WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR FUJIFILM? 

Believe me, the older you get, the less romantic those big old heavy dslrs become. But, they look great on a shelf. I only have three camera bodies that I keep on a shelf. Those are the Nikon EM, FM, and FE because they were my first cameras. And although they were film cameras, they are about the size of today's mirrorless cameras.

I loved hearing your walk down memory lane and what has drawn you to various cameras. What comes through more than anything is your genuine passion for what you do and your openness to embrace what any given camera has to offer. Thank you!

I resonate with your enjoyment of DSLRs, though maybe for a different reason. I mainly shoot to remember and document things in my life (family events, trips, etc.). As opposed to professional work, the pace is slow and the stakes are low. I find that a more analog experience increases my enjoyment, and makes taking photos enhance my experience. Being able to see through glass what I’m about to capture, focusing by directly moving lens elements myself, and a satisfying shutter are very important to me. I’m lucky enough to own a Leica M10 (with a dent in the top to get me a KEH bargain), but I think an old DSLR does the same thing. It’s like a friend who comes with me on my trips. Anyway I dunno what I’m getting at here lol

Omar, you are always watchable and inspirational . I no longer use Canon or Nikon gear as it was too heavy , as were Pentax . Getting older and looking to avoid neck ache , I switched to Olympus . As I point out to friends who ask what camera I use I tell them that it is the image that matters and the story it tells . Your shots , Omar are full of stories and it is that which will continue to bring you clients . As a family guy, you can never have too many images of the children growing up snd generations later will fall in love with them as your wife and children have over the years . Always love your videos, Omar! I’m a Fujifilm shooter for personal and professional use for about 5 years now. Loving it 😉 Would like to tease you two lenses for the Fuji system: Viltrox 13mm F1.4 (19.5mm) and the new Viltrox 75mm F1.2 Pro (112mm). These are incredible lenses that I have tried lately on my XH2. They are cheap and cheerful (compared to native lenses) and the image quality is sooo good! If you combine that with the XH2S with their stacked 26MP sensor and new firmware, might be able to get closer to your Sony 😊 just a thought. But love your work!

Thanks for the honesty and openness about it all. I've been a Nikon shooter for decades and feel guilty in a way for considering other brands. I'm at a crossroads, ready to drop DSLR and embrace mirrorless but I just can't wrap my mind around the Z72. I'm waiting, and waiting to see what fills the gap between it and the Z9. Im OK with it all, I do mostly nature work attached to a tripod with long shutter speeds. But, I also enjoy street. So it's great to see what some of these FUJIs are capable of and I look forward to seeing how that could let me explore that other passion. Thanks!

Yep, I love shooting with different gear too. It inspires me differently. I am also not letting go of any DSLRs anytime soon, I love that ruggedness you talked about and I enjoy the shooting experience with a DSLR too much to let go. And that 70-200mm L II is just delicious! I shot my first (and only) wedding with it while I was still learning the ropes and and I still consider the shots from that event as some of my best shots because of that lens.

Great video as always. I am getting on in age now (52) and I used to shoot in clubs up until the hit of covid. I swear it would take until mid week for the ringing in my ears to stop from the music and my bones from aching from dancing. Love you mentioned you shoot while dancing, a few customers used to hire me as my pictures where from the dance floor ( still can’t help to do it now, it embarrasses my assistant, grandad dancing apparently!) Tried a Fuji x-H2 with new update with a 16-55 f2.8 at a dance event and couldn’t believe how sticky the focus was and how quick it is especially considering using a slowish lens. I've been following you for ages. From the very first day I purchased my Fujifilm camera and followed you every setting instructions, your photos skills and your contents are amazing! Recently, I have made a switch to Sony because I eventually figured out what I really want. My experience with Fuji gears is just incredible though, if you don't have enough time to take care all of your Fujis then I can help you out lol.

