I don't think its a case of "nobody cares", its a case of "we enjoy your content no matter what". Your variety is what makes you interesting. The farm stuff, the regular car stuff, the oddball logging robot. Your videos have been the highlight of my sundays for a while now. Don't make any drastic changes, just do what you want to do.

This. So most people are just going to enjoy the content for whatever it is. We're not going to say anything unless it starts to suck. The people complaining are usually looking for a specific type of content and when you go off script they get upset.

To me, the magic of WWW is Wes. You're the reason I watch every video you post. I don't care whether it's a build video, will it run, repair, diagnostics, or whatever, as long as it features Wes' brilliant mind solving a problem and injecting your unique humor. That's the recipe. I've described your channel to friends as the Dr. House of vehicle diagnostics. My advice, for what it's worth, don't lose what makes Wes who he is. I also really enjoying the occasional cameo by your family. I don't know Wes, and will probably never meet him, but he seems like someone I would want as a friend, and that's why I watch.

I'm a mechanic from Germany and I watch every video you put up. Because of the 4 mentioned points. And because you are a hard working, funny und educated person. I like the 'not edited out' mistakes, because they happen to me as well. Hard for me to make suggestions, other then: don't stop making the videos you did. And yes, there is no huge demand for your genre. There are much less people that like watching 'down to earth' (technical) content without clickbait, then the sensationel scripted reality media stuff, the majority is powerful clicking on and RU-vid ist built for. But there is no german channel in your genre, that can keep up with your videos, educational-,humor-,contentwise. So I stick with your, Matt's, John's, Andrew's, ... videos. Stay healthy!

I usually avoid comments, but I’ve watched you now for several years, and I love your problem solving skills. Especially your ability to get to root causes so effectively. I don’t care about music, editing or fancy add ins. Your cynicism connects well with me and probably many others. I find this channel interesting and educational. Hope this helps.

It continually surprises me that you do not have over 1,000,000 subs at this pont. Your videos are always well edited, not overly technical and straight to the point. I put you on par with diesel creek and south main. I think your recent foray into skits were freaking cinimatic gold. The variety of work always keeps me coming back. I do not understand RU-vid or their algorithms. I will follow you into whatever realm the channel moves to. I have many of the same interests as you.

Hey Wes, I’m a retired architect that worked at a very large west coast aerospace company. You remind me of the Equipment Engineers that I had the pleasure to work with. They were responsible for procurement thru operations of 100’ 5-axis routers to autoclaves big enough to drive a semi into! They were also fearless, would tackle the smallest to the largest equipment. They also treated their own vehicles like puzzles to be solved, whether the vehicles were broken or not 😂. Carry on, you’re just fine. Keep finding the humor in things even though it’s tough sometimes! From a fan!

I think you might be overlooking a thing or two. The one that comes readily to mind is your presentation. You have a hell of a droll sense of humor. Combine that with your ability to laugh at yourself and the skill that you bring to each task then the content doesn't matter as much because you bring it alive. Hell, Wes, I'm more than a bit older than you and you always teach me something. And I finish the video feeling better. For my 2 cents you're doing just fine. And I thank you.

I think your core brand is a story about a small-town mechanic who is always challenged with repairing rusted out old junk and cheap imports that comes into your shop. Your ability to diagnose and fix these problems in a funny way, with professional (not half-ass) solutions, makes your channel interesting and fun to watch.

Wes, you don’t need to change a thing unless you want to. This is certainly one of very few consistently great channels on RU-vid- I look forward to every post knowing that whatever direction your amazing brain wants to go in will be down an interesting path, and that I’m sure to learn and laugh along the way. Thank you for the time and effort that you put in to making these videos, the execellent editing is certainly noticed and very much appreciated. Have faith in yourself- don’t obsess about the algorithm, and keep doing whatever you like; we’re with you all the way. Happy New Year to you, Mrs. Wes, the young ‘un and the champion mouser!

