What Happened to Marriage?

This young woman seems to have sadness in her eyes as she asks "do men want to get married anymore?"
I think we all feel how badly relationships have degraded, but no one really understands why. The answers are in the changes we made to what used to work. That's called "hubris," - when you believe that you know better than thousands of years of tradition and that your best guess is going to yield better results.
We now live in a state of decay, declining quality of life, and cultural and social collapse, and it's because we were fooled - once again - into thinking that we could change all the rules to be more convenient and empowering and we wouldn't lose anything. In reality, laws, culture, technology, and all forms of change to our systems are like a wish made on a monkey's paw - you might get what you want, but you might not like what it costs.
(I tried making my own background music for this. It'll get better over time)

My younger brother and I are trust fund kids. He married his girlfriend while going to med school. After the marriage she changed completely. He was doing his residency and didn't want to deal with it anymore. Filed for divorce, she happily declared she was going to take everything we owned. Reverse uno card. Trust funds are not marital assets, he was a broke med school student and she got nothing.

@FC-xc3zy
@FC-xc3zy 7 месяцев назад
@@LangChainAI maybe broke by the ex greedy standards. Most trust funds pay out a small percent when the heir accomplishes goals or milestones in the heir's life and saves the rest for retirement. . Some only pay the basics to motivate the heirs to find jobs and not depend pon the fund for daily expenses . Some might pay rent , school expenses, etc and pay out a lump sum after the child graduates, retires or becomes old. Most retain most of the funds for the next generations. Almost all exclude the partners of the heirs. Some stop paying out as soon as the child marries. This prevents greedy spouses from claiming any of the funds.

As someone who got married, I can tell young men: Don’t. Just don’t. Improve as if you planned to, invest in making yourself better, get into difficult and challenging relationships, be a good potential partner, but when it comes to committing legally because you’re sure you found “the one”, don’t. She’s not the one, she’s not special, and the complacency of marriage will show it to you. And you’ll only see it clearly AFTER you’ve invested yourself in the marriage, and you trust her. Don’t. Just fucking DON’T.

Also women: "where have all thr good guys gone??? How come no one wants to date anymore" But specifically on DEI, it has been a fkn existential bane to having a stable work/job pathway for most people and it has caused more harm than not. Btw the problems for women in school and work that equity initiatives were supposed to "correct" don't even exist anymore. Now it's an overcorrection that only serves to suppress men. I used to work at a call center for a very large brokerage firm and one time I got a call from a woman in her late 50’s that was going through a divorce and wanted to check on the process of the paperwork. I pulled up her information on my computer to check her QDRO (divorce account of her ex husbands retirement) and it turns out she had THREE separate QDRO accounts from THREE separate marriages that gave her a net worth of 1 million dollars combined between them. I just tell women this: would you sing a pre-nup that states that if you get divorced for any reason, you have to pay spousal support, you loose half of you stuff, and if you have kids, he gets custody and child support that he can spend on what ever he wants, so you have to work all week and take care of the kids on the weekend, while she "takes care" of them during the week while they are in school, while living in a house you have to pay for? If you think that's a bad idea, what your really saying is "I don't want to treated like a man".

Women are so upset that men don't want to get married but if you turned the tables then the marriage rate would become zero starting tomorrow. This is literally my life. I am in the middle of a divorce because my wife got a bit more excitement from some sneaky-fucker at her job, despite me having been there through all the mental bullshit she went through, all the hard times, her extreme anxiety, I make 3 times more than she does... none of that matters when something a bit shinier in the moment comes through. She isn't taking my money, but we had a house that I am losing after putting in a whole lot of work on it, for our family after we moved to a place far away from everyone I knew so we could be closer to her folks (who I do actually care for)... and she could start living her best single life. I didn't have to pay a cent to them, but I did make sure to document for the future (just in case) and gave them all her phone number, address and place of work. Even helped a Private Investigator track her down for out of state check fraud. She had creditors calling her at work, the whole deal. Was great. Unfortunately, my case was an outlier. When we were married, I had no money-- I was flat broke paying all the normal bills. Regarding the "song" you featured, this is a major factor. I am an old man. Here is how life really works. The analogy of the campfire. When you first start a campfire, you use a lot of thin dry wood as "kindling". It burns very fast and very bright. It is exciting! But then, if you let it burn down the main firewood starts to burn slowly. This isn't as exciting but it will burn a long time and provide a lot of warmth and a steady glow. This is how love is. Yeah, in the beginning is the "honeymoon" phase and you can't keep your hands off each other. But if you let it, this will lead to a slow steady burn that sustains you. These women want the honeymoon phase to last forever. It can't. It won't. So then they seek to start another fire with someone else. Rinse and repeat. This is not sustainable. Modern women do not know how to love.

