I got my husband a pipe over 20 years ago. He tried it only once and put it away. I couldn’t let it go to waste, and I picked it up myself. Now he has a pipe-smoking wife. It’s never bothered him, and he has never complained. Eventually, he came around and bought himself a General MacArthur cob pipe. Now, when I light up a bowl, he will often join me. It’s a fantastic way to wind down and to reconnect as a couple.
That’s wonderful! There’s so many new people (older people to the hobby) that are really just looking for ways to escape and wind down. Smoking a pipe is something you have to think about and it takes your mind off everything else. You have to sit and relax, and I make a point to put my phone down during that time
I love this video. My father destroyed his health, and thereby our family with his untimely death, with his irresolute cigarette and alcohol use. I don't have a family yet, but I hope it could someday look like yours. Bless y'all, my cousins in Christ.
As one of the rare/few female viewers of this channel (because my man watches), I have to say that I absolutely ADORED this video. More "Mizzuz" Pipe Cottage interviews in the future I hope!
My uncle who was a WWII hero smoked his pipes when I was a teenager in the 1980's and I loved to sit and watch he and my grandad work on fishing gear for the upcoming fishing trip in hopes Id get to go with two of the most wonderful Godly men Ive ever known. He lived to the age of 92 and I was honored to officiate his service and have even smoked a bowl in his honor at times. As your wonderful wife said, as long as youre not inhaling, you should have no problems and there are doctors who will attest to that opinion as well. As a fellow southerner (Arkansas) I do indeed appreciate the content and sharing of your videos Alan. Blessings and contemplative moments for many years to come sir.
Tony, I am a pipe smoking dentist from Arkansas. I practice in Jonesboro. I am one of those doctors you are speaking of who believe that pipe smoking poses little health risk. I made a video about it. It is on my channel. It is called Pipe smoking and oral health. But I think you would be even more interested in my most current video. It is about my Uncle Smokey who was a WWII hero, pipe smoker, and worked for Arkansas Power and Light his whole life, down in West Helena, AR. I am going to post the second part of that two part series on him later this evening. Nice to know you, and it was darn good to see the Hogs win this past Saturday!😁
My wife was instrumental in getting me into pipe smoking. We also have an atypical marriage in that we greatly enjoy each other’s company. We’re home bodies who carefully guard our quality time against frivolous activities outside of our home, although we are actively involved in our church and significant local interests. May God bless you and your family. In the near future I will be investigating your new social network.
So I just "came out" to my wife today that I am going to start pipe smoking, that I had already bought my first pipe and now tobacco is on my shopping list. I wasn't sure how she would react. She replied: "well we have a perfect vintage couch that would match perfectly with a pipe-smoking dad"... Phew, lucky me.
Solid conversation about understanding each other especially regarding the piping life. I'm not much of an aromatic guy, but I too attempt to be merciful regarding what I smoke around my wife. She also moves out of the wind when I'm smoking English blends or any cigar! I found a hazelnut pipe tobacco blend that I really like, so that's the best of both worlds. God bless you, brother!
Alex, you're doing such a super job with the website. You and Alan have got an exemplary marriage going for yourselves. Godspeed. I'm praying I find my way into a marriage with as much promise as y'all's marriage shows.
I am sure you are already well aware, I am also certain I am not the first to say this to you, but you sir are a blessed man! I used to manage a cigar shop for about 5 years and I could not begin to tell you how many of our male customers would tell us that their wives were unsupportive of their cigar/pipe hobby. Some of which actually went as far as to hide their hobby, to the best of their ability. I grew up seeing my great grandaddy smoking pipes and cigars, he had one or the other in his mouth almost at all times unless he was stuffing his face with my great grandmothers cooking. I, sadly, remain unmarried at 37 years of age, however I do have the blessing of fond memories of my great grandaddy and the added blessing of being able to smoke cigars with my mother, she probably smokes more cigars than I do, lol. God bless!
