Hi my name is Brooklinn khoury, on November 3rd of 2020 my life changed instantly. I was attacked by a pit bull, who took off my whole upper lip and parts of my nose.

You should take the time to THINK before you criticize someone who is obviously moving forward with "much grace, kindness and bravery" (as @gwynethgrove772 already said) from a very bad situation.
I use to be a hardcore Pitbull advocate until I worked in the Animal Field. After 5 years I still am not mentally right over dogs and really have zero desire to own another one. I saw over and over and over again. Pits, Rotties,Huskies,Shepherds, Cane Corsos; breeds I use to advocate for be fine one minute then the next lunge and try to kill. In 20 seconds a shepherd ripped off one of our volunteers thumbs and was trying to reach her internal organs. I had multiple pit lunge at my throat. This wasn’t a one time thing. This eventually became a daily thing until I was alone in a dog fight with two pits and the mouth power they have. It took four people to get them to not kill each other. They are terrifying and because of the multiple times I’ve seen these dog breeds try to attack and kill. I can honestly say my thought process has changed.
Thanks for sharing. Honestly, I feel like a lot of it is in irresponsible breeding. Pits especially were bred to kill and fight. Even with the best training if the genes are just bad, it's an uphill battle. Some breeds just shouldn't exist. I include in that all breeds that just make a dog's life a misery, like pugs. Given how many Pitts just end up abused and in shelters because they are a difficult breed, it's just so much misery for those dogs, these breeds should just be banned for everyone's sake.
I grew up with dogs and love them but since having a baby I completely avoid all dogs and doubt we'll ever own another because truly at any time, any breed of dog, can bite and it can be devastating. I totally get where you're coming from!
Which is why I don't like pit bull owners just letting their dogs walk right up to me. Makes me a little apprehensive after seeing what they can do in person. Not sure even some owners of pit bulls know what they can really do.
Yeah, I really don't trust em. I've pet sat for a number of different breeds and the one Pitbull I pet sat for was way too much dog for me. They are a stubborn breed who resist training from what I could tell. They are also a very powerful strong dog and they know it. It's one thing to get a gentle giant. Another to step into the room with a powerhouse that has every intention of completely controlling the narrative of what you will and will not do for it and what it will and will not do for you. Once was enough for me. The owner had even less control over the dog than I did and I had very little. Super scary. Don't know what I would have done had it gone after anyone while I was being walked by it.
I can totally understand what you're talking about in this video. I got bit by a German Shepherd in my face from my forehead down to my left eye and I am now permanently blind it was a difficult experience for me and I am still very scared of any dog that's big . Took me a long time to actually want a dog at all but I finally found my puppy and I love him. I pray for your continuous recovery and I look forward to your other videos!
Thank you for sharing. And it’s sad that people will fear one type of dog when every dog has the capability of hurting people. German shepards are great dogs. But obviously can snap. Whilst still being a good dog. Pitbulls and German Shepards and everything in between are great dogs. And every one has the ability to hurt you. I am so happy you found trust in your heart to let another dog into your life and your fears of dogs are so valid. I have trauma of certain men because I was abused in a relationship. Doesn’t make all men bad. Just have to regain my trust in them
@@MiaLucifer Yes all dogs have the capability of snapping but to get snapped at or even bitten by a king charles cavalier/poodle/retriever/lab etc is a world away from a pitbull/german shepherd etc which are dogs bred to be violent and to hold on to its prey and to lock it's jaws down Please don't lump all dogs together because that's just completely unreasonable. I have only owned gentle breeds and have never been bitten or even snapped at but I have personally known people owning german shepherds and bully breeds who have suffered attacks and been maimed. There is no comparison between these dogs and pet dogs.
First, you are a lovely young woman, inside and out. Second, I lived in a home with a roomie who had big pure bred, red nosed pit. “Daisy” was the sweetest goofiest, most loving dog in the world, until she wasn’t. She nearly killed both of the other dogs in the home in a a matter of months. I’ll never forget trying to break up their fight. I loved her still, but I never trusted her again. So while I absolutely cannot relate to your experience, I do understand how scary it was just with two animals. I am so happy your recovery seems to be going well, emotionally and physically. You’re very strong. ❤
It’s not the pit bulls fault they were bread to be malicious. I think they should be illegal to breed and have to live in special homes. I know that they are not bad but it’s almost like having a wild animal. A lot of wild animals can be friendly but they need to defend themselves because they are supposed to exist in the wild. I know the same can’t be said for pit bulls and I truly love all animals and have loved my pets as family. I don’t believe they should be allowed because they don’t mean to be aggressive and generally are sweet animals. You can’t control their natural instincts or what they may be set off by

