i think it’s very important to point out that spencer and ryan had main concerns for how the band was perceived (image wise) and so during the nothing rhymes with circus tour everyone was not only surprised by fever’s lyrical advancement in the emo scene, but also how the tour seemed much more like an experience (think vegas show) this is what took them into stardom, they were doing everything than all the other bands around them
you want to know what happened to ryan? we are married and live in a castle in the sky. our next door neighbors are carebears. grumpy bear has a baditude, but i still heart him. i hope your life is as magical as ours.
I’m honestly happy for him, being put in the spotlight at such a young age is probably a lot to handle and it’s good he has his privacy now. He was as old as I am now when panic! became huge and I couldn’t imagine that happening to me, I really hope he does release a solo album one day though, afycso is one of my favorite albums because of Ryan’s lyrics
@@chilicheesefries71 Great pick! I thought about that song when I saw a play this week and the cast cheered during a wedding scene. P.O. is one of those rare albums where I love every song. Nine in the Afternoon, Folkin' Around, When the Day Met the Night, Mad as Rabbits... it's just smash after smash. Man, I really want another Ryan Ross album!
@@chilicheesefries71 I am so grateful Behind the Sea was written. It's what introduced me to The Beatles. When I first heard it I was like 14? I went to my dad and had him listen. I was like "it sounds just like The Beatles!" And he was like "hmm. No." Now I'm on his side, but the influence is so clear. Anyway, sorry. It's one my favorites ❤
I really hope he is able to come back with his own music or a new band he feels comfortable with some day, his music is amazing and I wish he had received credit for being the mastermind behind the whole band. Its so sad how he had such terrible experiences with fans too, it really feels like they solidified him never feeling comfortable in the spotlight again. Totally understandable if he does just want to live his life in privacy, but such a loss for his creativity and artistry to not be shared with the world :(
I think a lot of people dislike post-ryan panic! because of the fact that the band name was really only used as a marketing ploy than sticking to the original vision of being a band? Especially when Spencer left, that's when panic! stops being a band and mores a brand imo. I mean what's more marketable? Panic! At The Disco, successful band from the 2000s with massive hits and cult following, or Brendon Urie the solo artist? I don't even think it was done with particularly malicious intent-definitely seems like a label decision rather than Brendons anyway. There is definitely criticism to be had with the later material, but I think there would be a whole lot less criticism about it if it wasn't under panics name. Hopefully this makes sense maybe, panic! is one of those bands I am fascinated in and will definitely be making like a 2 hour long video essay on lol
@@kit9570 maybe. It’s a good theory. Labels do a lot of shady things. But people act like Brendon isn’t an OG member of the band. Is he a founding member? No. But he’s still been there since the beginning. So it was still Panic but with different members filling in. A lot of bands have come down to just the original singer and no other original members. I just think certain Panic fans have this idea of Ryan as the true tortured genius who had everything stolen from him by big bad Brendon. But that’s not true. Brendon could’ve gone under a solo name but I feel like he wanted to keep the band going. I don’t know. I could also do a whole hours long essay on this haha. But I get where you’re coming from.
I keep reading Reddit posts from years ago that claim that Ryan is a ghostwriter for songs and i think that’s the only thing keeping me sane these days because i cannot imagine how miserable I’d be if Ryan stopped writing music
To be fair, Vices & Virtues still slaps as a straight forward pop rock album. The problem with more recent Panic (especially Vengeance 🤮) is the the lack of strong hooks, and Brendon's vocals - the latter is like...we get it, you've been on Broadway. Jeez 🙄
@@rotaficionado666 I like Viva, I think there’s a lot of good hooks. In fact a lot of the post-Ryan albums have really catchy songs. Are they as good lyrically as Ryan’s? Depends on who you ask. But I think Brendon did a good job.
Technically vices still slaps because ryan has co wrote some of the songs! He left before the album release but he worked on it (nearly witches) so i guess it makes sense why it’s a good album
@@Ayooshii I believe Pete Wentz and John Feldman also had a hand in writing songs on Vices. BUT it was the first album without the primary lyricist and Brendon might not have been confident enough in his writing to do it himself.
The fact when I was 5 years old I remember seeing I write sins not tragedies on tv and was so like spooked out and amazed at the song and music video. One of the few things I can remember from my childhood.
