I miss Larry :( Since we got a "peek behind the curtain" with the immediate boost to the memes in the show, to me it seems like the creators wanted a 24/7 show where people would be able to buy merch of their characters and donate bits and subs, while running on autopilot (or as autopilot as an AI show is). The new characters look too real, and you put it in a way I had been unable to earlier. The originals looked like an AI trying to make a human while drawing with its eyes closed. If the creators just came out and said "hey we gotta change stuff" people would have likely stuck around, but the stream sits around 600-800 now which is really sad. Good video, subbed.
I miss Larry too, dearly ;( Yeah I completely agree. While the content is a lot more smoothed out, the initial drop of the stream showed a lot of what they wanted to lean into for fan service. Yeah if they were just honest and said they had to re-shape the brand (for whatever reason) I think the fanbase would have been a lot more receptive. Thank you so much for the support!
Great video, you voiced many of the problems I have with season 2. Kelly and Leo designs are so bad it's actually very difficult to even try to like them. I think they toned down the brightness in Kellys model, which helped a bit, but still doesn't solve the fact that the model is really awful to look at. Leo's problem I couldn't quite understand, but I think you nailed it: its trying too hard to look human, and it hits uncanny valley for sure. The total memefication of the stream is dreadful, but knowing they are toning this down gives me some hope. Also, the new music is really bad and is absolutely terrible to set up the tone of the scene... the old music was very similar to Seinfeld, so they are unlikely to use it again, but something more "cool" sounding would help A LOT. So yeah.... if there's 2 things they need to chance to recapture my interest, that would be changing the character design and changing the music.
Thank you! I really tried my best to voice the pain and frustration the fanbase was experiencing. Yes! Honestly, I forgot to talk about the music haha but yeah the original music was more punchy and fun. The new music is really safe and bland. You're right, honestly the content is getting better and better than how it started, but yeah the thing that still keeps me detached are the character designs. I do have hope for the stream in the future, so I'm keeping my eye on it.
Great vid man! I haven’t watched the stream for more than a few minutes, but I wonder if the developers are just trying to go for a surrealism angle. Watching it kind of reminds me of David Lynch’s “Rabbits” which is also just nonsense dialogue and a laugh track, although it’s also mixed with horror elements. Maybe the developers where trying to treat it more like an art project at first without engaging directly with their audience and then panicked when they saw the viewer dip for season 2? A lot can certainly be excused by just saying “It’s creepy AI, it doesn’t have to make sense, and when you think about it: aren’t we all just a creepy AI?” 😂

I ended up cutting this out of the video but apparently there's a Vice article interviewing the devs and they hoped to make this like the latest and greatest form of entertainment. Wanted to be picked up by Netflix or something like that.

I think that's a problem with AI biasing. AIs have a peculiar gravitation toward hate speech (which is a strange but interesting phenomenon in and of itself) and they need to be biased in some ways to avoid those topics. Not many years ago people described RU-vid's algorithm as this mysterious black box whose contents weren't created by humans, and were a complete mystery and gibberish to the point of saying "it is what it is" to people who relied on it to put food in their table. AIs are the same black boxes, and yet now developers feel that they can and should manually tweak the black boxes. The results tend to be similar to a lobotomy. The AI's personality gets washed out, and it becomes dull. DULL-E, if you like.
Also - the music now feels worse. Now instead catchy S1 beeb-boob-beep tunes - they replaced it with calm and pretty vapid music, and this is kinda ruin show mood for me. + the intermission songs. Don't get me wrong - i like Win98 works, but they looks kinda off in what's supposed to be a 90's channel intermission. Generic tune from S1 is more suitable in that case.
Yes! That was something I completely forgot to address. The S1 music was so much more punchy and fun, but S2's is super bland. I suppose it was easier to create a parody of an existing shows music compared to coming up with their own iconic music during the ban. Hopfully they can add to it and make it stand out a bit more.