It doesn't make them a bad dog in general, it makes them a bad dog for people that think genetics don't exist- that's why people and animals get attacked. Their ownership should be more strict, temperment tests should be required.
A red-nosed pitbull attacked my dog, a pit-Shepard mix. I'm not gonna get a pitbull because of the incident. It was horrifying trying to get him to unhinge his jaw from my dogs face. I ended up getting bit in the process by my dog because I was in the way. He's perfectly fine now. We both just have major trust issues.
@@mavel2038 Obviously, the word I was meaning to use was bred. The words "bread" and "bred" are pronounced the same but do have entirely different meanings. I'm sure in the context of my sentence, the misspelled word would've been correctly interpreted to the majority of readers. I also have experience with feeling perturbed by grammar and spelling errors. However, I am also aware that in these days of talk-to-text and autocorrect, these lingual oversights have become par for the course. Especially when being used in an informal setting such as a RU-vid comment section. When a person goes out of their way to rectify a stranger's spelling on the internet it comes across as pretentious, not helpful. I agree with you otherwise. I am not an animal behavioral specialist, nor do I have expertise in canine genetics.
My brother has been attacked twice by PittBulls. Once when he was 16, took a chunk out of his chest/neck area and he couldve died and got 20 stictches. And again recently (despite the ban here in Toronto ). This time it was just a nip of his leg luckily. But I still remember the first time it looked like a bloody murder scene from a horror film and it was terrifying.
I’ve heard that if the animal starts getting irritated in a physical way that’s not always visible, like arthritis or a tumor, they can snap even though they may have had proper training. It’s unfortunate but a good reminder that animals are always animals before they are our pets.

Your lip looks like your regular lip now, just without the pigment!!! You can see the shadow above it where it curves, and you can see your teeth more when you talk now. I'm a vet tech and sadly the stigma does come from somewhere. And *I stand fully behind you in saying the breed*, because people who own pitbulls need to realize that they own a breed with a higher than average potential for suddenly "switching" and the way they are built the harm done is usually quite big. Same with people who aren't owners but encounter them, yes, any dog can snap, but these dogs (and other breeds like rottweilers for example) are built to KILL. Without a doubt they are adorable dogs who can be the sweetest, but owners need to follow a higher than average safety protocol and know a lot about dogs before owning them in my opinion. I also hate to say it, but they should not be kept around other animals or children. We've had terrible injuries and deaths of dogs and cats at the clinic due to dangerous dog breed attacks. Often these were companion pets that the dogs knew well. That's the biggest thing, they just "turn" on you with no warning. Of course, the dogs are not to blame, it is their instinct, but legislation around them is important.
I agree with you. I was a vet tech for 20 years and experienced the same thing. People keep commenting that there is always a reason they snap and don't attack out of nowhere. As we would say it's like they have this switch that just clicks into attack mode with no trigger. Just shows even when professionals warn people they don't listen. Which makes the situation even more dangerous because these are the people that are owning them. If you own one you need to not be biased and know you have a loaded weapon that can go off at anytime and not be the person that says my dog is wonderful and would never harm anyone. Those are the famous last words of people before things happen.
@@rawjan39 As medical professionals we do know what a pitbull is. Just because they are not a "official breed" doesn't mean that is not what they are called by most people. When you ask a client what kind of dog they are owners respond with pitbull. We know most of these dog are pit mixes but try to tell a pitbull owner their dog is not a pit and they respond just like you dumb people in the comments arguing yes they are. It does not matter what you want to call them the statics don't lie and having first hand experience treating the animals that have been attacked or people's injuries is enough proof in itself. I guess the pitbull and parolees show should change their name and stop calling them pitbulls too cause they don't know anything about them either 😂😂😂. Instead of listening to the point people that are educated are trying to make about the dangers that come with owning these dogs you want to argue what a pitbull is.
Lololol no they don’t “switch.” I am not surprised this nonsense is cominf from a vet tech. Most of them don’t know their s h i t. The amount of times I’ve had to have the doctor correct them concerning blood tests, medicine doses, etc etc is unbelievable. Wow. That’s terrible. I’ve seen a pit bull attack an old man, and it was also a “good” Pitt bull that “never was aggressive before.” I’m always careful around them now.
There were just two pitbulls in a TN home that mauled - and kiIIed - the two children in the home, a 5 month old baby boy and a 2 year old baby girl. The mother tried to save the children, and she was put in critical condition. Husband came home and found their children d__d in the backyard. They claimed they had owned the dogs for EIGHT YEARS and had never had an aggressive incident from them. So I'm sorry but I can't NOT believe that they have a temperamental bloodline. Because quite frankly I don't often hear about golden retrievers or labradors doing these things at the rate you do pitbulls. And I'm an animal lover through and through. But also a realist. *Edit: okay y'all can we stop replying to this! I appreciate the feedback but the notifications are a lot 🙃 and ps. I wasn't being LITERAL about the golden retriever comment! It was just a figure of speech to say like think about how many breeds you don't hear about this kind of thing. My grandma and my dog were both attacked by pit bulls (on separate occasions) that were trained and around humans their entire lives. After working with that breed too, I’m very cautious around them. Your videos are so inspiring ❤

