The Counter-Strike weapons were previously available to German players as a bonus compensation for the censorship. Before 2020, you could still use them in any version when playing with German players. They were never meant to be placeholders.
@@erasedxbl8281 german versions received those special weapons because the gore of l4d2 was turned off by default in l4d2, like no guts flying everywhere or brain showing, stuff like that. i'm pretty sure it was for germany and australia
the simple tone heard is a ui sound for the menu, you can faintly hear it whenever you start a vote in a multiplayer session. gift drop and gift pickup were sounds used in the 2011 christmas event where special infected in versus would drop gifts.
Some notes since i really love l4d: 1. Left 4 Dead Zero isnt a leak, it was a project aimed at restoring old L4D stuff (mostly the old builds from 2006 to 2008. You showed stuff that was in the mega files, uploaded after the project was cancelled. 2. I can see you played a bit of the mod L4D2 Beta Pack, aimed at remaking the e3 2009 demo, its still getting updated but mostly its 100% the same as the e3 demo. Tho im confused at the l4d2 pistol icons and the ak 47 showing up there, as that was changed in the pack. Also the Charger didnt only have animations changes, he worked completetly different. 3. Weapons animations are just the l4d1 animations, nothing interesting. 4. Survivors have more cut voice lines than you showed, like Ellis doesnt have only 1 cut voice line. 5. that first sound you showed is in the game, when someone starts a votation. the other ones are pretty much cs left over sounds, since l4d was originally a cs:s mod. The other one is a achievement sound. 6. Yes, melee weapons were supposted to break, but were changed very early, as the first time l4d2 was shown, they didnt break. 7. no mercy pilot ending voice lines were cut since it made players feel bad even after winning the campaign. 8. first whitaker line is in the game, the other ones are a mix of if you and your team is dying, happens sometimes or actually cut voice lines. 9. the survivors e3 skins are pretty close, but they are not 100% accurate as the person who give us those skins (yes i do help with the beta pack) did some unnecesary changes/mistakes, that will be changed in a future patch. 10. you can see whitaker if you use noclip after he starts to get ready to clean the way. 11. australian bat is a thing since game got censored there just like german.
Actually it’s actually unknown what the AK’s beta animations were or more so it didn’t have any animations when the new L4D2 animations used the L4D1 weapon animations as placeholders, the AK actually had a similar animation to the AK 47 from CSS in which it did have no moving animations and was just static whenever you did move around with the weapon. It was because the AK 47 during the best stage of L4D2 didn’t have any finished animations yet so they created a simple CSS AK placeholder animations for the weapon until the final AK animations were done
Also the L4D1 animations for the AK in the beta pack is just like a “what if” thing cause Valve never did use the L4D1 M16 animations for the weapon, it had that CSS styled placeholder animation instead mentioned above ☝️
Good points, I have 3 more to add as well: 2:18 - These are not different textures, they're just different photoshop layers. The grenade launcher doesn't have any unused skin. 7:23 - Tutorial_standards is actually shipped with the game's authoring tools, and serves to show people how to design different aspects of a campaign. The Dead Air outro card also seems to be the default that is used for maps that don't have one assigned. 13:22 - Gift_drop and Gift_pickup play for the literal gift boxes dropped by Special Infected throughout December every year, for the VALVE GIFT GRAB achievement.
not only that, it originally started out as DLC before being expanded to a full sequel so it extra makes sense that L4D1 stuff is present. he’d shit his pants if he saw how much GTA3 stuff exists in Vice City, San Andreas, Manhunt, etc 😂
The Pipe Bomb was originally supposed to be just a normal m26 grenade that you'll just throw to the zombies during the l4d beta stage, so i guess that explains why there's a grenade icon
i swear i remember hearing the screamer was cut from l4d1 because valve found it was too confusing for newer players, whereas other infected testers understood pretty quick. the screamer's voicelines were repurposed to the hunter
The Screamer was cut from both Left 4 Dead 1 & 2. The Screamer got further into development in L4D2 as Nick has a voiceline I've heard saying "We got a Screamer". Very similar to the "We got a Boomer" line he says. I scoured the interwebs looking for the voiceline again for this video, but I couldn't find it. I heard it years ago, although I'm not sure if it was a real voiceline or a mod made by someone.
