What Happened To Atomic Amps?

@@BenFletcherGuitar they where announcing them back in stock and had Black Friday offers. But maybe they only sell them directly from their own website now?

@@trondulseth Yeh I was thinking that. They wouldn't have to guarantee a certain amount of stock that way. Probably not a bad idea. I think you'd sell fewer products over-all, but your overheads would be less too.

Yes. I've been using the one in this video right up until now, but after 140 gigs a year for however many years I've used it, I seem to have broken the power input and it's creating a bunch of issues. Real pity, because I still enjoy the sound and wouldn't change if I didn't have to. The Tonocracy software is the new direction for Atomic. I would imagine hardware might follow, but Tonex are at the forefront of affordable machine modelling right now, so they're gunna have get on it soon otherwise people will be in that ecosystem. I think Atomic also lack the marketing budget to be competitive with the likes of Strymon. It's a pity because the Firebox in my opinion, had the edge over the Iridium, which didn't really do it for me. Thanks for the comment, Ben.

Thank you! The Atomic stuff really is underrated in terms of the sound. I think there were a couple of less than stellar demos on some popular channels early on that did them no favours and people started to look down on them. I still like mine and use it for pretty much 90% of my gigs. Hopefully they'll be back in shops in the future here in the UK. The 12 looks like a beast by the way. Great bit of kit that.

Making crazy sounds is fun! I didn't know that about the DSP, but then I doubt the type of sounds I use would be too much trouble for any modelling platform. I think this particular Atomic product is a really great simple all in one unit and the effect tweak on the version 2 would be a huge bonus. I don't think it would be that useful by itself if you were in to ambient or abstract type stuff, there's just not that many things to mess with. I'm still not really hearing straight up better sounds though, I really like the basic tones in the Amplifirebox. I agree about the EQ, there are plenty of options in there to suit most people, not to mention the ability to load an IR and change the EQ substantially that way.

I'm sure other people are of the same mind and would more likely buy something, when they're sure things like apps etc are likely to be supported for longer. It's a pity my video's like this one (very niche) don't get more reach, because I might have been able to stir up an answer. Have fun with the new toy!

@@ArmandoVegaTV Exactly that. I actually made another video that nobody saw (ha!) about something very similar to this issue, but with an ecological spin on it. Basically saying that we create vast amounts of waste hardware when the software is no longer compatible. Interestingly they're doing machine modelling now (like NAM or Kemper), software based at the moment it seems. They do make great sounding products and I feel like their stuff got a bit over-looked. I can totally understand wanting a bit more flexibility than this though. For me I only need two sounds, clean and dirty, but I pair it with external effects since there's nothing you can do to change the internal settings on a gig. Anyway, good news is they're still around and working on new things.

Interesting. I liked the compact form factor of this model and agree the sounds stand up well. I believe most things are available direct from their website including the new version of this one. I hope they recover, or maybe they're happy with the new business model, it might work better for them? Cheers, Ben.

They're back and they've been developing a software modelling and capture system. It got released about two weeks ago. It's called Tonocracy. I haven't checked it out yet.

I also know very little about a great many things, but Google usually has the answer! The Aviator looks killer. I like the simplicity. Particularly that they've assigned an input for each of the voicings. That's a neat way of doing it and very much plays in to that video I made the other week about not needing an app for the hardware. Also like the top mounted effects loop. I wish more companies did that, it just makes sense. Like you said, solid state makes more sense if you're not playing loud too, because frankly unless you use some kind of attenuator, valve has to be at a pretty unreasonable volume before it starts to soften up a bit. I've got my valve amp on ebay right now, chancing it with the price a bit, but hoping to buy an extra few minutes electricity with it...haha!

@@BenFletcherGuitar Also picked up a "Y cable adapter" so I can mix the three voices. Although I have only tried that once, I am living on the "tweed" voice right now. Using the gain & limiter knobs in conjunction to control rasp/grit is great too. As i said, Chuffed 😊 Not even felt the need to put a pedal into it, just guitar, lead, amp, joy 😊

@@graemero5532 Manual amp blending, that's a neat feature. I wonder if there's a way you could use a volume pedal or something to alter how much of each amp you wanted blended? That could be interesting. I could live without lots of things, but delay...I don't know. I went cold turkey on compression a year or so ago and I don't think I could go through that hell again!
