth and the Moon. This gravitational interaction also affects the Earth's rotation, causing a slow deceleration of our planet's rotation. In addition, the Moon stabilizes the Earth's axial tilt, contributing to a relatively stable climate, which is crucial to the development and continuity of life on Earth.
Lunar phases, which result from the relative positions of the Moon, Earth and Sun, also have a significant impact on human culture. Lunar calendars have been used by various civilizations to organize agricultural, religious and social life. Lunar and solar eclipses, though rare and spectacular, have always aroused fascination and curiosity, leading to numerous astronomical studies.
The Moon's surface is dotted with craters, mountains and vast plains known as "lunar seas". These seas, actually basins of solidified lava, are the result of ancient meteorite impacts and volcanic eruptions. The craters, meanwhile, bear witness to the many meteorite and asteroid impacts the Moon has undergone over the course of its history. Lunar mountains, such as the Montes Apenninus, offer a spectacular and unique landscape, unlike anything found on Earth.
Space missions, although primarily aimed at exploring the lunar surface, have also revealed valuable information about the Moon's internal structure. Seismometers installed during these missions have recorded "lunarquakes", indicating that the Moon has a crust, a mantle and perhaps even a small core. These data are helping scientists to better understand not only the Moon, but also the history and evolution of the Earth and other celestial bodies.
Recent discoveries suggest the presence of water in the form of ice in the Moon's polar regions. This discovery is particularly exciting as it opens up the possibility of future long-duration manned missions. Not only could the water be used for human consumption, but it could also be broken down into oxygen for respiration and hydrogen for fuel, making lunar missions more sustainable.
Lunar exploration continues to evolve, with ambitious projects such as the construction of permanent lunar bases. These bases could serve as starting points for more distant missions in the solar system, such as the exploration of Mars. What's more, the Moon could play a crucial role in future space economies, with resources such as helium-3, which could be used for nuclear fusion.

Consider the possibility that the moon existed prior to Earth.

That’s scientists used to think. Now, there’s amply proof the moon came from a collision with another planet 4.5 bya. 🤓

Something I do not understand. One piece of evidence of a Bolide Impact on Earth is the atmospheric dispersion of elements like Iridium, Ect.. With no geologic processes to speak of except impacts should not the surface of the Moon be littered with all kinds of rare and Heavy Elements.