Been watching your channel for a while and did take me a bit to figure out you used many cameras. I started by looking at the dates and then it made sense. Being a former fuji shooter myself, I used to always be looking for youtubers to watch that shoot fuji. I notice when you get into following a channel and they change camera brands it gets people in a knot. Also, there's alot more Sony, Canon and Nikon channels, so when you find a fuji youtuber you hope they stay with your brand. I don't shoot fuji anymore (I shoot Leica and Panasonic now), but still enjoy your videos. Shoot whatever brand you like :-)

Loved this walk through Omar. I love the Nikon 105mm, never disappoints. If you ever get chance, try 50mm Zeiss on your Fuji XT’s, wonderful macro and more. On Nikon Z a little cheap & cheerful 40mm f2 for walk around amazed me.

I love that idea of having a "noir" camera! Some of my favorite outings with a digital camera have been exploring a city or landscape with my Fuji X100S shooting Red Filter B+W JPEGs. I did a project before with the Ricoh GRii shooting their "positive film" jpeg setting. It's a freeing way to shoot.

When I went digital awhile back and was researching a replacement for my Nikon film SLR(that was stolen!), you were one of the resources I saw that leaned me into Fujifilm. I was not happy with what I saw from Nikon at the time and the XT-2 felt so good in my smaller hands; plus the controls-so much like what I had lost! And as you have said many times...these cameras are just fun to use. I still use the XT-2 because I am not a pro and can't justify an upgrade-yet. More for lenses, right? I loved your trip down "memory lane" and hearing your choices on cameras for work and play.

The X-E2, X-E2s, and X-E3 are the perfect Fujifilm cameras in many ways. I have a soft spot for the 16MP sensor in the X-E2 and X-E2s, which is why I've held onto my original X-T1. It's not the fastest camera to work with, but the files are really beautiful.

Bought the XT 20 at the beginning and am still using it. Used Sugru (another of your vids) to build up the finger and thumb grips and was so happy with it I bought a second XT20 so I’ll always have all that I want. Thank you Omar.

i started watching your channel when you got the xt20 as i was interested in one. ive now owned it for 6 years and could not be happier, I currently use it for motorcycle photography at my local mountain road.

Love the videos. Would be interested to see what your idea of a 2-lens kit would be. For me, I feel like I can do anything with a 28mm paired with a 70-200. I’ve shot weddings and events with that setup (mainly because I’m 90% using the 70-200 anyway) and felt so nimble.

I also use Sony A74. I have used the 20mm 1.8 for the last year but I recently started using the sigma 14-24 instead and I am really enjoying the results. I may not use the 20mm as much going forward.

Thanks for this video. I use Fuji and I’ve been trying to use it for everything, but it’s nice to hear your views and find out that actually it’s not suitable for everything and it’s ok to want to use other systems. I get portraits off my Canon 5D Classic that are just gorgeous and I can’t get that look on the Fuji.

Great entertaining video Omar. It's always about the use case for a working photographer and why I have so many cameras and lenses. It's also the reason many working photographers are not fanboys or fangirls because there is no perfect camera or lens. The other secret I've learned is that the lens can effect image quality more than the camera body.

Omar! Your number of cameras remind me of people who have dozens of pairs of shoes! ;) You know someone is really into photography (and enjoys it) when they talk about the nuances of what the different cameras mean to them beyond simple utility. I still have a Pentax ME that I never use, but I just can't let it go. Too many great memories made with it to let it go.

Wow Omar! What a great little production as only you can do; showing why you like different cameras and lenses depending upon your use. I have advocated for a long time that ideally I need two cameras for my photography; Z7 for landscape (large hands = large camera) and Olympus OM for birds in flight. I got an XE1 in 2012 followed by an XT3 and then finally an X100V when they first came out. I also have a Ricoh GR111 I use my cameras mostly for travel and street photography and my go to travel combo is the X100V and the Ricoh GR. They are just so small, light, and discrete to use.

