I am in Ireland and love that you highlighted the Dexter breed. It originated in Dundrum Co. Tipperary. That village has a great number of Dexters now. The owner sends the hides to Europe where the leather is tanned and made into wallets and purces. The bones are exported to make bone China. Maybe that might be a further enterprise for you. Love your content.

Good morning Pete! I mean this in the most genuine way possible. I don’t think your core audience actually cares what you are doing. We are here for you. You and your wife are such a breath of fresh air. I live 30 minutes north of Syracuse so it’s fun to see a “local” farm so close to home on RU-vid. I have just bought 14 acres of land and have 2 kids under 4. My husband and I have no intentions ever on rebuilding a tractor, or farming cows for that matter… but I love watching you. I work from home, put your new video on and listen to it as I type away. Do the animal videos interest me a little more? Yes. But I love your cheesy jokes, and your knowledge, how practical you are, etc. that I watch every single video regardless. Follow your heart on this RU-vid journey and your farm journey and we will be here waiting! Happy Wednesday 😁

That's cool, we are looking at moving to the Syracuse area! My wife has a remote job now, we are dissolving our farm in Oklahoma, and we've been house hunting around Syracuse and also down by Pete's area, as well. We are in a similar boat of hoping to find a few acres and a house, but no intention to farm at this time. Real estate is tough up there! We've had a realtor helping us look for about 6 months now to no avail, but I'm hoping spring may bring us something! And I agree, I watch Pete because I like him as a person, and I enjoy his educated views on life. The farm is a nice bonus and gives us something we can relate to. I love his approach to daily life, his deliberateness, thoughtfulness, and overall peaceful demeanor. It's a breath of fresh air in this world.

Pete, I have always love to watch you folks. My opinion is this. You do whatever you have to do to stay afloat. I've seen the bigger farm videos too. They are having the same problems. Trying to stay& keep afloat. It's always the ceo's who make the money& they don't do nothing. But yet they want their stuff& some times right now. It's the little guys who loss out in the end. And yet it's the small business that made the ceo's rich. They don't care where thire money comes from as long as they get it. So hang in thire my good friend !!!! GOD BLESS you & be with you as well !!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Pete, as someone that grew up on a dairy farm in New York, every winter was spent in the shop working on equipment to get it ready for spring and summer. I think you’re doing a great job at showing how true farming is done on a small family farm scale. I remember how we had to make those tough decisions and stop raising some animals and move to what was more profitable to keep the farm going. Keep up the good work and stay focused on Jesus. He will never lead you astray.

Im a bit older too.. I was “ cityfolk” , but got the privilege of living & working on a horse ranch for over two years! I sure learned a lot and worked in all weather .. I’ve bucked my share of hay & turned windrows to dry with an old wood hay rake. AND all the other chores involved. Overall it was one of the Best experience of my life! Nothing like greeting the sun with a cup of coffee & my dog, heading out to feed everyone & clean up after them too. No fat on my arms back then lol! ! If I could have made a living at what I was doing back then , I would have stayed on. I really enjoy this channel too!

Hi Pete, As many have commented, we love your channel because of you! Your authentic common sense ways. The hubby has been a heavy truck mechanic and fabricator for over 40 years and he loves the way you share step-by-step your repairs and restorations, he learns from you. I love the animals and the explanations of why you do what you do with them. I have been enjoying the slow-life end bits of the animals resting, roosting, and being safe and comfortable. So I recommend you keep sharing what you are comfortable sharing and topics that bring you joy.

Happy New Year to you and Hilary. Pete, I think my feelings about your channel is echoed by many of the comments already posted. However, I just wanted to say that I believe like myself the vast majority of your viewers enjoy your content just as it is, it's your channel after all not mine or anyone else's, especially those who seem to think they can advise you (tell you) how it ought to be. If you're at all unsure on which way the channel ought to be, I would suggest listening to the silent majority as they obviously feel all is good and there's over 400,000 of them and only a few complainers. What I really enjoy is the enthusiasm and husbandry skills that you and Hilary have, the variety of the farm as well in the videos themselves; I like them all even the mixed ones, after all you have what we called in the UK a mixed farm. Finally, hopefully the pig market picks up as they’re one of the high lights for me. Thank you for your channel and the integrity and with that, stay true too you.