Just speaking for myself, a guy who did a lot of wrenching many years ago, I watch your videos because of your wry sense of humor, your amazing ability to diagnose, think things through, diagram out, explain your logic, fabricate parts, and your humble ability to discuss your mistakes. It’s literally “watching you work”. My personal favorites are where you receive a really messed up “piece of hot garbage” to borrow a phrase from Mortske, and you diagnose it, fix it and get it operating again. That could be anything from an old welder to a snow mobile to a vehicle. Adding the extra touches such as music etc. are nice but not why I watch. Please keep up the good work, hope you and family had a very nice Christmas and best wishes for a very good new year.

"You're fine, Wes. There's nothing wrong with your brain." Your channels are authentic and unscripted, not misleading clickbait. I noticed your music, but I wasn't interested in the music itself. I was more interested in what you were saying and showing. I have a brain similar to yours, and I believe that with all of us watching your content, we can beat the RU-vid algorithm. You just need to guide and motivate us in the right direction so we can overcome that challenging algorithm. If you need more comments, please let us know. If they need to be longer, they will be. We can defeat the beast, and as a result, we will gain more benefits. More income for you equals more fun and educational content for us. Just stay well and continue being yourself. Many warm wishes from Croatia!

Hi Wes. I absolutely look forward to watching you every week. As a diesel mechanic myself my wife finds it strange that I watch videos about people fixing equipment. She can’t understand it, but the reason is simple, we never stop learning until the day we die. I have been watching from the very beginning and gotten to know the quality of work that you produce and like the way that you problem solve. I have taken things away from your videos and used it to help solve my own work problems. Thankyou

In my opinion, your best videos are when you go rescue some junk with your father. Keep it up, I enjoy your varied content. You should also pick on Mortske!

The first video I saw was diagnosing/fixing some tractor problem with your Dad. I think capturing those moments is a good thing for everyone involved. Just at the 10 year mark from my Dad dying, glad I got to spend a bit more time with him over that final years, it took a while to make that a priority ... because life. I sure miss being able to share my odd project/problem successes and many struggles with him.

Wes, the reason I watch you is that you have such an amazingly broad set of skills at your disposal. You are an engineer that does mechanic work and a bunch of other stuff. I don't know of anyone on RU-vid with your breadth of skills. Fabrication, electronics, CNC, nothing seems to intimidate you. That is really cool and that's what makes you unique in my book. I always enjoy seeing your family......it keeps us in a reality context. Your struggles with projects and how to use your time are the same that plague us all and it's always interesting to see how you navigate all that. My sense is you would feel better about yourself if you cull the waiting projects about 50% just in self defense....get some of these off your list.....as in, trash some stuff or get the wife to help market the scrap. You will be successful any way you take your channel because you are an interesting, intelligent guy with a refreshing perspective. Keep up the great work.

I was thinking the same after watching all of the projects sitting outside. If you know people who want some of them, let them change owners. In total, they look like a problem of an unrealistic perception of time availability. The interior projects could be a similar situation if taken in whole, but I see that if some were to be completed, they could actually help productivity. Do you have someone available who could take on small assignments? A high school mechanics student? A nephew?

Wes, I'm sure hundreds of people have said the same thing already but I just wanted to put in my two cents as a long time subscriber.. Each RU-vidr has their own 'niche' characteristic that makes them enjoyable to watch, Squatch has his absolute perfection, Mortske, his ability to remember interesting vintage car trivia, Diesel Creek obviously the large machinery, Pine Hollow, very detailed and advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting. My point being, trust your gut and just do what you do. The longer videos is a great idea since we love watching what you do, tid bits of the family and other projects add to the variety of your abilities, and your real fans know that and appreciate that. Once you get all of your ducks in a row like organizing the shop and finishing the lingering projects you have laying around, it'll clear out some space in the shop and in your mind for the possibilities ahead. So if you are looking for some advice finish those projects and get rid of the ones that don't have a future and you know it, the sooner the better. Then hone into what made your channel great in the first place, your ability to fix anything that is thrown at you. (Without breaking the bank of course) Thank you for the years of content and keep it up, much love to the family and I hope you have a wonderful new year! -Brendon

