Best videos about travelling to Thailand I've seen so far. Really honest- not dressed up to make a place seem better than it is. Your honesty makes me want to visit this island more than some flashy video would. We are seeing the island beginning of January 2023 so hopefully there will be more people around

We're getting ready to head to Koh Lipe in a couple weeks - we live in Chiang Mai, and escaped to Ao Nang/Krabi for smoke season. We've lived in SE Asia for 12 years now, and have been to many Thai islands, but never to Koh Lipe. What I appreciate the most about your video is the lack of hype - just a chill, relaxed walk around the island showing the reality of it. Thanks! I imagine a lot's changed in the past year, so we'll see how things are now, in March, 2023.

i was in koh lipe by the time of new year 2019 and it was amazing. can‘t lie that it was one of the greatest times in my life. so beautiful. the beach and definitely all the people there are amazing. what a peaceful loving place on earth.

I visited and stayed in kohl’s lime for the first time in 2004 , and it was a pure jewel. A few resorts only, no road, the most beautiful beach for me was at the north of the island, sea water amazing and when you were standing in the sea on the shoreline plenty of colorful fishes would play around your ankles. A few meters from the beach, in the sea sea anemones were swarming with plenty of clown fishes playing around… To go from papaya beach to the three other ones you had to take a long boat or cross the island by a footpath through the jungle where you could see monkeys … We came back almost every two years to find this paradise more and more invaded by resorts, cemented roads, the chaolay original population being concentrated in a small village as the island had been purchased by very rich Thais who sent people from the mainland to work during peak seasons. My last trip was in 2013 and I was horrified to see what could become a gem of an island trough exploitation for mass tourism. No more jungle, or so little left, no more corals and fishes close to the beaches, and an enormous mountain of trash in the middle, sort of landfill tras bags waiting to be carried away by boat I guess (and hoped)So when I see this video I know I won’t ever go back to Lipe. For twenty two years I have been traveling to Thailand and visited almost all of the islands and witnessed the same for everyone’s more or less… A very few places exist still, not destroyed but I would not give away those few paradise’s left. Nevertheless Thaïlande remains one of my favorite places on earth.

I came here to say exactly this. I was on Lipe in 2002. It was sand paths between the beaches. There was a small bamboo hut bar with 5 seats at the bar in the middle of the island on one of the walking paths. No concrete anywhere, no motorcycles. I remember the Chao Lay villiage and the people there. I stayed on Pataya Beach on the left hand side in one of the elevated huts, the roof was blue, they look like they have also been replaced. This videos reminds me of the people from the book "The Beach" and how they hated the changes happening on Ko Panyang. This is a sad but inevitible day.

Same experience. I was there first time in 2000, and again in 2001, 2002, 2003. It is so sad to see how it became. It was such a paradise, we were very lucky to enjoy it as it was!

I have been at Koh Lipe 2 times, last was 2 years ago and then I stayed at Mountain resort for 7 days. I'll be back there next year in February 2023. I love Koh Lipe.

We travelled to Koh Lipi, about 2 1/2 years ago and loved it. We stayed on sunrise beach and it was pretty quiet then, but great for a few days. Walking Street was very quiet also, but fun in the evening.

I have been a few times. Looks so quiet but actually quiet is ok for me . Hope to get back again one day. Thanks for a great video and update. Definitely my favourite island along with koh samet. Mountain resort is awesome. Lots of good places all over the island . Prices really up since 2010. No more 50 baht beers ...

I have been to Koh Lipe twice - once on a day trip from Langkawi in Jan 2017 and then 3 nights in Feb 2018. I hope the island redeem itself to its former glory that it once was

@@s.s.642 Depending on what passport you have. Remember that I did the Langkawi to Koh Lipe trip in one day tour so you will need your passport and you will normally get a tourist visa (depending on your passport)

been here 4 times, its shocking, walking street used to be packed with every shop open, a lot of french/Italian/Europeans used to work at all the dive shops as well, all the thai islands have been very hard hit

Thank you for the video! We were there in 2019 when world started to shut down, we left on the last boat out before Thailand close the country. So sad the island still looks just like the day we left. We are going back in 2023 (to finish our vacation that was cut short last time), we hope business will pick back up for the sake of people who live on the island.

