What Happened Inside the Airplane Graveyard?

I visited Mojave, California which is a famous airplane graveyard in the desert. More than 100 planes are stored here and it is end of the line for most planes that arrive in the graveyard. I went inside an ex Thai Airways B747-400 to take a look at the interior, much to my surprise the interior had been kept intact. Then I step inside an ex-Qantas B747 and found my way to walk on the 747 wing! I could almost touch the winglet!
Then we drove to Victorville to meet up with an airplane scraper Huy, Huy gave us a tour and explained how they tear down airplanes using an excavator. The useful parts, such as the engines, the avionics and the interior, are usually stripped out for sale . We went inside an ex United B747-400 and ex Singapore/VIM B777-200 to take a look.
Talaat Captan, owner of Air Hollywood, and Anthony Toth, co-owner of the Pan Am Experience, appear in this video as tour guides of the airplane graveyard storage.

One of the few times Anthony needs correction: Not all 747SPs had the longitudinal galley. TWA’s SPs were delivered with galleys that ran left to right between doors 1 L and R rather than the longitudinal galley between doors 1 R and 2R.

that is a good question. so far i think that he has travelled with all the commercially available air lines. and some more rare once. So the only thing i am not sure about are ether plains that have been taken out of service before he was old enough to fly at all. some small regional aircraft's. and air-planes that are off limed (think of militarily or governmental owned aircraft's) I am also curious if Sam has ever been flying in helicopters and the likes.

The reason why some A380s are already being retired is because they are just not economical enough for some of today’s airlines. It has nothing to do with the airframes or flying hours.... because the retired A380s still had many decades of live left in them. They just aren’t efficient enough, and they are also too large for many airports. This of course decreases versatility, and the amount of routes that the aircraft can execute.

I would love to see inside those MartinAir MC-11s ... the were convertibles... could be changed from passenger to cargo configuration, often done seasonally when they'd fly their MD-11s to the Dutch Islands in the Caribbean.... or for charter. I think they were used more for cargo, at least when I was working there.

I've shed sweat n tears maintaining those Qantas 747's at the Jet base in Sydney...and now they're just slowly dying in the desert. 10:14 VH-OJN was one of the first planes I worked on as a first year apprentice.

John O That's cool! I just started studying A/p so I like listening to people's experience, my instructor worked in the 747's as well! One hell of a plane but boy does it require alot of elbow grease . Best of luck and thank you for your hard work. Technicians need more recognization :)

@@alahadtama Thankyou. The 747 is a great aircraft but it was designed before computers were big and as such it could be hard to work on, whereas the 767 was designed by computers and around easier access for maintenance workers. All the best with your A&P's my friend.

Back in the late 80s to the mid-90s, I worked for a couple of airlines in flight operations. I remember several times where we ferried aircraft to park in the desert, though most of those were going into storage. But it's nice to see the end-of-the-road where they go at the end of their flying career.

Funny, an advert for Virgin Atlantic airlines came on towards the end of this video, very appropriate. On the other hand, it's interesting how you guys turn the sad prospect of the 747s and MD-11s getting scrapped into a fun experience in this video. Mojave has always been a place that has fascinated me.

8:32 Qantas has just painted over the Kangaroo 🦘 logo on the tail of their planes before they fly them here all the way to the other end of world. Another way to tribute respect to the retired airplanes 👌

I doubt it. Qanats has respect for nothing or nobody anymore. More a symbol of embarrassment, as if trying to hide something, bit silly really.