Having worked in animal welfare, I know how mean some people can be towards dog bite victims - always blaming the victim, being really vicious about it. So I really hope you're not dealing with hate.
I am so glad that you survived! I heard that you were an aspiring model at the time of this attack. I hope you will continue on this path because I think you are beautiful. I have been educating myself about pitbulls and the whole controversy surrounding them. The reason I'm doing this is because I lost a friend this week when her pitbull attacked and killed her. I hope to figure out a way to help others somehow and honor her memory while doing so. Never give up and stay safe.❤️
Brooklinn you have nothing to feel sorry about although I understand feeling bad your cousin lost a pet. For whatever reason the dog snapped and animal control is right, with an injury that severe to a person you don't take chances. My youngest son was bitten by a pitbull in the face when he was 5 and nearly lost his eye. Turns out it was the third bite drawing blood this dog had done. He was put down and I felt bad too in spite of the fact our friends hadn't let us know about the previous incidents with the dog before we went camping with them. :/ it is sad but they really are such powerful dogs. People think they can have this breed like any other. But they take special owners that will be extra vigilant with these dogs. That are really aware of their feelings. Pit bulls get fixated and owners think they are calm and observing. They don’t they are fixated because they are waiting to attack. My son’s girlfriend had a sweet pit bull she rescued years ago. The pittie was good with other dogs and cats and got along really well with her family’s older dog. Recently, the pittie snapped while playing with the family dog and attacked her and destroyed her jaw. The golden tried to fight back but was absolutely no match and suffered severe irreparable injuries all over. The family was devastated but there was no choice but to put them both down later that same day. It happened in an instant with no warning.
"Pitties" are not sweet. The sweet ones are false, they nearly always end up snapping over the tiniest shit/nothing. I'm glad that that thing is gone and won't be able to destroy anymore. I'm sorry to hear about the other dog tho, that's sad. People need to stop breeding and buying shitbulls
To think even one single person has tried to come at you sideways about the dog, blows my fucking mind. First and foremost - the outcome for the dog was never in your hands before, during, after the attack. The law around it, is the law, period. PERIOD. I think it’s amazing even if you were able to have a day, you were completely SELFLESS about it, when you didn’t have to be. Hi! I couldn't thank you enough for posting this series. Although we are struggling through different traumatic events, I can still relate and am so receptive to your positive outlook. Yes, we may look different now but that doesn't change how you choose to live your life - to find happiness in everything or feel sorry for yourself is your decision. I have been following your story since the beginning, but I was just recently diagnosed with Androgenic Alopecia this summer. My hair has been falling out in clumps which has changed my appearance entirely. This has been the biggest struggle to accept and overcome, so I thank you tremendously for sharing your experience and make me (and many others) feel much less alone.
Brooklinn, you are incredible. The fact that you are just gorgeous, and you have made it clear that what’s important is what’s on the inside, is so beautiful. Most girls that are as beautiful as you are would not have handled this with the grace and acceptance as you have. I vote for you for Miss America. No, wait, Miss Universe. They have got to make a movie. Write a book, Brooklinn. Some producer will buy the movie rights.