Agree with him too - I've been here since the location X times, the first one might have been the dragline crane, but I don't watch the videos from your "youtube friends". It is mostly the person, not really the genre. I'm subscribed to other persons who have approx as many subscribers as you - they are great in their fields, make great content, but maybe this is the "extent of the territory" if you don't follow the algorythm, i.e post more often, longer videos and ask everybody to subscribe and so on. The logging robot is not really for me, but still would watch it. I would much rather enjoy seeing you paint. :) I paint bikes and smaller repairson cars, but only in the summertime as my shed is not insulated and it is always something I dread and usually do twice to be acceptable. :D

Don’t stray too far from the format you have now. It works. We click to watch as soon as content is uploaded. You’ve built a fan base without ever resorting to like and subscribe being thrown around. That’s a faith in your audience that we respect and admire. I like your interaction with the audience and the dog. You’ve got the measure of both of us in terms of what we are thinking and what we’ll react to. Humour, interest, nationality differences and the level of experience that we have. I’ll never work on a sketchy logging robot but I’ve got some skills in electronics and mechanics that I can use to follow where you’re going with it. That makes it interesting for me but it’s pitched at a level that someone non technical can grasp too. Keep them coming but don’t try to keep the algorithm happy, keep us happy with the way you do it already. We’ll keep tuning in. Thanks and happy new year. Give max an ear tickle from me.

You are one of three of my favorite YT channels. Likes are no music, no time lapse, variety of projects, humor, and repair of any machinery. The one thing that makes a channel successful imo is the personalities. Your extra views in years following release may be due to mentions you get on other channels. A few collaborations or cameos with other YT channels would spread the word.

You sir, are a freaking treasure. I am a recent subscriber and have only been for around 18 months. I was referred here by our favorite Canadian swearing coach, Peg, of all people. In that 18 months, I have binged most all of your content, although there are a few outliers I’m sure. I have been a heavy duty diesel tech for 25 years (am45 now) and I have learned so much from you. You have helped me become a more proficient troubleshooter by slowing down and looking at things analytically. For that, I thank you. I dig all of your content truthfully. I can live through you vicariously like with the robot log mover. I would never have the gravitas to dive in headfirst outside my comfort zone like you do. Bravo sir. As far as the channel, again, all your content kicks ass. I don’t need polished, but I do notice the effort. Your humor is great. Personally, I enjoy 30+ minute videos I can watch to wind down when the wife and kids retire to bed, as that’s my time. I can’t understand how you don’t have far more than a million subscribers. Happy new year Wes! For the record, I love the new editing tricks and changes and definitely notice it as a positive thing. I believe your videos hit all the checkmarks you referred to in the video. Will it run videos are great, especially when they are followed up with that vehicle becoming some sort of project. I do notice that these "will it run" channels or other big car-tubers have titles I think of as comic book titles. Everything is in caps and try to grab your attention. " BOOM, BAM, POW" ie: WILL it RUN 8000 miles with NO OIL. Some of these build channels completely shut off comment, like Fireball Tool. And I don't know why that is. But every build channel does one thing. Time lapse. Sometimes with voice overs. Sometimes no voice over. Build videos are great. And I love your style. But I think why casual viewers like them is because they see the before/after happen right in front of them. Longer videos are the best. People love watching wes work. So don't limit them to just 10 mins of your craft. Sometimes people enjoy the mundane in-between the actual progress. They enjoy the struggle. Watching you work also involves a little dead space of no work. Your channel allows us to be a fly on the wall in your shop. Like the old man sitting in the chair during Essential Craftsman videos. Keep up the great work. Love your stuff. Your videos are extremely educational and balance being technical without outcasting those with limited knowledge.

First of all, you are my #1 choice for RU-vid videos from all my subscriptions. Your sense of humor, obvious intelligence and rural spin on things keeps me coming back. Your editing is spot on for your audience. Plus, I live in a climate like yours and I appreciate the fact that sometimes nuts get rusted and bolts break off. Now, having said that, I'm going to "name names" for a little bit here. I also watch Rainman Ray, and his editing drives me bananas. I really don't need to watch him remove every single lug nut or every single bolt on a valve cover. Drives me nuts (no pun intended). I've never felt myself getting frustrated by your editing. And, as far as the type of videos, I like your variety. There are channels out there that specialize in rebuild/restoration like Vice Grip Garage. But, I actually think the name of your channel says it all. I like to Watch Wes Work. I like your insight, diagnostic thought, and your comments while you're working. Anyway, your channel just works for me. I wish you could post a couple of times a week, and I'd watch every video, but I can totally understand why that isn't possible.

