(Support us at / whatdidtheysay ) In the classic Forrest Gump, you may wonder what he was saying when his mic was "accidentally" shut off while protesting at a Vietnam War Rally in DC. With Caption / Subtitle.
tricycle_ according to lure he was super smart, became a scientist or sum. Solved a bunch of stuff. Worked for the gov. He was just "dumb" in the way he spoke
I always wondered why the guy with the US shirt was moved to tears. But after seeing this, he and only a few of the veterans who were standing next to Forrest could hear, what he had to say about Vietnam. So this was maybe one of the most important moments in the movie and no one could hear it.
What's sad is that I'm pretty sure he might have changed a few people's minds in that crowd about the service men in Vietnam. I think this scene is also symbolic as the people who were there never got to explain their side if the story or their experiences.
PickelJars ForHillary when they get attacked LT Dan says “Charlie is everywhere” on the radio before he calls in the air strikes 🙂 (Charlie is the Vietcong)
I can only imagine what the protesters would do if they actually heard it. That speech is like really sad and also totally points the quagmire of that war that is often described as a big clusterf%^&. I'm sure most of them would be sad and angered even more.
Kelly Chuang Most of those protesters wouldnt have given a fuck, those are the same people who were throwing shit at and spitting on soldiers returning home.
Hunter Wanzell It wasn’t our soldiers fault. In fact they did an amazing job in the war, winning basically ever single engagement and battle. It was LBJ who screwed our chances
+Chicken Of the Cave they didn't win every battle. that some ignorant American propaganda. there were entire marine and army companies wiped out and bases overrun.
Fun fact: the man in the American flag shirt is Abbie Hoffman. He was a political and social activisr who co-founded the Youth International Party and as a member of the Chicago Seven. He was also a leading member of the Flower Power movement.
Bubba was his best good friend, he couldn't leave him out there, only reason those other guys survived is only because he stumbled by them as he looked for his only friend.
I've actually heard of a case like this, though it's extremely rare. Twin sisters with a different skin color caused by mixed ancestry on both sides of the family, was quite interesting to see
Why would the officer wanted to unplug the microphones for? I was going to think he was going to say to himself by going, "Nobody gives a fuck about your trip to Vietnam, son." According to actor Tom Hanks, Forrest says, "There was only one thing I could say about the war in Vietnam, In Vietnam, Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing." That's what Forrest said. That officer is going to get fired or suspended without pay for doing that. The actor has been identified in this scene was actor Dick Stilwell was responsible for playing that role in that scene. Actress Hilary Chaplain sees the officer was removing the plugs off the microphones because he didn't want to hear his speech. She tells him to put them back on. He says, "No. I'm not going to plug the mikes back on, I'm not going to hear that guy's speech. If you don't step back, I'm going to press charges. Now leave me the fuck alone so I can do my fucking job." as he continues to unplug the microphones. You can tell that Hilary calls him a "goddamn oinker." after the marchers grabbed him. I was going to get worried that the officer was going to escape by getting restrained by the marchers and begins to yell at Hilary that he is not a "goddamn oinker" and was ordering her to get away from the speakers because he doesn't want to hear the speech that Forrest gave to the crowd. Hilary tells him, "No." that she is not leaving the area. And just like that, She'll be charged for not following the officer's orders. I was also getting worried that he was going to say, "It's none of your business." at her as he was unplugging the microphones.
The filmmakers never actually outright said that, so I do not believe you, and YOU don’t have the right to judge what they do and do not mean. Keep it to yourself, but don’t treat it as a fact.
A name that references HOMESTUCK If you did not participate or have family that were in and were affected by Vietnam, you have no right to look down upon the people who did PERIOD.
Robert Clifford When did I say I looked down on them you fucking idiot? Are you so ignorant that you think any other opinion someone else has looks down on them? And yes, my grandfather lost a leg in Vietnam and I’m very close to him. His medals and badges are framed on our living room wall. I know he’d be embarrassed to be “defended” by someone like you.
I’ve seen those clips that those veterans threw away their medals, if they heard this they would be absolutely touched. No politics, accusations or demands, this is just plain fact about war, some people come home broken, some people don’t even come home.
Eddie Miller It was a book. You should read the book. They missed the part where he becomes an astronaut, fails his launch, lands in a Forrest of cannibals, and has to beat the leader cannibal at a game of chess every day to stay alive. Anyways, you should read the book. :D Edit: he actually didn’t fail the launch, the rocket failed. Forest Gump never fails
"There was this man, giving a little talk. And for some reason, he was wearing an American flag for a shirt … and he liked to say the “F” word. A lot. “F” this and “F” that."
What I don’t get about this scene is why the American flag shirt guy didn’t have Forrest repeat what he said since the crowd couldn’t hear it. Was he supposed to have not noticed the mic wasn’t on during the speech or something?
The man who unplugged the microphone and silenced Forrest is the lowest of our species. I know it’s not a true event but some people performed equally abhorrent acts, and I hope they were judged for it. That’s all I have to say about that.
Yeah they actually had his speech in the novel written out, but what happened in the movie is still what happened in the book. They didn’t change it that much.
This scene is supposed to be incredibly cringy, keeping the spectator on edge with Forrest about to make a fool of himself in front of thousands. Great directing and script writing :)
A man that qualified with guns, being able to survive a war just with a shot in the butt... hardly can be called "retarded". But i liked the drill sergant a lot!
If you lived in that incredible time you would understand the confusion of what was right and what was wrong and how to deal with it. So ma y changes were happening.
I’m sure people thought they had good reasons . At the end of the day I feel like people who protest just protest to feel good . I’m not saying that’s all of them .
Hugh Mongus At the end of the day they go figth a rich man's war and die for dirty plutocracy's.And they did kill anything animals pesticide crops kill anybody but the cong forced kids to run in with bombs too as long as we have politics polute our selves kill animals and humans we have a long road to fix up our shit.