This also happened to my daughter when she was 12. She got bit in the arm, breast and stomach. It was her Uncle's dog. I'm so sorry that happened to you, it's a hard thing to go through. I'm glad you got through it you look happy and strong. Thank you for sharing your story.
Your response to this tragic event is inspiring and your willingness to share your story is even more inspiring. I remember one Christmas standing outside my grandparents farm house and seeing my grandmother's medium size dog lunge for my 13 yr old brother's throat as he bent over to pick up a log of firewood that we were loading onto the back of my grandfather's old pickup truck. It happened in an instance and there was absolutely no warning. I remember witnessing the dog (his name was Brownie) latch on to my brother's mouth area as my brother had instinctively lowered his head to protect his throat. The dog was pushing off of my brother's chest with his two front legs while he held onto my brother's mouth area. When the dog finally lost his grip (or my brother's face gave out) and dropped to the ground, he then jumped up and started flailing around the midsection of my brother. By the time my grandfather had stopped the attach, my brother's lower lip was completely torn off and the dog had torn through my brother's winter coat and flannel shirt and managed to lacerate his stomach area in several places. It took 88 stitches to sew the lower lip we saved onto my brother's mouth. It took 13 stitches to sew up one wound on his stomach and another 8 or 9 stitches to sew up another wound on his stomach. The veterinarian surmised that given the dog's age (12)k9igcqx the dog was experiencing some sort of dementia given his age of 12 years. The ER staff noted that Christmas time is the number one time of the year for dog bites as many small children are visiting grandparents that have dogs not accustomed to children or for that matter any strangers in the house. I am 63 yrs old now and have never forgotten that moment. My brother had several surgeries a year or two after the initial medical procedures in an attempt to clean up some of the scarring. Unfortunately my brother was killed in a motorcycle accident when he was 17 yrs old so I cannot report how it looked later on. But because of that experience that I described, I have never allowed my own dogs (yes I am a dog lover) around any children unless I am RIGHT THERE monitoring the situation.
God I'm sorry you had to go through this. It must have been so bad to go through something like this while feeling guilty a part of your family had to be put down. I admire you so much, please don't feel guilty about what happened. ♡
I appreciate you sharing this very personal and traumatic experience with others, and for being so candid. My coworker’s daughter had an almost identical injury from a friend’s Cocker Spaniel. Her injury happened over 30 years ago and her treatments and results were much less sophisticated back then. I’m amazed at the incredible outcome and artistry of the surgeons involved in your care. As gorgeous as your face is, your inspirational attitude and spirit are even more beautiful. ✨💖✨
When I was little, I had a Cocker Spaniel and a Pitbull and I think it's "funny" how the Spaniel was aggressive toward certain people for no reason while my Pitbull was the gentlest dog in the world. My Spaniel went after my mom, cousins, and uncle for little to no reason.
You are so strong, inspirational and I have a lot of admiration with how you are dealing with this traumatic event and your journey. I've been sick my whole life and now I'm 44 and terminal. Whenever people say how strong I am I tell them I can either mope around and feel sorry for myself or fight for my life every day. I have lived for twelve years when my lifelong specialists told me I have two at the most. I've just been diagnosed with breast cancer and was recently a victim of a break in and assult. Both of my parents died recently leaving me with no family so it's not easy but I choose to be as positive as I can be. Xx