Wes: I have been a viewer of your channel since it began back in the industrial park. Here are my comments: I like your work and especially your wry sense of humour, your wonderful family and your interplay with Mrs. Wes, kiddo and Max - it’s all working for me. I like the mix of topics (automotive, agricultural, shop repairs, industrial equipment, will it run etc.). Overall, and I MEAN THIS - your channel is one of my favourites and I always watch it first whenever a new video comes up. Finally, like most bright creative people (especially engineers) you are intellectually restless and also, pretty hard on yourself. I doubt you can change that - but I’d advise you to just accept it and do what we’re all doing with your channel - enjoy! Pete - in Canada

What’s more, they worked and everyone lived to tell the tale! Your sense of humor is spot on and I often laugh out loud when watching. I watch whatever you post because even if it may not be in my wheelhouse it stretches my thinking and helps me learn in different ways that can apply to my own career which has nothing to do with cars, machinery or projects like you do. Before I say anything, I want to mention: I, along with many others here, will support whatever you decide to do and any direction you decide to take. Please don't get discouraged. I joined the train in 2020 right after covid hit and love all your content. As someone in construction in that type of "brown-collar" position, I appreciate the hands-on practicality and the engineering type explanation of your videos. I know building, not mechanical things, but I can always find something interesting and educational in your videos. Especially at this point, I trust your judgement on video topics. I consume RU-vid as my version of cable, so I live out of my subscription box. I see a new vid from you come out, and I click to watch it. I'm not really worried about what it might be about, because no matter what I know I will enjoy it. Please don't think that your extra effort in editing has gone unnoticed. I love the skits and the music and the extra bit of polish, because I can appreciate that extra level of work you have put into it to upgrade my experience as the viewer. I respect the hell out of that. If you do decide to scale it back because the consensus of your feedback dictates that, I understand and will still watch and enjoy your videos all the same. If you put out a quick little video of something you thought was interesting or a 4 hour mega movie montage, I will still watch and enjoy every moment of it. Knowledge and exposure is fascinating in my opinion, so whether it be sewing or putting together a resin printer or reframing your corner office or setting up your new lifts or fixing the backhoe (etc), I don't care: I'm in. Lets do it. The result remains the same: I'm gonna watch it, I'm gonna like it, and I'm gonna share it with my friends.

I personally like the 20-to-45-minute videos. An hour, hour and a half to two hours with minutiae, I tend to zone out. I think your editing is spot on. Everything we need to see and hear, nothing we don't, and you always find a way to give Max his moment in the sun. I like the fabricating/ machining productions as much as the troubleshooting right down to the crusty plow truck content. One quality you put forth that I don't think you're aware of is that you can explain what you're doing in a non-condescending manner. I come for the technical content and stay for the sarcasm. I 100% agree with liking the variety. It seems like the return from the hours you probably spend editing and polishing is not worth it....for me, I'd rather have another video instead. And while I love the new stuff and new gadgets, I kinda miss some of the repair videos. So for my $0.02 (which is probably not worth $0.02), keep doing what you're doing, but throw in some repair/diagnostics videos with the time you free up by agonizing less over the editing. My best advice to you is JUST BE YOURSELF - that is why you have so many followers! Your old videos might be getting more hits due to new subscribers who are working backwards to see your work from the past. Edit the videos to YOUR liking - sometimes unpolished and uncut vids show a more human side to how things REALLY ARE! We all make errors and goofs and it helps us feel more connected instead of watching some sterile, seemingly perfect guy working in a pristine, ER room type environment. Wes just keep doing what you're doing it's amazing and I love watching everything you make but I do have a few suggestions: 1. Make longer videos, I think a lot of people would agree when I say an hour is about the perfect length. 2. Make more videos, you might not think it's interesting but I would love to watch you rebuild that loft thing, or just rearrange the shop while you're talking about it, really just anything you're doing make a video about it. 3. I think people are interested in your videos because of YOU not so much because of what you're doing in them, just keep being yourself. 4. When you're editing videos leave in the parts where something doesn't go right or you get really frustrated, it adds a real world touch.

