What happened with the Ruroc Atlas 4.0?

Great video as always Dan. Always appreciate your honesty. Personally, I commute wearing my Atlas 4.0 and it’s been great in all weathers. Here in the UK, Ruroc can often be found at events where you can try on the different sizes which helps when purchasing the correct one. I know they’ve got out to a few events in the States too, most recently at Daytona.

I appreciate your honesty and transperancy, been looking for a new helmetet before my LS2 gives out on me, the rurocs caught my eye and if i had stopped at the first video and didnt do more research i would have passed on the helmet but im more than happy to be on the spearhead of new tech especially if it looks cool!

I live in Canada, I ordered the Ruroc 4.0 after watching your original video. I had to wait, but it wasnt riding season, so it wasn't a big deal. I do love the helmet and continue to wear it. It's very comfortable and quiet. I was fortunate I did not have an issue with size, or returning it. Thanks for the great videos and you, and following up on this one. I noticed you stopped wearing it.

Thanks for that info Dan. I ended up buying the 4.0 as soon as it came out when I saw your first video about it. It was this or the shoei 1400. I knew what I was getting with the shoei but the designs on the 4.0 were a lot better imo and that is what essentially made my decision. That and because of the safety rating. I honored the sizing comments and ended up regretting it when I had to send it back to get a size up. Other than that I hadn’t had any issues with. Comfort is soooo much better than I thought it would be. Only thing I wish was better was the ability to communicate with other riders. I haven’t tried their app because I feel like it’ll just be buggy but phone calls sound good and audio is okay. Really, after all the safety stuff, the only thing is comfort and style. That’s what separates a good helmet from a “fancy” helmet. The padding materials. As for me, right now I’m happy with the purchase with the sizing issues in the rear view. But it does suck that management had messed things up with you. Keep up the great videos 👍🏾

Chose the 4.0 as my first helmet and wore it for my MFS course. The second day of the course was torrential downpours even during the road test. The 4.0 was a beast. Kept a snug fit, never had a big issue with fogging up, and the airflow was great. Still love wearing it as my daily go to

I am currently riding with 3.0 and when I got it I was a bit disappointed with the padding on the inside, it was very thin and the helmet itself was lose feeling on my head due to the lack of padding, but I recently bought the thicker padding for my 3.0 from Ruroc and have to say I made a world of difference It fixed the loose feeling issues I had with the helmet other then that I really love my 3.0. Super glad they decided to make and sell thicker padding for the 3.0 and 4.0. If it wasn't for that I'd probably have moved on to a different brand

What I find funny is this helmet has the same mantra as like ford vs chevy. Brand loyalty on helmets are a bit silly. I own everything, Shoei, Ruroc, Biltwell etc. I love them all and they all serve a purpose for me. You hit the nail on the head what works for one might not work for all, and that’s ok. RU-vid comments CAN be a voice where negativity flourishes. I’m glad you did this follow up. I have found I will either reach for this 4.0, my Neotec2 or my RFSR depending on the ride I’m going on (or what Bluetooth is charged lol) Great job as always Dan!

I've had mine for about a year now. I like it, the HK sound system is good and easy to install. My main 2 issues are the visor doesn't shut flush so in heavy rain, it leaks and at 70mp/h, there's so much windnoise, you can't really hear the shockwave system. Unless there is a big improvement in those two areas, I'll be going back to either Caberg or Shark.

I ride with the atlas 4.0 and have been "happy" with it. It does have quality issues and quality of life issues, but not enough to make me want to buy another helmet. My problem with the company is how much of a gamble consumers have to make with an expensive purchase like this. I share the sentiment that get the helmet if you like the design but buyer beware it may come with some surprises.

Another great honest video! I would like to see a comparison between all the helmets halfs. Especially since there such a wide price difference between them.

I would not waste your time with a deep dive into these. Especially considering the brands are probably coming out with 2023 versions in the next few months. Very good video though Dan. Your honesty and transparency is of the highest caliber. That's why your opinion (from both consumers and commercial) is in demand.

