@@ok0123lol Nadege had a very beautiful face, more of a besuty then Claudia Shiffer was, but i guess like with everything else, that it helps to know someone with the status and power to make you famous, like Karl Lagerfeldt helped Claudia
I love it how most of the comments and the reason people clicked on the video was for Yasmeen Ghauri. As much as we admired her trailblazing work, I suppose we have to accept that she has no designs on coming back to the fashion industry. From modeling, to marriage, and motherhood, and that's her focus now. Good luck Yasmeen, wherever you are. You have a bunch of fans who will continue to admire your work, and thank you for being a professional and fearless trailblazer.
@@myspiritanimaliscat2609 Emily Ratajkowski recently wore the 1992 Atelier Versace dress that Yasmeen wore at the 2022 MET Gala. Apparently, she is obsessed with Yasmeen. Even Yasmeen posted it on her IG stories.
It's so sad to see Yasmeen and Carla too fast to get retired from the modeling industry. Both of them could still on the rise of their career during 2000's era with Naomi if they still became a Supermodel at that time.
Careers as a "supermodel" are just this way! The reasons are many. The designers want teenagers, ideally. The fashion industry is very cruel and throws beautiful people away before their time as newer, younger models are ambitious and want to be the next "IT" girl or boy. And as one ages, your looks change, your body changes and perfection is the name of the game.
Carla still models occasionally though at a much lesser extent. She has done 3 runway shows post 90s (for D&G, Versace and YSL), still lands covers and editorials on fashion magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, Marie Claire, Grazia, L'Officiel, and has been the face of some campaigns like Burberry, D&G and Bulgari.
Yasmeen is always in the moment on the runway, no tension no stress just in the zone and it captivates us. Other supermodels may be big cause they turned themselves into celebrities and courted the media but Yasmeen is the people's favourite.
Yasmeen has always been my very favorite. No other model comes close. From hair to face to body, Yasmeen was the most versatile in looks and incredible figure, unlike any other model. Gorgeous waistline and broad shoulders!
The 90s were definitely the best era of supermodels. Natural beauty, elegance, and poise. Also, diversity of races became very common in runways. These days between filters, plastic surgery, and how influential your family is plays a big roll in becoming a model.
There’s a video on ig with an interview with Carla Bruni, she said in Italian that 1997 designers weren’t booking her cause she was too “old” to model and to lower her price, as the fashion world was moving away from the supermodel era.
I'd say they almost even. Naomi is the black queen and Yasmeen is the lighter queen. But NOBODY can sishshay down the catwalk like Yasmeen ...hands down.
Nadja, who's my favourite model next to Yasmeen Ghauri, now lives in Dresden and is married (with 4 kids from 3 different hubbies), but still models from time to time. Last year she was on the cover of Vogue Italia. One of her daughters is also a model, and sometimes they model together. Nadja also participated in one of the last projects of Peter Lindbergh.
Yasmeen retired and chose family over fashion, marrying lawyer Ralph Bernstein and retiring from modeling. They live in Bedford, New York, with their daughter, Maia, and son, Victor. She clearly wanted a soccer mom life and never wanted to be a model. Today, Yasmeen focuses her attentions on fundraising for environmental causes and breast cancer research. Hope this helps:)
Thank you so much, Pelli for this video. I am doing a Yasmeen Ghauri tribute video and hope you don't mind I use a clip of this. Wonderful videos on your channel, I am a faithful subscriber. Great work!
Yasmeen had the most drama free, simple and quiet life after her career. It's why there's barely any photos or media of her in more recent years, she's living it up in peace, good on her.
Yasmeen Ghauri was everything……….stunning, alluring, captivating, exquisite, that walk…once in a life time…incredible intellect. Stuck to her boundaries re what she would and would not wear👑👑👑👑👑👑👑
Never liked Carla, she aged badly. Both Naomi & Tyra said Yasmeen had the best runway walk. Tyra said Yasmeen taught her how to find the best light & that she would lie on her back on the floor to apply her make up if the ceiling lights were the best.
Tyra's walk was polarizing. At times great, at times completely inappropriate and unprofessional, as she was selling herself more than selling the clothes. Way too bubbly and clown like. But she looks amazing in her recent Skim campaign with her fellow VS cohorts Heidi, Alessandra, and Candice, who was not there when Tyra was in VS.
Thank you Pelli with your super examination of these wonderful Supermodels. I miss seeing them. Today's models cannot compare to their glamor in my point of view. Your review of them is very well done.
@@PelliFashLife Thank You so much cause watching 90s supermodels always made my day! Btw Im a new subscriber! Hope you have a great day as great as your videos! More power to your channel! ❤️
Can you do a video on Veronica Webb, Beverley Peale and other top black models from the 1990s. They didn't get to Naomi's icon status, bu they were around and popular.