I am dittoing others’ comments. We are in our 70s: my husband grew up on an Ohio farm. I grew up in Jamestown NY in grape country. I wore short pants the first time I met his parents and they put me on a trailer collecting bales of hay. These days we are simply retired from occupations in the public sector. We simply tune in as part of your core group to listen to you, Pete. We aren’t leaving and will follow you to the barns, the fields and to your workshop. You are the man.

I don't know how other farmers/homesteaders do things but for me winter is the time I use to work on all my tools and machinery. Yes I still have to feed water and check on critters, but for the most part I would prefer to be indoors rather than outdoors. I live aprox. I hour from the Canadian boarder so winter time is cold. I should have included this. You will lose viewers who don’t agree with what I said, but that’s okay too as you’ll get new viewers. RU-vid in itself is a full time job. That is the reason, along with my personality, that I choose to not do it myself. I’m okay with a town job and then having the farm. We know firsthand the costs of raising pigs, cattle and chickens and share your pain as we determine to keep our leave certain aspects of the business. So far, we are still all in as it also provides for our family. The regulations that impact our ability to sell privately are discouraging and costly too. So, chin up and do what you do best-teach us, like you have for the last several years. Thank you.

I grew up on a traditional dairy farm in central New York, capital region. Our farm went down with a great many of others in the late 70s and after that I moved away. Now, at 53, I've rediscovered my love of farming and my desire to leave this legacy for my son. You have shown me that it's entirely possible to do this. Every video you post is affirmation to me of that possibility. I'm late to this. We started building up in 2021. We have our mini farm in Missouri and we're set to ramp up this summer. You are one of our examples of possibilities. I hope you keep with us for years to come. Thank you Peter.

I've been helping my in laws farm since 2009. We primarily raise soybeans and corn. My father in law used to raise pheasants, but kinda transitioned more to chickens. Now, we raise quite a few meat birds, laying hens, some turkeys, and some hogs. Recently, my wife and I have started the process of buying their farm. I absolutely love what we do, but I've always enjoyed the small, farm to table type operations. I started researching different options and that's how I stumbled across your channel. I'm really glad that I did because I thoroughly enjoy it. I showed your channel to my father in law and he has become a fan too. I'm not partial to any specific topic or genre. I just enjoy watching the content you give us. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter what you post, because I find it all interesting. I've learned many different things from you over the last few years. I think that's one of the major reasons I keep tuning in. I still want to transition our farm more towards a farm to table type operation, but that's still a long ways out. When I do, there's certain aspects that'll be modeled after your operation. Thanks for putting in the work to share what you do with the rest of us. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Looking forward to the next video!

Hey Pete, I think we all appreciate your honesty about the channel. There are many people on RU-vid who would've stuck with pigs simply for the views even with it being unprofitable and unrealistic for the average farmer. I like the cyclical seasonal videos you do. It makes sense as winter is more of a slow season for you to fully jump into your hobbies and allow us to join you. Happy New Year!

Pete, I’m a bit older than you, but I look at each of your videos just like the farmer mentors that I had growing up. I remember going to the local diner nearly every morning with dad (maybe grandpa too) and shooting the breeze for an hour or so with other farmers and ag people. My dad used to say “you’ll learn more talking to the other guys there than any college degree will learn ya”. While I did go to a pretty good ag school, I think my dad was 100% correct. Different operations have different opinions on how to get things done. The hog guy learns from the beef guy and the green tractor guy can learn from the red tractor guy and so on. There are now three of us older guys at the diner every morning now trying to consciously revive that mentoring attitude with the younger guys, but it’s been difficult. Pete - I think you (and a few other RU-vidrs) have found that you can reach so many more in the industry and share just like at the diner. You are also blessed by your gentle style, to have the ability to bring along MANY other non-farmers and show what it is we are all about. Every video is much appreciated and we consider them a blessing.