Modern marriage for men is akin to buying a car from a dealer, and agreeing that the dealer can take the car back any time he wants, for whatever reason he wants, with no refund. Not only that, but you have to PAY him additional money for taking it back. And she really needs to ask if men still want to get married?

You should force her to either take full custody of the kids or you get full custody of the kids. This way she doesn't have a bargaining chip to hold over you. And it's better for the kids without having parents trying to use them to be petty with the other. If she gets full custody then she wont be able to live out her single fantasy. If you get full custody then she won't get to see her kids and she might even have to pay child support. I know it might seem harsh but there's nothing worse than split custody.
@bradberkely7448
@bradberkely7448 8 месяцев назад
To add from an article about the subject: " "Son’s wife is definitely going to divorce him. Said they could do 50/50 custody. Son taking Vox’s advice, says he’s not going to play the custody game and argue over every little life decision with her. If she wants her “freedom,” he wants full custody, if she won’t give it to him, then she can have full custody and responsibility for the two kids 24/7/365. Says she was shocked to hear it, thinking she was going to have a nice set up. Says she’ll take full custody then. I think she thinks he’s bluffing. My wife is aghast that he’s taken this position, but I agree it’s the right course. His wife can’t manage without him pitching in considerably. No way she’s going to do it without him in the picture helping out, working full time, and trapped at home every night as the kids sleep. She has no local support network. Even if she goes through with taking full custody, I can’t see her keeping it." It’s a brutal and difficult decision, but it is the right one in the situation of a wife-driven divorce. Given the way the legal deck is stacked against men in the USA, she will have de facto full custody regardless of what the court-ordered custody structure is, only she will also have effective practical control of him as well. This all-or-nothing approach leaves him a mostly free agent who has room to operate when she slips up somehow or tires of bearing the sole burden of single parenthood, as she probably will. A positive outcome is absolutely not guaranteed, but the probability of one is in his favor given what is known of her character. The fact that she was shocked is good. It means she never even contemplated what is now the most likely outcome. And the possibility of turning all the responsibility for the children over to her ex-husband is going to grow more and more tempting to her over time, especially when she wants to pursue men who will be actively dissuaded by her having children. "Son’s wife definitely is not getting it. She made a list of what she wants in the mediation agreement. After listing several household items, she included “100% legal and physical custody” of the children. She then went on to list that visitation will be decided at the beginning of each month, with her getting at least one weekend with the girls. My son is resetting her expectations that she will have them every weekend, all weekend, and every evening as well." Notice the wife’s incoherent desires and her inability to understand what 100-percent custody means. It’s simply not wise to base one’s strategy on such a creature’s ability to recognize, let alone be reasonable about, the best interests of the children. It may sound callous and counterintuitive, but the observable fact is that in certain situations, the best way a man can protect his children is by demonstrating that he is willing to walk away from them. "