Interesting to hear your comment re sizing, had to return mine (yesterday) after the excitement of 'opening the box' & looking at my first helmet in 26 years with a big grin on my face soon changed to disappointment when I realised there was no way my head was going to get in it. I’ve owned a couple different low budget helmets and went ahead with the ruroc 4.0 after watching your first video on it…. I received mine with in a week and it was little more snug then I’d like…. Instead of returning it i bought another one next size up which again i received within a week or so and that one fit perfect very happy with the product will continue to buy once these helmets no longer function properly ….. plus the shockwave system is cool feature i added like how it keeps everything sleek in design and contained within helmet .

Hey Dan great video, I understand where your comming from with the distrust in the company. I agree with you on that based on my experiances. i myself have bought a 2.0, with shockwave system. This helmed is not up to standarts and has a lot of problem's. Some of these problems were also parts breaking of being incomplete after delevery. therefore i had to contact support several times. support was really bad, they basicly didnt know what was wrong or what i was talking about about there own product or didnt want to help. this is till about 2/3 months ago for my last contact. they make there problem mine and just come with unreasanable solutions like just buy the 4.0. i had my shockwave break and after about 4 weeks of mailing back and forth they said we dont have it anymore and we cant help you anymore (a little over a year after buying). I had to threaten to destoy my helmet and claiming the crash replacement before they magicly found another one that they could send me. and thats my biggest problem with ruroc, after you have bought the helmed you are no longer a "costemer". ot atleast it feels like that. becouse they no longer are willing to help until they have no other option. if they can fix this i would say it is a pritty good company.

I was so surprised at how good the 4.0 is. Such a big improvement over the previous ones and finally worth the money. Not sure how they got it quieter than my Shoei, but it sure sounds like it is. My only issue was the sizing. Going off of their size chart, and even going up one, it was painful to squeeze my head into it and was almost afraid I wasn't going to get my head out of it. Had to go up 2 sizes, and allthough it's still super tight to get on and off, it feels great when on and it is super comfy and quiet. I've been wearing it on super cold days and it keeps me much warmer than my other helmets as minimal wind is getting inside of it. Oh and, after waiting about 2 months after ordering on launch to receive the helmet, it took another 3-4 months to wait on the size up replacement. that was painful.

My apologies in advance, I’m just trying to do some research into the helmet as it would be my first Ruroc purchase and I’m new to your channel. I see you wear glasses as well… how is the comfort of the helmet while riding with glasses? Are there glasses channels in the padding? They don’t specifically say on the website.

First of all, great (follow up) video. I can totally see why you would NOT want to be 'used' in a promo email when you had specifically asked not to be. For Ruroc to then go and use you in that email was unacceptable and wrong. Even though you actually complimented them on finally making good on their design for the new 4.0 helmet, it is up to you whether or not you wanted included in their promo material and they should have respected that. That said, I am glad to see that they HAVE listened to your rightful criticism and responded with an improved design. Kudos to them on that point. I know that from my own point of view, you have proven that you are purely putting out your own opinion and not a paid for shill actor for a manufacturer. (Something Ruroc could do to appreciate) After seeing your 3.0 review there was no way I'd consider one. After your 4.0, yeah, I might consider one! That's how it works. If they are charging premium prices, you expect a premium product. More power to you, and you have yourself a subscriber (with notifications!) Cheers! 👍

I love this helmet. I like the shockwave. As a sample size of one, I'm happy with my purchase. It's miles past the IconAirform I used to ride with. I paid for a good helmet that was maxed out on style points and its a 1000x quieter. It works perfectly for me. The company has some issues and thats a fact. They need to impove. However I think another issue is the motorcycle online community will also shit on a thing even when the reason they're shitting on it is gone. I've seen people in the last week complain about how they had to pay a customs fee in the states then disapear when you tell them they ship out of California for stateside orders now. People dropping them and them crying something broke....on a dropped helmet. People love to shit on a thing, especially if they support another thing. Motorcyclists if nothing else are huge brand whores. I don't think its something they can fix completely quickly, but if they can get their QA and customer service people in line they might heading in the right direction. Their marketing department also needs to ease back with drowning out youtube with sponsorships. Even if people are being completely honest about the helmet you'll see thousands of comments on how people are paid off. Honestly your helmet review is actually what I based my purchase on because you're given them shit in the past. At least I know at that point you'll be mostly honest about the helmet itself.