I will continue watching any video you share. You and your wife are so down to earth, interesting, and just great people. I appreciate you guys so much. You are very enjoyable to listen to and I understand that sometimes you need a break. For many reasons, I will continue watching your videos and I also understand you are doing all you do to make a living. I thank you for your concern and appreciation of your audience. You are amazing. Take care and I'll see you in the next one. God bless.

We, hubby and I, love both seasons of your videos. The animals, out in the fields, etc is so much fun; watching you restore a piece of equipment is so informative and entertaining since we both enjoy that sort of thing. We LOVE the dad jokes. YOU are the main focus on your channel, what you do, how you do it, your philosophy, it's sharing YOU. Yes, time moves on and we all have to readjust what our life style is according to this, as you transition into your senior years that alone is a topic of interest to know how do you go from a fully active farm to a senior farm where you need to slow down and regroup - something every person walking into seniorhood faces. Your attitude towards life is an inspiration for many of us who struggle with the same ever changing life from our many points of view. No matter which way you take YOUR channel your core group will support you, numbers are indicators but need not be that important to cause you to shift for US, after all, your channel is about YOU so always stay true to YOU and you'll do well. Thank you for sharing your life with us you bring warmth into our lives by being YOU. Blessings

Hey Pete! Not sure if you'll see this but I've been following you for several years now. We started up our own place about 1 year ago. Hidden Valley Farmstead. Here's my feedback. Try a French drain off the barn. It will divert water but won't be the same issues as gutters. I do like your idea of adding fill dirt to that paddock. As far as all the options go. But I also know that putting a few trees in will help drain the water with their root system. Maybe a combination of both with a French drain would get that fixed? I love raising pigs as well. It is very little profit. Maybe you could set an acre aside to grow your own corn or soybean? Plus feed them hay? It won't cover all the feed but could reduce you feed costs overall and add in bought grain. Maybe go to a higher meat quality pig breed? Grow fewer and target a higher end custom? I do love Meishans and Mangalitza but they grow slow but I've been reading up on mixing them with a Berkshire or Duroc and you'll grow out quicker and still have a top notch carcass? Or, if you end the pigs, could you replace them with sheep? Turkeys are a hard one, I hear you there. I got into Bourbon Reds. Mostly because they are a high quality and I can target those customers but I can easily sell the chicks as well. So that gave me two ways of creating income. Eggs and meat birds are things that absolutely do sell well. We raised about 100 meat birds our first year and we are going to triple that easily this year. We grew out 8 feeder pigs. 3 and then 5 but there is so little profit. I will scale back on that this year but I am planning on bringing in a hair sheep. Because of you, I absolutely want to get into a couple Dexter's. But that will be down the road. Anyway, I absolutely love your channel!! You and country view acres are two of my top ones to watch, when I get some time lol. I still work full time but hopefully RU-vid and the farm will grow lol. Thanks again for all you do!!

Dear Pete, I have been a loyal viewer of your channel for quite some time now, eagerly anticipating each new video you release. Your content is truly exceptional and genuine. The way you care for and raise your animals is truly admirable. Personally, I would willingly pay a higher price for a farm-raised pig compared to an industrial one any day of the week. I am willing to pay a premium for grass-fed beef and pork because I understand the value it holds. Growing up in a farming community, I not only appreciate your strong work ethic but also your unwavering dedication to your animals. Perhaps you could consider seeking input from your customer base to determine what adjustments are necessary to sustain your business. Please do not feel guilty about raising your prices, as many farms have been impacted by the current state of the economy. It is evident that you are not trying to take advantage of anyone, and we all understand that this is simply the cost of doing business in today's market.

I think many RU-vid channels burn out-both creator burnout and audience burnout-because they can’t keep delivering the same narrow band of content forever. The creator gets bored and the audience gets bored. I love the seasonality and variety of your channel. I love learning about farming, raising animals, fixing old tractors, cross stitch, and clocks.