The passport bros simply benefit from being considered "rich" just for being from the West, that's it. They're not getting different women but different treatment based out of a perception that they're loaded. @@hoe_math Hey um, just out of curiosity, why don't you ever bring up the suggestion of just dating outside western society? Yes western society is a fêmíníšť hëll hole nowadays and is completely collapsing, but other countries in Asia, eastern europe and South America don't seem to be as bad. My father got married to a woman in Asia and they've been happily married for 12 years. He was constantly getting divorced and having no luck on dating websites, pen pals, before that, I had no idea it was still that bad in the 2000s. What's the point of trying to date western women when you already know what the outcome is, you already know they're indoctrinated and they're essentially all nihilistic, conceded, sociopathic, dopamine & serotonin chasing addicts. Why bother dealing with all that when you can just date girls from more traditional societies and not even have to worry (as much) about losing 50% of your assets, getting cheated on, manipulated, etc? Albeit there are some caveats like language difference, culture differences, and things that take time to adjust to and get around. But all in all, I feel 90% of women in western society are unsalvageable and are only good for hook ups and OF nowadays, trying to marry them is like trying to turn a free falling plane back up with only 500 feet of altitude left. I can't see why any guy would even bother, when there are much better traditional societies and cultures out there, with actual normal people who aren't mentally ill. I learned recently that I live in a "one party divorce" state, which basically means that if one partner wants out, they just get the paperwork, serve it, and the other partner gets no say. I found out because I heard through the grapevine of a friend of a friend who, at 24, has left her (second) husband who is extremely wealthy (especially in the context of where we live), gave her everything she wanted, was a nice and kind person (well-liked in the extended friend-group), and supported her through many issues. Her reasoning was "I have decided that I might want kids in the future, and he is ugly so I don't want ugly kids." She is not at all attractive herself (Did I write that? I meant she's a 10). The guy is admittedly average at best, but could probably be better looking than her if he lost weight and got fit. He even pleaded with her to go to couple's therapy first, and then if she was so sure she could leave. Was at a friend's baby shower recently, and this girl was there. Currently complaining with other women about how she isn't getting any good matches on OLD, and that she doesn't understand why. She also filters any potential men by their horoscope and excludes the ones the stars say she's incompatible with I guess. Logic dictates that she's not gonna have a good time, and at least the rich ex-husband will likely be able to find someone.

It might be true about most women but when I was a young girl I realized I could love just about anybody. I saw it was the commitment that made relationships special, not the emotions. I think when women realize this about themselves they instead get excited about all the conquests before them, it thrills them to feel powerful over men. Possibly. 11 years of marriage and I cannot imagine life without my sweet husband who is as kind and genuine as ever. He has grown so much more into his full potential and has supported me on my journey to reach mine as well. This society did nothing to encourage my decisions. I feel a bit isolated at times, honestly, but would rather feel a little lonely sometimes than join their delusions and foolishness.

... Now that you mention it, that's right. We do tend to love basically anything that we spend time with, even on abusive relationships; that's how empathy works, a mechanism made precisely to make family bonds stronger, and that feeling Is just a way of justifying making a deep bond. Once that spark ends, the follow up should be asking yourself "Am I fine being with this person?" instead of "This isn't working. NEXT.", because being confortable with the other without arguing Is fine, life is too long to be only emotion-driven.

I found out yesterday that one of my extended family members is separating and likely divorcing her husband after something like a decade of marriage because she wants to have sex with other people. I’ve seen it coming. Twice in the past year at a family gathering I’ve heard her talking with her friends about how, “humans aren’t meant for monogamy.” And how unnatural it is to be monogamous. It’s been an open secret that she’s made him go on swinging vacations with other couples and has gone on “girls trips” to Italy and Spain. Where she had the absolute gall to post pictures on Facebook of her posing with her hunky “guide.” They have two little girls that are just about the most bright, sweet, wonderful little girls you can imagine. And she is prepared to ruin their family and futures just to get her rocks off. She’s claiming that he hasn’t “been there for her emotionally.” But providing a crazy amount of money to afford her lavish lifestyle and tending to their daughters while she’s gallivanting across Europe on what was quite obviously a sexual tourism expedition (admittedly I don’t know that for sure but it feels obvious), that all wasn’t enough. And what’s worse is that he’s reaching out to her family for help to talk her out of it and from what I understand they’ve all told him to man up or that they have to support her because she’s their sister. It makes be physically sick and I had to calm myself down when I found out. I got divorced in the past year. It hurt like hell even without any children. But now I’m thankful that my exwife at least didn’t pull anything like this. This guy and I aren’t close and he’s not wanting to talk to me about it for obvious reasons. But it’s unlikely I’ll ever be friendly with her again. And now I’m left to wonder: are those two sweet, smart, adorable little girls doomed to grow up and be like their mother? Or might they learn the lesson of what selfishness does to the people around you? I don’t know.

