The tent housed a man who thought more about his fellow Americans than he did himself. Not too many "important people" around today feel the same way.

The presentation of George Washington's tent by the museum is phenomenal and cannot be described. You have to see it to understand the full experience.

This is what the tent means to me. No President was needed and loved like Washington. He never left his troops, he suffered with them. He had nothing to gain and everything to lose. He lost his only stepson at Yorktown days after Corwallis' surrender. He singlehandedly turned the hearts of his own military at Brewster who were set to march to Philadelphia against the seated government. With the war successfully prosecuted, he could have ruled but eschewed power to return home. With the states in disarray, he leaves retirement to lead the Constitutional Convention. And when it came time to choose the first executive to lead the nation, they did not tell him, you should be the president. They told him you must be the president. So he left Mount Vernon and retirement again to serve. Thank you Mr. President.