@@HackingIsFreedom I think it was likely a mod, likely either clip mashing or a very good voice impression. Screamer was only developed in the first game before getting cut and having most if not all elements of his design repurposed elsewhere. Spiritually, the screamer still lives on
The screamer was cut because his main mechanic was to run away from the survivors and then scream, thus attracting hordes. He was later repurposed as the boomer
@@HackingIsFreedom no???? screamer was a special infected cut VERY EARLY into l4d1, you cant even see him in old l4d1 footage, he was neve supposted to be in l4d2, you prob heard a ai voice line
@Shadow-jm9ei This was way before AI voicing lol. The clip I saw was on RU-vid, not sure where it may have been before that. It was about a 26 - 32 second clip.
I'm absolutely shocked that you didn't recognize these tones : 13:23 This is used when a player calles a vote (eg : votekick, changelevel... ) 13:27 gift_drop and gift_pickup play when a player kills a Special Infected during 11th of December of every year, a gift is dropped and the player can collect three of them for the achievement called "Valve Gift Grab 2011 - L4D2", this isn't unique to Left 4 Dead 2 it is also a thing in CS Source and Left 4 Dead 1 13:48 This is a sound originally from Left 4 Dead 1 but it is also in L4D2 it plays right after closing the saferoom in the Left 4 Dead 1 Campaigns 14:08 This also plays when a player receives fall damage (First sound only) 14:46 I think you mispronounced "Cold Stream" but yeah that intro theme sounds very similar to the Death Toll campaign intro theme A lot of the unused voicelines you showed are restored after the Last Stand update so this is kinda outdated
A neat detail I'm sure not a lot of people have noticed, both with the cut bridge dialogue you played and what we got in the final version of the game, is how the chopper pilot inquires about seeing "flashes" on the west bank, referring to the muzzle flash of the survivors weapons, and the reason this dialogue is interesting is because it sheds light on the fact that The Parish was originally supposed to take place at night, but was later changed to be a day time campaign. This detail also makes other parts of The Parish make more sense, like Ellis' comment hoping to not see ghosts in the cemetery. Also that tone sound you're unsure of plays when someone prompts a vote, that being to change the campaign, difficulty, or to kick someone.
Also: "Sacrifice yourselves if you have to, the cola is THAT important!" "Ah hell, I regret this agreement already. What a waste of guns..." "Just a six-pack? I'll blow through that in a day... Ah hell.. Deal's a deal... Here you go." "Cola and nuts is a weakness of mine. Though I do not love it so much as I'd be fool enough dying attempting to procure it."
Remember that L4D2 didn't start from scratch. It was an evolution of L4D1. Some things were added, some things were deleted, but some stuff may be left over. Same with L4D1, it was originally Counter Strike Source, so some counter strike assets were likely used as placeholder during development.
The unused early hud icons like the Gravestone and Zombie headshot icons where actually once part of a scrapped kill announcement system that similar to how it appears in both the Counter Strike Source and Gmod, there is actually footage of it working too on RU-vid somewhere
@@FreneticPotato True, the kill announcement system works perfectly in CSS and Gmod but definitely not in a game such as L4D. Also plus it would’ve been really annoying and so unnecessary to have it anyways if it did make it into the final game cause there’s no scoring system at all in leftover dead anyways so it was pretty much pointless 😂
Also btw Hacking you actually got the unused Midnight Riders tour bus ending right but for the wrong campaign XD It was actually a unused ending idea for a early version of Dark Carnival where there was supposed to a control room section in the ending concert area with a Hippie trapped inside and basically it’s just a like the Church Guy from Death Toll but instead the Survivors have to do something for him first in the unused ending and the Hippie would actually help the survivors get to a scrapped garage part where the Midnight Riders tour bus would be. I’m kinda guessing they cut this ending out when Valve came up with Swamp Fever and hence they had to change up the ending to the Concert and Helicopter idea. The “Stealing the Midnight Riders tour bus” was actually the second ending concept they made for Dark Carnival which in first concept idea for a ending Valve actually had the idea for Train escape ending for the campaign before the Tour bus and Helicopter ending ideas, Valve scrapped it because it didn’t really make much sense for a Train to be right next to a Carnival
13:19 Some of these sounds are from Team Fortress 2 like the gifts and Pickup_misc42 possibly from Mann Vs Machine or that one moon map on tf2 with the robots.
