What ever happened to the Jet Star Roller Coaster?

There was a Schwarzkopf Jet Star at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. It was a nifty ride with lot's of quick, tight turns. It was on top of the bumper car building and was replaced by the "Hurricane??". The rolling stock looked like small indy cars (kinda).
In 1991, the Jet Star was indeed relocated to Thrillville USA, in Turner, Oregon. It is the park's sole coaster, and was renamed "The Ripper". It has since been dismantled and it's whereabouts are unknown. Watch and help unlock the mystery.
Many of my friends grew up working at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and have great memories of the ride and the adventures we had running it.

Lived for this ride as a kid at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Loved the first hill and tight turn. Made you feel like Superman for getting through it. It's nice to put my eyes one more time on our beloved coaster.

My family used to vacation in Santa Cruz twice a year, and the JetStar was one of my first roller coaster rides. It was compact, but had a real kick to it. I was sad that they replaced it with the Hurricane, which was pale by comparison. It's so weird to see one of my favorite rides that used to sit atop the bumper car building on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk near the beach wind up sitting in what looks like a parking lot in the forest in Oregon. Thanks for this video and glimpse of an old favorite.

I have ridden this coaster more times than I can count. It was one of my favorites as a kid at the Boardwalk before being removed.

The Boardwalk shouldn't have gotten rid of this. It was much better than Hurricane! I haven't ridden their new spinning coaster, but it seems a little short and not as intense as this one was. Great memories! That first drop...

Yes, the JetStar was far better than the Hurricane! For a compact roller coaster, the JetStar had some real kick to it.

What a shame, that still is my second favorite ride at the Boardwalk. I would ride the Jet Star today over anything they have put in to replace it. Of course it was installed when I was 8, so I grew up with it. Can't believe they left it to the elements. Cool vid.

They had a Jet Star 3 at Playland in Vancouver, BC Canada. It's been long gone as well. Lots of memories on this ride! Thanks for posting this!

i remember just standing and watching people ride the JetStar in the 80s for hours every summer we went to SC beach boardwalk, and my parents would get us a wristband and sit on the beach while we ran around all day- i was too scared to ride it for many years, and just rode the cave train and automobiles a lot- thanks for sharing this vid!

Cave Train 😆, man, thats one of the rides I used to work on when I was a maintenance worker for the Seaside Company. That and the Loggers Revenge.

1981.Neighbor I grew up with and I took a ride late at nite before closing @ 11PM. The operator was tired and did not check to see if the seat belts were on. The one side of mine was jammed down in the seat, no time to try to pull it out. I rode the entire ride with only 2 fingers on each hand under the lip of each of the car's side body. Now that was a thrill,yeah?

Grew up riding this coaster. It was my favorite ride at the BW, other than the Giant Dipper. Its a shame no one knows what happened to it.

As the former manager of the park, I left in 2005, I too wondered about the Rippers where-abouts. To the best of my knowledge it is over seas, I can ask the Vettrus family if they'd like to share it's location with you.

all I can say when it comes to the Jet Star models are that Jet Star 2 is still running perfectly well over here in Utah, and that I do know there's at least one Jet Star 3 out there

I worked at the Boardwalk summer 91 but I was in Area 3 so never got to operate this ride. It was a fantastic coaster.

Which part of the Boardwalk is considered Area 3? Which rides are in Area 3, please? I grew up going to Santa Cruz and vacation and love the Boardwalk.

When at Santa Cruz earlier, I kept remembering seeing a coaster before Hurricane was added. On my first visit to the boardwalk back in 1991 (I was in 1st grade) I totally remember seeing a coaster that was clearly not Hurricane. Glad it was not just a mandella effect of remembering something that didn't exist. That following year on a family visit, I remember seeing and hearing about Hurricane being the new ride. Of course I was too small but the flashy lights on Hurricane at night stood out as we could see it from our motel room across the street.

Schwarzkopf don't even exist anymore. I honestly think a popular modern coaster brand (like mach or intamin) should buy the rights (if they're still even a copyrighted layout haha) of the Jet star layouts! (all 3, 1 2 and the jumpo jet) and re-issue them!! Otherwise, no more jet stars, cause people can't be bothered to keep fixing them cause of the old metal. maintenance costs and all that.

Yeah I know that but the one in the video that’s called the ripper is that Indiana beach called Tig’rr that’s the only one running that looks like that and has the sharp turns i’m not trying to be rude

@@oinkoink2055 Indianna beach’s is a different one that has always been at the park ripper started in Santa Cruz and went to Oregon once it shut down it got imported to Russia and is still operating to this day

When.I.saw.this.video.when.JetStar.used.to.be.part.of.SCBB.property.before.they.took.it.down.and.sold.it.to.somebody.someplace.else.and.re.named.it.to.The.Ripper.I.still.envision.that.it.was.still.sitting.on.the.top.deck.above.the.Bumper.Cars.ride.on.the.boardwalk
