What F1 Drivers think of Female Drivers!

The lack of diversity on the Formula One grid is pretty obvious to see. 3 of the 20 drivers are Asain, 1 is Caribbean, 1 is Mexican, and the rest are of white European. The ethnic diversity of the grid is poor, but what is more shocking is that 0 of the 20 drivers on the grid is female. It is beyond belief that of the 20 best drivers in the world, none of them are female. That just can’t be correct. So what is stopping them from getting into the sport, what are we doing to make it more accessible for them, and what does the wider F1 community think of female drivers?

If women is as good as the men, why not? I would like to see women in F1 but they need to be equally competitive with the other drivers regardless of gender or race. Don't just put them in an F1 seat for the sake of diversity, put them on because they deserve it and got the merits for it.

David Coulthard has the right idea, AND it needs to be picked up and embraced at ALL levels of motorsport so that from children carting, THROUGH to F1 and other series such as WEC WRC ELMS SUPERGT and others, allow competition that is not segregated: therefore any gender can race in any series should be unbroken from the bottom to the top, in this way allowing the best of the best along all of these progressive steps rise to the top regardless of gender, or race. Then and ONLY then will the whole SYSTEM be fair in allowing fair competition and support to the best drivers throughout their careers leading them to whichever type and level of competition they can achieve.

i personally think the winner of the W series should be given a drive in F3 or even F2, but do i think they would be competitive in F1? no because i think they would struggle with physicality of driving an F1 car. Wrong about the physical side mate. At the Bathurst 1000 in Australia, the Women have done all right doing the 6 hours and 1000 Kms. Problem was they were not in cars good enough to keep up. In the Australian V8 Supercars we have had Women and they have done well. Manhandling a 1300 KG car with little Aero assistance and no ABS or TC at all, plus using s stick shift. It is perfectly understandable and definitely not shocking at all that the 20 best drivers in the world are men and there are no women in F1. There aren't even any women in F2 or F3 getting race wins. They can't compete with males when it comes to the fitness, stamina, reflexes, ability to absorb so much gforce for the extended period of time to drive a Grand Prix. Much like there are no women playing Tennis in the men's comp etc. I'm not saying there are no talented women drivers, just no women drivers capable of beating the top 20 males in an F1 car over a Grand Prix distance. We can't just put women in the sport for the sole sake of including them. If there is a female driver fit enough and consistently fast enough to compete with the men, then yes let them race.

Go to any kindergarten and ask the mixed class about cars, how many kids would raise their hands saying they like cars? How many do you assume are boys and how many do you assume are girls? Males are typically way more interested in sports than females, some sports might be popular among women but motorsports ratio of interest is probably one of the most male dominant. Furthermore, only 20 drivers are in formula 1 per season. It is a costly sport, not everyone is able to put their kids on a kart to learn the ropes early on, not every kid who's passionate about karts gets the sponsorship which allows them to pursue their dreams further, it's hard for anyone to get into formula 1. Besides, talent is also a huge factor and males are proven to be superior to females in the physical aspect. Have reaction times been tested between highly competitive men vs women? This crying about "equal representation" everywhere is starting to piss me off. I wonder when will youtube start promoting videos talking about the lack of female representation in the mining fields or construction sites.

We’d already probably have a female driver or two that are possibly fairly fast in F1 but it will probably never happen if the sport only cares about money… it’s the stupid and unfortunate reality, F1 would also be a lot more exciting to watch because it would be filled with by far the fastest drivers ever, rather than it being fast drivers who make tens of millions a year when some shouldn’t be there

Instead of crying that there's not enough diversity because women just aren't physically strong/powerful enough to compete at high levels of men's sports, they should either find strategies to beat the physicality of the men, or create entertaining sports that benefit their lower centre of gravity and agility... Roller Derby would actually be an excellent example of this if the overwhelming majority of leagues weren't run by women who outright refuse to take any learning from men's sports to aid them towards success.

