Bluest Sky, that's simply not true if you actually pay attention to the settlement, migration, and intermarriage history of the U.S. You cannot go by self-identification numbers, because it is the norm here to choose the most recent or most "exotic" part of one's heritage to claim. Almost all the people who listed their ethnicity as "American" (most of the South and parts of other areas) were from areas very heavily populated by people of British descent. People in most other areas of the country also often have partial British heritage, even most African Americans (as DNA tests and studies have shown). It's also worth noting that many of the self-identified "Irish" in the U.S., especially ones not from the Northeast or Chicago, are actually Ulster Scots (i.e. ethnic Scots from Northern Ireland who are of course also British).

Nearly every white American person? That's not entirely correct. Besides British there were huge German and Irish (who would consider themselves non-British) populations that emigrated to the US, plus Dutch, Scandinavian and other Europeans. And considering many immigrants often 'anglo-cized' their original surnames. it's hard to know where they all really came from.

Si prestas atención EE.UU es un pais enorme esto le trajo un mercado interno brutal que potencio su industria, si este pais del conosur hubiera existido su mismo mercado interno seria suficiente para potenciar la industria. You may find this interesting: Apparently, Ambrose O'Higgins, the father of Bernardo O'Higgins, basically Chile's Washington, came to Chile because Spain at the time considered catholic Irishmen as Spanish citizens, to spite the English. So O'Higgins, having lost his lands in Ireland, went to Spain, where he got a job as Governor in Chile, and latter Peru. This was possible because the Spanish gave the catholic Irish all the rights a Spaniard would have.

Yea I had heard about that but have not gone into depth on it. This is all after the Flight of the Earls happened in Ireland when thousands of Irish troops and their families left Ireland for exile in Europe - Spain, France, Austria etc. These soldiers went on to join the armies of their adopted countries and fight for them on the continent and in their colonies. Sad but interesting period of time.

Phil K no doubt there was Argentinian soldiers of Irish decent who still held a grudge for what happened with their families and took it out in the Falkland Islands / Malvinas (covering both sides). For example Patricio Dowling. I'm sure there are lots of Argentinian soldiers of Irish decent who acted honorably and in line with military standards. Also it must remember there are a lot of people on the Falkland Islands / Malvinas who are also of long line of Irish decent and came via British colonisation of the island. During the conflict soldiers from Ireland and soldiers of Irish decent living in the U.K. also fought for the British army. Irish and Irish decent soldiers fight in a lot of army's currently and historically including members of my own family who immigrated to the USA and have fought for a number of generations in the US Marine Corp. it's very complicated.

As I also mentioned there are a lot of people of Irish decent too who live on the island and Irish born and Irish decent who were serving in the British army and fought to take the island. I think you are focusing on only one side there but hey that is cool if that is your thing.

From a British perspective Ireland is called part of the "British Isles" while people in Ireland do not refer to Ireland being part of that at all. In Ireland, Ireland is just an island off the coast of Europe along with Britain and the other smaller islands. Even if you take the British view of the name it is a geographical name and does not suppose any ethnic or political allegiance like people in New Mexico are not Mexican even though "Mexico" is in the name of their state un the United States of America. From the political point Ireland was an occupied and colonial run territory of firstly the Kingdom of England and later on the United Kingdom. It was not politically incorporated into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until the act of Union of 1801 thus prior to that the country was Ireland. The puppet parliament in Dublin, which only Anglicans (who were British colonial settlers) could vote for and be elected to, seeded full control of Ireland to the United Kingdom thus forming this new country. As the vast vast majority of the Irish population (roughly 90%) could not vote for this it could not be said that this was done in any sort of democratic way. Irish people never democratically seeded their independence to any other government thus calling them by the name of their occupier would be questionable at best, much like calling anyone born in, for example Japanese occupied Korea Japanese and not Korean. In relation to the remaining part of Ireland that is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland this is a political discussion for another day and does not really reflect the discussion. I know Irish history is not though well outside of Ireland so the entire Irish history thing can seem a bit confusing for people not from here.

I think one should refer to them depending on the language being spoken. Falkland if you're speaking English, Malvinas if you're speaking Spanish. To me it's a matter of language rather than a matter of who owns them.