Simply your honest review. Indeed, what works with you specially when it's a paid assignment. Yes, for Fuji, I think for fun and static subjects. Kind of being left behind with my gears, now that technology provided us to create better/at ease images; have noted that emotional snaps with precise sharpness by just an approximate take of the scene. I was one of the first viewers on the xt20! I really wanted one. I had to choose between and 80d and x t 20. Unfortunately, I had to go with the 80D as I went to go work as a cruise ship photographer for two years. I got my xt4 two days ago glad to finally be a part of the fuji fam. But was always living vicariously through your videos.

I couldn’t agree more, the 105mm is such a money focal length. I was a Nikon guy who left to the R6 due to the AF issues. I am debating coming back to Z7ii (I miss the colors and higher rez). I have the Sigma 105 and it’s AWESOME but it’s huge! I grabbed a RF100mm as a walk around portrait lens, works great. If I do get the Z7ii, I will adapt my EF glass.

Completely agree with the Nikon comments. I got a canon r6 for action as z6ii couldn’t cope, with fast moving dogs and I have tried! (and tried) A z6iii this year with z9 style af eye tracking is what I am hoping for as it has every thing else I need.

Nice journey but mine was a lot more chaotic because I did not know what I was doing and watching all these photographers saying this is the one to get made it even more confusing. It took me awhile but I figured out what was right for me. I found this out by actually using all these different equipment until a little light went off in my head. That they are all really good and I just needed to listen to myself. It was then that I started to sell all of those equipment that I rarely used. I even sold two of my favorite Sony lens. The 55mm Zeiss and the Tamron 28-75mm. It was so hard for me to let them go but I had no body for them. I also felt that as long as I had those lens the temptation to go back to Sony just was too great. So now I am committed to Fuji. Got my new XT5 and a used EX3. This works for me. I guess that’s what really matters.

Great Video, Omar. For me, what I use is what works. I do birding and DSLRs still work for me, no matter their current status as relics and dinosaurs.

The Fuji X-T5 is a definite step up from the previous Fuji X cameras I have used...

I started watching this because of the Fuji clickbait title. I just bought an old Fuji camera to get back to the x100S files that I loved a few years ago - but with a functioning autofocus system. But my main actitivity these days is events and theatre publicity shots. So, when you moved on to your work cameras, that got really interesting. Very interesting thoughts on wide angle primes (20mm and 24mm). I just gave up on my mirrorless cameras to go back to two DSLRs that focus instantly in the dark and have batteries that last for a whole event. But you have to think through what your settings are producing because you sure can't see it in real time (kind of like a rangefinder in that respect). But no more focus points that wander around randomly as you accidently touch the touch screen and face recognition that lands on the wrong face half the time. Great video. Thanks.

I watched one of your videos yesterday as a refresher on the shooting modes of the x-t20 (from 2018 I think) in which you talk about the reasons why you have Canon and Fuji - and not Nikon (one of the issues the lens mounting :)) and Sony, and the algorithm surprises me today with this video in which things have changed 360 .. or 359. Fuji is still here, but I see Nikon and Sony joined the family! :) Good reminder that things change over time .. I used to be a big Canon fan, but switched to Fuji and keep it still. I miss Canon but had to move to something smaller and lighter because I usually carry my camera and my drone so two backpacks was difficult to manage. Nice video as always and happy to see the progress.

Thanks for your insights! My first and only camera is the Fujifilm XS-10 and I'm kind of regretting not going for the XT-line immediately. Now I'm debating on selling the XS-10 and giving up IBIS for an XT-3 with weather resistance, better controls and a tilting screen. TELL ME WHAT TO BUY OMAR. TELL ME WHAT TO BUUUYYYYYYYY