Hi, This is kind of unrelated but I felt like commenting. I worked as a vet assistant for 1.5 years. In my time I started fearless of dogs (I grew up around them), and by the end of it I am now so aware of the animals abilities and strength and have grown a bit of a fear. I had to actually leave the field because of problems. Not all vets but the unsafe working conditions of the vet field is what formed this fear for me. They hire in new people to the field and have not a lot of safety at all put into place. A lot of people there have egos and think they are dog whisperers and put the employees at so much risk, or they are so much in a rush to get things over with you are put at risk daily. I got bit three times throughout my time as an assistant/tech. Each time was so scary and hurt and was always due to lack of safety. Yet if you tried to advocate for safety people looked down on you or even did not take me seriously. I ended up growing such a huge fear of dogs and it was taking such a huge toll being put in flight or fight mode everyday holding down dogs with no real safety and just praying the dog wasn’t going to snap. It really hurt me to leave the field because I love animals and was good at my job. I hope the vet field progresses and safety is put in place and actually a law. I saw many people get hurt and it’s swept under the rug. I saw animals abused. I saw a lot. I wish there was better laws out there. Against breeding, the vet, everything. People like to look at dogs etc as innocent animals unable to damage, and although dogs are a beautiful animal and do offer a lot, they are capable of real, life threatening damage. And we should acknowledge that. Anyways thank you for speaking on your experience.
This is facts! I work at a vet hospital and vet clinic and there are definitely problems when it comes to restraint, not using muzzles/ cones, and people not wanting to sedate their animals because they have a "good dog". Good dogs will snap under stress at the vet, no doubt! a dog that has never bit before can and will bite at the vet, especially if they are in for an emergency or are in pain. People do not understand this, your dog can be dangerous, even if it has never bit you. Also these facilities need to prioritize safety. I have also been bit by the nicest dog, or so I thought, and now treat every dog (and cat) as if it is going to bite me, even if they don't seem it. It is too freaking risky. And i still get comments from people "well he has been nice so far" or "Oh I don't think he needs a muzzle" even when I can outwardly read their body language is uncomfortable. It's a horrible situation to be placed in, it's all fun and games until you get bit, and then you get blamed for it. its sad.
I so can relate to the fear...I adored every dog until my friends 5yr old daughter was mauled to death by a neighbours pitbull ...I now keep my distance and I absolutely hate it when people have their dog on a leash and let my toddler in a pram try to pat it ...I am always saying no ..they always say the dog loves kids ..until they don't
Brooklinn, Thank you for sharing your story and having a positive attitude toward a difficult situation. I was attacked by my friend's Huskey in August 2022 and it was a traumatic experience for me. It bit me on my chin and arm. Thanks to God the scar is almost unnoticeable at this point, but things could have been a lot worse. Unfortunately, my friend did not react as responsibly as your family did when it came to the safety of others, so I am glad to hear that everything was resolved peacefully in your situation. This gave me some hope and I appreciate you for that!
You have nothing to feel bad about. Keeping an aggressive dog alive puts everybody at risk. If it had gotten to a small child, I can’t even imagine. Unpredictable and dangerous dogs are not worth risking a human life. I’m so glad you’re choosing to live life to the fullest! You are beautiful!

It actually makes me angry that people are so hell-bent on protecting their special breed of dog that they've decided to wave their flag for, that they ignore life-altering attacks like what happened to you and think we shouldn't even be allowed to talk about it. I agree, it is sad for everyone involved and it's sad the dog had to be put down, but even a human being who did this to someone else would not just be allowed to walk free afterwards. Yes, I feel for the animals, and I don't think they have any ill intent, but we also have a duty to protect people (and other animals!) from them. I'm sorry that on top of the inherent difficulty you already faced with this situation, you also had to deal with people's fragile egos that are for some reason wrapped up in the reputation of a dog breed. You contradicted yourself saying a human who did this wouldn’t walk free but then go on to say the dog had no ill intent. That’s the point. The dog was acting on instinct, he didn’t do it maliciously like when a human blatantly attacks another human. That’s the difference here. It’s very sad that he had to be put down but it makes sense of course and the victim in this is Brooklyn. She said she doesn’t have anything against dogs and yet people are pretty much saying pit bulls she be rounded up and killed now.
While I understand and mostly agree with what you are saying, the one problem is that ALL DOGS do this, however the pit bull attacks are the only ones highlighted so they are the only ones in the news etc. I LOVE ALL DOGS but I fully trust NO DOG, not even my own that I've had for 8 years, raised with children and babies. I chose to not be ignorant about him and to recognize that he is an animal first, yes he is part of my family and sleeps in my bed with me, but I don't let kids get in his face for kisses and I don't let little ones tug on his fur/ears and do things that other people say "oh look my dog is so good because my baby can sit on him and bounce on him" HELL NAW that is stupid! Too many people chose stupidity when it comes to dogs. Trying to act like they think like a human. Anyhow I got off on a tangent but none of it was directed towards Brooklyn what happened to her was not at all her fault and not the dogs fault either, the dog has animal instincts and they kicked in for whatever reason. Maybe the dogs saw her eyes just right and they looked aggressive or maybe she was tlaking and showed her teeth just right.....we will never know why that dog snapped but it goes to show no matter how good your dog is.....don't be ignorant and always respect them as an animal first. I have a pit bull. I can tell you even though he's being being raised right I can see traits in him that even with a week of possibly being without me and in another's care or him being unsure of his environment he could easily turn. It's something I didn't experience when I had a staffordshire previously and I prefer staffordshires personally. Pitbulls are good guard dogs but a lot of dogs are. Too many of them are being bred. Its a breed you must breed only with the best of temperaments. Unfortunately there are too many pits out there.
i think alot of it has to do with shitty breeding of pitbulls - maybe even breeding that has furthered these agressive traits. because really a pitbull was never meant to be a guard dog or agressive to humans at all, and well bred pit bulls arent agressive to humans (they are dog agressive though, and will probs kill smaller animals too) also for a while the pit bull has for whatever reason been pushed as being a 'nanny dog' which makes people get them who are not in a position to manege them properly. because agressive dogs of any kind should not be kept as a pet in a suburban area with other dogs, children, small animals nearby.

