Former edge owner has entered the chat: the edge is a piece of trash, but it's a piece of trash everyone should drive once. I didn't have an st one I just had the base model, but 270 hp ain't bad. Yes it's heavy as fuck, yes it's giant. But don't let that fool you it can get up and go and has surprisingly good handling. I honestly reah liked the sts cause I was hoping people would finally do something with the platform, but I understand why they didn't. Who in their right mind would put any money into an edge. That being said my midlife crisis car is going to be an edge stripped down and modded to be a track car. Its a terrible idea and there's basically no aftermarket for the edge, but I want it. I want a 800hp ls swapped edge zipping around around the track so bad
Mazda has just recently trademarked a new "R" logo that could likely be the successor to MazdaSpeed. They've also recently patented a rather fleshed-out rear end of a unibody coupe chassis. And we already know that the SkyActive inline 6 RWD platform is on it's way soooo I personally think the future of Mazda sportiness is looking pretty good😁
@@supermcbrian they has been working in secret, that engine is done, and the new coupe it will come with a rotary hybrid engine. Oficial race driver here for a random scuderia, believe me :)
Same. I don't care how difficult it gets with even quality aftermarket parts I bought one with 33k on the clock for a reason. One of the few cars that I will work around obvious faults just for the character of it.
@@PacoRobbins I just got my fully built ms3 tuned having issues with aux so only made 402 but taking it to Chris singer to get fixed and my ms6 is just sitting has rust but good daily
Remember when Mazda was fun and not another Lexus? I miss those days when their cars were crazy, an easy starting platform for tuning, and earned that zoom zoom
Remember when Lexus and Mazda topped the RELIABILITY charts GLOBALLY - 🌍 🌏 🌎 for the past 3-4 years? Mazda’s current vehicles (Signature/Club trims) are AS FAST as any Mazdaspeeds? Y’all Sleeping 😴
@@nextleveljourney6612 But who cares because they’re sleepy family cars now. If I was complaining about pure power, I’d just get a Tesla. Mazda themselves said they’re pivoting away from sporty cars, and that was the only reason I bought into the brand, not reliability
I own a 2019 Mazda3 AWD and it's far from sleepy. I don't even have a turbo. It just digs in and rips up mountain roads. It's a blast. They are also squarely aiming to compete with BMW, not Lexus. Check their direct press release. Also cite the coming I6.
@@notfoxingaround Aiming to compete with Beamers is not an accomplishment and shows how far from the JDM tuner they’ve fallen. At leat Nissan respects it’s history and knows what it’s fans want in their cars. The Mazda 3 and RX series will always be among the most legendary cars to me, but if my Mazdas ever die, I’d rather buy a Prius than disrespect their legacy with those econofamily trash Mazda is selling now
@@nigelbassett3791 okay. I was under the impression we were talking cars and business policies for continued success. My apologies for stoking an emotional wound.
I like my mazdaspeed, i don’t want to feel like i should sell it for a new one, plus i’m savin up to get her low with some big ol rubbery bois on so like, we chillin
@@DrFumesta FWD plus 276 horse already requires some big ol rubbery bois for traction so like, he's the reason they don't just burn out everywhere and can be taken seriously as a sport compact. The torque steer and wildness is why I wanted one and not a fovus ST or STI.
Mazda sacrificed mazdaspeed so they can sell more cars and thats the sad reality of the modern car market. Hopefully with this toyota partnership they will have the money and rescources to at least continue development of the miata and sprinkle in performance on the side.
@@PabloPhreshcobar which groups are you seeing these in? I'm in most the speed groups and I see one every few days and usually a built and beat or partial build 3's overpriced like the guy with parts last week that wanted $18500. Havent seen a 6 for sale in a while on the fb groups.
We didn't had Mazdaspeed in Europe, those were called as Mazda MPS 3 and MPS 6 (Mazda Performance Series), but same cars. Mazda is lot more than MX5/Miata and RX7... I had 2004 Mazda 6 2.3 gt in pearlescent-yellow, it was great car and looked very good with some nice wheels, never had problems with that car before... rust... Mazdas of that era liked to rot...
