I found online that nails grow faster for women during pregnancy. So maybe the Witch was a woman who became infected during early pregnancy, and thus the baby miscarried due to infection. Perhaps another reason as to why she looks depressed.

Lisidia XOX not 100% sure ab the stomach acid thing. the pregnant theory was just something i considered using her model. but the witch theory is interesting, however i've always thought the witch was some type of very rare mutation that happens under specific circumstances. the witch is more aware than normal zombies and also seems like she has some sense of consciousness(considering she cries to lure people to her). its such a shame the special zombies are hard to theorize about since we're given so little context from the games
i think the witch is actually crying to lure people, i think the l4d zombies have a "hunt and kill" instinct with the witch having it,basically they kill people to eat them later, because the witch is obviously smart enough to lure people and thus probably to know to eat stuff to survive, and they clearly ate the guy in the witchboat in the comic,so it makes sense. also the hunter has the HK instinct too as theyre literally called hunters and are incredibly tactical (watch the hunter profile video), then the smoker wich weakens and makes its prey closer with its tongue, i assume they eat the body or something later on like a really gorey and messed up weird spider

The witch exibits heavy fever-like symptoms, and the resulting terrible migranes stick with them after mutation. This would explain the sensitivity to light and noise, their constant crying, their preference for dark quiet places and why they're always covering their head as they walk about. it also explains why they all wander about half naked. being clothed with a high fever would likely cause them to start overheating, they claw most of their clothes off as a result of the discomfort. There's also a theory hunters go through a similar high fever process but rip their eyes out in reaction to their sensitivity to light... but since you mentioned how common infected hallucinate the way they do, i'm starting to wonder if that has a hand in it as well.
Here's a theory: what if the infection mutated the survivors to become more durable? We know for a fact that they're all infected. They're carriers. Maybe they mutated a little from it. It'd explain why they can take so much abuse and basically shake it off. They can take katana slashes, grenade launcher grenades, punches from tanks and chargers, get strangled by smokers, torn up by hunters, beaten to hell and back by commons, survive witches (w/o expert or realism), take a shotgun shell and only get knocked down (on expert, not even that on other dificulties), even take a chainsaw and only get irritated for the first couple seconds. Hell, they don't even show any visible injuries aside from blood on their clothes. Get hit by a car that was punched by a tank? Get up, use a medkit, good as new. Shotgun to the chest? Just a scratch. Mauled by a hunter? Just take some painkillers. Seriously, these guys are superhuman or something. I know most of this is gameplay stuff, but still.
This would put the infection in the same realm of the natural virus from the Dead Island series. The resistant survivors are incredibly durable, taking bullets and huge hits. Granted, a good many of the enemies are basically the same, but there is the added affects of the Fury abilities. Comparing these two viruses, it makes sense.
Colin Hutchison realism is probably the canon one cause it’s real. In realism the survivors are more like normal humans. A literal quarter of their health gets taken from a bullet, zombies do lots of damage and more.
I reckon the witches claws arent claws, but really just sharpened bones. Since they no longer feel pain, since i complety agree with the theory of mental illness, That already severly effects the brain it simply acted as a step ladder (or DNA ladder) to higher levels of aggression and her relentless attitude/mutation. The claws might just be her own final punishment after mutating like this, I believe in the witches waking moments as she began to mutate, she believed "You want me a monster, Ill be a monster"

I don't think it's the fact they they see anything in it, I believe that one, the bile is just suppose to act as a homing beacon for the other infected, they relate the smell of the bile as one of their own and because it's in such high amount, they see it as one of their own kind telling them to focus on that specific thing, some insects do this as well so I don't find it impossible to believe for the infected to go by this principle. The pipe bomb emits a beeps that most likely rings in the ears of the infected much more than a normal humans, it's obvious that infected hate noise, which is one of the reasons they go after human or to places with loud noise, they can hear the sound from far away and they want it to stop so to make it stop, they try to destroy whatever is emitting the noise. this principle is the same for the pipe bomb, the pipe bomb is easier to focus on and more irritating to an infected than a moving human will be, so they prioritize killing what's irritating them more first, i.e. the pipe bomb.
Another theory is that lots of people got the virus before the outbreak and only some people didn't, that explains why we see (have experience) with outer survivors like the gun store owner, Virgil, etc. But as we saw in the comics that bill, zoey, francise, and lois has been bit but didnt turn

I had a theory a ways back that the witches were women who were pregnant when they were infected. This would explain why there's only Female witches, why there's so few of them, possibly why they follow certain cravings, (the mass of witches at the sugar mill) and could even tie into why they are severely crying all the time. (Obviously the baby died, possibly even absorbed into their own body as part of the infection, and on some level they're still aware of that loss.) It also presents a different idea for the specific bride witch. It was a shotgun wedding, thrown together quickly because the would-be groom knocked her up.