Have been following along with this journey and have been closely watching Ruroc since I discovered them around the time they launched the 2.0. I passed up the 2.0 and the 3.0. Was riding in a couple of AGV K1 helmets then got serious about an upgrade. Around the time of the 4.0 launch I noticed the amount of solid reviews coming in but noticed Ruroc as a company just didn't really seem to handle the growth as well as they could have, perhaps the sign of an immature company developing. Started following along with your videos and actually paused on Ruroc yet again, couldn't quite get behind them as a company. I now own a shoei X14 and a matte carbon EXO-R1 air from scorpion. LOVE these two helmets and use my X14 for track days as well. I ride naked bikes and love the look of the Ruroc with a street fighter style bike. Just goes so well. Recently have found myself intrigued by Ruroc yet again and have been considering picking one up as just a general commuter helmet and every day rider. Despite the short comings of the company as they've been growing/developing one thing I will say is that I truly feel Ruroc wants to do it right. They are taking on a helmet industry DOMINATED by long standing companies like Bell, Shoei, Arai, and AGV to name a few. They genuinely seem interested in creating a safe product that lives up to their name and to their price tag. I freaking love how they look and most street riders can agree they are very unique. I think moving forward with the 4.0 and later models they are now a helmet worth including in the conversation. I don't expect it to live up to my X14 but have been more open to giving them a shot. Still may hold off a little longer and wait to see if a 5.0 is in the near future within the next year. Thank you for the transparency with the experience you have had with Ruroc - been an interesting journey, albeit frustrating I'm sure.

So I had the 4.0 street king, this was my first (expensive) helmet i purchased The design looked great BUT long term i was very disappointed with it The clips for the cheek pads broke The chin curtain kept falling out Graphics/vinyl started lifting in places The whistling with the visor up drove me insane I didn’t find it quiet at all even compared to budget HJC helmet The List goes on 😂 They reached out to me a few days ago with regards to my review left on the website, offering me a discount on the atlas 4.0 Track. There is no way i could buy another after the experience I’ve had I wouldn’t even say you get what you pay for as there are so many better quality/comfy helmets out there for alot less money Now gone for an arai quantic

I was cleaning my visor on my atlas 4.0 and the nub for pinlock I noticed cracking around that area reached out to ruroc they replaced it.

Good point that you made! That the company took it far enough to send you 9( I believe) half helmets? It's not just the way it looks on the outside bit also within the outer shell to the pads inside. Gotta have a comfortable pads for the dome! As well around the cheeks. Best advice for anyone I can give, is that just try on helmets walk around in it get a feel and if can be a ride!? Some stores do offer a return if you're not satisfied with product. My opinion and advice. Hasta luego!

I made the mistake of purchasing the Atlas 2.0. The quality and service I received back then was horrible. The spoiler on the back was separated from the helmet. Only attached by 2 sided tape which appeared to be corrupted prior to attaching to the helmet. Sent it back. They returned it with the exact same problem. It was not attached yet again. I thought it was broken. Just fixed it myself with epoxy since they didn't seem to have that ability. Rode to work and the shield attachment broke. They sent a new attachment assembly. Very unimpressed with the fit and finish at that point. It now rests on my desk as the most expensive paper weight I have ever purchased. I lost confidence in the quality with nothing more than 2-3 uses. If they couldn't get what I see to work properly what about what I can't see. Was the helmet assembled correctly or with small shortcuts? The 2.0 was horrible but I am willing to try the 4.0 with all the improvements. Thanks for the honest feedback and transparency. I hate that Ruroc has used paid reviews to boost their reputation. It is hard to get an honest review of the product when you don't know who is paid for the "independent" review and who is not.

