Can you imagine what it is like facing a 200 year prison sentence? Join Shaun Attwood, a former stock-market millionaire and Ecstasy supplier turned public speaker, author and activist, as he describes what it was like to end up in Arizona’s deadliest jail and most importantly, what his shocking experience has taught him about happiness in life.
Shaun Attwood is a former stock-market millionaire and Ecstasy supplier turned public speaker, author and activist, who is banned from America for life.
Shaun’s writing - smuggled out of the jail with the highest death rate in America run by Sheriff Joe Arpaio - attracted international media attention to the human rights violations: murders by guards and gang members, dead rats in the food, cockroach infestations…
While incarcerated, Shaun was forced to reappraise his life. He read over 1,000 books in just under six years. By studying original texts in psychology and philosophy, he sought to better understand himself and his past behaviour. He credits books as being the lifeblood of his rehabilitation.
Shaun now tells his story to schools to put young people off drugs and crime. He campaigns against injustice via his books and blog, Jon’s Jail Journal. He has appeared on the BBC, Sky News and TV worldwide to talk about issues affecting prisoners’ rights.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

That WASN'T a prison that he was talking about, that's just good old Maricopa County Jail ! Sheriff Joe Arpaio was the dungeon master of that torture chamber for years until he was finally voted out for profiling, prisoner abuse, criminal recklessness, plus a number of other charges. And just like any other criminal he takes a shine to, President Trump pardoned him just as he was about to go get locked up inside his own Hellhole for a year for criminal contempt. Mind you, it's still not a jail that you want to be locked up in...........

Meh, i had cockroaches for long enough. The only really horrible thing about them is they are so hard to get rid of. It's easier to herd cats. (lol hope you can see that image). Anyway, they don't bite, and they're sort of smart, like for example they hide quite good, but they got behind the glass display in our stove then they have no fear, even if i tap they glass, they're like "HA-HA.. you can't get me".

Catrina Raiford what you have already achieved is incredibly impressive, just think of all of the hard work you put in already, you owe it to yourself to continue, otherwise it was all for nothing. Discipline is so hard to get started again once it resets back to zero but something as small as tidying your room can literally change your life, the effects of this will ripple through into other areas of your life, it's just taking that first step that seems so daunting and hard but it gets easier once you get the ball rolling, you just need to create order out of the chaos and before you know it you have an established routine, you are exercising regularly and happier/healthier than you have ever been, both mentally and physically. I am not trying to belittle your battle with this by over simplifying how hard it might be, but the first step is the most important one and I sincerely hope you find your way through these struggles and find happiness Catrina, you have limitless potential and you are worth it. Good luck.

I had to stop at Two Tony's for a bit to let the sadness of your story rise in me to the point of allowing myself to cry. Life has a way of delivering us 'the extremes' to be able to recalibrate our perceptions in life and transition from the desires of the material (relative) world to the 'oneness' (Absolute) of helping others through unconditional acts of love. You signed quite a deal in this lifetime. Very much a chosen angel. Please don't pay attention to people who take issue with your breathing and your dry mouth, it might be they never had an experience so horrible as to (re)create a physiological response when talking about it or even when thinking about it. Some might consider themselves lucky, while others might consider them unawakened. Please don't ever stop telling your story Shaun.
