Thanks for telling us about your eye!. Man, you've been through a lot. I'm full of admiration for the way you just get on with things. Love the way y'all care for and talk to the animals. I am 80 years old. When I was a child (1940's during WW2) eggs were rationed so we kept chickens for their eggs. (and occasionally for a meal as a treat (Christmas and Easter) They were fed mostly on potato peelings Boiled up with some Bran and a red powder called Karswood, which was supposed to make them lay more. (don't know that it did). They loved to scratch and ate grit we made by smashing up old china plates and small limestone rocks. I wish I still could keep chickens.!. Best wishes from the UK. .🐔

I’m one of those recent subscribers. I came over from Tracy & Gene’s channel Just Dig It Farms. I honestly hadn’t even noticed your eye, but that’s a pretty cool story and a darn good reason it’s famous!! What I have noticed, is how positive y’all always sound. You are all so upbeat and positive even about issues like the missing roof metal, the plumber or Moody getting out. I also see how you greet your animals and they greet you. Y’all have fun with their names and getting to know their personalities and appreciating them. It’s honestly just a joy to watch your videos! I’m really glad I have checked you out and look forward to continuing to see your new homestead grow and evolve. Thank you for making videos and sharing with us!

Thanks for the video today! It's just what I needed on a snowy day in Kentucky. I love it when you highlight a particular chicken and talk about his/her personality, traits or markings. I learn so much! You guys need a Rod Jr. though....I really miss him. I remember the first video where you talked about your eye. Your right, everyone has something different about them that makes them uniquely wonderful. That ear twitch of your is a cool "party trick". I'm a severe stutterer. Some people don't engage me in conversation because it takes me longer to say things than everyone else. My "party trick" when I was working was to ask a series of questions at a work meeting. The leader of the meetings didn't like to wait on me to take the time to ask the questions I needed so he ended the meetings quickly and asked folks to email him their questions in a group email. By asking just one question, I could end a meeting in a heartbeat. LOL Everyone hated when I retired.

You're a great guy, Jason. I'm new to your channel (in the last few months) and have seen the video you referred to (30 things you didn't know about us). It is absolutely normal for folks to wonder what someone else's difference is about (I say difference because I believe it isn't always a disability, especially if you've grown up with a condition. I have to say though, that I still find it ill-mannered that people would actually ask what's up with it though. It's one of those personal things that I'd never ask someone about. I am disabled from a spine/spinal cord injury but am fortunate to have some mobility. With the spine injury, I also have severe damage to my right sided sciatic nerve. If anyone has ever had sciatica, they know it is really painful. [I've had it 24/7 for 11 years now. I do use a wheelchair when I'm outside the home, mostly for safety reasons. If I fall, I cannot get back up easily plus I tend to injure myself when I do fall. At home I use a walker with a seat on it. I kind of push myself around with my "good leg" (the one without sciatica). I can 'walk' but I have things very strategically placed to always have something to hang onto if I do walk instead of use my walker. Most of the time, however, I do use the walker for safety purposes since I now live alone. My daughter is 21yo and on her own now. Many folks have said that they think it would be better if she lived at home with me. I'm very glad she doesn't. I want her to have HER life. She still spins around and picks up my meds for me, grabs the odd thing at the store for me, etc. but I do not want her here - I want her out there living her life. My point in saying that, no one has ever, ever stopped and asked me why I'm in a wheelchair or what happened to me. I think if anyone did, I'd probably tell them I fell off a 700 foot cliff as a toddler or something like that, haha. It's just not something you do... or at least that's how I was raised... to ask someone what their disability or "difference" is caused by. Anyways, that's just my thoughts on it. Like I said, I understand people wondering, I'm just surprised someone would actually as you. You and your ladies are very gracious to share a snippet of your lives with us. Thanks for having us tag along on the chores today. I look forward to your videos very much and they are a highlight of my week when I see one has been uploaded. Take care! Heather🇨🇦

Heather , in the Southern part of the United States, we are more “ open “ than other parts of the country or world. It’s just how we are raised…….to be open and honest about ourselves. I seriously doubt he gives it a thought when someone directly asks about his eye. My thought is that KNOWING just may enable us to HELP someone, if we ever encounter a person with anything even remotely similar.
@heatherd.9390
@heatherd.9390 2 года назад
@@carolcole570 Hi Carol - I missed your reply. Sorry for not replying sooner. I think that openness and honesty are wonderful traits. The world could use more people like that, that's for sure! I certainly don't begrudge someone asking, it just surprises me that someone would, if that makes sense. Like I say, if someone were to ask me how I managed to be in a wheelchair, I'd be surprised by their directness, but at the same time, it is far better than just staring and pointing at me. I guess I shouldn't say no one has ever asked me. It has happened twice, but both times the 'asker' was less than 5 years old, haha, and the mother was so embarrassed. I did give the child a very general reply - just enough for them to understand - but I'd have been less likely to be forthcoming if an adult were to ask. It's probably far more common for someone to ask thru a monitor or screen and less likely to happen face-to-face. Or at least I think so. 😜 As you said, perhaps it is just a 'location' thing, or maybe I was just raised with a tight-a$$ momma, haha! Like I said, no disrespect intended. In hindsight, my comment served absolutely no purpose. It's one of those things I could have thought to myself and didn't need to write. I hope I didn't offend you with that comment. That was not my intention. Take care, Heather

I highly reccomend for the new comers to go back and watch from the start the story of Coghill. There is so much there that you are missing. I have been watching from the start of it all and must say, that i love the old videos, but i am also loving the new adventure that they are on. To the Smiths, Keep being you! don't let peoples nosey or bossy words change who you are! You go where you are today being you. so DON'T STOP! (? a question mark so they see this ^^ )

I am watching this a year later for the first time. A friend told me about your vlog last fall and I've been following since then. Seeing how far you have come on the property is astonishing. Pop those buttons! You deserve to feel proud. Happy that your eye is famous and useful medical history. Love your vlog.

When I was very young I had a really bad infection in my eyes because of allergies. For six months I had to wear very dark sunglasses (even indoors) and took oral antibiotics and two different eye drops to heal the infection. I lost some of my vision and my eyes are still very sensitive to sunlight and bright light. I am 63 years old now and still have to use prescription eye drops because of allergies. I have had people tell me I get around great for a blind person, because I wear very dark sunglasses. I find this very funny because I drive myself everywhere. BTW, my sunglasses are prescriptions for my vision.

Glad you answered all my guesses. Just so you know I didn’t notice for several videos mainly because you and Brooke are always so cheery and loving to the critters I am seeing your being more than you eye…and maybe cuz you had sunglasses on? Not sure…but I am glad to put it away now that I know. Thanks so much for sharing. You are such a great distraction from my woes!

Interesting eye condition. So since your eye is light sensitive, does the condition you have affect your pupil contracting and dilating? Just curious. Glad it worked out OK for you.

Jason, I remember seeing an old video of a candle making accident, I think it was, and some how I had that in my mind as to what happened to your eye. I absolutely appreciate your positivity!! You are a great example and one of the many reasons I LOVE your channel. God bless you and yours!!

Thanks for the explanation, with your sun shades I hardly noticed. There was a kid in my neighborhood, early 1960s, who had that problem in both eyes. I think he was born too early to benefit from your "world famous eye"! Enjoy watching you and your family and how you interact with the animals! Keep up the great work!!