What a great discussion, and helpful to many. My wife sometimes enjoys joining me when I sit down for your videos. Two things... I feel rather old after this, your wife's dad is my age. 🙄. Second, she just gave us a reference to her favorite tobacco, and you DIDN'T tell us what it was... Please... 🤠 loved this time together. Bless you both.
That was a very pleasurable experience folks. Firstly Alan, it was a pleasure to meet your Lovely Wife and listen to her take on all things Pipe related. She is not only a very Lovely Lady, but a very intelligent one too. You sir are a very lucky Man. I wish you both, along with your young family, all the very best for the future and I hope Alex enjoys her first Pipe Show.
Quite simply one of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time. Pure gold to hear such a refreshing perspective on the topic of pipe smoking. Thank you so much for making this, brother! God bless you both!
I loved seeing this video. My wife is the one telling me to smoke in the house and I keep having to remind her we don’t own this house to smoke in it. It’s a rental. But she just loved seeing another woman who doesn’t mind pipe smoking at all. All of her friends find it odd she encourages me to smoke more. Wonderful video thank you for sharing!
My wife totally supports me with smoking a pipe. She doesn't like the amount of money that I spend on tobacco. It's definitely a two way street as long as I smoke non aromatics outside the house. Beautiful video!
Catching up on some videos and I thoroughly enjoyed this. I appreciate your wife coming on and the two of you being open about the topic. Fortunately my wife doesn't mind my pipe or cigar smoking and has even joined me or tried what I was smoking on occasion.
This is such an enjoyable glimpse into your lives, you two. I’m 56 years old and this is my first experience with a tobacco pipe. My wife and I were in Gatlinburg, TN. last week on vacation when I ran across the Gatlin-burlier in the Mountain Mall. After enjoying a really pleasant and informative schooling, if you will, by the Tobacconist behind the counter, I mentioned a few RU-vid videos to him that I had run across before coming into town that afternoon. Folks, when I mentioned RU-vid videos on pipe-smoking, the first thing out of this gentleman’s mouth was “..go check out The Pipe Cottage.” He mentioned two or three channels in all, but he really encourages people your direction, and he is superb! Ms. Alex’, I am very pleased to add that my wife shares in your sentiments about pipe-smoking lol. You both are so pleasant to sit and listen to, and this is SUCH a relaxing and inviting presentation. Keep up the good work! We’ll be watchin’ 😊
i love this, the fire, the relationship, the relaxation, the pipe, the dog, ive never smoked anything in my life and was quite anti cigerattes with alot of passion, but ive watched this and your channel regulary and I want to start this hobby to fit in with my outdoors lifestlye im trying to do more with. She is great and you are great.
Just wonderful!!!! It is such a joy to see you two together. Alex, thank you for providing you perspective to the pipe hobby and all of your hard work on the website/app. Allen, as always it is a gift to have you in my online world. Thank you, sir!!!
Enjoyed this chat! My wife has been supportive of this pipe hobby as well, and Im very thankful for that. Dr. H, I appreciate your media platforms and very much appreciate that you give credit where credit is due. To Mrs. H, it was great hearing from you and job well done. We appreciate you both for using your talents for our entertainment. Be well and God bless!
Lovely to hear about your wife's role behind the scenes. I can't relate of course as a female pipe smoker whose husband vapes but fellas, you can't go wrong with sutliff molto dolce. She might even let you smoke it inside. I really wanted to know if Alex ever smoked a pipe and if so, why on earth didn't she like it? 😂
Alan & Alex thank you both for taking your down time to make these videos. I genuinely loved this as someone who loves Cuban food, coffee, cigars, and automotive ingenuity. As a pipe smoker I often wonder what a Cuban version of pipe tobacco would be like.
Agreed. I found myself mentally tallying up the finances - wondering if I could afford to join in the fray as I have enjoyed several Cuban cigars & all but one were outstanding. Coffee too!
I thoroughly enjoyed this my friend!! I feel like my wife feels the same way… while she has no interest in it, she completed understands mine and fully supports it. We are blessed! Happy smokes!!
