Good times in the early to mid-70s when the local CBS affiliate in Kansas City would show the five theatrical films as “Ape Week” in the afternoon movie slot. It actually doesn't take place in 3085. After the crash, the spaceship's chronometer reads 3085, however Alan states this was just the date when it stopped working and can't be relied on to be an accurate current date. Zaius mentions the arrival of other human astronauts ten years earlier (referring to Taylor), putting the date just after the original movie.

@rumblehat4357
@rumblehat4357 4 месяца назад
The problem with it is, it can’t be the same Dr. Zaius. There was no attempt to make the two characters look the same (even though thy were two different actors, the makeup could have at least been made to look the same,) the original two films took place on the east coast, the tv series on the west coast, communication between the coasts was probably non-existent, and no character from the films appears in the tv show (except Zaius, who I believe really isn’t the same character.) in addition, they were all dead after the first two films when people couldn’t speak, but in the tv series they could. The show must take place in the time loop between Battle For the Planet Of The Apes and the original film. The reference to other astronauts doesn’t make sense unless it happened a third time. None of this adds up to him being the same Dr. zaius. Possibly the tv show Zaius is an ancestor, or maybe just a more common name? Timeline repeating time loop: 3084 TV series 3950 POTA 3955 Beneath 1973 Escape 1991 Conquest 2001 Battle for 2600 Lawgiver speech bookending Battle 3979 Cartoon Cycle repeats. The odd one out is the cartoon. It features Zira, Cornelius, Zaius, Yet takes place in the timeline after the earth is destroyed. Unless it’s a separate timeline. It would have made more sense had it taken place a few years before the tv series. At least then it COULD be what Zaius refers to as astronauts landing a few years before in the tv series. I’m saying the tv show HAS to occur long before the original film before humans lost the power of speech and intelligence.

The TV series was hugely popular in the UK. It was shown on Sunday evenings, late 1974. It think it was networked by ITV, which was unusual for an imported series. The repeats, however (around 1975 and '76), were shown regionally, scheduled in various slots by the different ITV companies. But the fact it got a repeat run indicates how popular it had been (again, a little unusual for an imported series). I don't know how much potential it had to continue for longer - but then, 'on the run'-type series can keep on delivering descent episodes for quite some time.

Most of the time back then most shows were episodic, and not a story arc, except for soap operas. It made them easier to sell because it didn’t matter if you missed an episode. We came upon the location for the tv show. As a 14 year old it was a great experience. The crew was on edge as every time they set up a shot, an airplane or boat or a stray cloud would throw the director into an angry fit and yelled "CUT". The scene was a eulogy being said while apes surrounded a grave stone.

The Logan series was also getting better as it went on.... really the world was a little bitty bit closer to the second book....we need a Real Logan Run movie... with CGI it could happen... just my opinion

That was awesome! I was 5 when I saw "Conquest" at the theater in '72 and wanted to be Caesar so bad; loved this show as a kid; had all the toys, coloring books, comics/magazines etc, but for the life of me can't recall ever seeing those older Galen spots on TV--thank you for showing that, I'm gonna try and find them all!

Dan, I had always believed that "franchise fatigue" did this show in. It is the reason why Superman does not sell as well anymore. People are tired of the same old Superman and really do not like change either. Some things just run their course. Do you not think so? Happy to see your channel growing.

Yeah, it could be. But remember the movies were really popular at this point. I just think putting it on Friday night was a death sentence. Tuesdays at 7:30 might have been a whole different show.

I remember with fondness this fascinating series that stimulated my imagination every week. Many of the storylines were intriguing and I was saddened to one day look for the show only to see it was gone. I never saw the Roddy McDowell as aged Galen movies and I would have enjoyed this immensely. I hope they release the series in the collection it deserves. This was a fun episode and if this is the usual fare then I am subscribing too.

The tv series was hugely popular in the U.K. and this led to a British weekly reprint comic of the contents of the Marvel monthly being so popular that it encouraged Marvel to keep printing the American monthly even as sales declined. There were also three hardcover Annual books published with new U.K. material based on the tv shows.

I am VERY surprised that you got it in 1974! Here in the USA , it was Fall 1974. I wonder if you got it LATE in 1974. UK normally gets USA shows MUCH later. And vice versa. We did not get Monty Python until 1975/76. But we did get Space : 1999 when it was brand new.

While perusing comics online I happened upon the Planets comics and got caught up in the tales of the fugatives Jason and Alexander. The human and chimpanzee who had to work together to survive. Great stories. I have the boxset of the tv series. I enjoyed seeing how the actors in the simian costumes and makeup worked their prosthetic masks to simulate facial expressions. They were very creative performers.

Btw As I'd submitted on IMBD In Planet of the Apes Comics by Malibu Graphics there was a comic of which tells how a Bubble picked up some wolves and saved them from the plague so I pointed out in the TV-Series how this can be the excuse /explanation for dogs running around in another episode like how that ape boy had a dog in the 1st episode of the P.O.T.A. TV-series.

@rsler63 4 месяца назад
If it was done today it wouldn't be the same. At least to me. However, there are good short stories on it and the movies. Specifically in the 2017 book "Planet of the Apes: Tales of the Forbidden Zone," edited by Rich Handley and Jim Beard. The one story on the TV series was good but left you hanging. It was suppose to be continued in a sequel to the book, but Beard told me the 2nd book idea was dropped.

4:00 Battle takes place very early in the 21st century. It occurs only a few years after Conquest which takes place in the 1990s. There is one scene that takes place around 2600, that is the narrator, the Law Giver, who is telling the story of Battle centuries later.

Got the DVD Boxed Set which includes the never aired episode. Like many others, I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and loved this. It’s funny how time plays tricks on your mind. I always thought there were loads of episodes and imagined that there were 2 or 3 series, until I bought the boxed set and found out that it was cancelled early on. Still, there are a heck of a lot of guys in their early 60’s and late 50’s who remember this programme fondly.

I watched this series when it came out, and bought a novelization or two of the series. Surprised it was cancelled so soon, but your comments about the scripting rings true. Most memorable scene to me: Urko : Ahh yes. I seem to remember hearing something vaguely about that; *Brain washing*. Isn't that where you take the brain out of the skull and wash it with cool water? Wanda : No, no. You don't take the brain out of the skull. Urko : You don't - Well how can you wash the brain if you don't take it out of the skull?