It's pretty wild that we fight tirelessly generation after generation for a higher standard of living. As a white, male, 3.5GPA, non-religious, with parents who happen to be middle class, I didn't qualify for a single scholarship out of a couple hundred. There were tons of scholarships for women and nonwhites, even if middle-class or with lower GPAs. That was TWENTY years ago. At least a whole generation of men have been constrained and repressed. My take is that a lot of women just don't understand men. My personal story is that my ex who i was with for 6 years, cheated on me, and i found out without her telling me. I kicked her out, since we weren't married (thank God), and to this day she's trying to get me to take her back. One of the big things I've noticed is how she talks about her cheating, the whole "i didn't love him, it was just sex", illustrates a fundamental lack of understanding of male sociology. When i tell other guys about it, they obviously get that there's no way i should take her back, but when i talk to women, they understand that it's bad, but don't get the degree of the betrayal. I think in general men in our society are taught what woman want, but woman aren't taught what men want, and are surprised when they run into the differences.

They don't get the degree of betrayal as you call it bc it's not about themselves. That, and the "empathy gap". @@jasonwismer2670 Men and women cheat DIFFERENTLY. If a man has sex with some random woman, he tends to NOT have feelings. Unless the man is a Chad-Rone, he is cheating because his sex life is dead or he has to be a "good wittle dancing monkey" for some DUTY sex. He will still provide and protect his wife. He will still want to give his wife attention. If the mistress was ran over by a bus, he would think "Aww, no more sex." When women cheat, they usually catch feelings or emotional attachment with the guy. They have grown tired of her husband. They don't respect their husband. Women tend to cheat to leave. I remember being in third or fourth grade, and this kid from another class coming over to my group of friends, which was a mixture of boys and girls, and trying to kiss one of the girls, who didn't like it. Me and a group of the boys all got together and made him leave. I don't think we even touched him, but we got together as a crowd and he fell backward. The kid had a learning disability, and the principal showed up to my classroom to pull me and the other boy in my class out. She told us we were "bullies" and behaving "like a gang," and tore into us. She had the meanest, angriest look I'd ever seen on an adult, and she didn't want to hear anything from us about our side of the story. For the rest of the year, I had to leave class to attend an "anti-bullying committee" made up of students as punishment. Years later I became an elementary school teacher, and I tried to treat my students with the respect and compassion that hadn't been shown to me.

The scholarships part is spot on. When I was studying there were scholarships for the top students that maintained A+ or the scholarship became a compound interest loan or scholarships for those that were female. Women would apply for classes in STEM, apply for the STEM scholarships attend 1 class and cancel the class after they got the scholarship which was usually within the class cancelation period of two weeks. Head hunters and companies would come to lectures looking for the brightest, women and offer them jobs and their education paid for if they joined the company. They were all smart enough to take the offers, most of the guys who graduated were without work in their STEM fields for years because companies also wanted 3-5 years experience from male graduates. It wasn't much better in the workplace, guys get all the tough jobs and are expected to work without pay whenever their female managers demanded it or face losing their job. If you complain it goes to a female HR team who tell you to suck it up.

Start ignoring her and working/going out at times with the kids and at times alone. It seems antithetical to do so, and it might seem like you're running a risk of losing but you're already on the razors edge it seems. Switch up your diet, drop the alcohol and start going out not with the boys but by yourself or the kids, go hiking, play some sports. When she asks and gets uppity, just leave. Start doing things by yourself, when she asks for help with small things assess the situation first before helping then her without saying a word and leave. Larger "helps" require more distance and "pondering" Most importantly, start logging your TIME. Where you went, people you meet, gym time etc. You'll realize how much time you're wasting either doing trivial tasks, or waiting beck and call for a woman who doesn't love you. Make it seem like you're into the game already and have options and that your kids are on board, but always arrive back ON TIME (Women love the "he's coming home late so I assumed he was cheating." route at court). She'll either back down or if she decides to go for the kill in 6-8 months you're already set up for living a new minimalist life.