Finally another youtuber that goes in depth about unused and scrapped content any kind of games. Can't wait to see what games you will cover. (looking at Super Mario 64 would be fantastic)
In the Russian translation of the btw, these Whitaker phrases are voiced and phrases like I won’t help you, etc. are used. phrases about tanks are also used in the remix version of the dark carnival; phrases about tanks from Bill can also be heard, but in the update trailer the last frontier
Theres actually a zombie called "Leaker" in the code that you can summon in game He's basically have a boomer texture but he have more health and explode when he comes your near. When he explodes he leaves a little fire behind that gives some much damage
Sadly the "Leaker" has never existed in the game. It was pretty much a community made legend. Here's a statement by one of Left 4 Dead's developers. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UbOMa_cPbZ0.htmlsi=6HPRUmWq_8tOlY_I
i think the riot shield is the only melee that has durability system and can be use to protect from charger's charge attack and tank's fist or throwing rocks
They cut the screamer due to people finding it too annoying during early play tests. Rightfully so. It’s rather annoying in Dying Light as well & quite useless for those who know how to handle themselves.
Honestly i love those older animations on the guns way better seems like there's actually kick to the guns rather than the final design guns i like seeing the sway to them edit: i love the auto shotgun pickups
during a xbox campaign run on dark carnival 1, in the motel pool, my friend discovered the combat knife, from what I remember I don't believe there was a German player, however it was a while agom
13:23 vote 13:28 like in tf2 gift drops from infected 13:38 name like achievement 13:49 sounds like one of the pitch sounds in the safe house end music
4:25 it's not laziness, it's a common pratice for developers to test mechanics and code through placeholders, when making a sequel they use the previous game assets until the art department makes the final art.
@nothihn1180 I meant laziness as in most of the time the previous games' leftovers are usually cleaned up before release. The sheer amount of leftovers seems lazy, as not all games have leftovers from their previous titles.
Yes they are. With him saying how many hours he has I'm actually surprised at how little he didn't know. I've got just under 1000 and could point out probably 30% of this videos being flawed
Remember what I said in the beginning of the video, I'm a console player. None of the "gift" sounds appear there, so I had no idea what they were for lol.
Honestly props to this video dude. Showed some stuff not a lot of youtuber's have covered. Its not just beta facts everyone knows at this point. Hats off to showing some unique stuff!
I actually have the original lfd1+2 demos on my old Xbox 360 and those have tons of differences, I don’t think it was E3 time as it is a lot more towards lfd2 rather than still using lfd1 animations Very cool to explore it, I think its levels 1+2 of the parish and that’s it
the only differences were some missing weapons in L4D2. the no mercy campaign demo was the same as release and the Parish demo is the same (minus the missing weapons)
The "simple tone" isnt even unused its a versus sound used when a votes called, gift drops are used in december when gifts drop from si in versus for an achievement, and the pickup42 is the sound that plays when you make it to the saferoom, all of these are dead giveaways that you arent exactly familiar with l4d2, also the only voiceline from whitaker thats cut is the 2nd one shown, ALSO also, the shot border texture is just the zoomed in vanilla "dont shoot teammates!" popup
im not really sure where you got all of these textures from, i mod l4d2 a lot and have gone through the files a lot and havent seen coach and ellis' leftovers, are they from elsewhere or from the xbox physical disc?
the 'simple tone' at 13:22 is for when a vote is started, the gift sound effects are for versus mode (i think only player SI) during Christmas special infected will drop gifts, misc42 is the sound effect for earning an achievement in l4d1 afaik there just isnt a version of that for 2 so maybe they tested it before just giving up or something lol, 'Cold Storage'? there is no campaign with that name.. my only search brings up a custom campaign which shouldnt be in this video if thats the case, ive never seen the map overviews from the end of the video either though i could have just never actually seen where they are in the files.
It's an unused intro to the Cold Stream campaign. I said "Cold Storage" in the video by mistake. I must've been thinking of Halo 3's map while I said that 🤣🤣
@@HackingIsFreedom first, where you did get these for footage? Then, as suggested in these comment section, there's no clear evidence on how there were looking during development.
@xDShot9000 There's a lot of evidence of what they looked like. There were a lot of videos and pictures of the beta. The footage itself is from an E3 recreation mod. All in the description.
Gift Drop and Gift Pickup are Day of Defeat Source left overs. Day of Defeat Source had the "gift grab" event for Christmas. It gave you an achievement for grabbing 3 gifts.
@@sunflowertheogdepends on the difficulty honestly, in normal versus w/ laser upgrade it’s definitely the most popular pick. in realism however the most commonly used t2 weapon is the shotgun since the snipers dont one shot commons anymore (which is the main reason why people use them in the first place)
Great video and much needed entertainment , I would like to ask what you mean about the csgo weapons being glitchy on console, as they not in the Xbox version Also fun note those old weapon animations are the exact same animations from l4d1 For their respective weapons
I play with mods usually, so they spawn everywhere. Even when I'm not using my own, I usually find people in survival modding and the weapons are spawned somewhere in a pile.