I just returned my Atlas 4.0 Ghost… I did not even try it on, so I can’t speak on the quality of the helmet. There was so much controversy over the 4.0 for every good non paid review on RU-vid there is a bad one to counter it. But I loved the look of the helmet and against my better judgment I went ahead and purchased the 4.0 ghost. I waited a month to get it I was so excited when it came…… Then I opened the box and wow my brand new $700 helmet was blemished in multiple places the paint around the chin was bubbled in multiple spots I was not happy to say the least.. so I wasn’t willing to give them a second chance and returned the helmet. I wish so bad it would have came in perfect shape because I wanted this helmet since the 2.0 and kept holding off.. now the returned the helmet with no problem and gave me a full refund with out any issues. They even returned a self tinting pinlock I purchased after I bought the helmet and it was apparently past the return time so thumbs up to Ruroc customer service! I still think the Atlas 4.0 is the best looking helmet on the market and I’m very disappointed that the product quality is not up to par, I don’t understand how they even sent me a helmet in that bad of shape. I’ve only owned Arai and Shoei helmets my entire riding history which is 24 years now and I have never had a quality issue up to this point so I will be sticking with what I know from now on.

to those saying size up... i got the size i was supossed to acording to thier website. it is a bit thight to get on and off but when its on. it is very nice. after about a month of daily riding, to and from work and pleanty of rides. it is not as tight to get on and off anymore while still feeling like new when riding

A comparison between the AGV Sportmodular and Shoei RF1400 halves would be cool! I currently own the Sportmodular, but would love to get the RF1400 one day. Since Ruroc sent you those halves, might as well lol

My issue with Ruroc was with the CEO of Ruroc saying that brands like Shoei, Arai etc were overrated. Coming from a person who's CEO of a company with 12 years of experience making helmets, many of them being for snowsports. Also the fact his attitude towards testing helmets properly was along the lines of "Why should we when people will buy them and test them for us." (All stuff that YammieNoob mentioned in one of his videos.) Do we also mention the guy who had an accident at 45mph who had several brain hemorrhages. Overall just seems like a very scummy company. Buying and reselling bicycle locks as "Helmet locks" and charging almost double the price for them was also very low. A company like that doesn't deserve my money.

I think there aren't many bad reviews, because the majority like the 4.0. The others like me that ordered the 3.0 and it was horrible, but customer service was even worse. For that reason, I wouldn't order ever again from them.

I have a 3.0 and I love it. No issues

I ordered the new eox in orange with a free Bluetooth basic coms. i drove 200 miles to check out a Harley Davidson dealer who had a contract to stock ruroc when i arrived they only had 6 helmets and not one eox. the fit was very tight i decided to gamble and order and over a week of asking questions to ruroc i discovered they had a up to 3 month wait for despatch from china. why would i not just walk into a dealer and try on different brand so i decided to cancel my order. I'm now seeing people selling on eBay to try and get rid of their helmets. i would stay away from ruroc.

I knew Ruroc from the snow sports industry and the clients they had were what we called in the industry "Gapers", which are similar to squids. The build quality of the helmets were bad and cost way to much for what you got. I think its similar in the motorcycle world, I wouldn't compare them to the AGV, Arai, Bell Or Shoei since those are manufactured in different countries and quality is different. I think they are in the same ball park as Icon or HJC both solid brands and also cheaper for what I consider the same helmet.

I owned the Atlas 3.0 and based on quality and fit and finish I wouldn’t buy another Ruroc product. Now after finding how they handled Trust Pilot reviews and the lack of integrity of them asking you to remove a video without watching it makes me not trust them as a good brand. I’d get a Sedici or a Scorpion because they’ve shown a quality product without trying to hide how poorly they designed and manufactured a helmet. To each their own. This company just hasn’t done enough to show they can be trusted and it’s a huge concern when I’m trusting my head to be protected in a life or death situation.