My brother was mauled by a pit bull when he was around 3 years old. He was out playing in the fenced yard and a pitbull got into the yard and started mauling him. My uncle went running out and got my brother from the dog. Thankfully he got him away before any major injuries happened. The dog mostly thrashed him around and rolled him around using his paws. It reminded everyone of like how a cat plays with its prey before killing it.

It’s happened several times here in Southern California. We know someone whom had a pit bull, nicest dog ever, thought it was a lap dog. Then they had a baby. That pit bull guarded that’s baby like it was her own. For 2 years that pit protected that baby. Then one day out of the blue, the baby made a noise and the pit bull attacked and killed her. I am not a dog person at all and my son is extremely afraid of all dogs. We won’t go to anyone’s house that has a pit bull. It’s their choice if they want a pit, but it’s also our choice to keep our son away from them. You just never know when they or any dog will turn.

Breeding them was a monumental mistake and I sincerely hope that they all die out soon. the thing is that dogs typically will give warning, the problem is that too many ppl don’t know how to speak dog and don’t know what to look for or read a dogs body language and as a result these things happen and the dog is labeled bad, but ultimately what it comes to is: how was the dog raised and does the owner know how to communicate effectively with their dog, not saying dogs never attack without warning but “no provocation or without warning”its not as common
My 11 year old daughter was attacked by a friends pitbull in Sept 2022 completely unprovoked. It grabbed her left cheek and started to shake her like a rag doll narrowly missing her eye, it was horrific. The scars are all down her face to her jawline.

Our dog was a cockapoo and snapped into an unpredictable psycho. It happens more than people think and we were victim blamed for putting him down instead of giving him away. Being betrayed in such a deep way by an animal you care for that deeply is tough by itself. What a horrible situation. I'm so glad you survived and were somehow able to handle it with such grace.
My cat was wild and feral and very big for a domestic cat I found her in the street and she tried to attack me and the other cats I have, I worked with her and trained her and persisted in helping her I would never think of putting an animal down, but this is the modern world and I guess people do whatever is convenient...it's a shame

Secondly, that was your choice to take ownership of the risk attached, if this family knew they could no longer house that dog, then how could they in good conscience pass the dog onto another home (keeping in mind that not everyone is willing or able to do what you did) My dogs dad attacked my daughter, split her cheek wide open, we were meant to take the dog upon my dad's death, but obviously couldn't do that, so my cousin took the dog, only for him to attack her daughter a month later, he was then put down. You insinuating that its a casual choice is not necessarily correct.

My neighbour's pitbulls were sadly raised as guard dogs and are really aggressive. They were never let inside the house, they were never taken out for a walk either and they were trained to attack. I don't want to sound rude but these dogs have become killing machines. The look in their eyes when they see my beagle...It's terrifying.

Being an advocate for dogs and dog rescue I have fostered many pit bull dogs. In fact, my picture shows me WITH one of my many foster dogs I have had throughout the years. I've fostered somewhere in the neighborhood of 37 pit bull breed dogs. What happened to you is absolutely horrifying and I am so sorry you are having to go through the ordeal of facial reconstruction and disruption in your life. I have to say you are a trooper and doing it beautifully by the way! When a dog is that unpredictable and unsafe it is in the best interest of everyone (dog included) to humanely euthanize. Many dogs have behavioral issues that can be successfully addressed but what that dog did to you is unacceptable under ANY circumstances and that dog could never have been trusted or safe around anyone ever again. Please do not feel bad or responsible for the decision made to end that dog's life. The best and ONLY option was to euthanize. Anyone with any sense would agree. Take care, sweetheart. I wish you the very best and a full recovery.
If that was me with the mauled lip, after I killed that dog that attacked me, I'd walk over to your ranch, pick out the pitbulls like the Hutus did with the Tutsis, and the slaughter them. Then I'd move on the next house
Have you ever had any issues with any of the 37 pits you have cared 4? I have a pit that I love so much. So far so good. But that's in the back of mind sometimes. If he may turn one day....