Two things, possibly already mentioned, but in my words: 1) Don’t worry about being more chatty and longwinded occasionally; channels like yours thrive, in part, because we like hanging out with you! Even for those of us that are technical (and/or living with Asperger’s) the personal connection matters! 2) Whether or not someone is consciously aware of or can identify “good editing” or “high production values,” the simple fact is that all people everywhere are drawn to excellence-it’s as natural as gravity… that said, we’re not here to watch feature films, and excellence can manifest in lots of different ways. Just keep doing exactly what you are doing now. Your views scatter because your content is so broad. Do not let it concern you - it is simply providing you with a broader audience. This is also why your older videos may experience "revivals" - even though you perhaps diagnose some farm equipment, that do not interest me per say, but the way you convey information and explains the processes is what keeps us to the screen. So Keep doing what you are doing - make videos YOU would want to watch. We love them. :D

But I like candid oops I messed up and that ain’t good. 15-20 min videos are great Keep it up and don’t burn yourself out.

I think what the issue is that's the majority of people watching RU-vidr under 25 years old, have never really had to work on anything because in this day and age everybody being brought up has helicopter parents that do everything for them , this creates little interest in technical or blue collar topics thus they want to see cool things they just don't care how they work . I've been watching your videos since you had the roll-off flat bed where you were hauling around CNC machine equipment , there's only four or five people I watch on a regular basis and your channel is one of them , certainly the best mechanic RU-vidr I've ever watched . I've been working on my own personal vehicles for 37 years now and I learn stuff from you all the time.

Wes and Diesel Creek are my favorite channels, 2 totally different methodologies but both entertaining, and techs are always interested in shop improvements, great channel, keep up the good work.

Hey Wes , put me in the long video crowd. I like the videos you put out just the way they are, you are who you are " Wes" and we watch your videos to see you and what you do . What is your other channel`s name.

Content wise, personally if you film it I will watch it. Auto repairs, heavy machinery, shop renovations/improvements, DIY builds, etc. Your content seems to hit on all cylinders, not just one specific genre and I think that’s what keeps me coming back. Having your sense of snarky humor with the long sighs for sure help on the entertainment front. I know the algorithm plays a large part on content, but don’t let it change who you are as a person. Keep up the great work Wes. Hope you, Mrs.Wes, your son, and Max have a Happy New Year

Wes, I found your channel during Covid. Best channel out there. You’re into just about everything that I find interesting. Keep doing what you do. I watch every Sunday no matter what you’re working on. Thanks!

I have mostly stayed dedicated to your channel since my algorithm found it a few months ago. I’ve grown tired of all the RU-vid garbage where someone digs crap out of a forest, gets it running, but doesn’t fix it. I like how you stick with projects and actually fix things. Especially enjoy the multi-part projects like the back-hoe or skid steer. I really hope you don’t become a will-it-run channel!

I myself do not want you to change. I have loved your channel ever since I found you. You're family man, you have an awesome dog. What more can you get? You get a little technical, that's OKI love it. You think outside of the box sometimes that's even better. Please stay the way you are. 😊 Please absolutely don't script what you do. I'm ready to lose some channels because you can tell they're scripted

Not only scripted, but half the video is pitching some grossly overpriced product that is a sponsor for the video. If I want that, I'll watch QVC or HSN, and I don't watch them ever!!

