Speaking of merchandise, Star Ace has been producing an incredible line of Ray Harryhausen creations in the past few years. I have Medusa, Pegasus, The Kraken, Bubo and the skeleton warriors from Jason and The Argonauts. They are almost identical to the original puppets.

So it turns out the sale of Robbie the Robot earned several times more than the box office total of the actual film? That’s so funny and sad at the same time.

This brings back memories. I saw the original movie in the theater with my mom when I was a little kid, had the play set when it came out in the mid 60s. It came with the sub and the six or eight wheeled tractor too. It was yellow and grey. I remember the tv series as well as the time tunnel. I wish I still had the play set. I also had a fireball XL5 set. Cool stuff!!

Why was Tatiana Maslany in that graphic with Kirk and Spock? She wasn't even born until 1985. 🤔

I used to have a model of the INVADERS space ship....it was painted silver on the outside .You were able to take the top off to reveal the space ship's bridge which was completely red.

Forty three years ago I was talking to a guy that had recently visited the studios. His impression was that they had trashed the models after filming, because he found them out in the trash, so he helped himself to a piece of that big model. For all I know, a piece of that model could still be around today.

Remembering the night “Voyage…” pilot/ movie premiered I wondered why can’t the real submarines be as cool as “Seaview”. Once in the 1960’s on Carson’s Tonight show, David Hedison (maybe Richard Baseheart) were guest and talk went to the “flying sub” and mentioned the USN was interested (supposedly, just like the USAF was supposedly interested in the Lost in Space Robot only to inform them there was a man inside)

Hi Dan, great job as always. In the original movie and in the first season, the Seaview had 8 front windows. Then in season 2 the front was redesigned and now had 4 windows. Q: Did they do cosmetic work on the original 17ft model or was a 2nd 17ft model built?

I would love to have the prop of the Alien spacecraft from the Quinn Martin show “The Invaders” that is a classic! Great show too… Wish they could have gotten a series wrap up show… They came close though, if I remember correctly…lots of dead brain cells between then and now…. 😁

I was a teenager in the 70's, and I had and still have a crush on Darren McGavin, he also appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Mike Hammer, Hangar 18, just to name a few, he was born William Lyle Richardson 05/07/1922. I always thought he was very masculine. I'm almost 70 and old crushes never die!

It was Roy Thinnes' performance that not only helped inspire the feel of the X-Files but also landed him the role of Jeremiah Smith. Also the sound effect and the ray blast itself of the alien's ray guns are still my favorite in all of science fiction.

In 1982, I joined the military and volunteered for the submarine service. When I got out of boot camp and was transferred to the submarine training facility, one of the first questions in class was why did you want to beyond submarines? One of the new recruits answers was that he wanted to be on a flying submarine and get stationed on the seaview. I had to bite the inside of my lip until it bled to keep from laughing my tail off!

Thanks Dan for your amazing videos!!! The props of the sci fi ships you cover have been live long obsessions for me! Especially appreciative of the the Planet of the Apes Spaceship deep dive you made, amazing video! Quick question on the Seaview. I always wondered why some models had four large windows and others had eight. Great ship. My favorite was of course the flying sub. Had the Aroura model (along with the Spindrift and 2001 Space Odessey Moon Bus and Pan Am Clipper... Big fan of Fireball XL5, your RU-vid Channel totally rocks!!

@MoviesMusicMonsters A tidbit to include in your deep dive of the ship, if it isn't too late to be included: in the movie _'Serenity'_ which is based in the television show _'Firefly,'_ those paying attention to background details will notice that the ship responsible for starting the, umm,... medical problem...on the planet Miranda is the C-57D. A deliberate tip of the hat.

Fun stuff! I recently re-watched the first few seasons of Voyage... The first season(s) were more politically themed, then they got into the silly monsters. I kinda liked the in between seasons. The flying sub was THE COOLEST!! Even though I knew it woulda fallen to bits if it really zoomed directly from the air into the sea. ;-) Such a magical time. 🙂

In 1977 I was walking in UCLA's Boelter Hall and as I rounded a corner I came face to face with Robbie. Talk about being surprised! Engineering students had rented him and were working on his wiring. I was sternly warned to stay away and not touch him. I assume it cost a lot to rent him.

I loved the Time Tunnel. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea also, but not quite as much. But a must watch as a kid. Though, my absolute favorite was The Man from U.N.C.L.E. That was my lunchbox! Wish I still had it. Being blonde as a kid I even went as Illya Kuryackin one Holloween (I had a Mattel "Radio/Rifle" cap-gun).