I've come to the conclusion that there are people that believe in commitment and monogamy, colaboration, compromise, and working through problems....and then there are people that see relationships as disposable, people as replaceable, and that are quick to jump ship when there is a shiny new object or they are unhappy. It’s really easy actually. Watch how they act when they do something wrong. A sincere apology includes admitting wrongdoing, trying to understand how they caused pain, communicating to create a solution together, implementing that solution, and regular check ups on how that solution is working, along with creating a new solution, if the first one did not create measurable progress. Most women I have met will not admit to wrongdoing. The ones that say sorry never implement a solution. I’m 37 and have yet to find a woman willing to go to through all of that *with anyone*. Unfortunately, this kind of conflict resolution is not optional for a healthy relationship. What I am saying is just textbook stuff you can hear from any psychologist on how to have a healthy relationship. If you are looking for a that in 2024, you are screwed. It sounds like they're indirectly telling you that you aren't going to get money from them for the house they aren't living in anymore and the ownership of that house was (potentially) awarded in the divorce to the ex-wife. There's nothing you can really do that can force that person to pay for something they no longer want to. You work for a bank, not child support. You can't threaten them with jail for failure to pay, just damage to their credit score; which in those kinds of situations tends not to be cared about because that credit score is already being damaged in numerous other ways. All you can do is one or more of the following: > inform them, and the ex-wife, that if it is the case that ownership of the house was awarded to the wife, that they need to file a quit claim deed(if the ex-wife can't afford the mortgage she's likely to refuse, even if a court orders it to be done as a part of the divorce proceedings) > reach out to the ex-wife to try and refinance the mortgage only in their name(they are likely to refuse if they cant afford the mortgage payments, which if its not been getting paid then they likely cant) > proceed onto default and foreclosure. Stop wasting your time and everyone else's by banging your head against a proverbial brick wall trying to accomplish what is indirectly being said won't be happening. Fulfill whatever legal obligations you have in sufficiently notifying involved parties of things, then move the process along.
@saureco
@saureco 8 месяцев назад
You guys aren't seeing the long game. The court demands he keep paying for the house, while only she is allowed to occupy it. So what are his options? Either keep forking over money for something you can't use or stop paying and (she) loses it. If he stops paying (which is what it sounds like is happening if the mortgage company is calling him), the bank seizes the asset and kicks her out. He is strategically choosing to win by losing. What's the damage? His credit score? Yawn. That can recover.

Stay the course, work hard, invest, buy a house, retire early, and live your childhood dreams. My only regrets was not retiring at 40. Most men my age I know are divorced, financially destitute and starting over and probably die working a job they hate. In fact many I know cannot even switch jobs if it means less money and more happiness as the courts will rape them in alimony.

Life is about managing risk . Its all about the risk reward ratio. How good are you at managing those risks and what other resources do you have to draw on? Most people will confess on themselves. That is one tip I can pass along. If you run into the odd sociopath, my condolences but I never fell for the contextual exceptions to bad behavior. If she has enemies and hates people, it will come around to you. Another thing to remember. If you attract women at a certain "level" ,they are disposable to you. Even if you like them, friend zone them. You can get more. You can charm them, and be nice to them , but don't have sex with them. You need to know women and people and the best way to do that is by contrast. Meet a lot of them. Look at what they do, what friends they have and how they resolve issues. Again, only the odd sociopath really hides who they are. Maybe I got lucky, who knows? However ,by that time, I almost knew how my wife would turn out, and its been 20 years. Why was I so forward thinking? Besides having an early relationship based on "she is hot", I saw my brother walk into a disaster anyone should have been able to see coming. I was determined to learn from his mistake. Lastly, there is a social contract. If the social contract is broken by an unreasonable application of justice and ends up to be a "state of war" in Hobbesian terms ...What does she know of what is in the arsenal such that she will understand the benefits of diplomacy?

Will you get cheated on, lose half your stuff, get cheated on and then raise another man's child, or get framed for DV or something and you're not allowed prenups because those get thrown out often because reasons. ROLL THOSE DICE, say the party that has none of the risk.