I think the problem I have with everything panic! related is that nowadays people put Brendon down as if he's the biggest pile of trash ever whilst putting Ryan Ross (who we haven't seen is so long) on a pedestal. I thought things would change with fans of the older albums growing up but they have been so immature to the point where no one is allowed to be a late panic! or Brendon Urie fan without getting shit on. It's completely ridiculous tbh Personally I absolutely love the album that the young veins made and I love every panic! album. They both mutually agreed so long ago to split up, the entire situation of people trying to put Brendon down is ridiculous and should be outdated by now. Even this very video, I was scared would be yet another one of someone shitting on Brendon and not taking any criticism, shitting on their last album because I genuinely feel as if there is no place anymore where someone can like Panic! at the disco openly and proudly without people wanting to bully you and it really sucks because there are still a lot of fans out there but they're kinda forced to be quiet because of all the hardcore Ryan stans. (once again love both of them and their music, this is merely a criticism of the fans.
@@freckled-jellyfish I love Brendon and what he did with Panic. Viva Las Vengeance is one of my favorite Panic albums. I also love Ryan. He was a great lyricist and musician. The Young Veins were truly unique and interesting. It’s sad that the fandom is so divided on these two great artists because of the pettiness of Stan culture
I love original Panic and post-Ryan Panic. When looking at the details of the split, they had issues before they got big and everyone was kind of an asshole. I kinda have to not think about how everyone was an asshole and just enjoy the music because if I used that as a criteria for artists, I probably wouldn’t have many to follow, especially in the punk genre. But this is exactly why I can’t put any of them on a pedestal and don’t understand why everyone does and makes Brendon seem like a villain
I'd say eventually he'd come back as long as people do not harass him to. I fell out with PATD after Fever because I moved on but good luck to him. It's just really sad that people would straight up harass someone just because they want them to fit the image THEY want.
They want him and brendon to be gay lovers, they're not gay Ryan wanted the music to stay the same as pretty odd, brendon wanted something else. Hope they're happy on their own paths
My fav era is def vices & virtues but a fever and pretty. Odd r behind it. I don’t like his newer music but hey some of it still slaps like get off of his back it’s not like you can’t listen to his older music anymore
You're real for making this video, ngl I'm gonna say ryan fell off the face of the planet bc of how obsessive the fans were/are. I legit saw someone on tiktok post a video that said "Stalked too hard & now I'm friends with Ryan Ross' mom & step-brother" 😰
What if Panic! Comes back but its the classic line up? Brendons had time to grow up and mature as has Ryan, what if they were able to marry their visions for Panic? The poppier side Brendon wanted, the more indie side Ryan wanted and occasionally we get a album indulging Brendons version of Panic or indulging Ryan and Johns version so we get a more Pretty Odd inspired album or more of what that could have been? Or would they struggle with that? I think time could heal the divide
@@thomasleongeorgerobertglad7560 I can see the indie and pop meshing well together. Brendon has worked with some interesting indie artists, as has Ryan. I feel like if they could rekindle their friendship and their artistic relationship then we COULD see a classic Panic reunion, even if it’s just a concert
Without Brendan’s voice panic! would most likely never have been popular. There’s a lot of smart lyric bands that were never big . If pretty odd was first it they probably wouldn’t have been signed .
I was a fan of Panic's almost from the very beginning once I write sins was getting radio play. I remember everything from the division of fans at Pretty Odd's release, to the eventual breakup, and unfortunately his stalker tricking him into thinking he was rekindling his friendship with Urie and ugh, honestly, I think of him and his music so often. He really is so talented, I loved The Young Veins and when that broke up too, I feared he was over making music. I'm glad he has had a few projects here and there, but my fingers are still crossed for the solo album. I know lots of people in the scene are still patiently hoping to hear his music again :")
I was there in late 08- early 09, during We're So Blogging, the "To Whom It May Concern" split announcement, into Take A Vacation and Vices and Virtues. I remember feeling sad about the parting of the ways but not that Panic wouldn't be good solely because Ryan left. Mainly because Brendon and Spencer were as big an influence on the band's sound and equally talented on their instruments during the Fever and Pretty Odd years. If my interest in Panic waned is because the whole thing just couldn't keep afoot after their third record and I just lost contact with them as they fell apart. PS: apparently, the guys were already big into the early 60s sound when they got into the studio for Fever and had to be talked into keeping their sound. Had they had it their way the first album would be a mix of the more classical sounding side B of Fever and Pretty Odd.