The concern I have is with Ruroc is the inability to try on the helmets without dropping a wad of cash upfront. After being burned in the past with an on-line helmet purchase, thanks, but no thanks, I think I will stick to brands I can go to a store and try on the helmet and check the size, feel the fit and finish of the skid lid especially if I am dropping $600+ dollars CDN. Yes I know you can return and exchange, but that is a hassle especially with customs and duty etc.

They're gonna have to do A LOT more before I'd ever buy one!

I've had so many problems with customer service and the Atlas 2.0 that now I look to see if youtubers are sponsored by them and I have a hard time believe anything they say about any product they talk about on their channel. The only reason I got it was because of so many youtube channels reviewing it and saying to buy it. When I go back through their videos though, not a single one actually continued to wear the 2.0. They all start out the same too, "Even though I got it for free, I swear it will be an honest review". Then they recommend buying it through their link, but never wear it themselves. Maybe some are actually wearing their 4.0 helmets, but I'll never buy a Ruroc again. Long story short, it does hurt people's brands. Also I bought my Atlas 2.0 in July 2020 and in 2 years they are already on a 4.0. In a few months it will be the 5.0. Most of the 3.0/4.0 accessories won't fit and won't be available. They just want people to buy new versions every year.

Alot more goes into a good helmet then just looks or feel. At this price point you automatically expect safety and comfort. I can buy a sedici for $250 and its safe and decently comfortable. The reason you pay a premium is higher tier comfort, pinlock ready, good airflow without compromising noise reduction

On a personal level I struggle to understand how/why anybody would buy one of these. The fact (last time I checked you can't) you can't try one on, actually go to a shop an look at them in person is a big no no for me. Some of them look good but the fact I can't physically see it/try it I couldn't put my trust in to it.

So I measured my head like 4 more times & against your previous advice I ordered the 4.0 Serpent in M/L ... Let's just say I sent it back the next day for a swap because I needed the L/XL LOL I will say the return process thus far hasn't been bad. I sent the helmet back on Tuesday & it's supposed to arrive at the Cali facility on Monday. My gripe at this point is more with FedEx as the return has just been sitting stagnant for 2 days. I'll update my post once my return/swap process is complete.

Got my Atlas 4.0 raw carbon the other day, and it is perfect in every way.

Shoei NXR is RF-1200 (old model) and NXR 2 is RF-1400 (new model, ECE6.0).

Ruroc sent all that stuff to say if you break down most major helments ours is very similar and this dude doesn't know much about the internals........ wow!!!!!

Ruroc lost me as a customer when I had trouble getting parts (pads mostly) for my 3.0 and Berzerker. After months of checking their website and seeing them not in stock, they told me via email that they could not tell me when they would be available. I asked if I could order some and they could ship them to me when they did come in. I was told that that was not an option, even though they do this regularly with their helmets. They make decent stuff, and I love the graphics, but anyone thinking about getting one needs to know that once they introduce a new iteration, support for the older models disappears.

Put the issue aside with, is Ruroc better than those other helmets. For now. Take advantage of having all those helmets cut in half and make some content. Please do a video where you get super hi-end close-ups, and then talk about the materials and construction. Maybe some of the manufactures philosophy behind each of their helmets. Of course this would require some research. Anyway just an idea.

I'll trust these helmets when they get a good sharps rating. Even a 2 star sharp rating passes passes all the safety standards of the 2 testing bodies mentioned.

Well it has passed and exceeded the new strict ECE 22.06 safety standard that all helmets need to pass to be sold. Its hard for people to like a unique motorcycle helmet brand that looks different than all other brands. Ruroc has been developing for 4 years and its now on par with Shoei which has been developing helmets for decades.

I like some of the graphics, but I have a long oval shape head, so these will never fit me safely being an intermediate oval shape helmet. So not worth my while unless they start making different shapes.