Thank you for sharing this my granddog is a Staffordshire and here in Miami Dade County it's a real no no...I actually grew up with the kid that had the law passed because he lost a leg to a pit bull...Anywho, I play with him the dog, not the dude and he is the most gentle soul...butttt there is a moment I see his eyes change that I realized this dog is still an animal and anything could happen....

I mean, pitbulls aren't the dogs with the most attacks, golden retrievers are. Pitbulls are reported on more because their history of being used for fighting.
@@AccidentallyOnPurpose Mortality rate for pitbull attacks is key here. It's the fact that they are VERY strong, literally bred for fighting. I'm not saying their mother/father grandmother/grandfather ancestry were bred for fighting, but their entire lineage was bred for it. Only the strongest, most aggressive. That strength and temperament is undeniably critical when it comes to this argument. Show me 1 golden (that wasn't a golden bred with a bully) that has attacked and killed someone and I could show you 200 pitbull stories for each one. Why play with fire? Sure you may not get burnt playing with the fire but MANY have and you COULD. It's fire.

You are more gracious than I.Neighbor across the alley was given young pitbull by another neighbor who said couldn't keep it, then got 2 more!! Anyway, the liver and white dog was chained out and was barking none stop, no interactions except the chihuahua that ran loose from same house and terrorized neighborhood. pitbull got loose a LOT and my 2 leashed dogs barked it off up till one day it bit my sweat pants when out without a dog but in front of owner. It was surrendered same day as I am disabled and use cane. Daughter got it back, has been loose charging people and again attempted to bite me but big dog blocked the attack and got bit on left rear leg, didn't fight was intent on getting me into house while waving cane at it. While animal control has dithered for nearly a month it has attacked a child and gone after my smaller dog who wants to attack it right back... don't want the vet bill. I want the dog so gone...thing is there are young kids in that house.
I've been attacked by two dogs in my lifetime...they were both pit bulls. The first one was so scary. It got out of the house and attacked my sister and I and then it even attacked its owner. Terrifying. I won't even pet one now. Ever.

Pits were bred for bloodsports. To me its no surprise that they end up biting people. As someone who has owned 4 pits, never will again. Their body language is extremely subtle and they can go from 0-100 real quick. So sorry you had to experience this
All breeds have specific characteristics that are bred into them. No one attacks people who talk about how Australian Shepherds have to be kept very active or they go nuts BECAUSE they are bred for herding. Pits have been bred for fighting, for attacking and hanging onto large prey until it stops breathing. Expecting a dog that has literally been bred for this purpose to NOT succumb to his genetics is like swimming with an alligator and being shocked when it grabs you, barrel rolls you and holds you under water until you drown.
When I was little I had gotten my top lip nearly bitten off by our lab dog we rescued. I am so lucky mine was able to be stitched back on, although I have some scars and a crooked cupidsbow.

The stigma is correct. Why do we have a domestic animal around that kill or harm so many people every year. It is insanely stupid and inconsiderate to own a pit bull.
That’s not true. The stigma is now well warranted , any dog can attack. These dogs were just bred for fighting so you have to be more considerate, but I’ve dealt with pits more than any other breed , from literal puppies and I haven’t gotten so much as a scratch.
@kneeger I do have a scratch for playing with a pit who’s nails were too long. She jumped on me while I was sitting it literally had no malicious intent. And side note, whining about a scratch is so pathetic
My step daughter was attacked by a Pitt bull when she was 3. It ripped her entire cheek off. Terrible situation. It was her mom's cousins dog If I remember correctly. I'm definitely cautious around pittbulls. My bestfriend has had 2 of them. One was a total sweetheart. The other despite intensive training began getting extremely aggressive and attacking her other dogs and then almost attacked her friends daughter. No one was willing to adopt this dog and the shelters said if it showed aggression they would immediately put it down. It was like there was something wrong In this dogs head. It was extremely sweet to me but horrible with other dogs and anyone he didn't know. She had to eventually put him down. It broke her heart and she refused to ever get another pit bull.
I saw a pit bull attack. A lady was outside of her home with her small dog. About 100-150 meter far was a pit bull with his owner. The pit bull saw the small dog and started to run and accelerate! The owner has no power over the pit bull, nothing could stop that dog!!!!In a few minutes the small dog was in pieces just before my eyes!