My first “first car” buy was ALMOST a Mazdaspeed protege. Gorgeous Orange and everything, from a guy selling his late daughter’s car. I watched it drive away to another owner because I got there just too late. The seller seemed sad I didn’t get it too, he even sent me messages after I had left to apologize even though he did nothing wrong. I think about that experience often. And now I own a slow ass celica
You guys are probably right with how they may not bring back the badge until the skyactiv run is over. I really hope that the end of the Mazda 6 for 2022 is the sign that the rumoured straight 6 RWD sedan is greenlit
i still want a mazdaspeed protege with yellow paint. that was supposed to be my first car but i ended up getting a civic. i still have a deep car lust for them. they're so dope
Can we have a “what happened to Mitsubishi?” How they went from having fun and/or aggressive cars like the lancer, Evo and eclipse to the boring crossovers/SUV’s and mirage they have now?
We covered the Eclipse already but perhaps we should cover it more broadly! Check out that video here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kpMAynT7K-A.html
Alex, If Mazda built a MazdaSpeed RF, MX-5 3, 0R 6. Would you go buy one the next day? That is the same question Ford answered. You all ain't buying them. Talking about how cool they are doesn't pay the bills at Mazda. It pays them at Fitment lol
People would buy them if they were priced accordingly. Thanks to the massive amounts of crossovers and SUVs anything sporty has a massive markup at the dealership. Look at the type R, Golf R and Focus RS. They marked those up to near 60k cad, when the target audience are younger drivers.
@@Amabar I know. But Ford isn't going to be making any more cars. It will be just the Mustang and its Electric counterpart. At least stateside. You can see the death of the manual as well. But Nissan is still providing in that department. It has caused a boom in JDM and Manual cars. Once these were dirt cheap, now the same as a 911Turbo In some cases.
Owning both a Gen 1 and Gen 3 Mazda 3, I can say that even if the Speed division is not present at the moment Mazda is doing a good job when it comes to enjoying the drive of their cars, there is enough power to have some fun in them plus you can't deny that they pretty look good. Plus their new Kodo Design and Soul Red Crystal paint is just superb
Just got my titanium grey 2003.5 MSP with 82k miles. I feel more connected to the MSP than I do with my E90 M3. It's probably one of the best FWD handling cars I've ever driven, easier to heel toe than my M3. I love the car, just wish Mazda did a better job with the "Mazdaspeed" brand. You cant' just slap a turbo into your stock engines without forging anything. It just causes problem for the buyer.
Swear to god 💀 I’ve had my titanium grey .5 for ab half a year and the power plant is by far the weakest part. I’ve been thinking a 2.5 straight neck KLZE swap, what do you think?
We need a new car brand to start production on all these body styles & engines that we like that aren't being manufactured anymore, and newer sport cars. Everything's going electric 😭💀
Nah, is the next fifteen years or so I’ll bet we’re gonna see more long term technical and ecological issues with battery powered electric cars. Gas is gonna change but I got hope for the aftermarket of tomorrow!
So you want to sell your car because of an overpriced offer but that then leads to so you want to buy a super over priced car in 2021... I got an offer for $16k for my 2013 GTI with 62k miles... Paid $12k for it 11k miles ago
So I have a mazda5 and (as many of u know) their isn’t a mazdaspeed 5, and so we’re making our own by putting the mazdaspeed3 engine and driveline into it, plus some other mods. I’ve been looking for a good body kit, but I can’t find any so I’m assuming I’ll have to get that custom. Anybody know a good company that makes custom rocket bunny style body kits?
Me owning a mazda 6 2004 manual 4cyl fwd😭😭😭 wishing it was a speed 6 and seeing this video made me wanna cry lol🤣🥺who can sponser me some car parts plz? ❤
The Mazda dealerships still call me once in a while asking if I want to trade in my 2012 Mazdaspeed 3. They get the same answer every time "Do you have a replacement model? No. Well, then NO I don't want to trade in my Speed3!" It is that simple.
