Paul. Wrong. Bought a pair of Canton Vento 890.2s new sealed in box for $2100. I can show you the receipt. They are handmade in Germany. They have been making speakers since 1974. Top to bottom they sound incredible. The ceramic tweeter is the star of the show. I also just picked up a pair of new sealed JBL Studio 590's for $1000. Great sounding and looking speakers ARE out there between even $1000 and $3000. There will be serious serious competition for you in the $2k to $3k range. More than ever! So.....its ridiculous for you to make a blanket statement saying there arent that many good speakers out there at 2 to 3 k. Absurd in fact.
@Petermaler66
@Petermaler66 2 года назад
Hello mate ! You should consider the fact that every people on earth don't have the same reference about what a high quality speaker is ! Maybe, his goal was way higher than what you talk about for the same price... Audio quality is so random and definitly depending on the guy who is speakin about it... Nobody can actually judge :)
@ryanschipp8513

@@Petermaler66 listen, when anyone makes a statement that there aren't that many 2,000 $3,000 speakers out there you have no idea what you are talking about. Period. That's just a foolish statement. That's my point if you didn't get it

@@ryanschipp8513 well mate I own a few of these 2/3000 hifi speakers... And also most expensive ones (not hugely more expensive, the most ones are 10000 euros) so I definitely know that there's a quality gap in between some rank of speakers... My point of view is that you can't judge anyone else expectations

@ryanschipp8513 2 года назад
@@Petermaler66 perfect. So let me ask you this. The $2000- $3,000 speakers you have or have had.... what were they? Also, Paul is making a blanket statement saying that they aren't good without even hearing them LOL he's simply trying to plant a seed for selling his $3,000 speaker when it comes out. You are switching up the subject matter. Or shall I say you are attempting to. Any human being that has any knowledge of Hi-Fi that makes a blanket statement that there aren't any good two to three thousand dollars speakers out there is full of it. That's what I said in my comment and that's what I'm focusing on. I didn't bring up what you are bringing up. That's a whole nother conversation and topic
@Petermaler66
@Petermaler66 2 года назад
@@ryanschipp8513 Okay so maybe I didn't get perfectly what he said as english is not my first language, but what I understood is that he found the speakers he built were good but he couldn't sell them in the 3000usd section. To sell them this price he would have to decrease too much the components quality, something he didn't want to do. Because, in his point of view (and it's what I'm talkin about here), we can't make speakers that could be sold around 3000usd that would reach his personnal expectations. And so, nobody can have anything to say about it, it's his point of view, his own expectations. But maybe I understood wrong and he stated that every speakers around this price are shit. Which is exactly the same, but less politicaly correct. I own JM lab ovation 810, Genelec 1037, JBL 4895. Sorry if you thought I wanted to bring up something you didn't say, if so, it wasn't on purpose

I was feeling the same way, until I started venturing into speaker repair and seeing all of the design nuances and seemingly trivial details that are actually integral to the sound. The process of birthing a product is as intricate as producing a record. It took "The Avalanches" over 10 years to make their 2017 release and its easily one of the greatest records ever! So take your time PS Audio, get it right and put the industry on its ears!!!!!!!

I think there is the perception, and I tend to agree, that the best speakers are made by companies that only make speakers. When you start getting up above $10,000 or so, there is a lot of competition from very well established speaker-only companies. It would be a hard sell for a newcomer to compete in that market. If I ran things at PS Audio, I would start with $2,000 to $5,000 models and build a reputation for good sound before going higher.

What's wrong with "old man's speakers"? The Wharfedale Linton is very successful, as are some other heritage designs. The goal of the entry level price point of the line remains; Paul said so in the vid. The cost of R&D has become exorbitant though. @ELcinegatto87
@ELcinegatto87 3 года назад
@@robertbyington7715 Yep, and massively overpriced because of the brands studio monitor pedigree. That is not a lot of speaker for the money, infact very little. Maybe that's what you wanted, but for that size and bookshelf since you are looking at more "pro" pedigree options, JBP 708s and active too, no cost for a Hegel, just a good DAC with a volume control. Either way, small speaker = small output. I'd rather have FOCAL over any ATC speaker. ATC is a good company and they make a quality product, but not for what they charge and what you get for the money. ATC is probably the worst example too of price mark ups, you are literally paying for the name. Also FOCAL's industrial design and driver technology is at the cutting edge of dynamic speaker design, easily ahead of ATC.

