People need to realise that AEW is a brand new company, the show that was presented to us was with lack of storylines and promos. Not everyone watches Being the Elite. Give it some time, let the weekly broadcast roll out, and when we get to know the characters better, I'm sure AEW is going to be one of the best wrestling companies out there.

Got to agree with you there. At times I felt it was missing story but as an introduction to a company for a first show it definitely done its job and then some. Happy to pay the ppv price to support these boiz and girls

I think the opposite will happen. The AEW wrestlers are great workers but they are not good at carrying storylines unless you completely buy into their silliness. BTE is not something that would go over well with the mainstream fan. It needs to be broad and it needs to be simple. When they do week to week is when the cracks will start to show.

GO when did i say lets cheer for him? There are some good heels who get cheered just cuz how awesome they are, doesnt mean they are bad at their job, like kevin owens or early Wyatt family days and some heels are fun to boo as they are amazing at being pure heal like mjf , vickie guerrero or ciampa. Both are fine in their own ways as long as its not xpac heat or corbin heat as it should now be called. Business has changed , traditional heels and faces dont work the same way (exactly why cena roman got booed hulk didnt back in the day and im willing to say a heel roddy piper would probably get cheered in this day and age too)

As a long time WWE fan, I was so excited for AEW DON and I can honestly say, I’ve never been so excited for this to become a weekly show on TNT... DON was amazing in my eyes. All matches were from good to excellent and the crowd was hyped all through the night. The fact that this ppv went on until midnight and I didn’t even notice because I was so invested in these matches of people I hardly knew speaks volumes to how I feel about AEW overall! Amazing job and I hope they can keep this up!

I think one of the unsung great parts of DoN was the crowd. The spontaneous first "cero miedo!" chant during the entrance of the lucha brothers entrance was incredible. You can kinda tell it caught Pentagon Jr. off guard and he loved it. Obviously then he called for it to great effect multiple times afterwards.

I think the Cody entrance referenced Trips because of what he said to Billy Gun during the WWE HOF calling AEW a "pissant company." As much Triple H is liked because of NXT, Cody found a way to get back at him for that. A crazy event overall. Nothing like competition to put energy into the industry.

End of the day the chance for slights were there and I would now like AEW to stop and focus on their own product from hereonin. But right now it was a hype move and hopefully stays at that.

I think the Cody/Dustin Match was exactly what we expected, and honestly, I think the time length was Perfect. The Blading a bit much, yes, but everything ELSE, Perfect. Dustin never GOT the Attention he deserved in the E; and thus, this was needed to show off he still Had the Talent.....even though, yeah, his Timing is Closing in....

I used to enjoy WWE product as a younger fan, but as I gradually climb into my mid 20s I really have started to enjoy what AEW is giving us, they absolutely entertain me with BTE, however the wrestling is sooo much enjoyable, I love the technical wrestling! The spots that the Young Bucks and the Lucha Bros did was unreal!! This is 100% switching me over as a “wrestling fan” I hope the story lines like Omega and Y2J will continue to be strong and drawing me back for more!

I enjoyed the show overall, the matches were paced high and well, with the best one being Cody vs Dustin for its storytelling. But I’m not sure about the constant WWE-referencing. If they’re pushing themselves as the alternative, I don’t think reminding people of their existence is the best move. The TV production was also flawed, mostly the cameras pointing the wrong way during entrances.

I agree with your take on the matches and camera work. However I feel like this wwe referencing was alright, as long as its to a minimum moving forwards. Not gonna lie, it made me a bit intrigued to see if wwe will react on raw (thats saying a lot as I'm not looking forward to raw these days except for the firefly fun house) and I finally experienced some sense of competition in wrestling business ( I didnt watch it during wcw days)

They'll learn from it. This is their first show. Mistakes were going to happen. I dont think that should distract from how great of a show it was. Cody is an emotional guy. You see it in his matches and maybe he took it too far but I like that these guys have a chip on their shoulder. Moxley, Jim Ross, Cody, Dustin, Spears, all felt like they were being held down by WWE. If taking shots fuels them to put on amazing shows like this one then so be it.

It had it's bad moments, it had its problems. However this was the first show as a company and not some random dudes putting on a show. It was much better than any PPV I've seen this year, wwe have to be thankful that AEW won't be back till October!

@@KayBearYT variety? That's one of the problems I found with last night. The wrestling all throughout was excellent but there was no diversity. Every single match was somewhat of a spotfest except for cody vs Dustin which was match of the night. I get they haven't got any proper storylines yet but variety wise takeover was a lot better.

I liked the symbolism of going after Trips. Because I don't think that was for the crowd (the pyro itself was, but the bit? I'm not sure it was), I think it was specifically a conversation with him. Because, like, Vince is too simple a story. He's too far gone, and you can't talk to him. But our poor Hunter? The bit was a challenge, but I think also an invitation. Like, "you are the heir apparent to a dying throne, what are you going to do about it?" Vince is gonna Vince. There's no point in calling him out for anything. Paul as a man not a gimmick though? He has to do some heavy thinking about his life and his future and what he's willing to do to keep both. "Are you gonna let Vince let us destroy your legacy? Are you *really* just gonna stand there and temper tantrum like your father in law? Or are you gonna rise to this? What are you willing to sacrifice to save your (metaphorical) children from your father figure?" AEW wants to win, but they want to win a fair fight. They know real competition makes everyone stronger. They do not *really* want the WWE to crash and burn, not that they won't enjoy watching the tire fire if it does. They want him to get aggressively and proactively furious, not reactively and defensively snide like he's been.