My son has a 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 and it is a blast to drive. What a great car. If they had made the Mazdaspeed 6 in the wagon body, I would be all over that.
Highly doubt it's coming back. If they aren't in the thick of R&D for one right now, it's probably not gonna happen. At least not with an ICE power plant.
i actually own a mazdaspeed 2001 mazda protege mp3 (at the time the mp3 model was considered high tech and only 500 were made in yellow and then 1000 in blue). i own a yellow 5 speed manual 2.0 L. shes a beaut
I have a Mazda speed protege it’s sliver and I keep it very clean and there is times I think I am the only person with a Mazda protege and it has great handling and in the future I am going to add more boost
I have a 2010 speed 3 and they TOTALLY NEED TO COME BACK !!!! I love this car sooooooo much ! They are an absolute joy to drive even when you cruize on the highway or just driving around. They also are really sleeper so except if you but like green mags, a straight pipe exhaust and aftermarket headlight in purple the police don’t see you and you are not always on the side of the road having a ticket
You the best 💙 We made the gallery because it shouldn't be hard to find Fitment for your car. The gallery is a spot for the entire community to come together and help each other out. The fact people enjoy it makes our hearts warm!
The Mazda speed 3 2nd gen is still as quick as the 2021 type R or faster 10 yrs later. I hope Mazda never builds a fast fun car again while my speed is still ZOOM ZOOMING
The BK Platform is a banger! Been with the BK platform since '14 (since 18 when I got my license), now upgraded to a Mazdaspeed3 and bwoooi this is it! Japanese really do know what they're doing with engineering, since they focus on precision. It's the most practical car ever for the JDM or even general performance car enthusiasts that have some other things on the side, rather than themselves (subjective, as it meets and exceeds my needs) and bang for the buck in terms of space, performance and even reliability, although some smash it. These engines are notoriously torquey; treat it right, and it won't let you down - just like any car in fact. The only issues I had with Mazda is rust and electrical failures, because heck; it's normal, nothing extraordinary, because they age in different climates and previous owners, and you can't know how the bodywork and other areas were treated in season changes. Will consider upgrading again if they bring another practical BK type, with AWD, remove some of the limitations, or make them easier to work with (upgrading certain things without getting the law up your rear, because most of us have restrictions where we live), without redesigning the engine/or the bay (referring to improving fuel supply, dropping the excessive plastic junk, the FoMoCo junk and build their own, slap a factory FMIC, get a proper turbo since that k04 is like a little toy for the 2.3 engine, and some other minor touches, my fellas know what I'm talking about here). All in all, they've built (Mazda & Mazdaspeed) awesome cars and all they needed and need is proper maintenance and drivers that know some basic car care that know how to drive, and don't abuse them like crazy when cold or out of the maintenance schedule; abuse them when they're ready for it and ensure fluids are on point and the correct ones are used. They're mostly banged right now (Mazdaspeeds) because of incorrect maintenance and improper tuning or none at all, and slapping crazy parts on them without common sense, hence the infamous ZZB. Mine has 151T Km and still holds a steady 14bar in all cylinders, and it's an ex-police car (as in, it was abused, some electrical stuff reworked but left disconnected, and it still does great - I'll fix these and the car will be a dream, since most headaches are on the electrical part, but I did expect that as I had a BK before; did not expect the Police not to hook certain stuff, but that's another story - the mechanical side of it, is perfect, but the electrical is bringing it down, since sensors are electrical and manage mechanical stuff - DUH). It's true, they've had some TSBs, but every manufacturer has them due to the limited R&D period and budget, implementation and rushing Engineers; give Engineers time, money and space and they deliver properly because they're Engineers for a reason, no matter the nationality - engineering is trial and error and learning from previous experience, plus, applying that to your current knowledge. Pointing fingers at this hunger for revenue, when you