Hella a lot of co-dependency with the low end of the scales tilting on men

The ground-level of the school sysrem is also infiltrated by liberal women that are getting worse by the year. The gov/unions are her husband and her MO is bringing down the patriarchy, one child at a time

I always recommend everyone read "Dumbing Us Down" by John Gatto. The most eye opening book on the government education monopoly in the USA. Public school is about creating intellectual dependents, people obedient to authority, with provisional self-esteem. It's not structured to create self-motivated and ambitious people. It's all about control.

About your one year theory. I remember listening podcast in which some guy that is expert on attachment theory said that women in a relationship have sex in the first year to bond with their partner, after a year their sex drive switches from mate bonding to mate retention. Basically, after a year they have sex with a guy only if they want to really keep him.

If the guy has a lot of options and women flirting with him, then his sex life’s gonna get explosive

No; it's always currency. Women date up, where "date" is a euphemism for sex and "up" is what she wants. "Bond" is what she wants now, "retain" is what she wants later.

As a girl, this is such bullshit 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Y’all really do make up whatever you want to prove the world exists according to your theories, huh? It’s just so sad. Hint: women have sex because we like it, it’s fun, and if we are attracted to our partner and he is an exciting, fun, nice guy it’s even BETTER! See, solved it for you. You’re welcome.

The concept of marriage as a partnership is part of what’s killed it. You’re not supposed to be partners, you’re supposed to be one. Getting divorced should be like amputating your legs. Under the idea that marriage is a partnership, of course you would leave if you’re unhappy. But you wouldn’t chop off your legs because of it.

I mean yeah, the "until death do us part" isn't suppossed to be something you just say at your weeding, it's a sacred vow sworn in a place of worship before God and men declearing that you would sooner die than leave the other person's side. The modern "vow" is far removed and a sad shadow of it's former self. Once upon a time it meant something damn it.

This sounds a bit insecure and controlling. You should never give up your autonomy, I don’t care what some drummed up legal document says. Unless you’re unable to make decisions for yourself, you should always have the decision to leave an unhappy relationship.

Not really, it's precisely because it's no longer a partnership that it's killed, it has become an incredibly unfair contract of service of men to women which has, given how most people behave currently, zero reasons to be signed. The death of trust and accountability was the death of marriage. Someone not trustworthy and not held accountable is NOT a partner.

Western "marriage" was destroyed the day no-fault divorce INCENTIVIZED and PAYED a vow breaking wife failure to leave for any/no/idiotic reasons. The only idiots now are the NPC feminized beta knee-takers who still submit to indentured servitude as a husbandcel under gynokuk laws.

Wow, this is so accurate it's frightening. I reached a point where I feel quite stable in my life, and now I start doubting I want a woman in it because it's likely to screw-up everything I worked for...

It will screw-up everything you worked for. Think about it like this: make a list of the things that you could lose by getting married. Now make a list of things you gain by getting marrid. Easy answer.
@wuy4
@wuy4 8 месяцев назад
The answer is "no marriage". Cohabitation in a non-common-law-marriage state. If she complains and asks why, just teach her the realities of modern anti-men laws. If she still doesn't understand, she's not the one. Rational mature women know things are screwed too, they will come around and those are your keepers.

@@ShannonBarber78This. Way too many Manosphere gurus tell men to "focus on yourself; build your wealth" but that's bad advice for men who even want to think about getting married at some point, because then you are marrying someone meeting you at the finish line of your journey rather than at the start; a woman like that will never appreciate you for you because she's only getting to experience your best self after you've been through the ups and downs in life. It also means she has nothing to lose and everything to gain by being with someone who has already established himself.

@@Billy-bc8pkI mean you are true and all. But I have to give my own testimony of getting into a relationship while I was still in the process. I ended up expending the energy I had trying to babysit her and keep her alive and I ended up not having the power or energy to pursue my own goals. I held me back from becoming what I wanted to, and at least when you are established you have the time to give attention to women and still be comfortable. We all know most won't stick around without both of those. You aren't even an option with nothing you are invisible.