It was great to see both of you. Excellent choice of conversation. The bugs in the background made me think the you had come over to my house! God bless you and your wonderful family. John
What a refreshing conversation! My wife enjoys the aroma of Cult Blood Red Moon tobacco. I'm 70 and this is a new thing for me. I so appreciate that my wife is OK with it.
Excellent video. You are blessed to have a smart, beautiful wife. I appreciated her views and her explanation of the work she does for the pipe cottage
God gave you a good one there. This was a great video, thank you for posting this. I'm always curious as to what the significant others of pipe and cigar smokers think. Thanks for making this one. Wish I was going to Vegas, I would love to sit and share a pipe with you.
I've always been a cigar smoker, I know a few Cigar smokers but no one that smoked a pipe. It was something I always contemplated but never did it partly because of the social stigma of it being an old man's thing (even though I'm not young) and partly because I the UK now its a real rarity and partly because i knew nothing at all about it. I actually finally got into smoking a pipe when I casually mentioned it to my partner that I liked the idea of smoking a churchwarden, thinking it would be fun. A few months later at Christmas I had a tree gift from her it was a churchwarden pipe a box of filters some pipe cleaners and a selection of different Tobaccos. She not only support but thoroughly encourages it
This was great. I love watching you two together. Hope you have a great vacation in Vegas! Fellow South Carolinian here, living in Japan. Today I had me a bowl of Sillem's Black whule sitting on my tatami mats. It's ninety-five degrees out today.
I share your & Mutt-n-Chop videos, here in India to whom I am acquittance. I am getting Pipe & Tobacco from a shop which is established in 1828 in Calcutta, now Kolkata. But the scarcity of tobacco is a problem. I use Mac-Barren's, Amphora (non-aroma). I am 6 months old pipe-tobacco smoker.
Another stellar video. What a great match you two make. She's a delight. Wish more wives were as receptive of pipe smoking. It's been a struggle for me.
I love that as soon as you said "cigar", a cigar-shaped dog drifted into the frame; on the other hand, it's killing me that the fire pit doesn't have a stem on it that recedes in exaggerated diminishing perspective to Allen's mouth while you guys are having this conversation---the way the shot is composed, it'd work like a dream. God bless, and congratulations on your leap into Catholicism---I hope it's been treating you well. If you haven't already, you might want to try to catch a Latin mass before they get even harder to find at the end of the month. It's a tradition and ceremony of unspeakably profound beauty. Worth travelling for, if need be.
My fiance was a little apprehensive at first with the pipe-smoking hobby, but she's learned to enjoy the smell of it. I have a home studio and she's fine with me smoking in there since it's my own little haven away from the world. I told her I wanted to start and she was fine with it once I told her I didn't inhale. That was her biggest concern as well! She was always thinking 'cigarettes' when I said something about a tobacco pipe. Awesome to see! :)
You and your wife are a solid and blessed pair. am very lucky that O have a wife that not only tolerates my pipes and smoking. sometimes she will smoke a pipe or cigar with me.
Alan, your beloved wife, Alex, is not merely beautiful but highly intelligent, and clearly she deeply loves you! Likewise, you have publicly attested your great love for her. Thanks for introducing her to your audience.
Alan you lucky dawg you! Your wife is beautiful and lovely to hear her thoughts on your pipe smoking! She expressed her views clearly and in a relaxed manner! Alex comes across as a down-home easy to talk to lady that would make anyone feel comfortable talking to! I can see why you are in a great mood in your pipe talks, married to Alex! Wishing the best of life to the both of you! 🤔😁
You guys are a great couple. My wife and I have a few years on you guys, but that's exactly our pipe smoking story, I only took up the pips about 10 years ago, we have been married for 27yrs.
Wonderful video Allan and Alex, thank you so much for taking the time from your family to share this with all of us. Allan God has bless you greatly with such a wonderful wife and partner. Thank you again for sharing with us and giving us the opportunity to meet your wife Alex. May you enjoy the richest of Gods Blessing
As a kid I was never around anybody who smoked pipes but for whatever reason was always interested. Before joining the Navy, a family friend whose husband had passed gave me his pipes. That was in ‘88 and I’ve been a pipe smoker ever since. My son has that original set of pipes now and enjoys them quite a lot. And yes, tobacco with chocolate notes is always a big hit.