@@ELcinegatto87 I have had focals and I can promise you they don’t come anywhere close to ATCs midrange and the 19s are NOT bookshelf speakers they are similar in size when compared to the 50s or the 100s because they are so much bigger in comparison . Professional musicians like Tom Petty and Springsteen swear by NTCs. I can promise you NOBODY handcrafts their AMPs with more precision than Hegel; their 300 will out perform some amps that cost 3 times as much at $5 K their internal DACs and external DACs are some of the best on the market. If you want to talk OVERPRICED let’s talk MAC. They have a 30k amp that uses a $7 volumn control and the remote that comes with it is plastic. My Hegel 300 amp has a remote that’s cut from a solid piece of metal. If you want to compare build quality just try picking up the Hegel 300 it’s over 40 pounds and is built like a tank. Sorry but anybody that thinks Focal is better in the midrange than NTC never heard NTCs. People don’t bitch about the cost of a cartier watch or a Ferrari but say NTC cost 2 much; NTC is all hand made including the cabinetry

Paul, we will wait for the new speakers. BTW, the new web page looks great. Paul one suggestion is to remove the Geo location block to buy online. I live in Colombia and i want to buy the phono preamp and sent it to US to my PO Box. but this restrictions no make sense in the covid era. Thanks

I wonder how long a speaker will last. My VSA's are 17 years old. Had them upgraded by VSA 9 years ago. Still sound very good. I'm just courious. Nothing lasts forever.

Aw. No servos. I was hoping for a really nice servo subwoofer, what with Paul being such an advocate of decent subs. Anyhoo, looking forward to what you bring to the table.

I don't consider myself an audiophile - in fact it took me 5 minutes listening to realize one of the tweeters in my bookshelf speakers was not working. However I always imaging audiophile's care more about the sound detail and sound stage and "personality" of the speakers than how they look specifically. I have taken some fairly expensive speakers apart and there is really not much to them. Cheap crossover components, shallow voice coils and nothing special in the cabinet - but they look great. I would rather have speakers where the money is spent on excellent components, top notch drivers and great structural cabinetry to position resonance frequencies out of range. I would not care if they looked like nailed together plywood boxes on the outside. That's just me. I'm not an audiophile - I just appreciate learning how to listen.

Paul how about building a 4-way active speaker with a servo sub? You have have all the resources. I built myself a 4-way active setup incorporating 2 servo subs cross over at 50hz, 250hz and 3000hz and it sounds fantastic, I can only imagine what your designers can do.

Paul, why not start your speaker venture with a very high end, well built two way bookshelf loudspeaker. Two GREAT drivers, a beautiful cabinet and most importantly, brag on the crossover networks, the high quality parts used. Every darn speaker manufacturer or most of them are using cheap crummy parts in their crossover networks, USE TOP LINE PARTS, YOUR BIGGEST SELLING FEATURE! One high quality low frequency driver, a great soft dome tweeter and that would be your introductory product, winner!

Paul...I heard 3 things that are concerning, accountants say cost is too high, hired consultants ($$$), and they cut the servos out now. Truly great speakers are usually from one person's vision...when others come in and start changing that vision thus muddying up the clear waters. Oh, and accountants are the destroyers of all great things and they are never accountable for that.

I can’t help but think changing thoughts with servo technology, a life long approach in sound quality for Paul has to do more with margins/profit? Maybe I’m wrong what do I know.

Maybe Paul and Chris instead chose to use DSP instead of servo's for linearizing the woofers. I thought the woofers would be active anyway, so adding DSP in these modern times makes more sense. Maybe they add a parametric EQ in there as well to combat room modes... Paul... if you read this... ;-).
