Get the wood stove rolling, slice up the bologna & cheese, brush out the floors of tree stands, shuffle the cards and pull up a chair... it's Pennsylvania's 2018 Deer season! Everyone has their own version of deer camp, but we can all relate to the enjoyment these few short weeks provide each year. Here's a look into what happens at ours... NCPA style! This year's video is a bit longer and captures all of the excitement during the two-week hunt that ended up being one of the best hunting seasons we've had in 6 decades! Deer by the dozens and good times abound!

Kaden reminds me of my nephew. He's 11 now but I started hunting with him last fall when he was 10. I dont have any children and had never hunted with a child. I asked him if he wanted to go bow hunting with me and he went. I must say we bonded with in the first few hours. I ended up taking him several times all the way thru rifle season and I had an absolute blast. We stay all day as I have a blind and a heater to knock the chill off. Just to see the excitement when deer appear is so much fun. I bought him a .223 for Christmas and his smile made my day. I cant wait to hunt with him again this season and see his face when he gets his first buck. You have a great kid and I hope you two spend many years hunting together.

Thanks Andrew, Joel and I both received a Leatherman multi-tool from our uncle right around his age too. We both use them all the time and definitely value it more because it was a gift. I've no doubt Kaden will do the same.

When I was 12 years old and got my hunting license, my Dad gave me his hunting knife that his oldest brother gave him, I'm 51 now and still use that knife.

We typically upload 10 - 15 minute videos. But it’s hard to capture two weeks of rife season in such a short video. The yearly rifle season deserve a little more. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the compliment!

Great video, I feel like I'm part of the family, wishing that the next one out the door "good luck". Can't wait until next year to watch Flounder hunt. What a terrific year of learning Skinner or Flounder, experienced at Deer Camp, I like both his nicknames. Did I miss the lecture on "What Happens At Deer Camp STAYS At Deer Camp" ? You guys are all fun to watch and I mean it, from a 61 year old Elkaholic from Colorado. Good luck and Happy Hunting Aways! Talks2elk
@NCPAOutdoors
@NCPAOutdoors 5 лет назад
@vallee Thanks for the comments, we appreciate them! Flounder certainly had a great time with the education and experience. We're already looking forward to this year and the subsequent video that will result from it. The running rule for decades has always been "What happens at camp, stays at camp" which was always befitting of the times decades ago with the rowdy bunch of older guys. It was always in good fun though so the title seemed like a perfect fit for the video series each year. Enjoy that Colorado hunting... that's one state we've always wanted to get out and see, especially in the winter!

How close is your hunting cabin to slate run area in PA? I watched the Bob Webber trail video in which his old cabin was close to our cabin! Great video which is a good rendering of many cabins/hunters in the North Central PA area! Keep up with the informative food plot videos!

Slate Run, Blackwell, Ansonia... beautiful parts of the state where I wish the railroad still snaked through! We aren't too terribly far off. I believe we're going to put together a few food plot videos this spring so stay tuned. Glad you're enjoying them and thanks for commenting!

Thanks! I believe there have been one - if not two, newer editions released, but we've been using Corel Video Studio Pro X7 since 2015. It's a fairly straightforward program and was pretty easy to get the hang of. It wasn't all that expensive and has served us rather well. Some of the newer versions may have more add in's and a better soundtrack selection available. Check back and let us know if you have any other questions or when you get the first video uploaded!!

Of all the videos i have seen this is by far the best and truly reflects what this is. All. About and the best part was the little boy! It reminds me of all the time i spent with my father i was lucky like this young man was my father took me with all the time and yes i still have the compass and knife ( and yes it a buck knife)my father gave me and it is one of my prise positions and just holding it the memories come flooding back of time spent with my father hunting! And it was funny i remeber remember my father also let me drive the truck man this is a video the really hit home awsome awesome im saving it and im going to watch it again with my father the next time we are together !

Sadly, no deer camp for me growing up. I was very fortunate to have been a Boy Scout and spent 3 weeks in the UK staying at a fellow UK Scouts house after hosting them the year before here in Philadelphia. We camped in the English country side where we could feed deer out of our hands. Also learned about Stinging Nettles the hard way! So glad that wicked weed has not crossed over the pond and started growing here as far as I know.

@@LucasOutdoors Yeah, Joel & I were 12 when Dad took us to the deer woods. I had Kaden out the year or two prior during spring gobbler season when the weather was nice even though he couldn't sit still at that time for more than 2 minutes just to get him out there and experience something. Deer season is a huge, maturing step. Graduation if you will. Great to hear the TC is almost done, looking forward to seeing how it looks and shoots!

@@NCPAOutdoors I begged my dad to take me when I was 10 and he said if he didn't get anything in the morning he'd come and get me at lunch time. I waited looking out the window for him. That half day was my first experience and I still remember most of it. I was hooked from that day forward. It was great you got the knife gift on video, that's a moment and an item he'll come to treasure. I remember getting mine on Christmas the year I turned 12, I stopped using it a few years ago just because it has so much sentimental value to me.

Your kids not wearing 250 square inches of orange in your stand and your not wearing a orange hat in your stand. That's stupid and 2 violations. Think safety
@NCPAOutdoors
@NCPAOutdoors 4 года назад
You're right, Matthew, safety first! The orange knit hat slips over top the brimmed one when the 'ol ears aren't froze. While looking back, it's painfully obvious a hat or vest was momentarily off at times during the transition/addition or removal of layers. Certainly not intentional, in fact, there's actually an instance in the video where the boy is told the orange head and chest requirement is a full time deal regardless if on the ground or in a stand. Definitely stupid if this were being blatantly disregarded. Thanks for the heads up

Certainly going to be a ton of change-up's to how "buck camp" is going to unfold for everyone this year. We're keeping an open mind about it. It's unfortunate the next two meetings through the end of the year have been cancelled due to "scheduling conflicts" among commissioners. We'll just have to wait and see how the PAGC pushes their findings after the first of the year.