Well Wes, I have a broken brain myself, so I won't be much help, but I'll give my two cents. When it comes down to it, I'm going to watch whatever you do. You are a smart, interesting, handy and funny guy, all qualities of a good RU-vid channel in my opinion. Which is why you are one of my favorite channels. Diesel Creek is another, for some of the same reasons. What I prefer to see the most from you are the diagnose and repair videos. Which tie to teaching things within the repair. I have learned more about simple things like splicing wires properly for example from your channel. The logging robot really has my interest, because if it is pushing your knowledge it is far beyond what most of us could ever dream of fixing, let alone building remote controls, etc... so I hope to learn a lot from that. I guess I'm a lot like you, I like watching things I learn from. I do not like super long videos though, break them into shorter ones in a series. I know it all comes out the same in the end, but having time to watch three 20 min video is much easier than an hour long one. I don't care for your build videos as much, and I'm honestly not even sure why. Maybe because there are other weld and fab videos out there, I prefer the "fix and figure out why" Wes videos more? I like shop infrastructure videos, especially how others organize and make their shop efficient. I would like to see more tool repair videos like you did in the old days, but I understand you have gotten away from that. Again because I was learning things I didn't know. When it comes right down to it, do what makes YOU happy. Be yourself. Your videos show when you are having a good time (or such a bad time it is good) and you are just being yourself. Wes is what we come here for. The random content is good. keeps us guessing. I don't know how that helps or hurts the algorithm, but doing the same thing all the time gets boring. You do a good job of keeping to the point, I have a hard time with that because life is not to the point, it is filled with twists and turns and side projects, and side tracks, and, well you get the idea. Keep it up, whatever you are doing, it is working, and I say it is working well. Happy New Year, I hope 2024 is a good one for you!

Wes…What I like most about your channel is the Variety. Tractors, Cars, Trucks, and Skidders. Projects, Will it run, Repairs, Diagnostics, etc. I like the whole gambit. I first called your channel “What is Wes Workin on”. What I would like to see more of is Interactive. I realize you can not comment back on every comment we write. But I like to see exchange. Is it possible to do a diagnostic live with input from the peanut gallery? Bad Chad does live with little editing, my wife asks how can you watch 30 minutes of grinding. I love Eric’s repairs, but how many brake jobs can you watch. Diesel Creek is great for the will it run Diesel side. NNKH is more on the will it run Gasoline. Pine Hollow is full of thought and always has a Part 1, 2,… Also something I think we all enjoy is to see the family. Your wife, son, dog, and dad. Keep up the good work and we will keep Watching Wes Work.

As for editing, I enjoy the way "I do cars", "Cutting Edge Engineering" and "Sarah-N-Tuned" do their editing. They seem to know just when to speed things up and what to keep and good lengths. I also enjoy curling up and watching a "Mustie1" video for over 1.5 hours sometimes. He really makes you feel like you are there working with him. Diesel Creek and Scrappy Industries do well too.

I am not a fan of Mustie1. Unlike Wes, he stubbornly refuses to do any internet search prior to working on stuff. Some might find that charming, I find it annoying.

Two things: One. Concerning building a story. Some channels excel at this, but they end up feeling scripted. Two. I love the hit or miss with repair and diagnostic videos. I always learn something and they feel genuine. Sometimes it's a complicated problem, and sometimes it isn't. Real life works that way, and your videos reflect that. Final note: Those of us who work with our hands enjoy watching someone else work. It's cathartic when you see someone you respect run into roadblocks, because we all run into roadblocks. You aren't alone, and neither are we so long as you keep making videos for us to watch. Best of luck in the new year and keep 'em coming.

I came to the channel to Watch Wes Work, and that’s what I’m still here for. I learn a boatload from watching you fix stuff and explaining what you do and more importantly why. Most of us watching are not supermechanics ourselves, so we love content that we grasp the concept of, but where the abilities is just beyond our own. That way we learn and further our own abilities without feeling left behind.

I think your formula is spot-on - I don't think you need to change anything. I always watch them and I just about always learn something new (or better). Not a fan of will-it-runs these days. They used to be good back when they were genuine but most nowadays seem to be completely scripted and inevitable. Keep on doing what you're doing.

Wes you have three key objectives: work that rolls in that needs fixing for money; outstanding projects on a ‘to do’ list; and personal intellectual interest. To enable those three objectives you need to remodel your work environment to make life easier and so the mezzanine office is a priority. Decide which of the fork lifts/back hoe loaders etc are needed to assist in this rebuild and fix them. Divide the outstanding projects into ‘customers’ (grain auger, back hoe loader etc), ‘prospective sales’ (the tractor sans cylinder head, Goldwing motor cycles etc) and personal (F350 truck). Alternate between these projects and fresh work that rolls in. Decluttering the yard will help declutter your mind to allow you the freedom to pursue your personal interests and enjoy a family life. Life is short. Have a great 2024.
