Here's an excerpt from an interview with Al Lowe in which he explains the story behind Leisure Suit Larry 4 ("The Case of the Missing Floppies"). Enjoy!
I will watch every Al Lowe interview a dozen times, because of how great of a storyteller he is. His personality is amazing. I would've loved to have someone like him as a friend or a co-worker. Sierra is gone, but not the memories of the magic years where there was nothing like what they produced.
This man is a legend. If someone were to ever Let's Play's all the LSL games and Al Lowe was to co-commentate, that would be a kickstarter worthy VOD purchase.
Al, do 4 - the floppies found. Passionate Patti hid them lol. It should be old school VGA with typing console. No game has ever done an interquel. You got enough fans that would love this.
Ever since I was a kid I always wondered what happened to Larry 4, now I know! Looking back maybe it wasn't appropriate for my parents to let me play Larry games at 5 years old lol. I didn't get half the jokes until I played them years later, and I used to have to have my dad answer the age verification questions for me.
Huh! I was told by a friend backn in the 90s that Al had said after lsl3 that he'd never make an lsl4 and that's why he went on to make lsl5 instead. Nice to hear the truth from the horse's mouth :)
So that's the real reason why. All the kids, BBS forums and early Internet forums to spread so many rumors about LSL4. Like the game was too pornographic and dirty so it had to be scrapped but LSL5 was already in development so they just skipped over it. Or that the floppies really did go missing, but since LSL5 was already in development, they didn't bother go back to LSL4. Now that I think of it, all the rumors were always: "(insert rumor here)... but LSL5 was already halfway done so they just continued with 5 and gave up on 4" Great for advertisement though! I mean this was before Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II Shen-Long rumors!!!
So it's like how Star Wars starts at episode 4 and ends at 6. We have to use our imaginations about what might have happened before or after that, because those movies were just never made. Got it? NEVER. MADE.