Having just arrived in Thailand BKK Flight costs from the UK have doubled No quarantine this trip Visa ok for 2 months But having travelled up to the Laos border Udon Thani Prices have increased everywhere All services have been hit over the last two years by the COVID pandemic But worth the trip We will head to the coast next month ✌🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌈🌈🙏🙏

I was there in February 2020 and it was very busy with tourists, as you said, prices were double for everything, but it was my favourite place in Thailand too. I got the ferry to Langkawi from there. I hope everything opens up soon.

Were there in 2012 and it was a very chill place with a lot of nice divingsites. There were not so many big resorts back then, but it seems to be nice eventhough a lot of have changed. Nice people, nice memories.

2011 and 2013 both time by private sailing catamaran. It's certainly changed a lot since... Over developing as most every tourist destination becomes. What resort did you stay at? We might try to go end of March though with monsoon season beginning nice weather could be an issue. I agree that having few tourist around is a blessing for us but hard in the locals, mind you I doubt many locals own businesses on Lipe. When I was there I made enquiries as I had just sold my restaurant and bungalow business on Rawai Beach Phuket. 2011 The prices were high and most locals had sold there land to foreigners and Thais from the mainland. The island certainly is a beautiful spot in Thailand 💗🇹🇭

The place will be alive once Malaysian border open, hopefully next month in March 2022. The island is very nice for relaxing and unspoiled nature surroundings.

Great video , love your laid back style, i am planning a trip to thailand for december/jan/feb, i want to go to phi phi/koh tao/koh samui/koh lipe/koh lanta, maybe KPY, (not sure about it as ive watched videos on KPY and not really my scene),. i,m 68 y/o with long term thai g/f, . like you we prefer piece and quiet ,.thanks.

I went to Kho Lipe for the first time in 2003, it was completely different at the time, less construction, less resort, and no walking street ... a kind of village atmosphere

@@ridewithgabi yes they deforested part of the island .... before the walking street was only a path with a few shops and restaurants, if you have the opportunity go to Art Garden at Mr. Gee's, next to the Buddhist temple

Hi Gabi, We've been back in the UK now for 5 weeks. Koh Lipe was in the middle of our hols around January the 4-11th. It was quite a bit busier than what your showing and the indian restaurant where we'd been before on previous visits closed the day after and sad to see its up for sale. It must be so hard for the islanders and peoples lively-hoods to maintain and to survive. Two years ago on pataya bay the sunrise beach there were beautiful trees where the now new bungalows you showed are. A lot of people were upset at what has been done at the expense of bars and money and can never be replace which was a lovely unique paradise lost forever. If you get a chance though visit the beautiful paradise and snorkelling haven that is Adang just 10 minutes across the water from Sunrise beach.

Beautiful 😍…. What happened is half the world population didn’t get vaccinated that why the tourism was minute , now you can see a big difference since the restrictions was abolished 🤷🏽‍♀️.

i am on Koh Lipe now (march 25) but going back to the mainland today just don't understand how motor bike taxi can charge THB100 per way when did you visit Koh Lipe? there are ton of tourists on the island now

Yessss don’t go back or your heart would break ! If you like noise, a lot of people music everywhere, shopping it is a great place. If you like nature, space and silence it might not be the best choice.

We sailed our 32 foot Ketch off this island in 2017. The kids loved it and amazing sunsets. Sadly the Thai Junta is screwing both it's people and foreign tourists.

@@nicolelouis8968 I have many friends there, one worked as travel agent, no work. The place she works now is closed due to covid. Another friend volunteer's with the government, testing people for covid, and he said today it is rising again. He owns a massage shop, no work for 2 years..you may want to research 🙏

@@laurasipari8604 Yes sadly many, many places have shut down for sure. But living here, I haven't met or heard anyone sick except having an after effect from the vaccines. Since the roll out I have certainly heard more ambulance sirens than ever before. Looks like it's a good excuse to take a trip down South, if it's so.

@@nicolelouis8968 , I'm only going by pictures I see, I can send you a picture of him in hassmat suit, everyday. A lot of people are not vaccinated there, old & young. Yes, has been closed, and that's what I say about video. I like her videos, but not depicting of what is happening. My brother has been in Bangkok for 30 years, and that hasn't bounced back either. 🙏
