There are two PD's, distant and near. If you are using multifocal lenses, you definitely need both. These measurements are needed so when your lenses are cut, the optical centers of the lenses match the distance of your pupils in your eyes. If they are too far off, you may feel a pulling effect with your eyes.

Hi Dr. Rupa, Thanks for your detailed review of the measurement of the eye's refractive status. Typically, I will make these measurements at home, using my Test Lenses and Snellen at 20 feet, just to triple check them, since I do not necessary trust an "office measurement". (As a curious Electrical Engineer) My current refraction is +0.5 Diopters, and 20/20 both eyes. I check this at least once a month. I think your three kids will keep that approximate status, as long as you use Atropine to prevent their myopia entry.

Would you please explain a blonde fundus vs normal color? Are there eye conditions or concerns associated with a blonde fundus? Thank you so much.

What does it mean when the OD is -300 and OS -375 ? Did my eye doctor just forget to put the decimal ? How do I covert this to Power?
@irvzeitlin2972
@irvzeitlin2972 22 дня назад
my optomitrist at Costco listed OD -.25 using binocular PDs . The Cosyco Optical retail listed OD -2.50 using monocular PDs. Numbers varying by a power of 10. Which should I use? How can both be "correct"?

I have crazy vision. I was born cross-eyed. Had surgery as a child. Today Left is nearsighted. Right is farsighted. I have monocular vision. Tried bifocals but would rather have a bullet in the head. Took them back asap. Bifocals made me see octagons rotating (if memory is correct) clockwise. I also got the worst migraine headache within under a second ever. My brain HATES bifocals.

Each time you change your prescription glasses your eyes relax a little and if your vision will get a little worse. I made eyeglasses for over 45 years and it is my experience that if you change your prescription too often, it will decrease your vision ability. I think once a year is a bit too often. Axis on cylinder lenses has to do with meridians. Most prescriptions these days are written in minus cylinder form. The plus form is the old way and can make things more complicated and confusing. In the old days cylinders were ground on the front sides of lenses. Axis will be 90 degrees opposite in minus vs plus form. I've seen prescriptions with such high cylinder that looking through the lens makes everything look like a bar code. The axis on wea cylinders do not need to be as precise as higher ones. Now a word on implants. They are wonderful! They also come in different ranges, so some are correcting for distance more than for close-up vision. I had mine done for closer vision, near to intermediate, because most things in my world are closer to me. Because of this, I don't need glasses to read, but I do wear glasses for distance such as while driving. I fell I made the right choice for me and actually I can still see at distance well enough to drive without glasses. But I wear them because it makes things a little sharper at distance. I don't need to wear them much at all because I don't drive that much now. When I had cataracts, my vision was pretty bad especially in my right eye and could not drive at night. When I received my implants, it was a whole new world for me. Mine are just the regular implants and work great. The other fancy kinds have good points and bad points I was told. I am happy with what I have.

Hey @stevenw4549. Here is a video I have done on the topic of glasses worsening your vision - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-INF98F4Ynew.htmlsi=CWCCmHGCAdBDp8sD I really appreciate you sharing your history and experiences with us! Thanks so much for being here.

Thanks, I watched your video. But I was talking about those that wear glasses all the time and not for just reading. I've witnessed it happen over time. With each new prescription they have to be stronger and stronger. This happens regardless. But if they change prescriptions too often it accelerates the deterioration of their vision. One thing that is heart breaking is having to make glasses for babies. So sad and usually very strong glasses.@@DrRupaWong

@@stevenw4549 Wearing a strong minus lens while doing close-work, certainly increases myopia. This has been proven in primate studies. You're totally correct.