Olympus was amazingly great in the film era with their OM series, where lens aperture and body shutter speed were aligned for left hand use, and they worked to always balance EV. So if you rotated (viewing from back of the camera) the aperture to clockwise like f/2 -> f/2.8 -> f/4, and then you turned shutter speed as well clockwise, you got the same exposure value as the shutter speed went from 1/125 -> 1/60 -> 1/30. As well on the eye-level viewfinder you had exposure metering needle on the left side, + up as overexposure, and - down as underexposure. You got to use camera quickly as you rotated the exposure rings to same direction as you needed needle to move. So if your exposure was under by needle pointing down (clockwise), then you needed it to go counter-clockwise, so you rotated exposure dials counter-clockwise to get exposure needle rise. That was so easy when you could just choose that which one you adjust, shutter speed or aperture, to get proper exposure by secondary effect. And you did it with left hand, where your right was ready to release shutter to get the timing correct. When Olympus then made eventually the m4/3 system, they made best body ever made by anyone, in E-M1. The dual-dials + 2x2 lever really made big change how to handle camera. Never was required to take-off index finger or thumb from the two dials, never to miss the timing because index finger would be off from shutter dial to adjust front dial. Flip the 2x2 switch from position 1 to 2, and you got now those two dials work as ISO (rear) and white balance (front). Quickly to adjust settings and never miss the shot because index finger stays constantly on the shutter button. Adding a third dial to adjust ISO doesn't make really sense. As it is not part of the exposure, even when it changes the lightness. So one can just keep base ISO if so wanted, but nice that you can set it quickly as well as white balance for the JPEG shooters. I have wanted to like Fuji in the 10 years. They have some great innovations like the X-T2 rear screen. Totally best design there ever has been done. You get best screen for photographers, and even for videographers. But I just feel how all physical knobs in Fuji cameras are just obsolete, when you need to anyways use the front/rear dials to really do things faster. And Fuji is same as with Sony, ergonomics could be much better. Sometimes I pull Canon 5D Mk2 out from the bag, and remind me as well from the Canon design, but so dislike about the ergonomics after while. Big, heavy and just bad. Now the Nikon Z and Canon R bodies, I just shake my head that how they managed to fail in ergonomics again. But same time Olympus failed, again, by implementing rear joystick (as you used those rear/front dials to move AF point around as well!) and then separating front dial from shutter release button. And then they started again make larger bodies since E-M1 II. For larger bodies, E-M1X body is best shaped, if you are one that shoots in automatic modes. But otherwise E-M1 wins it as well. What I really find odd in any camera manufacturer, is that they really do not utilize the digital camera capabilities. Every electronically read switch, button, knob, ring etc should be utilized as a Input. Meaning, Focus-By-Wire rings should be possible be considered as two buttons (Left/Right as different buttons, with a digital stepping as presses after rotation starts) or any dial. This was suggested to Olympus 12 years ago, and it was Canon that utilized this in their R series. If someone wants to bind specific function to any button, they should be able to do so! If they want to make a front dial as On/Off switch, then let them! Like rotate to left to start camera, rotate to right to turn it off! And every button (except shutter release button) should be possible be bind in three modes: - Short press (< 500 ms) - Long press (> 500 ms) - Double press (< 500 ms) Now you would be able to do things with anything. Example short press to select WB selection. Long press to open color mode, and double press to select ISO. Or long press to start video recording, double press to stop recording. Who ever really starts to utilize the digital processing in cameras will revolutionize the industry. By allowing users to select every mode to be enabled or disabled. Sony was on great path with the "Photo Memories App" or what ever it was, but they so failed to really utilize it. Make it Open Source, allow people to write the logical functions with python and get people to download and install those to cameras. And every lens that is digital, should be programmable as well. Sigma was on the right path with their dock idea, but it was useless as it was for just couple firmware updates and nothing else really. To adjust the front/back focus should be possible be done with body and saved in lens (like IIRC the Canon did). But how about really adjusting all focusing speeds, the customized focus limiter (if body doesn't offer that, like Olympus did) and program the lens buttons and switches as wanted. All should be possible be done with camera body, mounting lens and then using USB to computer to do those things. Another thing is that cameras should finally have a lot more RAM. Nikon D850/D500 had a 1.25 GB of RAM for the buffer. Today you could install a DDR4-3200 or DDR5-3200 (25600 MB/s or 39200 MB/s, you can go as high as 73500 MB/s if going for crazy speeds) in about 12-16 GB for really unlimited buffer, or get something crazy like 24-32 GB for all kind post-processing capabilities to utilize those 8-16 CPU cores the cameras has. Like how about doing that LiveND buffering for every possible camera mode, like combined with focus stacking? Or HDR with focus stacking? It would dramatically change the way to do photography in many areas where one could just process all the data if wanted by sacrificing batch process times. At that time 32-bit raw file would really benefit when one could do a focus bracketing with HDR, with 150 frames without waiting card writing. And time to move away from the SD/XQD and go directly a la RED, with M.2 SSD or NvME with crazy 550-7500 MB/s rates, and you get cheaply something like 256 MB drive for 40 dollars. Just open the hatch and insert it in, and close. 1 Terabyte cost like 65 dollars.