I loved panic at the disco since i write sins not tragedies in middle school around while everyone was all about my chemical romance i was too but panic at the disco nobody even knew who they were accept me i was the only kid in school at the time lol
You know what's accurate? "..even if he doesn't, I feel like his fans will still be here." And... here we are! (thank you for this new and precious video)
Ryan voluntarily left Panic so Brendon did not steal it from him lol I’m glad Brendon wanted to stick with the more pop punk sounds because that’s what made Panic big. Panic wouldn’t have gotten to the popularity that they did if they released pretty odd as their first studio album instead of fever.
@@TamalesDeRajas I think Brendon helped Panic in the long run. Maybe Ryan would’ve matured and wanted to do a poppier sound if he stayed. But he did exit on his own terms. Brendon definitely did not steal the band. I always try to stress that fact when I do a Panic video.
thinking about local god relating to ryan knowing that ultimately he’s thw one who preserved his legacy and respect as an artist better than brendan could ever restore his back to is so wild
That song is not about Ryan; Ryan was never known to be impressive at playing guitar, and even he has acknowledged it... it's clearly about Brendon himself. Please do more research
@@nuclearabomination yeah I definitely think it’s about Brendon. The whole album is about his career. And it’s obvious with lines like “now it’s 2021 and I’m almost famous” because by 2021 Ryan was out of the spotlight
@@BobaPat I could’ve sworn I mentioned that? Maybe it was in another video, but yes you’re right. Although some people also say it’s from the Panic by The Smiths but I think those people are wrong
@@EternallyUncoolTrevor also, they were attending cirque's Beatles Love show like once a week while doing mushrooms. Pretty much the reason for the indie sound switch for Pretty Odd. It was a crazy time to be in the Vegas music scene 🤣
@@BobaPat oh yeah they were experimenting with some fun stuff lol I only ever heard of the Cricket and Clover cabin sessions, but not what you mentioned. You learn something new every day!
i LOVE ryan but i seriously dont get the hate towards brendon. he's honestly such a great guy and his voice (apart from ryan's lyrics, ofc) made up panic's SOUL. not to mention he supports lgbtq+, which is a HUGE W
@@EternallyUncoolTrevor both of them complimented each other: without brendon, panic! wouldn't have had as much stage presence as it ended up having and the band probably wouldn't have been as successful; without ryan, the band wouldn't have existed (bc he founded it)
I think half of AFYCSO & TWTLTRTD, along with all of P.O. & the V&V bonus tracks are the best. AFYCSO's really set them up to be more punk than anything, and half of TWTLTRTD pushed them to seem more experimental. P.O. was their most unique album, and can't deny that I believe it should be their most famous. I don't like Panic! much, but that album has that cheery souding tune that I need for those rough days of the week. However, the bonus tracks of V&V I think are the best, wholly unique sounds, that are easier to grasp than AFYCSO, with a more feel-good beat than the grunginess of their first album. If that makes any sense
I think part of the reason why people don't like Brendon is because he wrote the bands biggest hits ( with the exception of IWSNT) and really made the band more main stream , fever and pretty odd feel like there part of this special club that only hardcore panic fans know whereas the other more recent pop songs don't . But I don't think just saying "Brendon made the bands biggest hits" gets rid of the fact he fundamentally changed the band ( if you can even call it that) for the worse , just because his songs were hits doesn't mean there good .
@@bigieeee fair. I just think he kept the band going. After the initial split when Ryan and Jon formed The Young Veins Brendon and Spencer could’ve just dipped and moved onto other things. But they continued on with Panic and made some fun albums with Vices and Too Weird. After Spencer left Brendon could’ve halted the whole thing and put the band on hiatus. But I think he wanted to keep it going, either for himself as a performer or the fans. I don’t mean to say he made Panic BETTER, but he definitely kept the band going whether we think the later albums are good or not.
I honestly feel like the albums after A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out and Pretty. Odd aren’t even real albums to me. They were just pop filler. Panic to me are those first two albums. I don’t feel like anything after that was really Panic at the disco and they Brandon should not have continued using the name after the band started to split up.
@@crysdee461 fair. But Spencer was the cofounder of the band and he stayed after Ryan left, so there can be an argument that the albums he played can still be considered Panic.
he was like 18-19 no? plus it’s not like he’s completely disappeared he just doesn’t like social media and stuff, i don’t find this video weird at all considering that panic has been getting more tiktok attention ^_^
