Cardinals in the Roman Catholic Church are the most senior officials under the pope and are usually ordained bishops. They are appointed by the pope as members of the College of Cardinals. Cardinals attend meetings of the college and are available to the pope as needed. They are his chief counselors and contribute to governance of the Roman Catholic Church. They also have various responsibilities within their committees (called congregations). For example, one cardinal oversees all the bishops around the world, and another oversees Catholic education, and so on. Other cardinals function more as archbishops, overseers of archdioceses in a particular state or region. Cardinals also elect the pope when that position becomes vacant and have done so since 1059. Only 120 cardinals can vote in the papal selection.

Why do your call us the "Roman" Catholic church when is not the church's name and passes over the other 22 rites which form " the Catholic church"?.

Every diocesan bishop in the Catholic Church (as well as most other episcopal churches) has a group of senior clergy to advise him. They are normally called the Chapter and the individuals are called Canons. The Pope is bishop of Rome and his Chapter is called a College and his Canons are called Cardinals.

Some of them probably are. Lots of 'celibate' men in the RCC have had kids in the past. We have Internet these days so I guess it's not as easy for them to have mistresses. In my country, it's not weird to see priests going to prostitute streets and brothels or hearing about girls in uni and college having priest boyfriends

There are three levels for a Cardinal. 1.Cardinal Bishop.These are Cardinals who hold High Positions in the Roman Curia, Vatican and the Holy See.If,I am correct, there are about six Cardinal Bishop’s for argument sake. 2.Cardinal Priests.These are Archbishops of Cities you have in the World.There could be some Bishops as well. 3.Cardinal Deacons.If I am correct,these are Cardinals who also work in Rome,ie,Roman Curia,Etc.These Cardinals do not hold a High Position as the Cardinal Bishops do,if I am correct. I myself is a Honorary Cardinal.I say this because I have the full Cardinal’s Scarlet Dress,Etc.This is a Fancy Dress I bought. I never forget the day I went to a Fancy Dress Party,and People kissing my Ring,and addressing me as,Your Eminence . You never know,I could be Elected Pope at the next Conclave in Rome.I would take the Name of John.Pope John .

Apostolic tradition. Jesus' 12 Apostles were all male. Apostolic tradition holds that each ordination is the conference of the responsibility of 1 of those Apostles onto another man. The Catholic Church does not shun women though. Prioresses, Nuns, Sisters, they take many names. They are uniformly all women without exception and are known throughout the world as graceful, merciful, intelligent, charitable, and pure. While they may not be ordained to extend many of the sacraments they are still very important to the administration of the Church itself. You'll find more than a few of these women going about their duties in Vatican City. The capital of the Holy See, the center of the largest & oldest Christian denomination in history.

A catholic cannot discern the scriptures ( King James Bible) because he is not born again and he doesn't have the indwelling Holy Ghost which reveals the truth of Almighty God. The lost catholic hierarchy employ unbiblical priests to tell you what their ' bible' says along with the man invented catechism and apocryphal fairy stories. Matthew 12 : 30, Revelation 20 : 15 ( KJV).

No cardinals in the King James Bible. The vatican hates the King James Bible because of it's truth. Read Revelation chapters 17, 18 & 19 ( KJV ).The Lord Jesus Christ precisely identifies the catholic cult in chapter 17 and then fortells it's complete destruction in chapters 18-19. Heed the grave warning of the Lord Jesus Christ ( Revelation 18 : 4 ) and GET OUT. All you need is your King James Bible, faith in Christ and God 's amazing grace ( Ephesians 2 : 8-9 KJV )

@@joseroza1804 These are not only contrary to evidence, but also contrary to the nature of Rome. She has not Bound that only 12 cardinals should be retained, and therefore no such tradition exists. Democracy, if evil, would be inherently unGodly, but God Himself called Moses to command Israel to chooses among themselves leaders. That is democracy as sanctioned by God. Give me not platitudes, but evidence.