Oh, Zach Arias is awesome! It was his (first) One Light video that kick started my ocf journey. I too share your thoughts about the Nikon. The D700 was my first full frame body and I still remember the first time looking through that giant viewfinder! Currently loving my D5 and the Z6ii!

even I was regretting buying an XE-4 as I noticed most of the shots weren't as sharp as rx100v2. then I realized that the rx100v2 had a killer ibis and xe4 doesn't. however then I started learning to increase my shutter to 100< to counter that and now it's better than ever. I am surprised by the image quality I get out of my xe4. I am also planning to get 18-55 for handheld video since it has OIS.

What other lenses (for Sony) have something peculiar about them, like the Zeiss 55, in your experience? I know you said you don't like the 135mm FL, but I love the Samyang 135 1.8 (and I'm very eager to try a 105 1.4 GM when it comes out), the Sammy has that something special about it. The 24 1.4 GM has it too (but just a little less). I don't really know about other lenses though

Hey Omar ! If you love the Zeiss 55mm, you could also check out the Zeiss Touit 32mm f/2.8, it's a 50mm-ish equivalent for Fuji and it's one of the most interesting lens I've ever shot with! The Fuji 35 f/2 is so good that people don't really bother looking further, but the Zeiss is really slept on

Wonderful vid as always Omar. Can I ask your help please? I'm a hobbyist wanting to get into portrait photography. I have a young family (one 5 year old and one 6 month old). I want to get into portraits to document my growing family. I've narrowed my choices down to either a used Z6ii or an A7iii (can't afford an A7iv, or at least I wouldn't be able to afford any glass if I did). How does the autofocus compare on A7iii vs Z6ii for portraits (of children who don't keep still)? Which would you go for? Thank you in advance for your help, Christopher :-)

A great video what becomes apparent though and it's pretty much standard for a good photographers is it doesn't really matter too much what you use if you know how to use a camera you can take a good photo whether it be a smart phone at 12 megapixel camera or a 45 megapixel camera if the person behind the camera knows what they're doing, and has a creative sense of light they can take good photos and I often see people buying new cameras upgrading yet their photos look exactly the same, if not worse than they did with their previous camera....that said certain cameras perform better. Mirrorless aren't massively advantageous for landscapes but for events come on down. I don't have as many cameras as what you do, but I have kind of two sets of cameras. I have my working cameras - the tools you throw in the bag and they are going to do the work for the day..... Then you have your play cameras. They are cameras that you put in your bag and it really doesn't matter what you shoot on that day. You just gonna go and have fun. Now sometimes there are times when they overlap and you can take one for the other. But generally speaking I try to keep to system separate and that's also around mindset that when you have to work tools in the bag you are going to work. Where is when you put the Fuji film camera in your little bag you going to have fun, it doesn't matter what issues just enjoy it - doesn't matter if you miss a shot..... Where is I think the camera manufacturers want to try and make one camera that can do it all and I just don't think that there are many cameras that you can just pick up and will do everything. It almost forces you to have two camera systems. Is that a bad thing financially yes but from logistics, practical point of view it does make sense

Great video! Yes, the lack of continuity on youtube can be confusing. Initially I had you pegged as somewhat of a Fujifilm fanboy, but then I realized my understanding of you was wrong. Anyway, I love your videos and have learned a lot from you. I’m sure you’ve heard this from others, but your presentation style is very compelling and funny. It extends far beyond photography. I could easily see you as a late night talk show host or as a standup comedian! Best wishes for your future success! :)

I also started using Fujifilm with an X100S on Zach Arias's recommendation, and later moved to an X-T2 and X-T5.