Pete, I’m not always the best with words but I hope I can convey what I’m thinking in an understanding enough way. But I just want you to know that I appreciate your videos, your time, your effort, and everything in between that you do to provide us with content. When I first started watching your channel it was while you were still somewhat doing the farm business videos. They greatly intrigued me, and helped me (and I know many others) understand what has to go into a small farm. I also started watching your channel simply because you are a small farm and I felt I was able to connect to a certain degree because I myself have been a helper to either my dad or a friend with small farming and I enjoyed that ability to connect. As you gradually ran out the farm business videos and started showing the day to day videos my enjoyment grew as you were able to so easily convey what it’s truly like to be a small farm! I guess in the end here, it’s just so enjoyable to see someone just as passionate about something I’m also passionate about, and that’s what makes your videos great and… YOUR videos! So keep being you, passionate about farming and teaching/connecting people to farming. THANK YOU Pete, for your wonderful videos. And I appreciate your openness toward us to the deep thinking you do!

Hey Pete, another great video. As a newly retired small vegetable farmer in NW England, I'm now able to enjoy my passion for restoring old tractors. It's true, winter is the time when things outside slow down and mechanical work gets busier. I enjoy watching you working in your workshop fixing your equipment just as much as I do seeing you using that equipment during the spring and summer. Keep on making videos to the same successful format you've been doing over the years. Happy New Year 2024 to you and all your family. Best wishes. Peter. 🇬🇧🚜

One of the things that attracted me to this chanel is the tractor restoration aspect. One restoration in particular that drew my interest was the MD restoration. The MD happens to be one of my all time favorite tractors, as my Dad bought a new MD in 1947. In the past 20 years i have restored 1952 Farmall H, and a 1949 Farmall A dual fuel. I fiund that to be a gratifying way to spend the early days of my retirement.

Pete, from a viewer that has followed your channel and journey for the past year, I think filming the struggles that a small farmer goes through is very interesting. I am close to you in age, and recently retired from a large professional organization, much like you did. I will likely never raise animals ( I do have a couple of dynamite raised beds though), but I find the problems that you face, the though process behind the proposed solution, and then the analysis afterwards to be very insightful. Those processes I think are what is very interesting about your channel. So thank you for your content, and I hope you continue to film all aspects of your journey.

Pete, I would consider putting gutters on the barn if that's your major source of water in the rainy season. we just built a metal barn like yours at the farm I work at and we put on gutters to direct the water away from the barn on one side. that way you could have all the water go in a different direction and pipe it away further, you wouldn't have to worry about the ground anymore and let it dry out. We haven't tried it in the snow yet but it should slide off over the gutter. We had professionals put it on and was an oversized gutter at about a grand for a 60 ft span.

Hi Pete, and thanks for helping us understand both your goals and your needs for the channel. One thing you might not realize is that while most of us viewers are not, have not, and will not, ever be farmers (or tractor mechanics!) we watch because of you. And your family too, of course. I'm never going to butcher a chicken or rebuild a carburetor, but I enjoy watching and learning from you - how YOU think a project through. Sure, there's an entertainment value here but it's more than just mindless cow flops and pig poop - a lot more! Even though I'm done working for a living, I still want to, no, I NEED to keep learning to make my life whole. I've done the career 180 turn (twice) and it's always interesting to see how other people reach that point and how they react to it. Watching how you and Hilary deal with the ebb and flow of farm life and husband and wife, as Mom and Dad, as neighbors and friends has given me LOTS of ideas on dealing with issues - from a viewpoint different than mine but one I can certainly learn from. I'm sure I'm not the only viewer that really appreciates the efforts your family goes through to create this content. And like you realized with your hectic schedule, it's all a balancing act - too much and YOU burn out (and we all lose), too little and WE lose interest (and we all lose). Keep working on the balance Pete - just like like itself it's never finished. Thank you Pete and Hil, Happy New Year, stay safe and healthy (ha, I got a dose of Covid for Christmas!) and do what you do, for as long as you want.