I dealt with the scam ordering process with the 2.0 and had fully paid for the 3.0 at launch thinking I would get it within a reasonable time, after months of BS and delays I cancelled my order. It was no different than the 2.0 launch and apparently the 1.0 launch. With the 4.0 looking at the website I imagine it was no different, the "launch" date is complete BS and you will wait months before you actually get what you paid for. They sell you a concept and fund that concept with your pre-orders which creates stock issues due to production not being ready for the "launch". They are very expensive with a very good look and the internal audio IMO is what sets them apart from everyone else. If they ever stop lying to their customers I will probably buy another one, until I start seeing actual stock at launch however they will not be an option.

Hi mate. I bought Ruroc 4.0 because of your opinion about its improved quality. I went for a Nebula. I like the look of it but detailes still makes me angry. Let's say visor - after being replaced from clear to dark is a pain in the arse to open once is fully closed and fully close when it is openned. 🥴 I would like you to test Ruroc's Shockwave and try to connect it to their app ( it is crashing every time me and my friends trying to join the group ), try to make a call and collect the call, try to use google voice assistant etc. Love your honesty and hard work on testing helmets for us. Glad the product got better, sucks the company is still shady. I know they aren’t the only company that sponsors influencers but It looked like they spent more money on marketing than R&D with the 3.0

Think so many people are done trying, like who wants to wait so long for bad service in North America. You should be able to just have locations on the shelf. I wanted one last year but seen how long wait times were and how bad others had so I took safe route.

I think the real reason why so many mixed feelings is the helmet has flaws and for the price its just disappointing. Comparing this helmet to a icon airform there is not competition. Thats my personal opinion. I just order a agv corsa r helmet so i want to compare that. But so far the ruroc price needs to be reduced to around $280-$300 based on other helmets in the market and the quality ruroc puts out.

I have been saying for years that Rurok is a cheaply made helmet and always has been but they spend so much money on advertisement that they don't sell you a quality helmet, they make you believe you're getting a quality helmet.

I bought the 3.0 and I never use it. It was not comfortable by any means even with the upgraded cheek pads. Because of this I have completely lost faith in the brand itself and do not want to waste my money again on what could very well be a turd. The fact that they showed what looked like a really great padding but what they sent was different and sub par then asked that we pay for the pads that ought to have been in there in the first place didn't sit well with me. I now have a cool looking expensive paper weight. Instead I bought another shoei to ride with.

That is so crazy they sent you so many half helmets. Ruroc seems to have an almost over reactionary response to their feedback. Oh the liner and cheekpads are too thin? Here, we'll stuff the hell out of it...and now they're too thick and the helmet weighs a half pound more. Oh you cut a helmet in half? We'll cut 9 in half. I think their next gen needs to be a bit more crafted and refined from the ground up instead of their ham fisted approach of bolting on fixes to their existing design.

Yeah, I don't love mine. It's too noisy and lacks in features I'm used to from lower price point brands, but I can comfortably wear my glasses with them, and that's worth something

i just cant justify the extra $$ over the sedici strada 2.. specifically the parale(bluetooth). i love the graphics, but it just doesnt seem worth $500+

Ordered and received my 4.0 Fenrir within 2 weeks (delayed because of a crazy Colorado storm) but 24 hours in and about 3 hours with the helmet on a bike I am very satisfied I measured my head twice and chose the size that it recommended which fits great for someone with a 27” head

Man, the 4.0 still had quality issues? I really hate to mention this but it’s been bugging me ever since dadwithabike passed. He put out a video vouching for this exact helmet and I would hate to know that he was wearing this piece of junk.

My dealings with the company were abysmal. I've got the original Atlas and it was an absolute turd. I use it for archery practice.

I tried one on a few times at bike shows and ill tell you now theres no way I'd spend money on this cheap shit over any of my Arais. If anyone does not rate their head high enough to warrant a decent lid then it's a sad day indeed. Even the cheaper end of Arai helmets are way way above these.

I have one and think it's a pretty solid helmet - my ONLY issue is the Shockwave bluetooth module.... sometimes I'll be on a call and it sounds SUPER robotic and people cannot understand me. You have to pull the dang thing out and orient the wires in just the right position or else you get that one problem.... for the cost of that thing it'd be nice if that didn't happen. Thankfully it's happened only twice within the almost one year I've had it.
