I’m really glad that Slater returned, he’s one of my favorite of y’all’s birds. I’m not actually too surprised that he made it, turkeys are native to the forests of North America after all, he was probably just hanging out with some wild turkeys and decided that life on a farm was easier!
@whitehouseonthehill

His first time on his own though. So foraging for food, finding unfrozen water and surviving near predators is quite a tall order

@@whitehouseonthehill I know this is old but one reason that bird survived and wild ones, with the lack of water and food is because fowl hold their feed in their crawl when bad weather is coming or is here. Pick up a rooster and feel its crawl often and you will notice what i'm talking about. If bad weather is coming animals know. The reason i know this is because i was around game cocks for a while and before a match they get the feed gradually cut back so they are empty and on point on the day when they compete. It is a very fine line, too empty too soon bad also. If bad weather comes and you don't adjust less feed you will have a sluggish rooster full of feed and get whooped.

Our puppy a few weeks ago, when she was 6.5 weeks old, followed her mama into the woods and got lost. I searched for 3 hours in the cold rain and couldn't find her. I thought for sure she got caught by a coyote or that she would have frozen overnight. But 30 hours later she found her way back home. She was unharmed and very hungry. I'm glad that we both had such great outcomes for our lost animals.