Tell your wife not to fret about about having 200 pipes...my wife puts up with my 800 plus meerschaum pipe collection...plus my briar pipes! Hope to see you at the Columbus show. Mr. Pete-------------> aging hippie
Sir you are blessed with a compassionate, intelligent & very informative wife, her words are well thought out & her own,she has many good points & advice, you 2 are well grounded & have a great relationship, keep on,keep'n on 🤙
Might have left this comment on another one of your videos and if so, my apologies - I’m just excited! Just bought a Peterson Donegal Rocky 85 for my first pipe. Right after watching your “Peterson Pipes and Why They Matter” video. Cheers brother. Love your stuff. Can’t wait to start this journey! But… alas. I have no tobacco yet. And there is nowhere around me that sells quality. And I can’t get it shipped due to state restrictions (MA, of course. Go figure). That being said, anyone have any advice on that aspect? PS - my wife is NOT on board with this new passion-fueled endeavor. So thanks for this video as it adds perspective for sure!
Hearing and seeing y'all and seeing how the Lord has blessed your family it ought to cause y'all to get down and praise God all the time for His blessings on y'all. I am happy for y'all. Carry on my brother.
22 just got into pipes. As a young father of 2 and have a wife, I don’t have many hobbies. Work at a steel mill, fix my vehicles and take care of family. That’s it so I got a pipe and it’s been awesome to Just relax for a short period and smoke. Love it so far just have trouble keeping the sucker lit
My wife is the same way my friend! My wife BUYS my pipes for me and actually picks out tobaccos for me to try! She just bought me a Bertram Washington D.C last week! I grew up with my wife though. When I was 17 I moved in with her and her parents. We been together since we were in high-school. I was 16 and she had just turned 18 two days before we started going out. I was 18 and she was almost 20 when we got married. She just turned 50 and I'm getting ready to turn 49! We are best friends. We were married 9 years before we had kids!
Great video! Allen you have a beautiful and intelligent young lady as you wife. Alex thank You for all that you have done and continue to do to bring the Pipe Cottage to the fore front. It's my favorite channel and I have been a viewer from the start. Please tell us what the chocolate/ hazelnut blend is, that you like the room note to. Keep up the great work and blessings sent to both of you and your family. 🙏🙏🙏
This video is awesome! My wife and I would love to sit around the firepit with a great Christian couple like y’all! I saw a more recent video where you said you are considering opening a pavilion on your property for pipe smokers. We would love to pay good money to hear you speak in person with your, “Mark Twain” accent! I would bet you a box of donuts you would add a sermon on a Bible topic… which would be greatly appreciated!
Smoked a Cohiba in Havana, Cuba. I don't remember the stick but I remember it was a robusto. The smell and memories being there at that moment will live on forever in my mind.
Thinking of your conversation about the memories with pipe smoking, My father died when I was 2, I can vaguely remember the Cherry smell of his pipe. Therefore the reason I started, kind of a connection with him.
That was very pleasant and calming. I found myself a minute or so in, rocking in my recliner. I was envisioning a pipe channel with oft new live streaming from similar to such a setting as that, and graced by additional Southern Genteelmen relaxedly puffing and pontificating. Might be interesting to also consider a lottery for a conjoining appearance on a monitor wherewith a different subscriber would sit in from their kake-cave, almost like being there. Your foreground fire added a nice touch of atmosphere.
I am so fortunate to live within an hour of JM Boswell and their pipes, tobacco, and experience is 2nd to none. If you haven't tried their PA Dutch Treat blend you're wrong.
I really enjoyed this... especially as my daughter has told me she prefers that I not smoke my pipes at her home in Wisconsin around my three granddaughters...very frustrating situation. I certainly benefited from your lovely wife's comments tonight. THANK YOU for including her! As a side note, I was captivated by your outdoor wooden rockers!... could you please tell us their manufacturer and where you bought them? Thanks, Alan!! Robert, J.D.