It also fits in with the whole generation vs generation theme Cody was building his match with. Hunter is the most prominent wrestler of the attitude era still involved in the product if I remember correctly. Destroying the throne was part of killing the attitude era imo, on top of everything you said

Cody’s bit with the throne and sledgehammer wasn’t a personal dig HHH, it was a dig at WWE in general. I don’t get the complaint that it should have had something to do with Vince rather than HHH. Vince doesn’t do gimmick entrances, he doesn’t have specialized logos and he doesn’t have a signature weapon. It was so much easier to base the symbolism off of HHH rather than Vince. I thought it was great. I also loved the Young Bucks nod to the Motor City Machine Guns by hitting Phoenix with the Made in Detroit

Bryan Alvarez I believe tweeted that Bret did fall but was completely fine. Also, I wouldn’t call that a DVD that Moxley did, but an AA. For Moxley’s video package, he broke out of the WWE prison and was chased by that “Big Dog”, which was being thought to be Roman Reigns, but I believe it was meant to be John Cena. If not, I still prefer it to be an AA just because it’s a WWE slap in the face. Bucks vs Lucha Bros was definitely the best match action wise, but story wise Cody vs Dustin was best. Overall, a great PPV to start off AEW. Vince, I think you better watch out.

I'm glad they added six Japanese wrestlers. I was excited to see Riho in this since I saw her matches on RU-vid over ten years ago. She's been wrestling since was 9 and already has over a decade of experience. I remember wanting to see her in a WWE ring, but this was great instead.

Dustin didn't need to blade so deeply, but it was a pleasure to see him work full blast for the first time in years. That post-match promo between Dustin and Cody was epic, emotional, and was the kind of stuff WCW used to do. The Dream taught them well.

Cody vs Dustin was one of my favourite matches I've ever seen, maybe I'm getting carried away but it was a proper old school wrestling match, the storytelling between the two was amazing, the blood, the drama of it all, it was just amazing. I think the shot at Triple H was because of the Pissant comment btw.

This was a great PPV. There were bad moments and the main event was not exactly what it should have been, but, especially compared to anything WWE is putting out at the moment, it was a satisfying and inspiring PPV. Regarding the WWE-references: I think this was their way to declare a war, this is what they want after all. The rubs against WWE were fitting to this overall theme. They should not keep doing this over and over, but for clarifying what they are out to do it was executed pretty nicely. ... also Shawn Spears was eliminated quite uncerimoniously... like I felt bad for him. I mean they should create new stars instead on relying on established ex-WWE guys, but man he was underutilized back there and last night he could at least have been among the final four.

I enjoyed this show. It felt like a big PPV. I liked how the matches felt different. Shawn Spears was great as well as MJF. Loved the Cody vs Dustin match, the emotion matched the build to the match. The tag match was outstanding. I didn’t even know it was possible to do some of the moves they did. The main event was very good as well but people will be talking about the ending. Moxly is in AEW and that’s fantastic. An Omega vs Moxly where Moxly has free will over his character is something I can get behind.

Double or Nothing was a thoroughly entertaining show, but I think people need to calm down a little. It seems as though viewers are so desperate for a legitimate alternative to Main Roster WWE, that whatever is given to us by AEW is going to be well received. The reason that Raw and Smackdown are so average is that the fan base became complacent about what was given to them. Not actually being critical of the product and continuously pouring money in. The ending of the Jericho v Omega main event wasn't spectacular, the writing of the Women's Division needs improvement and the early parts of the show were littered with far too many multi-person matches. We can support and be excited about AEW without blindly lapping up what they deliver. Let's keep them to the same standard that we do with NJPW and WWE and see where they go naturally, instead of propping them as professional wrestling's savior prematurely. The Elite has done a fantastic job and I can't wait to see what happens next, I'll be glued to my screen.

I think the reaction is just representative of the way things are in pop culture these days. You either love something wholeheartedly as if it is faultless or you hate on it and never acknowledge positives. There seems to be a big "I love AEW fuck WWE" group and then a " Who gives a shit about indie shit" group. I agree with you that the show was fun but nowhere near the quality of some peoples reactions. I do like people enjoying their wrestling though I just wish they didn't need to put other promotions down to justify what they enjoy.

My biggest beef on the night was going into the bestfriends match. The commentary team talked about the 10 second tag rule, and JR said "as long as they enforce it" then the match turned into a tornado tag for the most part. Over all I think the commentary team was a bit off sync. Good show though.

I've been following Riho career since she was the youngest wrestler in Ice Ribbon (age 9) all the way to the current promotion she is in Gatoh Move... Emi Sakura is and will always be the best teacher to teach her.. I'm really glad to see Emi and Riho make it to a major wrestling promotion in the states...

I think the Cody destroying Triple H throne was a friendly competitive challenge towards Triple H. Cody kmows Triple H is the future of WWE and that HHH is the real threat to AEW if he ever gets control of WWE. I didnt take as something egregious. Double or Nothing was so much fun, every match fully captured my friends and I’s attention, even with some of the wrestlers they knew nothing about. Which to me, is a sign that something is being done right. As far as I’m concerned, Cody vs. Dustin was match of the night. It was well done and emotionally charged, especially the ending for it.