Update on Yasmeen Ghauri: She finally is on IG, and who knows, maybe with the resurgence of so many veteran supermodels back in the runway, campaigns, and magazine covers, she might one day think of doing a come back. All we need is now Karen Mulder. 🤞🤞
Yasmeen ghauri is my favorite supermodel of all time and she definitely deserved so much more but I think she wanted a private life which is understandable but imagine if she was into fame and everything? She would still be a A-list celebrity now a days but she was always humble, nice and even though being one of the best supermodels of the 90s it never got to her head and you can’t say that about many people
Hey! Thanks for the correction. I read somewhere that her mother was Jewish from Germany and that’s part of way she’s now married to a Jewish man. Thanks again. I’ll make sure to pin this. 🎀
@@PelliFashLife ahhh ok the way she explained it her mother also converted to Islam because her father was a sheikh, but she could be Jewish but from Germany. Love your videos btw 💗
@@StuckInThe80ssss i made sure to edit it out to not mislead anyone. And thank you! I’m learning this RU-vid thingy. And again I really appreciate your correction. 🎀🎀
I’m in good company here as a Yasmeen Ghauri super fan!! Such a stunningly beautiful woman whose walk is legendary. I wish we could see more of her. I’m going to guess she’s aging beautifully.
I grew up admiring these beautiful mentioned models of the 90s. Now they are all in their late 40s and early 50s. ....like me...Carla Bruni 53, Kate Moss 47, Nadja Auermann 49 and Yasmeen Ghauri 49. The 4 supermodels: Linda Evangelista 55, Christy Turlington 52, Cindy Crawford 54, and Naomi Campbell 50 y/o. Plus Tatiana Patitz 54 . More 90s models: Helena Christensen 52, Claudia Schiffer 50, Stephanie Seymour 52, and Karen Mulder 50. www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-peter-lindbergh-photo-launched-90s-supermodel-era.
I wonder how many of these models have gone under the knife early in their career, particularly those who want to appease the critics who claim they look too ethnic looking.
I love Yasmeen, doing a little archival research on her.Does anyone know if Yasmeen appeared in music video for the song'Sacrifice" Elton John early in her career? Thank you.
Hey! And yes she did appeared in that music video. It’s actually on RU-vid and you can also check her IMDb. It’s her only acting credit I think. And same I love yasmeen too 🎀
@leilalovesdad73 hey and yea I think so because she’s credited in both Wikipedia and IMDb for the song. I do also think she looks different in the video, it might be because it was in 1990.
Just to clarify....Yasmeen never appeared in the Elton John video. The Elton John channel wrongly put her name in the credits by his online team. The video was filmed in 1989 and Yasmeen was not internationally known by then as a model. Yasmeen had long hair in 1989 and cut her hair for the Autumn Winter 1991 runway shows. So it's not Yasmeen in the Sacrifice video.
@edrinacole73 it was credited on Elton John's channel and then it spread to Wiki, IMDB etc. Unfortunately the original source: Elton John's people running his channel got it wrong. It was not Yasmeen Ghauri in the video. Looking at modelling photos of Yasmeen in 1989 confirms this. Not once in any articles or interviews with Yasmeen in the 90s mentioned this video appearance because it wasn't her. She would have been 18 in 1989 when this was filmed. She had long hair and was barely on the modelling scene. The actress in the video looks like she is in her early 20s.
@edrinacole73 I stand firm on this matter I am 100% correct. They even miscredited the male model too. Its not Chris Isaaks as stated on wiki and IMDB. If you read the comments for the video somebody who was working on the video shoot confirmed its neither Yasmeen or Chris in the video.
@edrinacole73 No that's not my source, I can clearly see its not yasmeen in the video along with using the time line, yasmeen's age and appearance at the time. It all does not fit.
Hi Pelli, you mention in Yasmeen segment that she appeared in "Sacrifice" video, well, I'm getting replies from different people that it's not Yasmeen, So do you believe that's really Yasmeen Ghauri in the music video. It's important for me for some reasons. thank you.
Can you do one on Tatjana Patitz, Linda Evangelista and Kristen McMenamy and why they were such mesmerizing and iconic print models. I have posted my own take on Tatjana and Linda on Quora: www.quora.com/Who-is-or-was-the-best-looking-or-most-successful-model Feel free to review it, and let me know if you wanna do it.
Heyy!! thanks for the comment and suggestion. So right now I'm working on videos that aren't model related because I think I done too many and want to work on other topics too. I will definitely think about it though. but honestly if you ever wanted to I think you should start a youtube channel. You know what you're talking about and would do the topic justice. 💗💗💗 also i'm so busy with my job right now, I barley have time to work on videos 😭😭😭 so thanks for the comment. It keeps me motivated and the suggestion is very helpful. I wish you well.
You don't need to say the 90's supermodels, the supermodels is enough, as per the fashion bible wwd and industry insiders, the last supermodel was Gisele, and the true supers are Linda, Christy, Naomi, Cindy, Tatiana, Claudia, then Kate joined and by the time they were retired or retiring, Gisele. There are no other supermodels.
there are actually a lot of models in the early 2000s who should've been given the title 'Supermodel' if only the idustry itself gave them a dime; and a lot of 'em are better than those boring ass 90s Supermodels
I would add Tyra Banks. She booked 25 fashion shows at her first runway season in Paris, she took the industry by storm. She made a name for herself even though her body type had different plans for her. By 2000s Karolina Kurkova and Carmen Kass killed all the major runways.