@@BruceDoesStuff Sports like F1 were designed by men for men. To attract women viewers, women should go back to their first principles and design sports representing the gatherer's approach to bearing risks rather than the hunter's approach. There will always be individuals breaching this dichotomy, which is fine, but being blind to the overwhelming statistics is lose-lose for everyone involved. You die much more likely by not embracing your approach, which kind it is is secondary. (Hunter - single big chunk of risk, get up and repeat, gatherer - risk is spread across small commitments that have to be consistent)

At present there isn't anyone good enough coming through. If you take the backing out of it. Where drivers are racing on merit. They're isn't any female drivers showing that ability. I'm not sayin that women ain't good enough but the current crop ain't got that extra 10%. But surely it comes to grassroots at home. Back then it was dolls and kitchens for girls and building blocks and cars for boys. I watch all forms of Motorsport there is women in other classes doing well but they still ain't as good as there male counterparts. The only woman I know that's done well is Danica Patrick. I don't want women on track unless it's done on merit where she is good enough. And if she has the backing she better be bloody good.

I've never driven an F1 car, or anything similar, but considering how much drivers of these cars train physically, it must require some level of strength. If you look at other physical sports in which men and women compete (track, tennis, etc.) you will see that the BEST women cannot compete against the best men. I'm not being 'sexist' but realistic. Having said that, there have been some exceptions at Indianapolis and in NASCAR, but I'm not sure those types of races are comparable. I'd love to see it, but it has to be based on talent and performance not by using identity as EVERYTHING else seems to be today!

And they lapped as fast as the guys. These girls have the strength and ability. Start young and you develop the necessary strength and endurance to drive fast. Problem is like the video said, Jamie winning 2 seasons in a row, and yet can not get a seat in F3 to see if she is good enough, or even getting track time in a F1 car to test them.

The only lack of diversity I see is a lack of diversity in critical thinking. The drivers with the greatest ability tend to rise to the top. Nothing stopping someone from asia, south america, africa etc. from winning F4, F3, F2 and F1 if they have the talent (and funding as is the case for EVERY driver in motorsport). Whats between their legs, or what color their skin is makes no difference, but their strength to push down that heavy break pedal might, as too their hand eye etc. Its not a matter of gender, its a matter of physical make up which will skew the odds in favor of males. Perhaps we should also work towards more diversity in the 100m Mens Sprint at the Olympics? make that grid 'diverse'? less of these super fast dark skinned people, and more of the slower white skinned people and women of course. Yeah, a 100m Mens final with 50% women and 50% white, that sounds fair right? thats why people watch it right to see diversity over the fastest and most impressive human beings on the planet, right? That makes about as much sense as picking F1 drivers based on skin color or gender. Keep politics out of sport IMO, let the best person win.

i would not mind female drivers in F1, however the fact is that in F1 especially money talks. And most, if not all, of the current female drivers just dont have the right sponsors of funds to enter F1. We saw a couple of them try their hand at F3 in the past but none of them got any points, which is why at the end of it all W series was created. The problem with that series is that their cars are even slower than F3 cars, they are just above karting really in performance. I watched a W series race once and it was boring AF to watch, nothing ever really happened and they were going so slow around the track that i almost fell asleep. Maybe its an endurance problem, F1 is after all the toughest racing sport on ones body to endure, G forces alone can get pretty high on some tracks so that may also contribute to the lack of female drivers in F1. I do think though that a W series champions at least should get a spot in at least F3 and then it would be on them to perform to get to F2 and maybe even F1. W series not having a step up point right now really is a big issue

Women will get there just like top gun female pilots, having the advantage of a lighter body (less g's exposure) and also a shorter heart to brain distance, which also helps in large g manoeuvres. If anyone starts karting at 5 years old they will learn the tricks of the trade. Especially in something like driving that is not the same as pure athletic sports like boxing or the 100m sprint or marathon in which genetics and body composition play a much larger role in being the right type to win. Not saying f1 guys are not fit, but body tyoe matters much less compared to elite athletics. Take for example Tia Toomey she would guaranteed be stronger and fitter than any male motorsport guy in the world, just a matter of time.