can instead focus on quality. Some things are limited intentionally, but can be prevented [long live the engineers that make performance parts & tuners], because manufacturers usually make their revenue from parts & fixing cars, not the car sales. Don't go cheap and stupid if you want a great zoom-zoom; it reacts very well to performance adjustments ( the ones done right ). Collaborate with experienced folks (ENGINEERS PREFERRED) that know their stuff, like: - CorkSport [mainly these guys since they're focused on Mazda and they're professional, friendly, and patient] - Cobb [and these guys, they spend plenty on R&D, for multiple manufacturers] - CP&E[specializes in direct injected turbocharged engines] - JBR[drag racer if not mistaken, and the guy had exceeded limits so there's plenty of knowledge] - Experienced tuners [HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - can name Justin from Freektune, Cody, Nishan, folks from HPA (they even worked on F1 cars, and we know how advanced these cars are) and I'm sure there are more, but do your research]; Both you and the car will love it. True, it's expensive, but if you want quality, you have to pay, because that person/group invested time, so you're paying for the research, knowledge and materials mostly. If you feel confident that you can catch up with their progress, go wild with a Versatuner. The Mazdaspeed community is tight, we always help each other. To date, I'm still asking myself if people treat their car like their other valuable belongings which they really invest time/money/effort in - education is really important, no matter the industry; focus on you, then on other things - never stop learning and you'll be just fine. Just let that sink in, because the engineers have to think outside the box not to bring what they design out of the desired parameters; mostly, it's the user doing things wrong. The manuals are your best friend, where in fact, they state and highly recommend not RACING the engine (HPFP) - 5500 RPM is safe full stock, above that, it's stupid, you are at a high risk of damaging the car (starvation), which leads to well, we all know - AFR, pressures and fluids to summarize - the harder you slam it without supportive mods, the harder it has to work to provide that and everything has a limit (either mechanical, electrical or design/engineering), and if it lacks a key element, you're in trouble. If there are no limits, it goes out of control and the unexpected happens; this is engineering, and nobody wants the unexpected in engineering. Now sure now how things are now. All I've heard is that Skyactives are efficient and complicated; never drove one, or owned one to have an opinion, but I'm sure Miata's still a mean machine. The bodywork looks ok-ish, but doesn't quite fit their sleeper trump card, because that was their ace - the underdog that swept everyone - I mean, to be so good at something to get banned, it's something extraordinary. TL;DR, dang, and I've tried to summarize as much as possible.
I've owned an Rx-8 and two gen two Mazdaspeed3 and I have to say price to smiles per gallon the Speed division of Mazda always hit the nail on the head! Wish they'd bring them back 😔
@@LeeRaySmith the MZR engine is actually a ford engine but with plus 40 hp than the Ford engine so you have 263 hp rather than the 220 hp that the original ford engine
as a 2007 ms6 owner, if they made another ms6 that kept the 6 speed, gave it a better turbo out of the factory, fixed some of the previous issues with mounts and fueling that the original had, dropped in a more reliable, bigger cube i4, and gave it some tasty awd impovements to the first iteration, AND managed to keep the spirit of the car alive......... Id see you at the dealership ;)
They just need to do what people are starting to do in the community 2.5 block with the speed head, and a bigger turb-ski. All the ZOOOOOMS! That is my current plan for my speed 6 project.
I remember seeing their 90s catalogs online, the OEM options you could have were insane! :D Could you do an episode on Tommykaira or RE Ameniya? Their cars are really cool.
They are good reliable cars (I own a mazda 3 2005 not the mazdaspeed) dayum I've been driving mine for like 2 years, and trust me nothing ever have happened to it "just oil changes" "and the clutch".
They should bring out a MAZDASPEED Mx5 ND, make it beat the GR86 and they should be back in business. Otherwise they are going to loose out on a large part of the "New Generation" Simply having just one really fast car should renew their image and even make people happier to purchase a Mazda.