I still like dslrs. I picked up a Canon 5d classic to go along with my 5DII. Wonderful cameras. I love the files from them. I have an XT-1 and the 35mm f2 which I quite like too. I also have a m43 kit which I love. Too many wonderful cameras to stick to only one brand.

hey @omar , whats the strap you are using with the xt20 in the video ? i have the same one, but i bought it long time back, and i want to get a second one !

Great memory jaunt and glad you remind folks that no one camera does it all. Also that some cameras just speak to your soul, so you never want to give them up. Still have 2 film cameras (Rollei and Miranda) though not currently shooting film, but will never sell them. Still love my first digital camera...a 6mp Canon...couldn't sell it, but converted it to infrared and it now has a new life. 😁 Have a Panasonic I pull out occasionally bcs it is fun. Have moved to Fuji with several cameras which are each a joy to use, each for different reasons and look forward to getting out more with them in the near future. Are any of those cameras perfect? No. Are all of them fun? Yes. Since photography doesn't pay the bills, I can use gear just because it is fun .

Which lens choice for New York Trip Fujifilm? Got the 18-55mm and the 35mm f1.4. Just take these Lenses or get a different set-up?

Hey, also got into this channel because of the XT20 which I also use and still continue to use but less and less because of my S5. I also have the ZV1 and was pleasantly surprised that you also got it and continue to use it too. Anyway, just wondering if you were ever curious about the Lumix especially now that that they have PDAF for the new S5ii. I know that it’s marketed for video and I do primarily use my S5 for video but I also sometimes is it for stills and I love the colors. Don’t know just curious and interested to see you try it. 😅

yeah been debating about the A7IV for travel but it's LARGE. Have a A6400 and the Fuji XE2 but although love the color of the XE2 its focus lags once the light is fading and the Sony's just nail it.

This just shows how good cameras really are now. I've shot a few brands now and settled with the Sony A7iv for 3rd party lens selection at affordable prices and the AF. Loved the fuji and Nikon colours but I can get there with a presets with the Sony now. The A7iv is also pretty light with the Zeiss 35mm f2.8 pancake for street and excellent for night photography with the 85mm Sigma DGDN. I'll probably get an x100v when I've got some cash spare because it's a great little camera.

Hi Omar, by watching this video and the “Travel Camera Dilemma”, I wonder why do you have all these Fujis. In what do they excel Sony a7iv? I am a hobby photographer, have a XT-2, and I am not sure whether I upgrade to XT-5 or move to Sony system. It seems I can get better autofocus and low light results in Sony, right? What would I loose (except the extra $ on the camera body)?

As someone looking to get back into photography after a long absence I have a couple of questions. Apart from professional shoots, if you were to have 1 camera / lense system, what would you go for? Im very tempted by all the bells and whistles of the newer full frame mirrorless options but im afraid of investing substantial funds (for me will all be used) and not enjoying the experience of shooting. I loved the feeling of DSLR from first time i used one and im afraid mirrorless wont give me that feeling. At the same time, i was never happy with low light performance back when i had a d90 and 50 f1.8 on it. So.. if you had to own one system, would it be a fuji or an SLR? Finally, i love the results of CCD sensors and as far as i can tell the 5d mk1 is the last great (affordable used) CCD sensor. Opinions? Final worry.. 5d with glass is going to be heavy and there comes the danger of just not having it with me.. though with how i want to use it and the features, i guess i just have to suck that up..

Nikon really doesn't get enough credit for their colors!! I share your love of the d700. Also, you really need to give the Canon r6 Mark ii a try. I think you'd love it! Also, you can adapt a Sigma 105mm f/1.4 on it :)

Omar, how do you not experience option paralysis with all the choices you have on your “hobbyist photography” side? I’d be stuck forever contemplating which setup to take out.