for the person that says it doesnt explain why she kills anything that moves, this theory goes into the subject of a miscarriage (potentially while the witch was still human) which if she was human could cause postpartum depression and the witch while human couldve blamed anything in the world for taking her child, so maybe when reanimated she remembers only the extreme sadness and the want for revenge for whatever did this to her

Hey, about the witch's claws - I just remembered that nails actually push dead cells out of the body. As the infection spreads its possible that it triggers an auto-immune response, so that the nails go into horrid overgrowth. Since body tissue suffers some form of necrosis, this reaction could act as an extreme fail-safe, pushing out so much dead tissue through the nails that they overgrow into claws. Witch usually does look like suffering from anorexia (before she became infected as evidenced by apparently undernourished body and depressed mood). Anorexia can be linked to obsession with one's good looks. Girls who do want to look fancy quite often have have long and polished nails. Since every mutation in this genre leads to exacerbated body state, it may be concurred that this particular combination simply caused her hands to be mutated into this claw-like state. There is also an opinion running that witch is one of few infected, who are either still fully or at least partially aware of their condition and she is crying because of what happened to her. Subsequent aggression towards survivors may be explained as a sort of twisted revenge-rage (Why I, prettiest of girls got infected while these ugly weirdos are healthy? It's NOT FAIR!!!)

Actually, It would not be out of the possibility that the tank's bones also increased in size and strength. However, the reason why he would be walking with his knucks as supports is that HIS MUSCLES WOULD STILL BE HEAVY AS SHIT, even with increased bone size and strength.
Bones are already extremely strong, stronger than steel. You can sit something like 9 tons on a square inch of bone before it breaks so I'm not sure if it would be crushed, but the body is a shit ton bigger so I imagine the skeleton would need to fit

A theory I had was that the special infected are just normal zombies but there are different stages as one gets infected. Maybe when someone gets infected they start off as a common infected, then maybe a hunter or jockey, then becoming a boomer, and then a spitter, then a charger, and then ultimately becoming a tank or a witch.

Here's another theory, In Payday/Payday 2 There is a mission named "No Mercy" Sound familiar? Anyway And that game you need to steal blood samples from a patient with, yes the Green Flu. Once you do this and go in the elevator, Bain (Your partner in crime) will say "Your left for dead" as the military bomb the hospital. You make it out in the secret ending but inhale the Green Flu which means that a gang that was trying to get blood samples, also got the flu which could have started it.
Since they patched it as a bug pretty early on in the first game, I'm fairly certain it's a stretch to consider it canon. But how the witches would originally attack anything that provoked it, including other special infected if you could forced one to damage it seemed to speak that they're almost the most clear-headed of the infected. Following the line of thinking that the infection is more like 28 Days Later and it's more of an intense psychosis, the witches could very well be trapped on the very fine line between fully succumbing and trying to keep it together. Heightened emotional states and chemical imbalances could keep them in a constant cloud of delusional paranoia, lashing out at anything that draws its head back into reality where it perceives every living thing around it as a grotesque nightmare. To them, they're still an idea of themselves trying to claw out of their own heads. And a step further but maybe a little farfetched is that they could be cognizantly aware that they're infected but so far gone into their dementia that they lack any and all restraint or control of themselves when an emotional response is elicited. That's why they cry and wail, like they're having moments of clarity with agonizing despair or hatred for themselves.

i would imagine, theres some people who make videos about valve games explaining how stuff works, like theres a video on the headcrab from half life, and it is terrifying how in detail it can get. valve games do get some things wrong, but get an unreal amount correct. unless it has to do with guns, valve cant figure out weapons lol
The map in the beginning suggests that the military did use a nuclear weapon in New York, presumably to stop it from spreading. The fireball is the red dot on the middle and the rings are the levels of damage.

The lighter rings around it show that while the infection is spreading, it still is not at the level of the Northeast because it is just now hitting the areas.

The witch's claws could be finger bones that probably grown out of the fingers, that or the fingers decomposed and the bones are showing. And I like to think that the infection is the Back Plague returning, and that it has mutated.

scott funny, I grew up in Illinois, and there was usually one a year. Hell, I remember one year, I think it was 2007, 2008 maybe, we had an F4 and an F5 form on opposite ends of the city and meet near the middle, and it WRECKED the place. Bunch of roofs ripped up, trees through houses, damn near ever powerline in the path knocked, shit was wild. My neighborhood was lucky, and we only got some debris blowing through damaging the place, only 1 house got full on wrecked by there too.
